00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:05 And it all starts right now.
00:08 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:12 [CLAPPING]
00:14 Ma!
00:14 [LAUGHTER]
00:15 Good morning, and welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:18 I am Brad Perry.
00:19 And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:20 It's been a slow get into the studio day.
00:24 We're all a little, like, slowly arriving and getting ready.
00:27 So welcome.
00:28 Good morning.
00:29 Good morning.
00:29 Today on the show, if you like theater or coffee,
00:31 then this is a great day for you because the Herberger Theater
00:35 is teaming up with Dark Hall Coffee.
00:38 And we're going to, of course, talk
00:40 to them about their partnership and what it's all about.
00:42 Well, this is really cool because I
00:44 think the show that they're doing right now
00:46 really lends itself to the name of this coffee shop, Dark Hall
00:51 Coffee.
00:51 Yeah.
00:51 So it'll be fun to talk about the show,
00:53 about what they have coming up, and then this partnership,
00:55 which this coffee shop looks super cute.
00:56 So definitely go check that out.
00:58 Also, the true crime fans of the world
01:01 can rejoice because Crime Nation is now here on CW7.
01:04 And we're chatting with the host of the show
01:06 to get a little sneak peek of what we can expect this season.
01:10 I know.
01:11 True crime shows are all the rage.
01:14 They're-- that's all I've been watching lately.
01:16 So it should be very interesting.
01:17 Some of the stories are going to be beautiful.
01:19 True crime shows, though, I am a fan.
01:21 But they always freak me out because it's like,
01:24 could this happen to me?
01:25 What would I do?
01:25 Like, you know what I mean?
01:26 Like, you go through that in your mind.
01:28 And then, like, for some people, they go, hmm,
01:30 could I get away with it?
01:31 Hmm.
01:31 Oh, no.
01:32 See, that's the bad side of it.
01:34 That is the bad side of it.
01:35 Yeah.
01:36 Oh, no.
01:36 Plus, we all know I'm a big hat guy.
01:39 I love hats.
01:39 And the folks from Straw and Wool
01:41 are here to elevate our hat game for spring.
01:44 And these guys, I'm telling you, they can make
01:47 anybody look good in a hat.
01:48 If you don't think you can wear a hat, these two right here--
01:53 You know what?
01:53 I don't think I'm really a hat gal.
01:55 So maybe we should try a--
01:57 Oh, no.
01:57 They'll get you into a hat.
01:58 You'll be very surprised.
01:59 All right.
02:00 All right.
02:00 I'm always down to try.
02:02 You know why?
02:02 Because it comes down to fitting.
02:04 That's the problem that people have.
02:06 They know how to fit someone's head well.
02:08 Yeah, because you might like a hat on some girl.
02:10 And you're like, oh, gosh, I like that.
02:11 But it's not good for you.
02:13 But there's a hat like it that they can put on you.
02:15 See, I just-- I'm such a hair person.
02:17 Like, my hair is my thing.
02:19 So I always feel like, well, I can't wear a hat,
02:21 because, you know, hair.
02:23 But maybe I need to--
02:25 You style your hair, because this looks nice long.
02:27 And then put a hat on it, just to give it a little--
02:28 Sure.
02:28 Sure.
02:29 Yeah, I know.
02:30 We'll have to try it.
02:30 We'll have to--
02:30 We're going to get you going there.
02:31 --give it a shot.
02:32 Because cowboy hats are in now.
02:34 I know.
02:34 Cowboy hats are in, because Beyonce is now going country.
02:38 She--
02:39 Yes.
02:39 It's wild.
02:40 So this is wild.
02:40 It's wild.
02:41 Already, as you know, she has dropped--
02:44 if you haven't heard yet, Texas Hold 'Em
02:45 has been big on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok,
02:48 everything like that.
02:50 And she dropped, of course, the announcement
02:52 on Super Bowl Sunday--
02:53 or Big Game Sunday.
02:54 Sorry.
02:55 Right.
02:55 Hopefully, I don't get in trouble.
02:56 I thought she was dropping some new tracks.
02:58 And they've been playing on country music.
03:00 But we can only play 16 carriage is--
03:02 Right.
03:03 So two songs came out.
03:04 So Texas Hold 'Em is kind of the more popular one, I would say.
03:07 Yes.
03:08 I think people are really using that in social media dances
03:12 and stuff.
03:12 People are loving it.
03:13 I did a dance.
03:13 So if you go to my Instagram, you'll see me.
03:14 There you go.
03:14 You can hear it on Brad's Instagram.
03:16 Yep.
03:16 But we can't play that one.
03:18 Because it's a little--
03:19 Beyonce.
03:20 Beyonce.
03:20 But that's all.
03:21 She works blue in that one--
03:22 Yes.
03:23 --as we say.
03:24 So--
03:24 But this is--
03:25 So we can play her other one, though.
03:26 Yeah.
03:26 16 Carriages.
03:27 Can we hear it?
03:27 (SINGING) I saw Mama praying.
03:29 I saw Daddy grind.
03:31 All my tender problems had to leave behind.
03:35 It's been umpteen summers, and I'm not in my bed.
03:37 On the back of the bus in a bunk with the band.
03:39 Going so hard, gotta choose myself.
03:41 Underpaid and overwhelmed.
03:43 I might cook clean, but steel won't fold.
03:45 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
03:46 I like it.
03:46 I like it.
03:47 [APPLAUSE]
03:47 You know what is good about this is that she still
03:50 has her signature Beyonce sound.
03:52 Yeah.
03:53 Like her voice.
03:54 She's not doing anything to affect her sound
03:56 or change the way her voice sounds.
03:58 It still sounds like Beyonce.
03:59 Yeah.
03:59 She didn't go twanging--
04:00 Yes.
04:01 --like some people do when they go country.
04:03 Yes.
04:03 They over-affect a sound in their voice.
04:05 But she didn't do that.
04:06 She just still sounds like her.
04:07 No.
04:08 But it's just the style of music.
04:09 That's good.
04:09 And so far, it has reached 1.5 million as we're--
04:13 that was a couple days ago.
04:14 So it's probably more.
04:15 Probably more, yeah.
04:16 It started number 54 on the Billboard's country airplay
04:19 chart.
04:20 OK.
04:20 And so it's moving up there.
04:22 And she's known for eight number one songs on the Billboard's Hot 100.
04:25 That's a pretty big deal for an artist who is not a country artist--
04:29 Yeah.
04:29 --to already place on--
04:31 On the country.
04:31 --the Billboard charts--
04:32 Yeah.
04:32 --like for country.
04:33 That's a pretty big deal.
04:34 But what's kind of interesting, I've been also like flowing through it.
04:38 So I guess that's a new word my kids go, flow through your Instagram.
04:41 I'm like, oh.
04:43 I'm so out of touch.
04:44 I'm like--
04:44 I know.
04:44 She's like, flow through--
04:45 Is that not-- do you know what--
04:47 slide into DMs?
04:47 I don't know.
04:48 What?
04:48 Yeah.
04:49 When it first came out, people were calling country radio stations
04:53 to play.
04:53 Asking them to play it.
04:54 And they're like, we don't play Beyonce.
04:55 What are you talking about?
04:56 Yeah.
04:57 Interesting.
04:57 I'm like, Beyonce's not country.
04:58 That's R&B.
04:59 And then all of a sudden--
05:00 Everybody was like, oh.
05:01 Oh, it hit.
05:02 So it was crazy.
05:04 So another person who's singing--
05:06 I was going to say, let's keep on the music biz.
05:08 Yeah.
05:08 Because so I'm a huge Kate Hudson fan.
05:11 And now everybody knows Kate Hudson as an actress.
05:13 She was in Almost Famous.
05:15 She was in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which is one of my favorite shows.
05:18 And now she has a new single out, Talk About Love.
05:23 It is here.
05:23 And it's co-written by Linda Perry.
05:25 Linda Perry is one of my all-time favorite artists.
05:29 She's written so many amazing songs.
05:30 She worked with Christina Aguilera.
05:32 But she's known for-- do you know what her biggest song is?
05:36 Hold on.
05:36 No, I don't.
05:37 Because I sing it all the time.
05:40 You know this.
05:40 Oh my gosh.
05:42 I can't think of--
05:43 I can't think of the--
05:44 (SINGING) Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:45 That's right.
05:46 I wake up in the morning--
05:47 [INAUDIBLE]
05:48 I'm like, hey, what's going on?
05:50 What's going on?
05:51 That's her big song.
05:52 Three non-blondes.
05:54 Four non-blondes.
05:55 Four non-blondes.
05:57 Was it three or four?
05:58 Four non-blondes.
05:59 Four non-blondes.
06:01 So yes, so she co-wrote this song with Hudson and Hudson's fiancee,
06:06 I guess.
06:06 That's good to know.
06:07 Yeah, and she plans to record an album.
06:09 So anyways, love, love, love, love Kate Hudson.
06:12 But also we have to say thank you to Gerber Injury Law
06:14 for bringing us this trending today.
06:17 They keep us up to date.
06:18 So thank you to the guys over at Gerber Injury Law.
06:21 There you go.
06:21 All right, coming up, the Herberger Theater Center
06:23 has a delicious partnership that we're
06:26 going to be trying next when The Mix comes back after this.
06:29 [MUSIC PLAYING]
06:32 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix
06:44 is sponsored by Herberger Theater Center and Dark Hall
06:47 Coffee.
06:50 I love a show.
06:52 And we are so excited to have the president of the Herberger
06:55 Theater here to talk about their new show, The Woman in Black,
06:58 playing right now.
07:00 Welcome, Mark.
07:01 Thank you for being here today.
07:03 Thank you very much for having me.
07:04 OK, so before we get into this show, which
07:07 sounds really exciting, I want to talk about the Herberger
07:10 just in general for those who maybe haven't been down
07:12 to visit you guys and see a show yet.
07:14 Tell us a little bit about you.
07:15 Well, we're downtown.
07:16 We're right in the heart of downtown Phoenix.
07:18 We've been there for over 30 years
07:20 and had many, many different types
07:22 of events and performances.
07:24 And this year, we're presenting some theatrical work that's
07:26 coming from international places as well as doing
07:30 local free events outside almost every weekend.
07:34 Oh, that's so fantastic.
07:35 And your location is so easy to spot if you've ever been there
07:39 because you have those fantastic statues outside that
07:42 really kind of mark the theater, that once you know that's
07:45 where it is, you can always spot it.
07:47 Yes, and that is something that people will know us for.
07:51 And you can say, well, it's the place with the statues.
07:54 Oh, yeah, I know that place.
07:55 Exactly.
07:56 But there's a lot going on downtown.
07:57 There's great restaurants around us.
07:59 If you go to our website, you can buy discount parking.
08:02 So it's easy to park and get into the theater
08:05 and make a whole evening out of it as well.
08:07 That is such a great point because I
08:09 know sometimes, for myself included,
08:11 I feel a little bit like, oh, man, going downtown,
08:14 the parking, yada, yada, yada.
08:15 But you guys can do the discounted rates for parking.
08:18 There's a bunch of great areas down there
08:20 to go walk around, make an evening of it,
08:22 have a drink, have dinner.
08:25 But you guys are doing an incredible show
08:27 right now, which is The Woman in Black.
08:28 So tell me a little bit about it.
08:30 Well, it's an amazing story.
08:32 And thank you for addressing the part.
08:33 Of course, yes.
08:34 This is why I wore the all black today.
08:38 Yes, well, it's a great show.
08:40 It ran in the West End in London for 34 years,
08:45 the second longest running show ever.
08:47 There's a reason why people kept going back and then
08:49 brought their children, saw it as part of a school show
08:53 maybe, and then came back and came back.
08:55 Everybody likes to be scared, whether or not
08:57 they admit it.
08:58 But everybody likes that little bit of tingle
09:01 as well as some jump scares.
09:03 And this show has all of that.
09:05 So it's an amazing story that really plays itself out
09:08 over the course of the time.
09:10 And you start learning more and more
09:11 about this mysterious woman in black
09:14 and how she has affected--
09:18 The people around her, I think.
09:19 --the people around her and who is--
09:22 and how they just need to tell their story.
09:24 They just need to tell it to you to make it more real.
09:28 Wow, this sounds fantastic.
09:30 And what a great premise for a show
09:32 that they need to get their story out,
09:34 because that's what the actors are doing on stage, right?
09:37 They're getting their story out.
09:38 So you really feel like you are a part of it.
09:40 So you said it's the second longest running straight play.
09:45 And now, tell me what the difference is,
09:46 because I do know, because I'm a fellow thespian.
09:49 But for those who don't know the difference
09:51 between a musical and a straight play.
09:53 Yeah, well, in this case, it is a play with spoken word.
09:58 And they're explaining the whole story.
09:59 There's no singing that goes along with it.
10:01 And musicals will have singing that
10:04 will advance the story, usually.
10:06 Sometimes they're called jukebox musicals,
10:08 where it's just songs by an artist or something.
10:11 But in this case, it's just telling you the story
10:14 and letting that play out, both on stage
10:16 and in your imagination.
10:17 And I'm sure that lends itself very well to this story,
10:20 being that it's a little scary, a little mysterious.
10:24 So the just spoken word probably lends itself
10:27 very nicely to this story.
10:28 But speaking of musicals, can you
10:30 give us a little tease of some of the other shows
10:33 that you have coming up in your season?
10:35 The big one that we're excited to be talking about
10:39 is Mad Hatter, the musical.
10:40 And it's a brand new musical that
10:42 is telling the tale before Hatter gets to Wonderland,
10:46 before Alice is there.
10:48 And what happens to make him mad?
10:50 And what happens-- and how the story plays out
10:53 to both in Wonderland and out of Wonderland.
10:56 It's really an amazing story.
10:58 It's going to be playing here, world premiere
11:00 in May at the Herberger and on its way
11:03 to New York and Broadway.
11:05 That is incredible.
11:06 You guys have some really exciting stuff coming up,
11:08 including a partnership with Dark Hall Coffee.
11:12 So really quickly, tell me a little bit about that.
11:14 And then we're actually going to hear from Dark Hall Coffee
11:16 themselves.
11:17 Oh, great.
11:17 Yeah, this is a wonderful partnership
11:19 because really, their ambiance and the way their coffee shop
11:24 is just lend itself really nicely to this show.
11:28 And so it's a great partnership.
11:29 You can go and enjoy a coffee and macaroon
11:32 and then come see the show later in the evening.
11:35 That's so perfect.
11:36 All right, Mark, well, thank you so much
11:37 for all this information.
11:38 You can go to the Herberger website
11:40 to learn more, to get those parking passes,
11:42 and get tickets to come see The Woman in Black.
11:44 But right now, let's head out to Brad,
11:46 who is talking with Dark Hall Coffee about the tasty treats
11:49 inspired by The Woman in Black.
11:51 Hey, Brad, tell us all about it.
11:53 Lexi, you guys said it right there.
11:55 The Herberger has teamed up with Dark Hall Coffee
11:58 for some great drinks to go with The Woman in Black
12:01 production.
12:02 So let's head out live to Liz, who's there,
12:05 all dressed ready to go as a lady in black.
12:07 Good morning, Liz.
12:08 How are you?
12:08 Good morning, Liz.
12:13 Can she not hear me?
12:20 Hi, Liz, can you hear me?
12:21 Nope, maybe.
12:25 She doesn't hear me?
12:25 Oh, well, there you go.
12:26 Well, what's happening is that they've teamed up together
12:29 with Herberger to make these amazing coffee
12:31 drinks in a cute little place right there in the Coronado
12:33 area in downtown Phoenix, which is really nice.
12:37 Here goes some of the little--
12:38 We are at Dark Hall Coffee.
12:39 We are on 12th Street and Oak in the Coronado Historic
12:43 District.
12:44 We are right on the corner and have the Coronado restaurant
12:48 right next door.
12:49 We are doing this partnership with the Herberger.
12:53 Very excited to have them choose us to do this.
12:55 It really fits with our aesthetic, which is,
12:58 as you can see, also dark and moody.
13:01 And it brought a lot of people from the community
13:04 that we maybe would have never seen in our shop come in here.
13:09 And our customers also becoming aware of what
13:12 the Herberger does, which has been amazing.
13:16 I asked you what kind of drinks they have.
13:17 And the offerings that we have, you probably saw.
13:26 We have our gluten-free London Fog Macarons.
13:30 And London Fog is Earl Grey with added lavender.
13:33 And those are made here in-house daily.
13:36 And we also have the Woman in Black Latte.
13:40 And what that is is our black mocha with activated charcoal
13:44 and an Arcadia orange sugar cube,
13:47 which adds a little bit of citrus flavor, a shot of espresso,
13:50 and then steamed milk.
13:55 Great.
13:57 Again, what are your hours?
13:58 And the hours that we're open are 7 AM to 5 PM,
14:06 seven days a week.
14:07 We are here to serve.
14:09 I love it.
14:09 Liz, thank you very much.
14:11 I know we couldn't hear that first.
14:13 So thank you very much.
14:14 And again, it's the Dark Hall Coffee.
14:16 And you can catch them on IG.
14:17 Come on back.
14:18 We got more of the mix for you right after this.
14:23 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix
14:25 was sponsored by Herberger Theater
14:27 Center and Dark Hall Coffee.
14:29 The 14th annual Dog Days of Glendale event
14:51 is back in the West Valley.
14:52 And we are so pleased to have Linda Moran-Whitley here
14:56 and multiple guests to talk about the exciting event
14:59 that's coming up.
15:00 Welcome, everyone.
15:02 Awesome.
15:03 This is so exciting to have you all here, especially our star,
15:05 Ohana, right here.
15:07 But before we get to her story, let's
15:09 talk a little bit about the event
15:10 and what you guys do with Dog Days of Glendale.
15:12 Awesome.
15:13 We're very excited.
15:14 This is going to be our 14th annual event.
15:17 We are moving two blocks north of Murphy Park, which
15:21 is where it's traditionally been for 13 years.
15:24 And we have partnered with the Glendale Elementary School
15:26 District.
15:27 Ohana.
15:27 Ohana.
15:29 Ohana said--
15:30 Our special guest is--
15:31 she's leaving us, but that's OK.
15:33 So we have moved two blocks north.
15:36 And we are going to be at Glendale Landmark School.
15:39 This is Adriana.
15:41 And it's just going to be phenomenal.
15:44 We are inviting everyone to bring
15:45 your furry four-legged friends.
15:47 We have over 60 exhibitors.
15:50 We even have a food truck--
15:53 a dog food food truck.
15:55 Oh my goodness.
15:56 So that's so incredible.
15:57 So there's going to be snacks for your furry friends
16:00 while you're out there.
16:01 And tell me some of the people who will be out there,
16:03 the exhibitors that you were talking about.
16:05 What are people going to look forward to enjoying?
16:08 Well, we are going to have the Glendale Elementary School
16:11 District.
16:12 Adriana can tell you about what they've got planned.
16:14 But we also have three awesome Top Dog sponsors
16:18 that are all going to be on site this year.
16:20 That includes the Glendale Chamber of Commerce,
16:23 Sanderson Ford, and Bark Busters In-Home Training.
16:27 So Sanderson Ford is going to be bringing some of their vehicles
16:31 to showcase, including the new F-150 Lightning Truck.
16:35 Oh, perfect if you have a dog.
16:38 You're right.
16:39 And we're going to be powering one of our exhibitors, who's
16:42 going to be doing a demonstration with the truck.
16:45 OK, very cool.
16:46 This sounds like a great event for people
16:48 who are dog owners, dog lovers, to come out,
16:51 get some more information, and just enjoy a beautiful day.
16:53 So Adriana, tell us a little bit about your guys'
16:55 side of the partnership.
16:56 Well, thank you.
16:57 We are so grateful to be tremendous partners with Dog
17:00 Big Days of Glendale and welcoming the activities
17:03 and the entire event to the Glendale Landmark
17:06 School in the Glendale Elementary School District.
17:08 It is a pleasure because we are rooted
17:12 in the community with historic downtown Glendale.
17:14 And to have this partnership to showcase our schools
17:17 and bring our families together--
17:19 our families include our furry friends
17:22 and all of our children.
17:23 So it's really important for us to be able to showcase
17:26 our school district, but then also to host events like this
17:29 to bring everyone out into the community.
17:31 Definitely.
17:32 And downtown Glendale is such an exciting area of the city.
17:37 There's always so much going on.
17:38 There's so many great areas to walk around and enjoy.
17:41 And this coming Saturday, the event is being held.
17:44 We've been having the most perfect weather.
17:46 So it's just going to be a great time.
17:47 So now that we've heard a little bit about the event,
17:49 I have to hear a little bit about our sweet friend here.
17:53 Tell me about Ohana here.
17:55 I'm going to--
17:56 So Ohana is-- her owner is Cheryl, the other co-chairperson
18:01 for our event.
18:02 And actually, she rescued Ohana.
18:06 She was found under a dumpster nursing her six puppies.
18:11 And so she was rescued from that environment,
18:14 brought here to Phoenix.
18:15 And after it was time for her puppies
18:17 to move on to their new homes, Cheryl
18:20 had been looking for just the special dog to add to her home.
18:26 And through Dog Days of Glendale,
18:28 she was able to meet Ohana.
18:31 And she is the best.
18:32 She's on our planning team, by the way.
18:35 And she is our furry friend advisor.
18:39 Oh, that's fantastic.
18:40 So I assume she gets to try out some of the food that's
18:43 going to be there.
18:44 Absolutely.
18:45 So tell me a little bit more about how
18:46 the partnership works with you guys having Ohana come in.
18:50 And do you help other dogs often?
18:53 Tell me a little bit about how that works.
18:55 Well, at our event, we're going to have six dog rescue groups.
19:00 Some are going to have animals on site.
19:02 Some are not.
19:03 But we want you to speak to them,
19:06 learn all about their organizations,
19:07 see the animals that they have available,
19:09 find out what their process is.
19:12 So there's great opportunity for you
19:14 to add a new member to your home.
19:17 As well as we have Pratt's Pet as an example.
19:20 They're going to be there.
19:22 And they're going to be offering-- several of their dog
19:26 food suppliers will be on site offering food,
19:29 giving you recommendations about the best food for your animals'
19:33 special needs.
19:35 Midwestern University is going to be there.
19:37 They offer great clinic services.
19:39 So you can hear all about that.
19:41 And then there's just a wide variety
19:43 of other pet professionals.
19:45 The whole gamut, whether you want
19:46 a new outfit for your animal, read a book about dogs,
19:50 there's games.
19:51 There's just going to be--
19:53 it's all about Four Lakes.
19:54 It's all about our furry friends.
19:56 So this is fantastic.
19:57 If you already have a wonderful pet in your family
20:01 and you want to add another one, if you want to just come out
20:03 and learn some more about how to better take care of your animals
20:06 and just have a great day outside, this is so great.
20:09 So tell everybody where they can find more information.
20:12 And we have it on the screen as well.
20:13 Sure, you can go to our website, which
20:15 is dogdaysofglendaleaz.com.
20:19 You can find us on all social media.
20:22 Dog Days of Glendale has Instagram, Facebook, Twitter.
20:26 So we're posting daily about all our exhibitors.
20:29 It's going to be Saturday, February 24, 8 AM to 1 PM
20:34 at Glendale Landmark School with Adriana and her team.
20:38 And that is at 5730 West Myrtle.
20:41 OK, that's perfect.
20:42 Thank you both so much for being here.
20:43 Before we go, can we get--
20:45 Ohana, do a little trick for us.
20:47 What does she do?
20:48 What will she do for me?
20:48 Sit pretty.
20:49 Sit?
20:50 Sit pretty.
20:51 Oh, good girl.
20:53 That's our star of the show.
20:55 Good job, Ohana.
20:56 Thank you all for being here today.
20:57 And you can meet her on Saturday.
20:59 There you go.
21:00 That's a perfect reason to come out.
21:01 All right, guys, after the break,
21:02 we're getting an inside look at the new Crime Nation
21:05 series premiering on The CW today.
21:07 So come on back.
21:08 [MUSIC PLAYING]
21:11 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
21:23 [MUSIC PLAYING]
21:31 All right, welcome on back to the second half of the Arizona
21:34 Daily Mix.
21:36 The sunshine-filled days are coming to the Valley.
21:38 We're taking a look at some hats that you
21:41 might need this spring.
21:42 I don't think we should say might.
21:44 I think that you do need this spring.
21:45 Yes, you do need.
21:46 Keep the sun off you, but also style.
21:47 So very important there.
21:48 Plus, the CW7 Arizona is a place for college basketball.
21:52 And we have a look at the match-ups
21:54 you can check out this Saturday.
21:55 And it's been on fire.
21:58 We've had the ladies, NCACC, I think it is.
22:03 And then the men's--
22:04 Totally.
22:04 --are going crazy.
22:05 Yeah.
22:06 But then turn it on and walk and stuff.
22:07 Yeah, but I mean, we have so much incredible stuff
22:09 on our new lineup, guys.
22:10 So we have a new lineup here at CW7.
22:12 So grab your seat on the couch and enjoy
22:14 some laughs with us today.
22:16 Starting this afternoon with two hours of your favorite funny
22:18 man, Steve Harvey, and Family Feud at 4.
22:21 We follow that up with the Big Bang Theory.
22:22 Bring it on the laughs.
22:23 That's at 6 and 630.
22:25 Then we have our new CW primetime lineup.
22:28 With football being over tonight is the new series premiere
22:31 of Crime Nation starting at 7.
22:33 Then it's your favorite funny man again at 9.
22:35 Hang in there for the craziest sitcom on TV, which is Mom at 10.
22:40 And it's all about the smiles here at CW7.
22:43 As we like to say--
22:45 It's all good.
22:47 Wait, how does our theme song go?
22:50 It's all--
22:51 It's all good.
22:52 There it is.
22:53 See?
22:54 We'll do it from now on.
22:55 It's all good.
22:56 It's all good.
22:57 There, I love it.
22:58 So we were talking sports, and you were bringing up a good thing--
23:02 well, not a good thing.
23:03 I had dog hair on me, which I like.
23:06 About the Coyotes.
23:08 Our Coyotes aren't doing too well.
23:09 It's not really a good thing.
23:10 I know.
23:11 They dropped their 10th straight game last night.
23:14 So they're almost like the Pistons then.
23:16 So the Pistons have only won one game, I think.
23:21 This season?
23:22 It's been crazy.
23:23 So they've been very bad.
23:24 It's funny because they started really strong.
23:27 And unfortunately, they've kind of dropped the ball a little bit.
23:30 They've dropped the puck, if you will.
23:33 What are some hockey terms?
23:35 I don't know.
23:35 You played hockey.
23:36 Tell me.
23:37 Offsides.
23:38 They're in the penalty box.
23:39 They're in the penalty box.
23:40 There we go.
23:42 Hacking, checking.
23:45 What else is there?
23:45 What would be one that's like--
23:47 Roughing, fighting.
23:49 Like you say, drop the ball in football or basketball.
23:51 What would be something like that for--
23:52 Drop the puck.
23:53 Drop the puck?
23:53 Drop the puck.
23:54 Or they just--
23:56 Yeah, they're puck heads.
23:57 So there you go.
23:59 That's one right there.
24:00 I like puck heads.
24:01 That's good.
24:01 That's it right there.
24:02 Coyotes have been puck heads this year.
24:04 I have been watching some of the NHL games that
24:07 have been played outside at some of the football stadiums.
24:10 You were telling me about that.
24:11 Because we were all like, no way are they playing outside here.
24:14 But it's not here.
24:16 No.
24:17 I think it was New Jersey and I think in the Flyers.
24:19 Devils in the Flyers that you sang.
24:21 I sang the national anthem for the New Jersey Devils.
24:24 Yeah.
24:26 And then I forgot who it was.
24:28 Who was it?
24:29 Nick Jones was at the Philadelphia one.
24:31 So there they go.
24:33 Some big stars.
24:33 I like that.
24:34 All right.
24:35 This is exciting.
24:36 This is up our alley.
24:37 Brad, I have a statistic here for you.
24:39 So 58% of women say that they enjoy true crime shows.
24:44 I happen to be part of that.
24:45 Ooh, I like that.
24:46 So am I. Well, you are in luck.
24:47 Because here on the CW7, the series premiere of Crime Nation
24:51 is tonight.
24:51 And I'm telling you people, you're
24:53 going to watch this because you're going to not expect
24:55 some of these documentary crimes that they're having.
24:58 Here with us is the Crime Nation contributor, Ashley Banfield.
25:02 Good morning, Ashley.
25:03 How are you?
25:06 I'm great.
25:07 But I'm going to tell you right now,
25:08 I would pay thousands of dollars to go to a hockey
25:11 game outside in Arizona.
25:13 I'm just going to put that out there.
25:16 It would turn into--
25:17 Yeah, I didn't know that it would actually work out.
25:19 It would be a swim meet, actually.
25:20 It would be a swim meet.
25:21 [LAUGHTER]
25:25 So--
25:25 Yeah, you don't want to see--
25:26 I don't think you want to see what it looks like when you
25:29 drop the puck at a swim meet.
25:32 That's not good.
25:32 True.
25:33 So, all right, Ashley, I'm very excited because I am--
25:35 I'm a crime story docuseries person.
25:38 I literally-- you know, every night I could find one.
25:41 I'm so happy that we have one here on the CW7.
25:43 So let's talk about Crime Nation and what this is all about.
25:49 Listen, I-- listen, Brad and Lexi,
25:51 you are two of millions, along with me,
25:54 who are true crime fans because it's sort of a new thing.
25:58 In the last five years, it's just exploded.
26:01 The proliferation of true crime followers
26:05 is something that I never expected to see.
26:07 But maybe had I thought about the advent of what
26:09 the internet does for true crime sleuths,
26:13 I might have been able to foresee this.
26:14 I think a lot of people, like the three of us,
26:17 we can get off our daily jobs and then go home.
26:20 And then we could just plink through and join
26:23 what amounts to almost like a book club,
26:25 but an interactive book club where we can actually
26:27 help to try to solve crimes.
26:29 If you think about the budgets for homicide detectives
26:32 or for the FBI, they're not that big.
26:34 And so having a couple hundred thousand sets of eyeballs,
26:36 going over videos frame by frame,
26:40 or going over social media posts of people
26:42 who might be involved moment by moment,
26:45 suddenly you got a lot more help to do the investigation.
26:48 And that does also come with a downside
26:51 because a lot of these true crime sleuths
26:53 also tend to, on occasion, point fingers at innocent people,
26:56 which is never a good thing.
26:58 So there's a plus and a minus, but it does lend
27:01 sort of a reason as to why there's so much fascination.
27:04 - Yeah, Ashley, you make some great points there.
27:07 And in this premiere episode,
27:08 you guys focus on the Delphi murders.
27:11 Am I saying that right?
27:14 - Yeah, the Delphi, Indiana case.
27:15 And this one for true crime fans is just sort of this
27:19 perplexing, mystifying case of two young girls
27:23 who went for a hike.
27:25 These 13 and 14 years old, they just went out for a walk
27:28 in their small community of Delphi,
27:30 and they never made it back.
27:31 And their bodies were found on the hiking trail the next day
27:34 and that was seven years ago.
27:36 So for true crime fans who are watching right now,
27:38 to put it in perspective, Abby Williams would now be 20
27:42 and Libby German would be 21, which is shocking
27:46 'cause you see these little charred faces of these girls
27:48 and you realize how long it's taken for justice
27:52 to hopefully be served because there's a suspect in jail
27:56 awaiting trial, but we don't have him
27:58 brought to justice yet.
27:59 We don't have final justice on that case.
28:01 And when you watch this Crime Nation deep dive,
28:05 this two hour piece with new interviews,
28:07 exclusive information, it might actually change
28:10 your opinion as to whether we got the right guy.
28:12 - Wow, actually I just have to say really quickly,
28:13 that just gave me chills just hearing about this
28:15 and everything you said before about this potentially
28:18 helping these people be brought to justice
28:22 and bring these families justice.
28:23 Oh man, that gives me chills just thinking about it,
28:25 especially as a mom.
28:26 - Yeah, and what I love is that you guys are gonna have
28:28 new reporting with these cases.
28:30 So it's something, even though they happened before,
28:32 you guys are bringing new things to light with it.
28:35 - We are because oftentimes, I do this hour long program
28:39 every night live on News Nation at 10 Eastern
28:42 and it's a deep dive into crime,
28:44 but it's usually the crime stories of the day.
28:47 And as the headlines are basically emerging,
28:50 we will report on those and get exclusive interviews
28:53 on those, but they come fast and furious.
28:55 And so with the advent of a little bit of time,
28:58 you can look back on these massive stories
29:00 like Gabby Petito and like Murdoch and like Drew Peterson,
29:05 and you can fill in a lot of blanks
29:07 because oftentimes after the glaring camera lights
29:10 have gone away, suddenly people will come out
29:14 of the woodwork and start talking.
29:15 And that's what we're getting on Crime Nation
29:16 with the two hour deep dives on Tuesday nights.
29:19 We're getting the deep dives and the interviews
29:21 that didn't happen before,
29:22 the details that didn't come out before.
29:24 And that's why it's such a joy to be able to stop down
29:27 from the News Nation headlines
29:29 and do the Crime Nation deep dive.
29:30 - Wow, yeah, this is so interesting.
29:33 What a fascinating topic and a really, really helpful
29:37 and informative thing to have out there.
29:39 Ashley, I just love what you guys are doing.
29:40 This is a, it's very entertaining
29:42 and very, very important as well.
29:44 - And Ashley, we're looking forward to seeing it
29:46 here on the CW7.
29:47 Tonight is the premiere
29:48 and we appreciate you joining us this morning.
29:50 - Absolutely.
29:51 Thank you so much for having me, you guys.
29:54 It's great to talk to you.
29:55 Definitely, yeah.
29:56 Well, we'll definitely be watching
29:57 and thank you Ashley for joining us.
29:58 That was great.
29:59 And yeah, don't miss Crime Nation right here
30:02 on the CW7 guys.
30:03 - Yeah, coming up, see how you can rock the best hats
30:06 for spring when the mix returns.
30:08 (upbeat music)
30:12 Spring is here and that means you must look stylish
30:35 for all the events happening around the Valley.
30:37 And here to help us is the team from Straw and Wool,
30:40 a local black owned business, Henry and Ali.
30:42 And I'll tell you right now,
30:43 you guys can make anybody look amazing in a hat.
30:48 Seriously, am I right?
30:49 - I would say, I'll say you already look amazing
30:51 in a hat, just accentuation.
30:52 - But the thing I love about you guys is that
30:55 you guys literally have people come in
30:57 and you look at them and go, that hat's not for you.
30:59 That's not the right one, but this one could be.
31:01 And then you elevate the game too, which I love.
31:04 - Yes.
31:05 - It's a lot of fun, you know,
31:06 and usually it happens organically, right?
31:09 And we're just there to be a sounding board
31:11 and to, you know, to give feedback.
31:13 But we like to say the hat picks the person.
31:15 - Yeah.
31:16 And then you have the different styles.
31:17 How many different styles now do you guys have?
31:18 'Cause when I first went down to your place,
31:20 I think there was only 10 hats.
31:21 No, I'm just kidding.
31:22 (laughing)
31:23 - We started small.
31:24 - Yeah.
31:25 So what do you think?
31:26 - If I were to guess, probably about 200.
31:30 Just on our shelves alone, not to include what we have
31:32 that we haven't released yet.
31:33 So probably close to 200.
31:35 - And when you talk about releasing,
31:36 it's these type of hats right here I have to show.
31:39 And I'm gonna pick this one up
31:40 and make sure I don't mess it up
31:41 'cause it's a very expensive hat.
31:43 But this is what we talk about.
31:44 You guys have someone who accessorizes,
31:45 or you guys help design some of these hats up, don't you?
31:48 - Yep.
31:48 - Yeah, yeah.
31:49 We actually commission artists to make these for us.
31:51 This is our one oak collection, which means one of a kind.
31:53 And in most cases, we just allow them to do their thing,
31:56 unless we're going for a specific thing.
31:58 But yeah, those artists are really creative.
32:00 - All right, let's talk about hats
32:01 and let's talk about styling the hats
32:03 and what you need to wear
32:05 for the different occasions going on.
32:06 So I noticed the smaller hats down the small brim.
32:09 What is that one called?
32:10 - So this is a Panama hat.
32:11 I mean, most of them are fedoras,
32:13 but you got different styles.
32:14 You got wide brim, you got short brim.
32:17 So this is a shorter brim Panama straw fedora.
32:20 - Okay, and that's mostly for the guys
32:22 that kinda wanna have that Cuban kinda look, in a way?
32:25 - You could say that.
32:26 Yeah, it's more casual, as you can see.
32:29 But it's a really fine weave, a really high quality straw.
32:33 So it's a great everyday styles hat,
32:35 but you can also dress it up.
32:36 - Yeah, all right, and then down here, this one right here.
32:38 This is the one I kinda like see most guys are wearing out
32:41 to like the Kentucky Derby
32:43 and the different things like that.
32:45 - Yeah, that one is called our Treme.
32:47 It's one of our more popular hats for the spring and summer
32:49 because it has the vented crown, the nice clean flat brim.
32:54 And it's something that you can wear with everything.
32:55 It dresses up well, it dresses down as well as well.
32:58 - And what I've been noticing too
32:59 is that the brims have been getting a little bit bigger
33:01 and a little bit more stylish in a way.
33:03 Why is that?
33:04 - I think that's just the style.
33:07 People like the attention, people like the look,
33:10 but there's also function to it as well,
33:12 getting the sun off of you.
33:14 So we call it big brim energy.
33:16 - Yeah, well, we have to talk about, again,
33:18 you guys blew up when you guys got to do
33:21 a very important commercial that came about
33:23 and that was finding small businesses to highlight.
33:26 And so how was that?
33:28 - It was amazing, it was amazing.
33:29 We got selected by ESPN to have a commercial filmed
33:34 and ran during the NBA finals last year.
33:36 And it ran every night during the finals.
33:39 We had no idea, we thought it was gonna be a one-time thing,
33:41 we missed it, but we look up and we've got a bunch of people
33:44 hitting us up again.
33:45 So that was amazing.
33:46 That gave us a great look nationwide
33:48 to the point where we're expanding at this point.
33:50 - To the point where literally I think every artist
33:54 that comes into Phoenix comes to you guys' shop.
33:58 I mean, we've seen a lot of comedians to performers,
34:01 R&B artists, everything, come and find you
34:04 because you guys have the styles there to help out
34:06 to highlight their stage presence, don't you?
34:09 - Yeah, we try, you know, and it's a fun thing
34:11 because who doesn't like hats, right?
34:14 And it's great, it's one of the few things
34:16 where you gotta come in, you gotta try it on.
34:19 It's fun to try different looks, different styles,
34:21 and like you said, get feedback, add accessories,
34:24 feathers, and things like that to it.
34:26 So yeah, it's a great time.
34:27 - I like it.
34:27 Okay, do you have one that I should try
34:28 and which one do you think, what do you feel for me today?
34:31 - Well, which one don't you have already?
34:32 (laughing)
34:33 - I'll start there.
34:34 - All right, all right.
34:35 - Actually, my strong hat got destroyed,
34:37 but no, what do you think I need,
34:38 which one do you think was gonna work for me?
34:40 - So I would say this is a good one right here,
34:42 and it's actually a sneak peek on one
34:43 that we're working on for the summer,
34:45 so it's not out yet.
34:46 - Oh, it's not?
34:47 - So it might be a little big,
34:48 but I think that'll be a good look for you right there.
34:50 - Ooh, actually, is that too big?
34:52 That's the thing, is that supposed to be fitting that way
34:54 or how's it supposed to fit?
34:55 - That was probably a little too big for your head,
34:56 but you make it look good.
34:58 - So good, that means I don't have a big head.
34:59 - Not at all.
35:00 (laughing)
35:02 - But I can pull off this one, 'cause this is nice.
35:04 Is that what you, you want it snug on there,
35:05 or do you want it loose on there?
35:07 - I like to tell people you want it loose enough
35:09 so that a gust of wind can't take it off,
35:11 but not so tight to where you get a headache
35:13 after a half hour.
35:14 - There it is, I like it.
35:15 Let 'em know where Strongwool is located.
35:18 - Yep, we're downtown on Roosevelt Road.
35:21 Our address is 610 East Roosevelt, suite 144,
35:24 right across the streets of Roosevelt and 7th Street.
35:26 Can't miss us.
35:27 - There you go.
35:28 - Or online at strongwool.com.
35:30 - And you gotta go get one of their boxes,
35:31 take care of your hats, and again,
35:33 if you need hats taken care of, these guys got you.
35:35 So, all right, coming up, we're telling you, of course,
35:38 how you can catch the college basketball action
35:41 right here on the CW7.
35:43 (upbeat music)
35:50 (upbeat music)
35:52 All right, guys, welcome on back to the Arizona Daily Mix.

36:15 in the house while cheering on your fave teams.
36:18 Tune in this weekend to watch Virginia Tech
36:20 take on Pittsburgh starting at 3.30.
36:22 Don't miss the primetime matchup
36:24 between Florida State at Clemson.
36:26 The courtside set, it's courtside Saturday,
36:29 and it all starts at 3.30.
36:31 That's right here on the CW7 Arizona.
36:35 All right, stick around, guys.
36:37 We got more of the show coming up after this.
36:38 (upbeat music)
36:41 (upbeat music)
36:47 (upbeat music)
36:50 We've all have been to the circus,
36:57 and as a little kid, wanted to fly through the air,
37:01 and guess what?
37:01 You get to do it right here at Trapezius
37:03 with Marco and team, which is really cool.
37:06 Marco, how are you?
37:07 - I'm good, I'm good.
37:08 - So this is a cool place that you've come up with.
37:11 From your experience, when you were young,
37:14 going down to Club Med to visit your brother,
37:16 and then all of a sudden, it turned into this.
37:18 - Turned into this, yeah.
37:19 Actually, we and my brother went to Club Med as kids,
37:23 you know, seven, eight, nine, 10 years old, whatever.
37:25 And then in early 20s, he started working at Club Med.
37:29 I went to visit him, spent a week with him.
37:31 He was already doing this.
37:33 I started flying on the trapeze.
37:35 Couple months later, they had openings.
37:37 I applied, I got a job.
37:39 - And what's great about this is that anybody can fly.
37:42 - Anybody can fly on the trapeze.
37:44 You just literally just have to be willing
37:46 to give it a shot, that's it.
37:47 All it takes.
37:48 - And eventually, you have younger kids,
37:50 and you start to move up a little bit,
37:51 'cause we're watching some of your instructors here
37:53 who started with the harness on and now moved into,
37:57 as we say, flying without the harness or free flying.
38:00 - Yeah, flying without safety lines.
38:02 - Yeah.
38:03 - So yeah, we start kids at age four and up.
38:07 At that age, they can take direction.
38:09 Their hands are big enough to hold onto the bar.
38:11 So, I mean, why not?
38:13 I mean, my niece did it when she was like two.
38:15 So, four and up, any age adult, you're gonna do it today.
38:19 - I am?
38:20 Oh, okay.
38:20 - And our oldest flyer today was 86 years old.
38:23 - Oh my gosh.
38:24 - And he used to stroll by once a day
38:26 and ask if he could go up.
38:28 He'd take his one swing, and then he'd go home,
38:31 and he'd come back the next day.
38:32 - And that's what's so great about this,
38:34 is that it's not just a one-time thing.
38:36 You actually have people, like you said,
38:37 just continue doing it.
38:38 Great exercise, great way to, of course,
38:41 just kind of like feel free.
38:43 - Yeah, absolutely.
38:45 I mean, like you said, everyone dreams of flying
38:48 or flying through the air.
38:49 This gives you the opportunity to do it
38:51 in a controlled, safe environment, too, right?
38:53 We don't just send you up there and say, "Go."
38:55 - How do you fly on the trapeze here?
38:57 - Sign up, for starters.
39:00 Sign up, okay.
39:01 After that, show up.
39:02 After that, we'll have a warmup.
39:06 We'll have a little warmup and a stretch.
39:08 We'll give you a demonstration, and we'll get right to it.
39:11 - I like it.
39:11 - That's how we like to do it.
39:12 - Marco, let's go fly.
39:13 - You wanna do it?
39:14 Let's do it.
39:15 - Out us, but we do warmup and stretch before class.
39:18 - Oh, my.
39:19 Oh, we're doing this today.
39:20 (upbeat music)
39:23 - Check.
39:34 Can you grab your knee and pull it into your nose?
39:37 That's pretty good.
39:37 Get your legs between your arms
39:40 so that you can get your legs on the bar.
39:42 (upbeat music)
39:44 - Can I just?
39:53 - Yeah, we can just swing.
39:54 Don't let go when you--
39:55 - Do I get chocked or something?
39:57 - No, you're good.
39:57 The bar's chocked, okay?
39:58 - Okay.
40:00 - We're not even gonna do anything.
40:01 We're just gonna get used to standing.
40:02 That arm is almost straight.
40:03 Keep going.
40:04 There, okay?
40:05 Push your hips out.
40:07 There you go.
40:08 Okay, relax.
40:10 So, see, you're not going.
40:12 You can do it.
40:12 Bring it a little higher.
40:13 There you go, good.
40:14 Put your other hand on the bar for me.
40:16 You got it.
40:19 And here, okay?
40:21 You got it, you got it.
40:24 - One finger, your one finger.
40:25 - There you go.
40:26 Good, see, you're not--
40:27 (yells)
40:27 You got it.
40:28 Put your hand on the bar.
40:29 There you go.
40:30 Okay, no, you're not.
40:32 You're not.
40:33 Are your thumbs around the bar?
40:35 Okay, bend your legs.
40:36 Bend your legs.
40:37 Bend your legs more.
40:38 Take a little hop.
40:39 Take a little hop.
40:39 - All right, ready?
40:40 - Yeah, yeah.
40:41 - One, two, three.
40:42 (yells)
40:43 Jump, hop.
40:44 What do I do?
40:45 - Slide your feet forward.
40:45 - Okay.
40:46 - You're good.
40:47 You don't have to freak out.
40:48 I have you.
40:49 Slide your--
40:50 - Do I jump?
40:50 - I don't want you to jump.
40:51 I just want you to slide your feet forward.
40:53 Hold the bar.
40:54 You got it.
40:55 Bring those feet off the bar.
40:57 Off the board.
40:58 (dramatic music)
41:00 (yells)
41:02 - Okay.
41:30 So you just rolled down.
41:32 Just rolled down.
41:33 - Yeah.
41:34 - And actually, this is not a fake look.
41:36 I mean, I know we had to stop and get microphones,
41:38 but this is the same look you had when you rolled down.
41:40 - It was.
41:40 - So all you did was swing.
41:42 - Yeah.
41:43 - And still, if that's all you did,
41:46 do you feel accomplished?
41:47 - I do.
41:48 I do.
41:49 I just never realized how scared I was.
41:50 I locked up there,
41:51 but I love that you were there coaching me through,
41:53 got me down here.
41:54 So you gotta come give it a try.
41:56 I know I did that,
41:57 but I think I might be coming back
41:59 now that I'm getting over the fear a little bit.
42:00 And so we'll be right now.
42:01 - Hey, first time's the fear.
42:02 We always say first time's the fear.
42:03 - I like it.
42:04 Marco, tell me what you can find out more about, of course.
42:06 - So trapezius.net, dot net, not net.
42:10 - There it is.
42:10 - T-R-A-P-E-Z-I-U-S dot net.
42:13 - There you go.
42:13 Come fly the trapeze.
42:15 Like, not like I did, better.
