00:00 All right, this is exciting.
00:03 Yeah, you know Brad, I have a statistic here for you.
00:06 All right.
00:07 So 58% of women say that they enjoy true crime shows.
00:10 I happen to be part of that.
00:12 Ooh, I like that.
00:13 So am I.
00:14 Well, you are in luck because here on the CW7, the series premiere of Crime Nation
00:18 is tonight.
00:19 And I'm telling you people, you're going to watch this because you're going to not expect
00:22 some of these documentary crimes that they're having.
00:25 Here with us is the Crime Nation contributor, Ashley Banfield.
00:29 Good morning, Ashley.
00:30 How are you?
00:33 I'm great, but I'm going to tell you right now, I would pay thousands of dollars to go
00:37 to a hockey game outside in Arizona.
00:40 I'm just going to put that out there.
00:43 It would turn to you.
00:44 Yeah, I didn't know that it would actually work out.
00:46 It would be a swim meet, actually.
00:47 It would be a swim meet.
00:48 Yeah, you don't want to see, I don't think you want to see what it looks like when you
00:55 drop the puck at a swim meet.
00:59 That's not good.
01:00 True.
01:01 So, Ashley, I'm very excited because I am a crime story docuseries person.
01:05 I literally, you know, every night I could find one.
01:08 I'm so happy that we have one here on the CW7.
01:10 So let's talk about Crime Nation and what this is all about.
01:14 Listen, I, listen, Brad and Lexi, you are two of millions, along with me, who are true
01:22 crime fans because it's sort of a new thing.
01:25 In the last five years, it's just exploded.
01:28 The proliferation of true crime followers is something that I never expected to see.
01:34 But maybe had I thought about the advent of what the Internet does for true crime sleuths,
01:39 I might have been able to foresee this.
01:41 I think a lot of people, like the three of us, we can, you know, get off our daily jobs
01:46 and then go home and then we could just plink through and join what amounts to almost like
01:51 a book club, but an interactive book club where we can actually help to try to solve
01:55 crimes.
01:56 And think about the budgets for homicide detectors or for the FBI.
01:59 They're not that big.
02:01 And so having a couple hundred thousand sets of eyeballs going over videos frame by frame
02:06 or going over social media posts of people who might be involved moment by moment, suddenly
02:12 you got a lot more help to do the investigation.
02:15 And that does also come with a downside because a lot of these true crime sleuths also tend
02:20 to, on occasion, point fingers at innocent people, which is never a good thing.
02:25 So there's a plus and a minus, but it does lend sort of a reason as to why there's so
02:30 much fascination.
02:31 Yeah, Ashley, you make some great points there.
02:34 And in this premiere episode, you guys focus on the Delphi murders.
02:38 Am I saying that right?
02:40 Yeah, the Delphi, Indiana case.
02:42 And this one for true crime fans is just sort of this perplexing, mystifying case of two
02:49 young girls who went for a hike.
02:51 These 13 and 14 years old, they just went out for a walk.
02:55 In their small community of Delphi, and they never made it back.
02:58 And their bodies were found on the hiking trail the next day.
03:01 And that was seven years ago.
03:03 So for true crime fans who are watching right now, to put it in perspective, Abby Williams
03:07 would now be 20 and Libby German would be 21, which is shocking because you see these
03:13 little cherub faces of these girls and you realize how long it's taken for justice to
03:20 hopefully be served because there's a suspect in jail awaiting trial, but we don't have
03:25 him brought to justice yet.
03:26 We don't have final justice on that case.
03:28 And when you watch this Crime Nation deep dive, this two hour piece with new interviews,
03:34 exclusive information, you might actually change your opinion as to whether we got the
03:38 right guy.
03:39 Wow.
03:40 I just have to say really quickly, that just gave me chills just hearing about this and
03:42 everything you said before about this potentially helping these people be brought to justice
03:48 and bring these families justice.
03:50 Oh man, that gives me chills just thinking about it, especially as a mom.
03:53 Yeah.
03:54 And what I love is that you guys are going to have new reporting with these cases.
03:57 So it's something, even though they happened before, you guys are bringing new things to
04:00 light with it.
04:03 We are because oftentimes I do this hour long program every night live on News Nation at
04:08 10 Eastern and it's a deep dive into crime, but it's usually the crime stories of the
04:13 day.
04:14 And as the headlines are basically emerging, we will report on those and get exclusive
04:19 interviews on those, but they come fast and furious.
04:22 And so with the advent of a little bit of time, you can look back on these massive stories
04:26 like Gabby Petito and like Murdoch and like Drew Peterson, and you can fill in a lot of
04:33 blanks because oftentimes after the glaring camera lights have gone away, suddenly people
04:40 will come out of the woodwork and start talking.
04:42 And that's what we're getting on Crime Nation with the two hour deep dives on Tuesday nights.
04:46 We're getting the deep dives and the interviews that didn't happen before, the details that
04:50 didn't come out before.
04:51 And that's why it's such a joy to be able to stop down from the News Nation headlines
04:55 and do the Crime Nation deep dive.
04:58 Wow.
04:59 Yeah, this is so interesting.
05:00 What a fascinating topic and a really, really helpful, informative thing to have out there.
05:06 Ashley, I just love what you guys are doing.
05:08 It's very entertaining and very, very important as well.
05:11 And Ashley, we're looking forward to seeing it here on The CW7.
05:14 Tonight is the premiere and we appreciate you joining us this morning.
05:18 Absolutely.
05:19 Thank you so much for having me, you guys.
05:20 It's great to talk to you.
05:21 Definitely.
05:22 Yeah, we'll definitely be watching and thank you Ashley for joining us.
05:25 That was great.
05:26 And yeah, don't miss Crime Nation right here on The CW7, guys.
