What is the importance of being a No. 1 seed?
Transcript
00:00 There's always a lot of significance placed on the number one seeds in the NCAA tournament.
00:06 I don't know exactly why that is, why it's so much more important to be a number one
00:10 seed versus a number two seed.
00:12 You play the 16th seed in the first round if you're a number one seed and a 15th seed
00:17 if you're a number two seed.
00:18 I don't think the chances of getting to the finals or to the final four are any much better
00:24 as a number one seed than a number two seed or even a number three seed for that matter.
00:29 But I think the number one seed is mostly an ego thing.
00:33 It's something teams can say, "Hey, we were the number one seed."
00:37 And I think it's mostly for self-satisfaction purposes.
00:43 It's sort of a rating of its own, like the polls, the top 25 polls.
00:48 But I don't think it has any real significance in terms of the NCAA tournament.
00:53 But at any rate, Arizona is going to be trying to get a number one seed in its last few games
01:01 before the NCAA tournament, before the Pac-12 tournament.
01:05 And what they do in the Pac-12 tournament will determine as well.
01:10 There are teams that can beat Arizona in the Pac-12, even though there's no one ranked
01:16 anywhere close to where Arizona is in the AP poll.
01:19 But there are teams in the Pac-12 that are suited to beating Arizona, as we have seen.
01:24 They've lost four games at the conference so far.
