00:00 Was there a last minute WWE creative change on Raw? The Vince McMahon Netflix documentary
00:05 may be permanently shelved. And my review of Monday Night Raw. I'm Luke Owen and this
00:11 is the WrestleTalk News.
00:18 Before we get into that full review of Raw though, let's talk about the finish of Raw.
00:23 Jey Uso unsuccessfully challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship due
00:27 to interference and distractions from Jimmy Uso, presumably setting up their WrestleMania
00:32 program. Which is just one of the many things I got right on our three count Elimination
00:37 Chamber predictions episode.
00:39 Funny backstage skit.
00:41 Costs Jey match.
00:42 Oh, what, in the chamber?
00:44 No, on Raw.
00:45 Oh, you got him in there.
00:47 So it's out Raw, facing Gunther, Jimmy costs him the match. That's what sets up their
00:51 Mania match.
00:52 That's right, you can all tell me how smart I am in the comments down below. Just don't
00:55 look at all the things I got wrong, just the bits I got right.
00:58 But as it turns out, there's a chance I could have also been wrong about that, as
01:03 according to WrestleVotes on Twitter, "Sources state there were multiple people within the
01:08 company under the impression Jey Uso was winning the IC title tonight on Raw. I'm told that
01:14 as of later 6pm this was the direction on various show rundowns within the creative
01:21 and digital department."
01:23 Considering that Raw airs at 8pm Eastern, if this report is correct, then just two hours
01:28 before the show went on the air, Jey Uso was scheduled to dethrone Gunther for the belt
01:33 - which would have added a lot more spice to the reported Mania match of Jimmy vs. Jey,
01:38 but would also seemingly go against the long term plan for Gunther and his record breaking
01:43 reign.
01:44 Which makes me think this story was put out by design.
01:48 And I also think as we approach Mania season, there will be more stories like this. Purposeful
01:54 misinformation put out by WWE sources to not only discredit wrestling media, but also spread
02:00 seeds of doubt about matches, finishes and creative plans.
02:04 Perhaps that's why that Jade Cargill story was put out last week, to throw fans off the
02:08 scent for the Raquel Rodriguez return.
02:11 What do you think of my theory, or do you think that there was serious consideration
02:15 for Jey to win the belt? Let me know in the comments down below, while you're also telling
02:19 me how smart I am.
02:21 But now unfortunately we must transition into the more serious news surrounding Vince McMahon,
02:25 and as always, these stories come with trigger warnings for sexual assault and abuse.
02:30 Since Janelle Grant's lawsuit was filed against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis and
02:34 WWE, a much harsher spotlight has been thrown onto the company, with more victims coming
02:39 forward with their stories and allegations.
02:41 And more details being uncovered surrounding Ashley Mazzaro during her time in WWE.
02:47 All of this extra scrutiny on the company has led to Chicago-based law firm Pintus & Mullins
02:53 launching the website WWESettlements.com.
02:56 According to the site, anyone who was sexually assaulted, made to feel uncomfortable, or
03:00 witnessed sexual abuse by Vince McMahon or anyone from WWE or UFC could be entitled to
03:07 significant compensation.
03:09 The pressure seems to be mounting against WWE, so we can only wait and see where this
03:14 takes us in the future.
03:15 In other Vince McMahon related news, before the Janelle Grant lawsuit was filed, there
03:19 was the imminent release of a Vince McMahon documentary on Netflix.
03:23 This was completely separate to WWE's new deal to broadcast Monday Night Raw on the
03:27 platform as this documentary had been in the works for a long time before the deal was
03:32 finalised.
03:33 But now the status of that documentary is in question.
03:37 As Dave Meltzer speculated on Wrestling Observer Radio, that it may never see the light of
03:41 day and might just be quietly and permanently shelved.
03:46 It reportedly was finished and close to release prior to Grant's lawsuit.
03:51 This seems to be the latest chapter in the fall of Vince McMahon, and Oli did a video
03:55 this past weekend looking at the fall of the entire McMahon family.
03:58 Here's a clip.
03:59 Years before properly getting into the wrestling business, Vince had married his childhood
04:03 sweetheart Linda McMahon in 1966, where they had financially turbulent beginnings, filing
04:10 for bankruptcy in 1976, mostly because of 5 years of unpaid taxes and $1 million worth
04:17 of debt Vince had from promoting evil Knievel botching trying to jump Snake River Canyon.
04:24 But now it's time for my review of Monday Night Raw - aka Hot Damn Hot Crowd edition
04:44 of Monday Night Raw - in about 5 minutes.
04:47 And this hot crowd were treated to a hot opener, as Cody Rhodes took on Drew McIntyre in a
04:52 fantastic match with proper, PPV quality feel.
04:56 It even got a video promo to hype it up!
04:58 Both men worked their asses off and the crowd responded in kind.
05:02 And it looked like Cody had the match won with a crossroads, but there was a distraction
05:06 from Jimmy Uso and a spike from Solo Sakoa to allow Drew McIntyre to hit the Claymore
05:12 for the win.
05:13 Now normally I'd have an issue with pinning someone ahead of a big world title match,
05:17 particularly when you are someone who has been protected so much like Cody Rhodes.
05:22 This is his first pinfall loss since Roman at Mania last year.
05:26 But that's also the point, because this finish was great for three very good reasons.
05:33 A) it builds the Bloodline feud and adds some heat to Cody's Mania 40 match with Reigns,
05:37 but more crucially B) it's the same finish as their Mania 39 match.
05:42 Cody had the match won with a crossroads, but Solo gave him the spike and his opponent
05:46 hit their finish for the win.
05:49 It shows that no matter how much Cody has worked to get back to the main event of WrestleMania,
05:54 no matter how much he hasn't been pinned since Mania 39, it doesn't matter.
06:00 Because the Bloodline are still here and will do whatever they can to make sure he doesn't
06:06 finish his story.
06:07 Seth Rollins was right, Cody needs a better plan than the one he currently doesn't have.
06:14 But perhaps best of all, 3) what has been the motivation for Drew's heel turn?
06:20 Because Solo Sakoa and the Bloodline cost him the world title at Clash at the Castle.
06:26 He brings this up a lot, it's his whole deal.
06:29 But what happened when Solo and the Bloodline interfered in his match?
06:33 He took advantage of it.
06:35 He's a hypocrite, but one who feels that he's justified in his actions.
06:39 It's a great bit of character growth for Mr. McIntyre.
06:43 So yeah, I'm not a fan of big time challenges for big time titles losing just before big
06:49 time shows, I wouldn't have pinned Drew either for the record.
06:52 But if you are going to do it, make sure you have three very good reasons to do it.
07:00 This was fantastic.
07:02 Andrade renamed himself to Andrade El Idolo in a series of promo videos that aired after
07:07 our opener, as we also got video promos for Jey vs. Gunther, The Chamber itself and Truth
07:11 in Judgment Day as well as replays of the finish of Drew and Cody with Pat McAfee drawing
07:16 over the screen.
07:17 Raw's pacing has gotten so much better as of late since the production changes, and
07:22 in all of this, Rollins approached Cody and gave him a little nod.
07:25 The last chance battle royal was, in fact, not won by Jade Cargill who wasn't in the
07:30 match at all, and was instead won by a returning Bachel Rodriguez.
07:34 Yes everyone, she is back and she has won.
07:36 This was a totally fine battle royal which served its purpose and gave us a fun Santino
07:40 spot at the end where it looked like Chelsea Green might get a surprise elimination on
07:44 Raquel after everyone thought she'd already been eliminated.
07:47 Personally, I'd have had Chelsea Green in the Chamber as I think there's a lot of
07:51 fun to be had in that.
07:52 But Raquel does make a lot of sense.
07:55 I mean, she's not going to win the thing, but she is a star and the show needs stars.
07:59 Nia Jax and Rhea Ripley had a sit down interview about their title match this weekend, and
08:03 WWE celebrated people from Netflix who…
08:07 I think were all dressed the same.
08:09 Some UFC lad challenged another UFC lad to a UFC thing.
08:12 I don't know, I was more excited for the bull riding fella.
08:15 Jackie Redman had a special interview with R-Truth about his time with Judgment Day which
08:18 had some decent comedy, but it was not enough to overcome the baddies who beat him, Miz
08:23 and DIY in an eight man tag.
08:26 Ciampa's hot tag was brilliant, but it was Priest printing Truth which was- hold on.
08:35 R-Truth has been an active member of the WWE roster since 2000.
08:40 Huh.
08:41 Well, that's an interesting stat.
08:45 If it were true, because it's only true if you ignore the five years he spent in TNA.
08:50 He was their world champion for a bit of that.
08:53 He didn't even make it a full year in WWE, first debuted in 2000 in November, you know
08:58 this, and then you released him the following summer.
09:01 How could you ignore TNA like this?
09:04 How dare you WWE?
09:07 How dare you disrespect the good name of the three live crew?
09:12 All that time he won the tag titles with Pacman Jones who wasn't allowed to do any actual
09:16 wrestling?
09:17 Shame, shame, shame.
09:19 I will be writing to my local MP about this.
09:22 Anywho, Sami Zayn talked about his recent losses and wanting to find his path to Mania.
09:26 He's got a rematch with Shinsuke Nakamura next week who also cut a promo, and Becky
09:29 Lynch came out for a promo to put over this weekend's Chamber.
09:32 Look, we all know how this one goes.
09:35 Liv came out, Bachel came back out, Naomi came out, Tiffany came out and Bianca Belair
09:41 came out so they could all stand in a row.
09:44 This was stilted, formulaic and counterproductive.
09:47 Raw's production and creative is so much better than this.
09:51 Do better than this.
09:52 Nia came out and killed them all, which was a cool visual to end this segment as it adds
09:56 a level of 'what if' to her match with Rhea Ripley.
09:59 Chad Gable beat Ivar to build some momentum, possibly putting him in line for that Gunther
10:03 Icy Title Mania program, and New Day announced next week that they'll be facing Imperium
10:07 in a street fight.
10:08 And the main event saw Gunther beat Jey Uso after Jimmy caused a distraction by ringing
10:13 the Timekeeper's bell.
10:14 It was a good finish as it put over the fact that Jimmy cost Jey his World title match
10:18 against Roman, and now has cost him his Icy match here.
10:22 They had a very good match too, and Jey's final flurry of spears was really great.
10:26 It capped off a tremendous episode of Monday Night Raw.
10:29 The wrestling was really good, the promos - for the most part - were good, and it did
10:33 a great job of building both Chamber and Mania.
10:36 This week's show is 5 out of 5.
10:39 Now go and check out that Fall of the McMahons video that we teased earlier.
