00:03 - All right, over to your favorite, horse racing.
00:05 Let's get into it.
00:06 We've got an update here on Turf Paradise out of Phoenix,
00:10 a place where sports betting has been very popular.
00:13 What do you make of the future here
00:14 as far as getting online?
00:16 - Yeah, so in 2021, when Arizona sports betting
00:23 was kind of sorting itself out
00:26 and everybody was applying for licenses,
00:28 Turf Paradise did apply for an online license back then
00:33 and they were denied because of the way the law was written.
00:37 They were technically not a Arizona-based sports franchise.
00:42 Now, what this bill does is amends that language
00:47 to make it explicitly clear that Turf Paradise
00:52 would be eligible to apply so that should it choose to,
00:56 would be able to apply for an online sports betting license.
01:00 Now, I spoke to the bill sponsor earlier this week
01:05 and it's kind of moved from one committee to another
01:09 that has a bit more bandwidth
01:10 as they're kind of running up against
01:12 the legislative clock, if you will.
01:15 So this other committee has a little bit more bandwidth
01:17 to kind of take this up and move it forward.
01:21 But the bill sponsor did say that he's confident
01:23 that they have the votes to push this along.
01:27 He said that the bill is alive and well.
01:30 So, obviously it remains to be seen,
01:32 but potentially the opportunity for Turf Paradise,
01:36 the horse racing track there in Phoenix,
01:38 to secure itself an online license if they choose.
01:42 And as we know, there's been a fair bit of sort of maneuvering
01:46 with online licenses in Arizona
01:49 with operators coming in, coming out.
01:52 So we'll see how this bill projects here
01:56 over the next couple of weeks.
