Jess Evans tells the Newcastle Herald how Newcastle Olympic are shaping up for the NPLW NNSW season at Magic Park on February 19, 2024.
Transcript
00:00 Jess, how is Olympic shaping up this year?
00:02 I think we're shaping up really well.
00:04 We've got some new additions to the squad, some new ones to come.
00:08 I think we are a lot fitter and quicker than we were last year,
00:13 so it's exciting to see.
00:15 Who's been a key pick-up?
00:17 I would definitely have to say Kira.
00:21 She's a girl that's come up from the Coast,
00:25 and she's just very fit, very quick, very athletic.
00:30 I think she can play a lot of positions on the field,
00:33 so a great pick-up.
00:35 Who should we watch out for and why?
00:38 I feel...
00:40 I think one to watch out for this season would probably be Evie Horgan.
00:50 She's a new addition to our team as well.
00:52 She usually plays a six, so a defensive midfielder,
00:57 and she's just very good on the ball, very good at spraying the ball,
01:01 which is probably something we missed a lot last season.
01:06 What will be Olympic strength this year?
01:09 I think our strength will just be our determination and our commitment
01:14 and our hunger to just win and prove that we don't have the same team
01:18 that we've had for years.
01:20 We've got some new additions, and we can just smash it out
01:23 regardless of who we do and don't have.
01:27 Other than Olympic, who will be the team to beat this year?
01:31 I think Maitland.
01:33 I think Maitland's always just that little step behind,
01:38 but I think with the additions they've picked up this year,
01:41 I think they're definitely going to be in the top two this year,
01:44 so one to beat for sure.
