00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:05 And it all starts right now.
00:08 Good morning and welcome to the Arizona...
00:14 Ugh.
00:15 Welcome to the Arizona...
00:16 It's Monday!
00:17 That's what I was trying to say.
00:18 Welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:20 Monday, February 26th.
00:23 We have less than three days because it's a leap year to the end of the month.
00:30 I don't remember.
00:31 Is it a leap year when you have an extra day or is it a non-leap year when you don't have
00:37 a leap, where you don't have an extra day?
00:39 That's actually a good question.
00:40 It's called a leap...
00:41 It's a short...
00:42 Because we leap a day or we add a day.
00:45 I don't know.
00:46 Is it a...
00:47 I don't know.
00:48 Somebody out there...
00:49 Help me out.
00:50 Call into the station and Mikey up front and tell us.
00:51 I can't remember.
00:52 Is it called a leap year when it has the extra day?
00:55 Yes, it is.
00:56 Yes, yes, yes.
00:57 That's right because we end on the 29th this year.
00:59 So we have the extra day.
01:00 Yeah, we have the extra day.
01:01 So this is the year that like if you were born on February 29th, you know, you actually
01:09 have a birthday.
01:10 Like when you meet people who are born on February 29th, it's like, "Oh, I'm only, you
01:12 know, nine years old when they're 40 something because their birthday only comes every couple
01:17 of years."
01:18 So there you go.
01:19 All right.
01:20 Cool.
01:21 Happy leap year.
01:22 So we are taking a road trip to another gym in Arizona.
01:26 Manic Manage mom, Rachel Harris, is here with the great ghost town.
01:30 You might need to add to your bucket list.
01:32 So I don't like ghosts.
01:35 I know better.
01:36 I mean, I think that's kind of fun just to go because I, you know, to each their own.
01:40 But, you know, I choose to believe that it's just for fun and it's not going to hurt me.
01:46 So I think if you have that kind of mindset, maybe it's something fun to go and see and
01:50 enjoy.
01:51 I love seeing the history, but I know like seeing the ghosts.
01:53 I get it.
01:54 I get it.
01:55 All right.
01:56 Plus, the Arizona Humane Society has some great programs going on.
01:59 And one of them even lets you invite a pack of puppies to your next party.
02:03 Oh, maybe this sweet girl will come if you have them come out with their puppies.
02:09 This girl, oh my goodness.
02:12 Love it.
02:13 Oh, come on.
02:16 She is adorable and she is available for adoption, you guys.
02:19 I forget the show.
02:21 Let's just have her just let's just take photos and videos of her for the next hour.
02:25 As W.C.
02:26 Fields said, there's two things you don't work with and that's children and animals.
02:31 And look, look at this cutie.
02:34 We don't have to do this show anymore.
02:37 Whoever, you know.
02:38 Well, OK, listen, do stick around because we have spring training tickets for you because
02:44 it's officially started.
02:45 We're going to give you away a couple of tickets over to Sloan Park.
02:47 But you got to stick around for after 930.
02:50 So after the halfway mark.
02:52 Yes.
02:53 All right.
02:54 Let's chat.
02:55 All right.
02:56 This weekend was the SAG Awards.
02:58 It was streamed on Netflix.
03:01 That meant there was a lot of racy words.
03:02 There were no holds bar.
03:04 But I think the best one was Pedro Pascal.
03:07 That says Pascal Pascal.
03:10 Literally was drunk.
03:12 And so that's what he was.
03:13 That's what he actually came on stage and goes, oh, my gosh, I wasn't expecting this.
03:18 I've been drinking.
03:19 I'm a little drunk.
03:20 What did he win for?
03:21 He won for best actor in a series.
03:24 But remember, all the awards have been going to McColkin.
03:30 What's McColkin?
03:31 I forget.
03:32 Why can't I think of his first name?
03:33 I want to say McCully.
03:34 No, it's not McCully, but his brother Kit.
03:35 Kieran.
03:36 Kieran McColkin.
03:37 Kieran.
03:38 Yeah.
03:39 He's been getting it all for secessions.
03:41 And so that's why when Pedro was like, what?
03:45 I won?
03:46 What was the show that he was in?
03:47 Pedro?
03:48 Pedro, is it This Is Us or is that what it's called?
03:53 Last of Us.
03:54 The Last of Us.
03:55 Oh, I keep hearing about that show.
03:56 I need to watch that.
03:57 Everybody's talking about it.
03:58 So what was awesome.
03:59 Now that Pedro won, maybe we'll all be watching it.
04:01 There you go.
04:02 Maybe while you're having drinks like he was.
04:03 There you go.
04:04 What brought up my topic a little bit was that they were having a lot of reunions at
04:09 the SAG Awards.
04:10 Like 20 year reunions.
04:12 One was Harry, not Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings had a 20 year.
04:18 Wow, really?
04:19 Yeah.
04:20 But what's very crazy is that there are like some other movies that were celebrating 18
04:25 years.
04:26 Okay.
04:27 High School Musical.
04:28 Okay.
04:29 Did you see that?
04:30 Were you a High School Musical kid?
04:31 I was not.
04:32 Not, okay.
04:33 Oh, I thought you'd be in like in theater and stuff.
04:34 I know.
04:35 But you watched Glee probably.
04:36 I did watch Glee.
04:37 Well, actually I was on Glee.
04:38 Oh, were you?
04:39 Oh, too bad.
04:40 I was on Glee.
04:41 So, Zoolander turns 18.
04:43 This is making me feel so old right now.
04:45 The Prince's Diaries turns 18.
04:48 So old.
04:49 Fast and the Furious, Legally Blonde.
04:51 Which one?
04:52 The first one.
04:53 The very first one.
04:54 Guys.
04:55 The Fast and the Furious first one.
04:56 What was the other one?
04:57 The other one was Legally Blonde.
05:00 The first Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
05:02 Wow.
05:03 Shrek.
05:04 And one of my scariest ones, The Others.
05:06 Have you ever seen The Others with the full kid?
05:08 Is that a full kid movie?
05:09 Yes.
05:10 Where they're dead.
05:11 The kids are dead in the house.
05:12 If you haven't seen it, sorry.
05:13 Yep, we just spoiled it today.
05:14 But this is also cool too.
05:17 20 year, shows that are turning 20 in 2024.
05:21 Alright, very quickly.
05:22 Desperate Housewives, Stargate Atlantis, Bleach, which I've never heard of.
05:27 I don't know that either.
05:28 Loss, Veronica Mars, Entourage, Boston Ligo, Deadwood, Battlestar Galactica, and House.
05:36 House!
05:37 Oh man.
05:38 I've never heard of that show.
05:39 Now we start feeling kind of old.
05:40 Oh my gosh, this does make me feel really old.
05:41 Oh my gosh, because these are all such good shows that I know and have seen.
05:45 I know.
05:46 I mean, speaking of good shows, we have an incredible lineup right here on The CW7.
05:50 Not of any of those shows, but let me tell you what we have.
05:54 Starting this afternoon, we have two hours of your favorite funny man, that's Steve Harvey,
05:57 and Family Feud at four.
05:59 We follow that up with The Big Bang Theory, which brings on The Laughs at six and 630.
06:03 Then we have two new exciting shows on The CW7, Ride at seven and Wild Cards at eight.
06:09 You do not want to miss those.
06:11 Then we have your favorite funny man again at nine.
06:13 And hang in there for the craziest sitcom on TV, because that's Mom.
06:18 We got that on at ten.
06:20 It is all about the smiles here at The CW7.
06:22 As we like to say, it's all good.
06:25 What a great lineup.
06:29 And guess what? It's time to start playing those spring or summer road trips.
06:33 And our managed mom, Rachel Harris, has a great place here in Arizona for history and food.
06:39 Oh, man.
06:40 And I'll tell you, first of all, Rachel, are you still living in the dream that you wanted to live and that was traveling?
06:46 Yes, but what I didn't know I was going to do was a lot of Arizona travel.
06:49 And I am learning all about our state.
06:51 And you can go in-state and spend a lot less.
06:54 And I actually brought a list of why I'm saying jump on over to Jerome, Arizona.
06:59 Okay. This is a really-- I mean, people know about Jerome, but it's a hidden gem in a way.
07:04 It really is.
07:05 And people forget about going there.
07:06 And check it out.
07:07 It's just a two-hour drive from Phoenix.
07:09 Budget-friendly getaway.
07:11 Very unique lodging options.
07:13 Wait until you see where I stayed.
07:14 I'm going to show you in a minute.
07:16 Popular for the ghost hunting.
07:17 I know you're afraid of ghosts, Brad.
07:19 I am. I don't play around.
07:20 Very rich in the Arizona mining history.
07:23 Great for wine tasting.
07:25 That would be my sport.
07:26 And really unique boutiques and shops.
07:29 Because actually-- and I'll help you out a little bit.
07:32 Jerome was a mining place.
07:34 That's right. Copper.
07:35 Right. And do you know the history of a movie that was first shown there?
07:39 I don't. Tell me. Tell me.
07:40 So, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
07:42 I had no idea.
07:43 It was the first place they aired it.
07:44 That is-- I'm going to look that up.
07:45 Because it was for all the miners.
07:46 That is very cool.
07:47 And there's some dens and stuff.
07:48 So, yeah, I love Jerome.
07:49 I love it.
07:50 All right. Well, I brought a lot of video because I had no idea I was going to find this much.
07:52 So, thanks to the team here for all the editing and all the help.
07:55 Okay. So, number one, you've been to the Haunted Hamburger, right?
07:58 Let's roll the video on that.
07:59 Yes.
08:00 If you go to Jerome, you don't want to miss that.
08:02 Is it haunted inside?
08:03 They say yes. All right?
08:05 Yeah.
08:06 Because the owners, when they first took it over, there were hammers and tools that were disappearing and then reappearing.
08:12 And they talked to the owners before and said it happened to them as well.
08:15 They also have a gift shop.
08:17 That's fun for your souvenirs.
08:19 And I love this.
08:20 Eat, drink, view, and when you're leaving, pea shop leave.
08:22 I love that.
08:23 You can eat indoors.
08:25 You can sit around the bar.
08:27 We really liked eating on the outdoor patio.
08:30 It looks over Verde Valley.
08:32 The food is great.
08:33 I couldn't wait.
08:34 I was starving.
08:35 We drive there, then we eat.
08:36 Burgers are good.
08:37 Get the deviled eggs.
08:39 Make sure you get the desserts and the milkshakes are served the old-fashioned way where they give you the big 10-cup so you can have every bite worth every calorie.
08:49 I love it.
08:50 Wow, that's awesome.
08:51 Delicious and succinct.
08:52 You're not going to believe where we stayed.
08:54 It is called the Haunted Penthouse.
08:56 If we can roll that video.
08:58 This is now one of my favorite places to stay.
09:01 It's actually part of the Clinkscale Hotel, Grill, and Bar, but it's off-site.
09:06 It's actually on top of the Haunted Hamburger, and you get your own private residence.
09:11 Check it out.
09:12 It even tells you, "Beware of ghosts, Brad."
09:15 Beautiful space.
09:16 You have a kitchen and a dining room and a living room.
09:20 A thousand square feet can accommodate up to four guests.
09:24 Two bedrooms, really comfortable beds.
09:28 One thing I love about this place, all the decor is super fun, but it has a shared back patio, and you get beautiful views of Mingus Mountain to the San Francisco Peaks.
09:39 There's bedroom number two.
09:41 I got up early and took in the sunrise, and then also my gal pals and I would sit out there later in the day with wine.
09:49 I highly recommend staying at the Haunted Penthouse.
09:53 It's up there.
09:54 Isn't that cool?
09:55 I have to tell a quick story.
09:56 Tell the story.
09:57 When I was at another station, we did a road trip up there doing the show.
10:01 I was supposed to stay in there.
10:03 I went in there and it felt really weird.
10:05 I slept in the car.
10:06 Do you know what?
10:07 They don't give you refunds, too, if you think there's paranormal activity.
10:10 So not for you.
10:11 There might have been a little ghost activity when I was there, but they were friendly ghost friends.
10:15 That's good.
10:16 All right, let's talk about the Clankscale Hotel, Bar, and Grill.
10:19 That's where the Haunted Mansion is part of, or the Penthouse is part of that.
10:23 But there's the hotel itself.
10:25 It does have six elegant guest rooms upstairs.
10:27 We didn't stay there.
10:28 Again, we stayed in the Penthouse.
10:30 You have to eat at this place.
10:32 Yelp calls it the seventh best restaurant in the Southwest.
10:36 There's some friendly patrons right there.
10:39 The bar is great.
10:40 And then when you're going through the restaurant, it's historic, but it's also modern.
10:46 And as you go through it, you'll see that right there is the front desk.
10:50 I love that.
10:51 The food is phenomenal.
10:53 Don't miss the grilled shrimp and Parmesan grits.
10:56 You want to get the cocktails and the desserts as well.
10:59 And Mike, John, and Sam were fabulous to work with over there.
11:03 Can't say enough good stuff about the Clankscale.
11:05 Oh, I look so delicious.
11:06 You want to stay there?
11:07 So delicious.
11:08 Time for one more?
11:09 Do we?
11:10 One more.
11:11 Quickly.
11:12 One more.
11:13 Okay.
11:14 Let's roll it.
11:15 The Great Shopping in Jerome.
11:16 Ghost Town Girl, such a cool space.
11:17 The owner used to be her mother's art gallery.
11:19 Look at the fun merchandise.
11:20 Her father bought the space for her mother in '79, surprised her.
11:24 Forty years later now, she operates this cool gift shop.
11:27 And that, you mix a cocktail in.
11:28 I brought it for you to take it camping.
11:30 Christmas stores open all year round.
11:33 So definitely check out the shops in Jerome.
11:36 I like it.
11:37 I like it.
11:38 All right.
11:39 So stick around because we're going to, of course, come back and talk.
11:41 We're coming back.
11:42 I've got wine tasting to tell you about.
11:44 I've got a ghost walk to tell you about.
11:45 It's a little later in the show.
11:47 Stay with us.
11:48 All right.
11:49 And coming up after the break, the Arizona Humane Society has some great programs going
11:53 on, and we have them in the studio.
11:54 Tell us how you can get involved with them.
11:56 And, of course, that cutie right there.
11:59 Come on back.
12:00 The Arizona Humane Society does so much to help out the furry friends in our community,
12:16 but they also have amazing programs that can help the two-legged Arizonans as well.
12:20 Here to talk about their community programs is Joe Casados.
12:23 Welcome, Joe.
12:24 Thank you for being here.
12:25 Thank you for having me.
12:26 It's good to be here.
12:27 And I want to do a little introduction for our star, which is Sasha.
12:30 She is so beautiful, and you guys, she's doing so good.
12:33 Remind me a little bit about her story.
12:35 Yeah.
12:36 So Sasha is a 14-week-old German Shepherd puppy.
12:39 She might have a little mix of something else in there, but obviously she looks mostly German
12:43 Shepherd.
12:44 She was brought in by a good Samaritan when she was a very tiny puppy, underweight, and
12:49 our trauma hospital was able to get her some medicine, and then we got her into foster
12:53 care so she could gain some weight and get a little bigger, and now she is healthy weight
12:58 and ready to be adopted.
12:59 She's ready to go.
13:00 Yeah, you guys.
13:01 And she has a lot to say.
13:03 She does.
13:04 Oh, my goodness.
13:05 Yeah, she's going to tell us all about it.
13:06 But that's just some of the amazing work that you guys do there at the Arizona Humane Society.
13:10 But aside from the actual work you do with the animals, there are so many fun programs
13:15 that you do through the community as well.
13:17 So tell us a little bit about some of the things when you bring the dogs out to events
13:21 and just kind of walk us through that.
13:22 Yeah, education and outreach is a huge part of our system of care.
13:26 So a lot of people assume that all we do is adopt our pets, but like you said, we like
13:29 to educate a lot.
13:30 So our Wagon Wheels mobile adoption unit will actually be at the Brewers game this Wednesday
13:36 at American Family Fields.
13:38 So you can go to the game, maybe find a new best friend.
13:42 We also have some spring camps going on for youth.
13:45 They'll start March 12th through the 14th and then the 19th through the 21st, and it's
13:50 for ages 9 through 12, so they can get to hang out with these guys.
13:54 They participate in our enrichment activities, helping make treat puzzles, and just really
13:58 learning what it means to care for a pet and to be a good pet owner and a steward of animal
14:03 welfare.
14:04 What a great thing for if you have young kids at home who maybe you already have animals
14:09 or you would like to have an animal in the house.
14:11 This is a great way to get them started and to not only see that when they give back,
14:15 they're helping actual living, breathing things, but then learn a little bit about being a
14:20 pet owner and getting that care.
14:22 Something else I was reading that you guys do that's so cool is you will actually bring
14:26 some of your sweet animals to events so that people can do team building.
14:31 There's something like a wedding thing that you do.
14:33 Tell me about that.
14:34 We do puppy and kitten cuddle bunches.
14:37 So anybody can have three puppies or kittens from the same litter come to their party.
14:42 We've done wedding receptions, birthday parties, any sort of gathering, work events.
14:47 It's three hours of just cuddling with puppies and kittens.
14:51 What could be better than that?
14:53 Absolutely.
14:54 It's clinically proven that spending some time with animals brightens your mood.
14:58 It just makes you have a slightly better outlook on the day.
15:01 That would be so great for a team building.
15:03 If you want to just bring in Sasha and a couple other sweet pups here, we'll hang out with
15:08 them all day.
15:09 That's fantastic.
15:10 I love that you do it for weddings as well.
15:12 That's really, really cool.
15:14 All the proceeds from that go right back to helping the animals too.
15:16 So it really is full circle.
15:18 That's great.
15:19 Something that you were talking about in Sasha's story is that she was brought in by a good
15:23 Samaritan, but then she was taken care of in a foster home for a little while.
15:27 Tell us about fostering and how people can get involved that way.
15:30 Our foster heroes are absolutely incredible.
15:33 Most people don't realize at any given time we usually have more pets in foster than in
15:37 our shelter because we handle sick, injured, and abused pets.
15:41 A lot of times they need somewhere to go to recover for a little while after their surgeries
15:45 and things like that.
15:46 So our foster heroes really are just an amazing extension of our team.
15:50 They take these guys in, they care for them for a few weeks at a time, and then they come
15:55 back to us when they're ready to find their forever families.
15:58 Definitely.
15:59 That's so vital, that kind of stepping stone to getting them into a home because some of
16:03 these animals come from, like you were saying with Sasha, slightly traumatic histories.
16:07 Maybe you don't even know exactly what she went through.
16:09 So having that time to really be in her foster home, kind of getting that love and attention
16:14 so that she's totally ready to be adopted.
16:17 And Sasha is ready to be adopted right now, like you were saying.
16:19 Yes, she is.
16:20 We will be open at 11 a.m. and anybody can come in and meet Sasha.
16:25 Tell us a little bit about the adoption process for people who want to come in and maybe adopt
16:29 Sasha or some of the other beautiful pets that you have there.
16:32 All you have to do is go on to azhumane.org/adopt and you can see all of our pets that we have
16:37 available.
16:38 It will also tell you which location they're at, whether it's our Old Town Scottsdale or
16:42 our South Mountain Campus and then soon to come our brand new Papago Park Campus.
16:47 So you can see exactly where the pet is you want to meet or you can just come down and
16:51 walk around and see which one calls your name.
16:54 Oh, that's so great.
16:55 And I assume that that website they can also go to to learn about the fostering opportunities
16:59 or volunteer opportunities.
17:00 Yep, everything is right on our website.
17:02 Okay, that is so, so, so great.
17:04 Well, Joe, thank you for being here and thank you to our star Sasha.
17:07 She did so good.
17:08 All right, guys, stick around because we have more of The Mix coming up right after this.
17:11 Or me.
17:12 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored by Plexaderm.
17:25 We want to thank Plexaderm for sponsoring this segment.
17:30 I know a lot of our viewers have taken the Plexaderm 10 Minute Challenge to shrink your
17:36 under eye bag and wrinkles from view.
17:38 And if you haven't gotten to try it yet, Plexaderm brought Annette here for us to show how you
17:44 can do it for $14.95.
17:46 It's the Plexaderm 10 Minute Challenge.
17:48 What is it?
17:49 Well, let's talk to Annette and find out.
17:51 Welcome, Annette.
17:52 How are you?
17:53 I'm good.
17:54 Thank you so much.
17:55 Always glad to be here.
17:56 And I love talking about Plexaderm because I use it.
17:59 It works.
18:00 I love it.
18:01 All right.
18:02 While we, of course, watch the before and after of these photos on the screen, tell
18:07 us why Plexaderm did a new trial offer.
18:10 Of course, because they believe seeing is believing.
18:13 As you can see here, this is Georgene.
18:15 She was one of the ones that wanted to give it a try.
18:17 We brought her in, set up the camera, and you're watching real results.
18:20 These are the results that you can expect to see happen at home.
18:23 And I'm telling you, I used it for my dark circles, my deep set forehead lines, and I
18:27 couldn't believe my eyes.
18:29 Take a before and after picture if it's the first time you're using it.
18:32 We have a six-day, six-application trial pack for $14.95, free shipping, plus a 30-day money
18:38 back guarantee.
18:39 That's how confident we are in our product.
18:41 You will be, too, once you give it a try.
18:43 Take our challenge.
18:44 Well, I know you have brought some untouched video, which is amazing here.
18:49 Are people just calling you day and night just going, "Hey, listen, we've got to do
18:53 this"?
18:54 Is this for real?
18:55 Yes, because when something works, it explodes, and everybody talks about Plexer.
19:01 I am telling you, most people in my family are using Plexer.
19:04 I travel a lot.
19:05 I get stopped because this product works.
19:07 It takes 10 minutes, lasts 10 hours, as long as you don't get it wet.
19:11 It works incredible with water-based cosmetics, but less makeup because you have less to cover
19:16 up, and you can stay away from those painful injections.
19:19 I never liked those, and you can save money.
19:21 I like that.
19:22 Okay, here goes some more pictures.
19:24 I've got to ask.
19:26 I mean, 10 minutes, no doctor visits.
19:29 I mean, nothing here, right?
19:32 Nothing.
19:33 And most people can benefit from this product.
19:35 The first signs of aging.
19:37 I had a 90-year-old secretary that uses it.
19:40 She loves it.
19:41 And men are some of our best customers.
19:43 My dad uses this product every single day because he has those under-eye bags, and nothing
19:48 covers those up.
19:49 With Plexer, you don't need to because what it does is it creates an invisible layer that
19:53 tightens and smooths the skin right before your eyes.
19:55 All right, you just said something very important there in that you said men and women are using
20:00 Plexer, but is it the same serum, the same formula?
20:04 It is, yes, and because it goes on natural with no residue, nobody's going to know that
20:09 you're using it.
20:10 It's why men love this product so much, but you're going to get compliments on your skin.
20:14 My dad hears it all the time.
20:16 All right, okay, so let's do this.
20:19 Let's talk about, of course, the studies that Plexiderm has done about this.
20:23 Yeah, so two studies.
20:25 They did how long it lasted and the effectiveness, and as far as the effectiveness, they found
20:30 80% reduction around the eye area.
20:32 That is the top reason why people use Plexiderm.
20:35 They saw a 74% reduction around the mouth area and an 85% reduction around the forehead
20:41 area, which is where I use it.
20:42 And again, it lasts up to 10 hours as long as you don't get it wet, so stay out of the
20:46 rain and you are good to go.
20:48 All right, and so about washing this, can you wash it off every day?
20:51 Is that what you do?
20:52 Yes, it's easy to put on, easy to take off.
20:55 This is Laura.
20:56 She is one of my favorites.
20:57 She looks like her younger sister there.
20:59 And another great part about Plexiderm is it helps you on the inside because when you
21:03 look great on the outside, it is a bonus.
21:06 I have a friend that was taking care of her mom.
21:08 She's in her 40s.
21:09 And she wrote me, "Annette, does Plexiderm work?
21:11 I just don't look like myself.
21:12 I'm exhausted."
21:13 I sent her Plexiderm.
21:14 She called me crying.
21:15 She said, "This has changed my life.
21:17 I haven't looked like this since before my mom."
21:19 And it just gave me that confidence boost that I needed, and it warms my heart.
21:23 I was so happy.
21:24 Oh, my gosh.
21:25 I'll tell you, Annette, this is awesome for people to, of course, a 10-minute challenge,
21:29 very easy to do, and, of course, not very expensive creams they have to have anymore,
21:34 right?
21:35 Absolutely.
21:36 And what I love about this is if you're on a budget or didn't want to go full on a bottle,
21:42 $14.95 to see those fine lines and wrinkles disappear, plus free shipping, plus a 30-day
21:47 money-back guarantee.
21:48 You have to see this with your own eyes, literally, and call the 1-800-664-6599.
21:54 That quick, that easy.
21:55 Perfect.
21:56 Annette, thank you very much for joining us.
21:58 And that's true.
21:59 You can spend a lot on creams, and it's nice to see a product like Plexiderm that gives
22:02 you real results.
22:04 Let's give your viewers a chance to get that Plexiderm by, of course, going to the 10-minute
22:08 challenge today at PlexidermTrial.com for just $14.95, plus shipping free by visiting,
22:14 again, PlexidermTrial.com or call the number on the screen.
22:18 So, thank you very much, Annette.
22:21 Thank you so much for having me.
22:23 And we want to thank Plexiderm for sponsoring this segment.
22:26 All right, coming up, find out how you can win tickets to a spring training game at Sloan
22:34 Park when the show that's all good, Arizona Daily Mix, returns here on CW7.
22:41 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored by Plexiderm.
22:54 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
22:57 Welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
23:05 Still to come, if you've started to dabble in digital banking, which I feel like everybody's
23:11 doing that now, but we are getting you some tips from an expert to make sure you're getting
23:16 all of the benefits you possibly can.
23:18 And when they say digital banking, is it like the Bitcoin and stuff like that, or is it
23:23 using your app?
23:25 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:26 So that's what I think a lot of people do because honestly, you go to the banks now
23:32 and nobody's in the line, nobody's at the ATM.
23:35 No, there's no one there.
23:37 And so you're like, "Oh, what do I do with my money?"
23:40 Even cash, people are like, "You got cash?"
23:42 I'm like, "Yeah."
23:43 I know, I never carry any cash.
23:45 So, crazy.
23:46 Plus, while we are getting close to National Heart Health Month to finish up, it's still
23:52 important to get the most out of heart-healthy foods that you can put in your diet.
23:56 And we have some delicious recipes you need to try.
23:59 So, some sweet potatoes.
24:01 Oh, those are sweet potatoes.
24:03 Yeah, sweet potatoes.
24:04 With bananas?
24:05 Yeah, waiting till you hear what she has planned.
24:07 Interesting.
24:08 So, yeah, you'll be very surprised for having them for breakfast.
24:12 In a good way.
24:14 Okay, it is...
24:15 Hold on, I gotta wait.
24:18 It is 9.30 and 51, because we said after 9.30.
24:23 There you go, I think it counts.
24:24 I think this counts.
24:25 This counts?
24:26 We're at 9.31 and a half.
24:28 That counts.
24:29 Well, 9.30 and now it is your chance to go to a spring training baseball game.
24:35 That's right.
24:36 CW Enspinados Pizzeria and Family Kitchen are teaming up to send you out to the ballpark.
24:41 All you have to do is simply head over to aztv.com/rwin and enter your chance to score
24:47 tickets to a game.
24:48 Now, I'm telling you right now, this is very important because it's Sloan Park.
24:51 Is it right out to Sloan or any cactus game?
24:55 Any cactus game?
24:56 Still, they're going pretty quickly.
24:57 There's nothing better than a day at the park with the family and thanks to Pinatos for
25:00 making it all happen.
25:02 Do you get a piece of pizza before you go?
25:04 That's Pinatos pizza, isn't it?
25:05 I know.
25:06 Man, that is to die for.
25:08 That's what you do.
25:09 Well, see, the thing is, some of the games are in the afternoon, so I would say go there
25:12 and eat lunch and then go over to a game.
25:14 There you go.
25:15 Or just go get a pizza and then go to the game.
25:16 Can you bring a pizza in?
25:17 Well, Pinatos has a pizza at the game.
25:19 They're like one of the pizza people for Cactus League.
25:23 But I don't know if it was just one park, is it Sloan Park or is it all?
25:28 Does anybody know?
25:29 Can someone find out?
25:30 Because that's the important thing.
25:31 If it's the Cubbies and also, too, am I allowed to enter?
25:34 Are we allowed to?
25:35 No, you're definitely not allowed.
25:37 Well, I'll have Josh enter and nobody will know.
25:41 Or Arlo can enter.
25:43 I'll have Arlo enter.
25:44 There you go.
25:45 Let's do some trending.
25:46 Brought to you by Gerber Draw where we thank them for sponsoring this part of the Arizona Daily Mix.
25:51 And this is where we throw their net, the social media websites, their own backyard to give you something to talk about.
25:55 And one thing that you found.
25:57 Something that we're talking about today.
25:58 If you were sick of celebrities coming out with their own alcohol brands, well, we got more for you.
26:05 So hopefully you're not because George Clooney recently announced that he is going to be releasing a wine with his wife, Amal.
26:12 So they actually have a 10-acre estate in -- let me make sure I'm saying this correctly.
26:19 Where is it?
26:20 It is in Brinole, France.
26:25 It's in between Toulon and Marseille and Saint-Tropez.
26:29 See my French there for you guys?
26:30 Wow, that's really good.
26:31 So anyways, they're going to be releasing a white and a rose.
26:35 And this is a vineyard that was already kind of established on the estate that they purchased.
26:40 So it's not like they are taking up wine making.
26:43 This was already something that was kind of established.
26:45 But they will be releasing those two wines coming up later in this year.
26:48 So be sure to kind of keep your eyes open because if you want to have a little piece of George and Amal's wine estate, it will be out later this year.
26:56 And George used to have tequila, so there you go.
26:58 Well, there you go.
26:59 So he must be a real alcoholic.
27:02 I'm going to say a wine connoisseur of a tequila wine.
27:07 I don't know.
27:08 I like it all.
27:09 It's all good.
27:10 All right, guys, coming up, find out about the great activities Jerome has to offer when we come back with Manic Managed Mom, Rachel Harris.
27:18 All right.
27:29 Arizona has some great little towns to visit.
27:31 And our Managed Mom, Rachel Harris, has been showing us things to do in Jerome, Arizona.
27:35 And now we're on to her second favorite or it could be her first favorite because I think food is the first or is this the first?
27:43 And then there's wine and all that.
27:44 But I went with the Julees.
27:46 It's Rachel and the Julees.
27:47 I got to give a shout out to them.
27:48 They shot a lot of the video for me and stuff.
27:50 But let's start rolling that video because I brought so much.
27:53 So, again, thank you to your crew for all the help.
27:55 So the Flatiron Cafe is a cool place to know about.
27:58 The building it's in, built in 1903, is historic itself.
28:02 And the coffee is really, really good.
28:05 They've got homemade breakfast and soups.
28:08 That's the picture of this parfait.
28:09 Look, you get your money's worth.
28:10 Look at all that egg.
28:11 And the Mr. Egg sandwich.
28:13 And that's the yummy homemade strawberry scone.
28:16 Surprise, surprise, right above the cafe, they have a flat.
28:21 Accommodations if you want to rent that.
28:23 And it's got a little kitchenette, nice comfy bed, and views of the Verde Valley and the Mogollon Rim.
28:31 So, got to know about that place.
28:33 Okay, my favorite sport is wine tasting.
28:36 So if we can roll that video.
28:38 And there are a lot of places to--we need to go back to the wine tasting video coming up.
28:43 There's really--there we go.
28:44 Innocent Grapes Died for E.A. Brad.
28:46 So there's a lot of places to wine taste there.
28:48 That's Passion Cellars.
28:50 And Passion Cellars works with Salvatore Vineyards.
28:54 The tasting is great.
28:55 You can also sample olive oils.
28:57 You can sit outdoors in the second room.
29:00 And they also sell things like handcrafted soaps and little yum-yums, the chocolates.
29:05 Now, Brad, do you think I like the wine?
29:07 You know what?
29:08 You got three glasses there.
29:10 Yeah, so I did, and so did the Juleys.
29:12 There they go.
29:13 So we definitely recommend that.
29:14 This is Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards.
29:17 You might know about this place because it's owned by--launched by rock star Maynard James Keenan from the Tool Band, right?
29:23 But his great-grandfather was actually a winemaker in Italy.
29:27 There are the Juleys again.
29:28 And last but not least, we have the original Jerome Winery.
29:31 Their wine comes from Dragoon Mountain Vineyards in Wilcox.
29:36 Absolutely love the wine tasting.
29:38 Other places in Jerome as well.
29:39 We just hit the three.
29:40 Yeah.
29:41 Okay, state parks.
29:42 You love to go to state parks, don't you?
29:43 Yes, yes.
29:44 So I'm big on that.
29:45 So, Jerome State Park, let's take a look at that because you don't want to miss that.
29:49 So it used to be the Douglas Mansion, and he ran the Daisy Mine from 1916 to 1935.
29:56 So this was his house.
29:57 Now it's a museum.
29:58 You learn all about the history of the copper mining, Verde Valley, Jerome, lots of pictures, lots of exhibits.
30:06 And they also have things outside to see.
30:09 Beautiful view there of Sunshine Hill.
30:12 Make sure after you leave the museum that you go down the hill.
30:16 I love this.
30:17 This is Audrey Headframe Park.
30:19 It's the largest wooden mine headframe still standing in Arizona.
30:22 And I'm looking down.
30:23 Look at the shot I got.
30:24 Wow.
30:25 It's on the shaft.
30:26 It's right next to the shaft, 1,900 feet, taller than the Eiffel Tower.
30:30 It was amazing.
30:31 And can you imagine, that's the elevator they used to go down.
30:33 And you know, a lot of miners died.
30:35 So to go back in their footsteps and see that was incredible.
30:37 It's crazy.
30:38 So, wow.
30:39 Still time for more?
30:40 Go ahead, one more.
30:41 Okay, one more.
30:42 Stuff to do outside.
30:43 Okay, Brad, don't be scared.
30:44 I'm taking you on the Jerome Ghost Walk.
30:46 And look, Brad, it comes with the spirit boxes.
30:49 So if you're brave enough to talk to the ghost, that's in the old Haskins apartment house from 1888.
30:55 Brad, I think you might have been a little scared.
30:57 Oh, yeah.
30:58 But, you know, they're friendly ghosts.
30:59 And then the thing I love about tours, walking tours, is they take you through the town and then they tell you other places to go.
31:05 So the next day we went back and checked this out.
31:07 That was the Bartlett Hotel.
31:09 All right.
31:10 And it's free.
31:11 It's outdoors.
31:12 So they show you what used to be the hotel rooms with these cool exhibits, the old fire truck from 1933.
31:18 A lot of the structures in Jerome became unstable in the '30s because of the dynamite blasting due to the mining.
31:24 The old hotel doors.
31:25 So when that started sliding, they shut it down.
31:28 The sliding jail.
31:30 It slid.
31:31 It landed there.
31:32 They preserved it.
31:33 So that's kind of cool to see as well.
31:35 And look how creepy.
31:36 There's an old bed that an inmate may have slept in, Brad.
31:39 Wow.
31:40 Yes.
31:41 So how's that?
31:42 Yeah, that is such amazing.
31:43 It is a lot up there, a lot of history and stuff.
31:44 Yeah.
31:45 And there's stuff I didn't get to as well.
31:46 But it is on my website so you can check other hotels.
31:49 There's a really cool movie theater museum that you would love.
31:52 So go to my website at managedmoms.com to see that and all the links.
31:55 There it is.
31:56 I like it.
31:57 So Jerome, very easy to get to.
31:58 And that's what I love, all these little places you can go and enjoy.
32:00 You took us to Bisbee, now Jerome.
32:01 Oh, all over.
32:02 And anywhere with wine tasting.
32:03 And thank you for having me, Brad.
32:04 I love doing my road trip with Rach.
32:06 We love road trip with Rach, the managed mom.
32:08 So, all right.
32:09 Hey, we have more of the mix after this.
32:11 So come on back.
32:12 [music playing]
32:14 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix
32:16 is sponsored on behalf of Chase by KEF Media.
32:20 Checking credit scores, browsing travel discounts, managing loans.
32:24 These days, your mobile banking app can do it all.
32:27 Last week, I talked with author and financial guru, Yaneli Espinel,
32:31 who's giving us a crash course in making the most of your money.
32:34 And today, we're going to take a look at a new app
32:36 that's been launched by Chase.
32:38 Last week, I talked with author and financial guru, Yaneli Espinel,
32:42 who's giving us a crash course in making the most out of your digital banking.
32:46 [music playing]
32:48 Yaneli, thank you so much for being here today.
32:50 [music playing]
32:52 Thank you so much for having me.
32:54 OK, so you help teach people about personal finance
32:57 through your book, your social media, in a really fun and engaging way.
33:00 Can you give us a few tips?
33:02 [music playing]
33:04 I always start with, you got to create a written money plan.
33:08 And this is so important.
33:10 It can't be overstated because a lot of people assume that
33:13 it's OK to keep track of certain things in their head,
33:16 you know, mental accounting.
33:18 But you got to have a written plan so you can refer to it
33:20 and see if you're making progress towards those financial goals.
33:23 And that could be something like how much money I want to save each week
33:27 or how much money I want to invest each month,
33:29 maybe even how much I want to earn this year
33:31 or what credit score I want to have, right?
33:33 But the more specific, the better.
33:35 And then you can also extend that written money plan
33:38 into digital fashion by using digital tools and financial technology
33:42 to help you manage these financial goals a lot easier.
33:46 Those are some great tips, Yaneli.
33:48 So I know for myself and tons of people out there,
33:51 banking apps are all the rage right now.
33:54 What are some things we can do on those apps beyond just transacting?
33:57 [music playing]
33:59 Yeah, I love this question.
34:01 I know a lot of people have that misconception
34:03 that banking apps are just for banking transactions,
34:05 but there's so many financial health tools now on these apps
34:08 that you can take advantage of.
34:10 You can get travel rewards.
34:12 You can take a look at shopping discounts.
34:14 You can check your credit score, which a lot of people don't realize.
34:17 You can do that right in the mobile banking app.
34:19 You can send and receive money,
34:21 so you can send money to your family members and your friends.
34:24 And, of course, you know, back in the day,
34:26 we had to walk our paper checks to the bank.
34:28 Now you can deposit the check just by taking a picture of it.
34:31 So these features make banking a lot more convenient.
34:34 Absolutely, yes.
34:35 I take advantage of the picture-taking all the time.
34:38 It is so much nicer than waiting in line to deposit the check.
34:41 Yeah, it's so much better.
34:43 What about an all-in-one app that helps us save money?
34:46 Yeah, I mean, I think that one of the biggest goals
34:50 that most people have is they want to save more money.
34:53 But saving money is really hard to do
34:55 because we're wired to want to spend money when we get it.
34:58 So automatically saving is going to be something that you want to leverage.
35:02 And these financial apps--
35:04 I mean, when I tell you your banking app is going to make it so easy.
35:07 If you're a Chase customer, you can just go into your banking app
35:10 and set up Chase AutoSave,
35:12 which means you get to decide how much money
35:14 you want to automatically move from your checking account
35:17 into your savings account, and you decide how frequently,
35:19 whether that's weekly or monthly.
35:21 And then another feature that I really like is a little newer.
35:24 It's the Pay in 4.
35:26 So if you have maybe a larger transaction,
35:28 you can click on that right in the app,
35:30 and then you could choose to do Pay in 4,
35:32 which allows you to break that up into four smaller payments.
35:35 So it just kind of frees up a little bit more cash in your budget
35:38 and allows you to have that money set aside
35:40 just in case an unexpected expense pops up,
35:43 because we all know that happens often.
35:46 So having that extra little cash there
35:48 is really going to help you be a little bit less stressed,
35:51 and again, just helps you to prioritize saving a little bit more.
35:54 I haven't heard of the Pay in 4 use yet,
35:58 so that's really interesting. I'll have to try that out.
36:00 But I know for my husband and I,
36:02 we take advantage of the mobile app all the time.
36:04 But what about for different generations,
36:06 people like our parents' age?
36:08 How are they using the mobile apps toward their financial health?
36:11 Yeah, great question.
36:15 The good thing is this recent Chase survey
36:17 shows that 80% of people are using banking apps at least once a week.
36:22 So we're all using these apps, right?
36:24 There's not this generational divide,
36:26 which I think a lot of people might assume there is.
36:29 But the difference is really in how we're leveraging these apps.
36:32 So if you're a Gen Z or if you're a millennial,
36:35 you're a lot more likely to open up your banking app
36:37 in order to send money or to receive money.
36:40 So that might be splitting payments for your rent.
36:42 If you live in a high-cost-of-living city,
36:44 you might have to split rent or split your mortgage,
36:46 or maybe you share expenses with your partner.
36:48 So you want to split the grocery bill
36:50 or you want to split the utility bill.
36:52 And so you can do all of that right from the mobile banking app.
36:55 But also, if you're younger,
36:57 you're going to care a lot more about your credit score
37:00 because you might need to borrow for a car loan soon
37:02 or a mortgage loan soon.
37:04 And so because of that, you tend to see younger consumers
37:07 go into the app to look at their credit and to monitor their credit
37:10 a lot more often than older generations might.
37:13 Yanely, thank you so much.
37:14 Where can viewers go for more information?
37:16 Yeah, so if you want to learn more about how to better take advantage
37:21 of all of these financial health tools in your banking app,
37:25 visit Chase.com/mobile.
37:28 I love it. All right, Yanely, thank you so much.
37:30 This is some great tips. You have a great rest of your day.
37:32 You too. Thank you.

37:55 As we finish up Heart Health Month,
37:59 it's a perfect time to spotlight Baco Sweet Potatoes.
38:02 And last week, I talked with registered dietician Veronica Rouse
38:05 about how some easy recipes you can make with sweet potatoes.
38:12 Hi, Veronica. How are you?
38:14 Good, thanks. How are you, Brad?
38:16 I'm doing very good, because for some reason,
38:18 I have really gotten into sweet potatoes
38:20 because of different ways that you can enjoy them.
38:22 So let's talk about, of course, Baco Sweet Potatoes
38:26 and how they fit into our heart-healthy lifestyle.
38:29 Exactly. Yes, thank you for having me back
38:32 to continue to celebrate Heart Health Month in February.
38:35 I'm here with Baco Sweet to talk about
38:38 how sweet potatoes can enhance your heart health.
38:41 So it's not just me, a registered dietician,
38:43 saying that sweet potatoes can enhance your heart health,
38:46 but the American Heart Association also has this badge of honor
38:49 they put on the Baco Sweet baked potato bag,
38:53 saying that it's an American Heart Association
38:55 certified heart-healthy food.
38:57 I like that. Now, I know we know sweet potatoes
39:00 and baked potatoes for, of course, dinner,
39:03 but can they be used for other, of course,
39:05 delicious dishes throughout the day?
39:07 Exactly. Yes. When I'm talking to my clients
39:11 about how to include more sweet potatoes,
39:13 they're usually thinking mainly dinner,
39:16 but I wanted to highlight some ways to include them
39:19 for breakfast and lunch, as well as snacks.
39:22 So we'll start with breakfast.
39:24 I have a breakfast baked potato,
39:27 kind of like a loaded baked potato you would make for dinner
39:31 with some, traditionally, I guess, for dinner,
39:34 it'd be baked beans or guacamole, salsa,
39:37 something like that for breakfast.
39:39 You can do the same, but I usually have the base
39:43 as Greek yogurt for some protein,
39:46 and then some fruit, could be dried or fresh,
39:49 and my kids always love to top it with some chocolate chips, too,
39:53 so you can have a little bit of fun with it.
39:55 I like that. All right.
39:57 Next, what do you have for us?
39:59 Yeah, then next I have a lunch.
40:01 So this is a sweet potato toast,
40:03 and the great thing about Baco Sweet Potatoes
40:06 is they're super quick to make.
40:09 All you have to do is put them in the microwave
40:11 for about five minutes, and they're cooked.
40:13 So you could do the same with a baked potato for breakfast,
40:15 and then what I did here was I just sliced that baked potato
40:19 in, like, maybe a quarter-inch thick slices.
40:22 So instead of the bread that we typically have for our toast,
40:26 we're just going to substitute the bread out
40:28 and substitute the sweet potato in,
40:31 and then you can just layer it with traditional toast toppings.
40:34 So I have a savory mozzarella tomato basil
40:39 with balsamic vinegar, as well as a trendy avocado toast,
40:44 and then another peanut butter and jam
40:47 or peanut butter and fruits topped with some nuts and seeds.
40:50 So lots of different combinations,
40:52 but a lot more heart-healthy nutrients.
40:55 You have the fiber, the potassium, the vitamin A.
40:57 It's going to keep you full until dinner.
40:59 Right. Okay, very quickly, Veronica,
41:01 before we go to the next dish, explain again.
41:03 Do we toast the baked potato, the sweet potato,
41:07 or what do we do there?
41:09 Yeah, exactly. You could do it two ways.
41:11 One is you can bake the baked potato in the microwave.
41:15 So you could put it in the microwave for about five minutes
41:18 and then slice it, or you could put it on the stovetop.
41:22 So slice it into that quarter-inch thick slices
41:25 and then grill it on the stovetop.
41:27 So either way will work.
41:29 All right, I like that. And then a salad.
41:31 Everyone forgets. Do you enjoy it with salad?
41:34 Exactly. And I'm all about quick dishes,
41:37 so all of these dishes actually come together within 20 minutes.
41:40 But basically I throw in the green lentils into the Instapot
41:44 at the same time as I'm microwaving my baked potato for five minutes.
41:49 Then you chop up some red onions, some parsley,
41:52 some extra virgin olive oil and vinegar for dressing,
41:55 and it comes together really quickly, but it's so delicious.
41:59 Lots of fiber, lots of heart-healthy nutrients there
42:02 that's going to support your heart health in the long run.
42:05 I like that. And I think when people hear sweet potatoes,
42:07 they think, okay, it's going to be very, very sugary
42:10 or very not good for you, but not really.
42:13 It's the other way around, right?
42:15 Exactly, yeah. I always think of it as like an elevated white potato
42:18 because you have all those extra nutrients that are making it sweeter.
42:22 I like that. Okay, where can we find more about the Baco Sweet Potatoes
42:26 and all these great heart-healthy dishes?
42:28 Yes. So you can find Baco Sweet Potatoes
42:32 at your local grocery store. Walmart, Sprouts has them.
42:36 And I would check out their website too, Bacosweet.com,
42:39 because they have so many wonderful recipes
42:42 that you can use to sweeten your everyday.
42:44 There it is. Veronica, thank you very much for joining us this morning.
