00:00 >> Tight game tonight, some battles at Regents Field over some of the recent
00:03 years for this program.
00:04 What are your kind of general thoughts immediately?
00:07 >> Yeah, I mean, I looked at Jared Wood there in about, I don't know,
00:10 fourth or fifth inning, we were down four-two.
00:12 I told him, I said, regardless of what happens tonight,
00:15 it's really good for this group.
00:17 I thought we slayed them out, awesome all night.
00:19 I mean, we were slaying balls.
00:21 And it seemed like we were either right at them or the wind killed it at the wall.
00:25 And it's kind of seemed like every swing they took kind of was,
00:27 I mean, that's baseball, right?
00:28 Sometimes that happens, but I thought the good thing was we just kept coming in
00:31 and getting the game.
00:32 It was a little bit of an emotional, chippy game a little bit.
00:36 I thought there were times we kind of got a little bit outside of ourselves and
00:40 we were able to reign that back in.
00:41 But just a really good, tough, pretty win.
00:43 This group's gonna be really tough and
00:45 be good at playing from behind initially that night.
00:48 >> You said previously to us that you wanna see your team,
00:50 how they would fight back to adversity.
00:51 How do you think they did tonight?
00:53 >> Great, great.
00:53 I mean, I wish we wouldn't have had as much adversity.
00:55 We could have been a little cleaner on defense.
00:57 We could have probably been better.
00:58 But we say it all the time, you should have been probably there in the third or
01:01 fourth inning and it would be two nothing instead of four.
01:03 But we kind of kick two balls in the infield.
01:06 We don't get an out on the line.
01:08 It turns into a three spot credit for them for capitalizing on those spots.
01:11 But then Tyler Fay was really the story of this game.
01:14 That guy came in and just stopped everything.
01:16 Just tons of ground balls, tons of strikes.
01:18 And that gave our offense a chance to start chipping away.
01:21 And I didn't think, I was saying it in the dugout, man,
01:23 let the guy behind you be the hero.
01:24 And I thought they did that tonight.
01:25 They just passed off to the next guy, passed off to the next guy.
01:28 Tough A.B., tough A.B.
01:30 And they screwed me and they fought for some adversity and I got it done.
01:33 >> Yeah, you guys are going into your toughest challenge in the Frisco Classic
01:37 this weekend.
01:38 Excuse me, a tough matchup against UAB, your first road test of the season.
01:42 What are you gonna take from tonight's game into the weekend for success?
01:45 >> Yeah, I talked to our team about that.
01:47 I said, we gotta do a little better job of staying with us.
01:49 Like I said, I thought it got a little chippy on both sides.
01:52 And some teams do that, but we're not gonna be about that.
01:54 So we need to learn from that a little bit and pull back a little bit.
01:57 But I thought what we did, man, we played elite from behind.
02:00 I didn't think there was any panic in the dugout.
02:03 I didn't think anybody was gripping it too tight.
02:05 We just kinda went out and played baseball and
02:08 that ended up obviously working out in our favor there.
02:09 So I think that's what we gotta be good at.
02:11 If we're gonna play deep into the postseason,
02:13 you can't panic when you get behind.
02:15 And I didn't think this group did that for a second.
02:17 We go down in the first, no big deal.
02:18 We go down in the second, no big deal.
02:20 And sometimes when you're making those loud outs and it's not falling,
02:23 it starts to be gripping tighter, try harder, do more.
02:26 I thought our guys did a great job of kinda staying off that and
02:28 just running off quality of bats.
02:30 And I mean, for what we started, a little slow for
02:33 what a great offensive line.
02:35 >> Coach, you put Tyler into the game.
02:36 He's thrown some in earlier games.
02:38 But did you expect to get as much out of him as you did?
02:40 >> Yeah, I mean, that's what Tyler's been used to being.
02:42 That's what he's capable of being.
02:44 Obviously, he's a redshirt freshman, he says first, kinda outing in there.
02:48 And he's been good.
02:49 We've been talking to him Tuesday, like, man, he's such a good,
02:53 such a nice kid.
02:53 I want you to pick me, I want you to pick what's the attitude.
02:56 He did, I handled it.
02:58 No flusters, this is what I do.
02:59 They said, who cares?
03:01 I'm gonna keep saying that.
03:02 Walk the guy, who cares?
03:03 I'm gonna keep saying that.
03:04 But that's super, man.
03:05 He's always, I'll grab all those things.
03:07 He was himself, he was comfortable.
03:09 Tyler's gonna get it.
03:10 Next time, he's just gonna get it.
