This retro-inspired machine packs essential essentials for a skilled urban commuter.

The Asian market is full of weird and wonderful motorcycles that many people in the west have never seen before.

Yamaha FZ X is the retro model of the FZ passenger series in India. You may be familiar with the name FZ from the old days when bikes like the MT-07 and MT-09 were named that way. Before the explosion of its naked bike sibling, there was the FZ6 and Fazer. These days the FZ name survives, although in compact, single-cylinder form and exclusive to the Asian market.

As for the FZ X, it is most closely related to the XSR family of motorcycles due to its appearance. It features the signature round headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank and one-piece seat with ribbed pattern. In fact, at first glance it's easy to confuse it with its slightly more premium cousin, the XSR155. But below the surface the situation is completely different.

In terms of performance, the FZ Although its power may be reduced, its simple construction means it is a true workhorse, well-suited to India's less-than-ideal road conditions. The FZ X's underpinnings are equally simple; The non-adjustable suspension rolls on a steel frame and front and rear disc brakes. The bike weighs 139 kilograms (305.8 pounds) in the wet and has a fuel tank capacity of 10 liters.

When it comes to features, Yamaha has delivered what's needed for a skilled city commuter. It has basic safety features consisting of single-channel ABS, side stand kill switch, and traction control, along with a USB charging port to power your devices on the go.

For the 2024 model year, the retro-inspired commuter vehicle is available in two new color options of Chrome and Metallic Black. The chrome version stands out with its intense use of chrome on the fuel tank and headlight frame, as well as its gold-painted alloy wheels. The Metallic Black variant, meanwhile, is a much more subdued option, featuring an all-black finish from the tank to the minimalist bodywork and 17-inch alloy wheels. Other colors include Matte Copper, Matte Black, and Dark Matte Blue. The price of Yamaha FZ X in India starts from Rs 136,000 or approximately $1,634.
