00:00Ethan, congratulations on the movie. You're not deaf, dumb and blind. You'll be hearing
00:05the kind of response to it so far, and it's been overwhelmingly positive. The people that
00:09love the musical, the people that just love movies, it seems to be ticking a lot of boxes.
00:13How much of a relief is this to you, or were you guys full of confidence throughout this
00:17entire process?
00:18No, it's a funny thing. It's a little bit of both. I think that there's some confidence
00:21that's inspired by John, who's right here, and his leadership is just amazing throughout.
00:27And I think, when I first saw the movie, I went in with slightly high expectations
00:30because the experience of making it was so beautiful. I saw the work of all these incredible
00:35actors right in front of me, and so I felt, I mean, it was a real privilege to witness
00:38that on set. And then when I actually saw the finished product of the movie, I was like,
00:43I think it's better than I thought it would be, even. Because he and Myron, who edited
00:47it, and the entire team, it's just beautifully done. And I've lost track of what the original
00:54question is, other than I'm so proud to be a part of it, and I feel really grateful that
00:59the world's now getting to see it.
01:01Well, for someone who lost track, that was a perfect answer to the question. Congratulations
01:04for that as well.
01:05Thank you so much.
01:06I read an interview with you today, and you were talking about the process of casting
01:10and how you played multiple characters as you put yourself on tape for this. You wanted
01:15this so badly. Talk me through that experience of getting the role, and then how has it lived
01:23up to all those expectations from a creative standpoint?
01:25Wow. Well, look, it's like a dream to be in Wicked the film, something that's been circling
01:33in the air for a decade, a show that's been around for 20 plus years. That was one of
01:37my intros to musical theatre, one of my intros to theatre, and it had meant so much to me.
01:42So first of all, I knew there was no chance I would ever get this role ever in a million
01:46years. I wanted it too much. That was the feeling. So actually getting it, it was just
01:51surreal. It's the kind of thing where I was like, maybe tomorrow it'll sink in. Maybe
01:56tomorrow it'll settle in, that this is actually happening.
01:59And I've got to ask, they do say in entertainment, don't work with children or animals, but how
02:03is it with the other half when you're on set with your partner? Is that kind of like...
02:09Because me and my partner, we like to argue a lot. That's our thing. So when you guys
02:13are on there, do you just give each other lots of space, or are you kind of trying to
02:17chew things up creatively, giving advice and ideas?
02:22Well, it's not quite like that, but Ariana's an amazing actor, and she is such an incredible
02:28scene partner with everyone. And I think that was something that was really special to witness,
02:31she and Cynthia together, but also the way that they interacted with all of us. So I
02:36learned a lot from them on set, and I was kind of just grateful to be there and witness
02:42it. But yeah, they're just both amazing actors, and they're amazing actors to work with, so
02:46it's easy.
02:47Well, congratulations, buddy. Can't wait for the next one in 12 months' time. We'll see
02:49you then. Hopefully a slightly drier day.
02:51I don't know, I kind of love it.
