00:00 My boss was needing a kidney and I immediately told her that she could have one of mine just because it's part of who I am.
00:07 Welcome to WatchMojo!
00:09 And today we're counting down our picks for the times bosses, employers and owners acted horribly and received some sweet consequences in one form or another.
00:20 Eric Davis nearly killed himself making a catch for her team and she wouldn't give him a lift home. We said shame on you, March.
00:29 10. Vegan Biter
00:31 As the chief operating officer at the vegan brand Beyond Meat, you'd expect Doug Ramsey to lead by example.
00:38 However, he did the exact opposite in 2022. Ramsey got into a heated argument with another driver, who apparently clipped his car at a parking garage.
00:48 The COO reportedly punched through the back windscreen of the offending vehicle. When the driver got out, Ramsey attacked him. To make it worse, Ramsey bit his nose.
00:57 Could be worse. My nose could be gushing blood.
01:01 Isn't he supposed to be vegan? Unsurprisingly, he was arrested for battery and making threats.
01:12 As such, Ramsey was suspended by Beyond Meat until he left the company shortly after. Ramsey pled guilty and was given three years of probation and fined $1,000 among other conditions.
01:23 If you're really in pain and you're getting, you know, I guess you'd try anything. Remember Mike Tyson bit off some guys ear.
01:30 9. Fly Away
01:32 Reddit is a smorgasbord for people getting their own back against horrible bosses that we can all live vicariously through. For example, user Shubsey's Tale of Revenge.
01:42 They spoke about working for an abusive employer in a construction firm who would throw objects, scream, and not pay overtime.
01:49 Shubsey's partner gets free tickets for events due to their volunteer work and the boss wanted to use that perk.
01:55 Shubsey, who was leaving the job, stated that the employer would need to fly to another city, which she was fine with.
02:02 However, the Reddit user sabotaged the tickets to make them invalid. When the event was on, Shubsey's phone kept ringing from their former boss, who seemingly couldn't get into the show.
02:12 Whoops.
02:13 8. Forced Kiss
02:16 You know, in the modern information age, it's sort of naive to think that these things should be nicely siloed into different places. They overlap.
02:22 Richard Beckman has had his hand in many media outlets over the years, such as The New Yorker and GQ, due to his work with parent company, Conde Nast.
02:31 And in 1999, he was working for Vogue as its publisher. But that year, Beckman tried to force advertising director Carol Matthews to kiss international fashion director Emily "Janky" Davis.
02:42 Instead, he ended up slamming Matthews' face into Davis' forehead, breaking the former's nose badly enough that she needed surgery. But it's okay. It was all a joke, apparently.
02:53 Matthews issued a lawsuit against Beckman and the company for $10 million. The case was settled out of court, reportedly for a sizable amount, and Beckman had to publicly apologize to the Vogue staff.
03:05 "Me and other big guys were weeping behind the producer's desk, you know?"
03:09 7. Library of Bigotry
03:12 "It's all about the American experience and community with all the international connections."
03:18 In 2008, Peter Tervere joined the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. as a management analyst. All seemed to be going well.
03:26 That is, until his boss, John Mech, discovered Tervere liked a page on Facebook that offered support to gay fathers.
03:34 After Tervere confirmed he was gay, he fell out with Mech and his family, leading to a reign of harassment at the library.
03:40 In 2011, after taking sick leave for anxiety due to his hostile environment, Tervere was fired by the library after the leave expired.
03:49 In 2012, Tervere issued a lawsuit against Mech and the library for violating the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964. The case was settled to the tune of $235,000.
04:01 6. Not Sterling Work
04:04 "He's sitting there behind his desk, I guess, and this explosion comes on his desk, and I feel bad that I caused it."
04:13 Donald Sterling's ownership of the LA Clippers was already controversial before this.
04:18 Under his leadership, the NBA team was described as the worst franchise in sports history. But it got worse.
04:25 Sterling was recorded telling his mistress that it bothers him that she associates with black people and asked her not to bring them to any games. Yikes!
04:33 "The little I asked you was not to promote it on me and not to bring them to my games."
04:39 After the news broke in 2014, Clippers players protested Sterling by wearing their shirts inside out.
04:45 The NBA handed the property magnate a lifetime ban and fined him $2.5 million. This essentially forced Sterling to sell the team for $2 billion.
04:54 "He will also be barred from attending NBA Board of Governors meetings or participating in any other league activity."
05:02 Adding to his embarrassment, Sterling tried to sue the NBA for the sale. After being originally thrown out, it was eventually settled in 2016.
05:11 5. Lack of Heart
05:14 After experiencing chest pains, Murray Gardner from New Zealand had double bypass surgery on his heart.
05:20 But even with this stress, at least he had his job at the Patch Rubber Company, which he had held for 11 years.
05:26 Post-surgery, his boss Julian Proctor visited him in the hospital. But instead of a social visit, he fired the recovering Gardner.
05:34 Proctor claimed that the surgery wasn't fully successful and he'd be away a long time. However, the hospital notes stated that the operation had no issues.
05:42 Regardless, Proctor didn't want to wait and wanted someone working immediately, apparently ignoring the possibility of a temp.
05:49 After contacting a lawyer, Gardner agreed to a significantly larger compensation package with Proctor than the initial $8,580 offered.
05:59 4. GPS Boss
06:02 It's always nice when a boss trusts an employee when they're unable to work due to health reasons. But it's a shame this one employer from Seville, Spain couldn't do that.
06:11 In 2023, an unidentified worker was on sick leave after suffering from anxiety, an issue that caused them to clash with their boss.
06:19 As they cleaned their car, they discovered some damage underneath and a GPS tracker placed within. Seemingly, the boss was following the worker's whereabouts.
06:28 The investigation found the device was registered to another company hundreds of miles away, which had been paying the bill for the device unknowingly.
06:36 With that, the boss was arrested for document fraud and damaging the employee's vehicle.
06:41 3. Baseball Slur Boss
06:44 The frankness, their affection for the cameras, eventually through TV and through print, had changed the way the world saw Marge.
06:52 If there was a prize for the worst owner of a sports team, Marge's shot of Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds would be in the running.
06:59 Numerous times, she was accused of uttering racist slurs, discriminating against black players, and supporting fascism, as evidenced by a German World War II armband she owned.
07:10 Shot even went on record several times praising the early work of Adolf Hitler before he went too far.
07:22 After several bans and massive fines for her horrible opinions, in 1999, Shot was forced to sell her majority stake in the Reds.
07:30 In 2020, after donating to the University of Cincinnati and having their baseball stadium named after her, Shot's name was removed due to her grim history.
07:39 2. Hero to Unemployed
07:51 In 2010, Debbie Stevens returned to work for Jackie Bruscia, her boss at Atlantic Automotive Group in New York.
07:57 The following year, Stevens did something amazing. Her boss needed a kidney donor.
08:02 While Stevens wasn't a match for Bruscia, she donated her kidney to someone else, which allowed her boss to move up the list and get a better matched organ.
08:10 However, the surgery wasn't a complete success for Stevens, who experienced health issues afterward.
08:15 After returning to work, she found Bruscia to be hostile and abusive.
08:19 You know, it's a personal problem because I had surgery, because I had a kidney removed. She said, "Oh, are you throwing this up in my face?"
08:26 Stevens was demoted and eventually fired months after her donation.
08:30 In 2012, the New York State Division of Human Rights ruled the firing as unjust.
08:36 In 2014, a lawsuit between the two parties was settled.
08:39 You know, the crazy thing is that, um, actually, I actually feel ashamed.

09:02 Number 1. Producing pain.
09:06 I think we're managing our way into it. There are places where I think it still does slightly overwhelm or kind of dwarf the actors.
09:13 And some places where it's incredibly exciting that it's there.
09:16 Producer Scott Rudin is in an elite club. After all, he won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.
09:23 Then in 2021, all that good work was flushed away when allegations came out about his abuse against staff, especially his assistants.
09:31 The accusations include Rudin smashing a computer monitor on an assistant's hand, breaking objects and windows in a rage,
09:38 lying about a theft to wreck a former employee's job prospects and withholding production credits as revenge.
09:45 After he apologized and announced his intention to step back from work, many projects removed Rudin's name from their productions.
09:52 Famed film company A24 also cut ties with the producer, whose reputation now lays in tatters.
09:59 I said, I think this conversation has come to an end. Thank you. We'll see you when we're done.
10:03 Who's the best boss in fiction? Michael Scott, Captain Raymond Holt, Leslie Knope or someone else? Let us know below.
