00:00 The group of workers hastened the legislation of the 100 pesos legislated minimum wage hike after the Senate passed the bill.

00:12 The 100 pesos legislated minimum wage hike is not yet fully passed.

00:20 It has already played a big role in the Senate's third reading.

00:25 If the Senate passes the bill and the President passes it as a law,

00:30 the minimum wage in Metro Manila will reach more than 700 pesos for those working in the non-agricultural sector.

00:37 It will also increase in other regions and sectors.

00:40 It will be able to send more to the family.

00:44 To buy rice. For one day.

00:47 That's why the Federation of Free Workers is encouraging lawmakers to pass the bill.

00:54 Compared to the workers in other countries, we were the last in the Philippines, in the South.

01:01 That's why our workers are leaving us and going to Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

01:07 But the Labor Department and the group of employers are worried that all companies may not be able to add minimum wage.

01:14 We know that most of our businessmen are in the small categories.

01:20 The small ones are already struggling because there are many of them.

01:24 The micro-businesses will increase by 100, 15 to 20 percent.

01:31 What do you think will happen to the 90 percent? Half of the businesses were closed during the pandemic.

01:36 It's hard to say if it's 100 because it depends on the volume of people.

01:41 We are dependent on our work. What if it's not there?

01:44 According to the Department of Labor and Employment, some businesses may be able to buy exemptions for the wage hike.

01:50 These include businesses that are not more than 10 employees or businesses with a capital of 3 million pesos or less.

01:59 The owner of this restaurant says it is possible to increase the price to make up for the additional wage.

02:05 If that's the law, we will follow it. But on the other hand, we will be forced to pay the price.

02:16 According to an economist, the additional wage can result in the so-called wage price spiral.

02:22 If you increase the wage, that is going to be added production cost for firms.

02:28 They charge higher price, which will eventually be passed on to consumers.

02:33 So inflation. They are asking for a new round of wage increase.

02:39 It's like a chain reaction. That's why the dollar is always being looked at. I hope it will be balanced.
