00:00 I am embarking upon a visit to Australia as a guest of government upon the invitation
00:08 of Governor General David Hurley.
00:11 It may be recalled that we welcomed Governor General Hurley to the Philippines almost two
00:16 years ago when he represented the Australian people during my inauguration ceremony.
00:23 We appreciate this personal extension of friendship and I wish that through this visit we will
00:29 be able to not just convey our camaraderie but the goodwill of the entire Filipino nation
00:36 to our friends in Australia.
00:38 Following our historic decision to elevate the partnership between the Philippines and
00:43 Australia from a comprehensive to a strategic partnership last year, it is now our turn
00:49 to reciprocate the visit made by Prime Minister Albanese and extend to our Australian friends
00:56 our strong commitment to this partnership, to this friendship and this alliance.
01:03 As part of this visit, I will have the opportunity to address the Parliament of Australia and
01:08 provide greater detail on the commitments that we place in this partnership and our
01:13 vision for the future of the Philippines.
01:16 I will make sure to acknowledge the ever-growing relations on defence and security with one
01:21 of our only two Status of Visiting Forces partners as highlighted last year by the success
01:29 of Exercise ALAN and the Maritime Cooperative Activity.
01:34 I shall also highlight the huge potential in trade and investment that we should maximize
01:40 in the coming years.
01:42 After all, economic security is a vital component of national security.
01:48 Finally, I anticipate an enhancement of the mutual understanding between the Philippines
01:54 and Australia as we share a common vision not just for our bilateral relations but for
02:00 the peace and security of the region as well.
02:03 Our engagement in the Parliament will also feature conversations with Australia's legislative
02:09 leadership who are vital partners in ensuring a favourable and enabling policy to our relations
02:17 to continue its upward trajectory.
02:21 I will also have the opportunity to expand our wide-ranging cooperation with Australia
02:26 through the formalization and signing of three agreements.
02:30 Collaboration in these additional fields is a clear indication that the strategic partnership
02:37 which we have embarked upon provides greater energy and optimism for closer cooperation
02:44 that is mutually beneficial to both Filipinos and Australians.
02:49 I am honoured to bring with me in this visit the best of our motherland and our inherent
02:55 desire for peace and prosperity.
02:58 I intend to serve as a bridge that will further connect the two democratic maritime nations
03:04 and promote our visions of amity, development and cooperation.
03:09 I hope to bring home with me a more robust, warmer and closer Philippine-Australian relations.
03:16 I ask for the prayers of the Filipino people and your continued support.
03:24 Thank you.
