00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:08 Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:14 I am Lexi Romano and we are so excited to be here with you today on this kind of gloomy, rainy day, but it's beautiful.
00:21 We're so happy that you're tuning in.
00:23 Today on the show, if you are planning a Valentine's Day gathering, entertaining expert Carol Mackey is here with some delicious food and tablescape ideas for the special holiday.
00:36 Look at how gorgeous that is.
00:38 I'm sorry, if I got invited over to a party and that's what it looked like, I would be like, "I don't even want to eat on those plates, it's so pretty."
00:44 And while the weather might be a little chilly right now, we are headed into spring and Rachel Harris, one of our faves, is here with some fun Arizona road trip ideas.
00:56 So we love when Rachel's here because she gives us the best tips and usually she brings us food.
01:01 So we love her. She's like our station mom. She's the best.
01:06 And I think she did sneak some goodies in. She snuck some goodies in today, so it's delicious as always.
01:13 Plus, if you are wondering where Brad is, Brad, Brad, where are you?
01:19 Well, let's check in and see how he's doing.
01:21 Hey, Brad.
01:23 Hey, good morning, Lexi. I am out here at the WM Phoenix Open.
01:28 It is 4 a.m. day.
01:30 I have to ask, Brad, I have to ask, does WM stand for wet and muddy?
01:36 You know what? Exactly right now it doesn't.
01:40 So if you are heading out here, you're going to want to make sure you pay attention to where they're parking you because they had to move some parking around.
01:46 We'll talk about that a little bit later on.
01:48 But it is the day where, again, you come out and get up close to the pros, the professionals, the amateurs, which are celebrities.
01:56 We got Larry Fitzgerald here, Emmitt Smith, Nick Saban just teed off.
02:00 So we're going to have some of our medical staff be here.
02:02 So you got to stick around.
02:03 And, of course, we'll tell you what's going on thanks to Element IV therapy in just a little while.
02:08 Hey, also, it's crazy pants day.
02:10 Boom. Got the pants on. That's part of it.
02:12 Those are some crazy pants.
02:14 But I like them because I spy a martini or two on those pants. Right?
02:19 Exactly. That's part of the open, you know, is the cocktails.
02:22 So there we go. 100 percent.
02:24 Well, I like that. Cheers, Brad.
02:26 We'll check in with you a little bit later to get some more inside scoop.
02:31 All right. That looks like a blast.
02:34 I mean, I'm a little jealous that he's out there, but also it's a little cold today.
02:37 I'm a little bit like, go ahead, Brad.
02:39 You take the chilly day, but we'll all catch up with him later.
02:43 But let's take a look at Flagstaff because this is so cool.
02:47 Oh, my gosh. It's 26 degrees.
02:49 It's snowing. It's gorgeous.
02:51 Look at this live shot.
02:52 Oh, my gosh. Is that not the most serene, idyllic, just beautiful shot?
02:59 I mean, it makes me want to go up there right now and just get under a cozy blanket
03:03 and be in a cabin and drinking some hot cocoa and just enjoying that beautiful snowy day.
03:09 That's gorgeous. Cheers to you guys up in Flagstaff.
03:11 That looks incredible.
03:12 But for those of us down here in the valley, still, we got a great giveaway going on for you right now,
03:17 which is the Desert Botanical Garden.
03:19 They're turning 85 years old this year, and we're offering you a chance to join the celebration.
03:25 You could win a friends and family membership to the Desert Botanical Garden
03:28 if you use today's code word, which is BLOSSOM, and go to aztv.com/win and enter.
03:36 Yes, it is that simple.
03:38 This is an exciting year to be a member of the Desert Botanical Garden.
03:41 So many special programs, exhibits.
03:44 Plus, the garden is about to burst into full bloom in the next couple of months.
03:49 And if you haven't been there when it's in full bloom, you have to go.
03:52 It's such a beautiful, just gorgeous desert landscape and just such an iconic area for us here in the valley.
03:59 So again, code word today, BLOSSOM, aztv.com/win, and you could be the lucky person going to the Desert Botanical Gardens.
04:09 All right, so let's get to some trending, because this is our favorite part of the show,
04:13 where we tell you some things that we found online, some cool, interesting tidbits that you can use
04:18 when you're talking to your friends.
04:20 You know, you can sound like you're in the know, you know what's going on, what's trending on the internet, on the webs.
04:25 All right, so this is brought to you by Gerber Injury Law. Thank you for sponsoring this.
04:29 We want to talk about AI, because AI, it's the new thing, I guess.
04:33 And people are using it in their dating profiles.
04:36 No, this is so weird.
04:38 A total of more than 6 million U.S. adults admitted to using AI in their dating profiles in 2023.
04:44 Okay, this is so weird.
04:46 Surprisingly, it's the most popular amongst the 61-plus age group, or boomers.
04:52 Men are slightly more likely than women to enlist the help of AI for dating.
04:55 Here are some of the things to look out for.
04:57 Okay, so here are the tips.
04:58 We're telling you, if you see this, this might be AI.
05:02 Overly polished or generic language.
05:05 Inconsistent information, such as contradictory details.
05:09 Perfectly edited photos.
05:12 Rapid responses, if you're texting this person, and they're immediately texting you back,
05:15 that might be AI.
05:16 And unusual conversation shifts.
05:18 That's how you know.
05:19 There you go, we've given you the scoop.
05:21 Watch out for that AI.
05:23 You don't want to be dating a robot.
05:24 It's weird.
05:25 Okay, we are less than a week away from the big game in Las Vegas.
05:30 And earlier this morning, I got another update of what's happening so far for the big game from Sasha Loftis.
05:36 Hey, Sasha, so tell us what's happening in terms of preparation around Vegas for Sunday.
05:43 Good morning, Lexi.
05:45 Quite a bit happening here in Las Vegas as we're just four days away, of course, from Super Bowl Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.
05:52 Behind me, the NFL Experience opening today at Mandalay Bay on the Strip, which is pretty exciting.
05:57 And it's kind of hard to tell behind me on this riser, but a lot of the preparation around the outside of the stadium for that experience on Sunday is happening as well.
06:06 A lot of other preparations for, of course, the teams for the halftime show.
06:10 All that kind of stuff is going on right now.
06:12 So we are just seeing more of those preparations continue as we get closer and closer to the big game.
06:18 And, you know, I'm sure that the quarterbacks, I mean, they're kind of like, you know, the big guy on the field.
06:23 I'm sure they have a lot of preparations going on.
06:25 Tell me a little bit about them and their storylines.
06:27 What's going through their heads right now?
06:29 Oh, yes.
06:30 The quarterbacks this year are the big storyline, right?
06:32 Last year, they're in Glendale.
06:34 It was the Kelsey brothers.
06:35 This year, it is the quarterbacks.
06:37 You got Patrick Mahomes.
06:38 He is well-versed in the Super Bowl world.
06:41 He has two rings already, made several appearances.
06:43 Then on the other hand, you got Brock Purdy, and he is known as Mr. Irrelevant, right?
06:48 He was the last pick in the 2022 draft, blew everyone away as the third-string turn starter.
06:53 So he is just a really great storyline as well.
06:55 And, you know, everyone on both teams was really talking about how both quarterbacks, the starting quarterbacks, which, of course, is their role, to be a team leader, right, to be that team captain, to lead everyone on the field and off the field,
07:07 which is really important for the morale of both teams as they get ready for the biggest game in sports.
07:12 Absolutely, yeah.
07:13 That's a huge deal for them, and I'm sure that their practice schedule right now is pretty intense.
07:18 What are they doing right now in terms of practicing?
07:21 So in terms of practice, what we're looking at is this is the second day that they are hitting the field.
07:25 Yesterday was their first day of practice.
07:27 So that practice and media availability will be pretty much the cycle until Friday,
07:32 and that's when they hunker down and they really shut everybody off and they, you know, prepare for that big game on Sunday.
07:39 Well, Sasha, everybody is excited, so I'm sure that it is buzzing over there in Vegas.
07:44 So we're all prepped.
07:45 Thank you for telling us a little bit about what's going on there in Vegas today, and we'll talk to you soon.
07:49 Thanks.
07:50 After the break, we're going on a road trip with Rach to an iconic location in Arizona.
08:01 [music]
08:03 When it comes to taking a trip, you may be thinking about Europe or a cruise,
08:19 but what you might forget is that Arizona has some amazing places to visit that are only a road trip away.
08:25 Rachel Harris is here to share one of those places today. Welcome, Rach. I'm so glad you're here.
08:31 Thank you. I love it when I get to put my Arizona shirt back on.
08:34 I love it.
08:35 Me too. I am back on the road hitting Arizona destinations, which I found that my blog readers love because it's affordable.
08:43 So today I'm taking you to Winslow, Arizona. Ever been there?
08:47 I haven't. No, I'm so excited to hear all about it.
08:49 Yeah, it's a big historic town. It's a little, I mean a little town that's very historic.
08:54 But we'll start off, I brought a couple of reasons why folks should check out Winslow.
09:00 I'm calling this Why Visit Winslow.
09:02 First of all, it's only a three-hour drive from Phoenix. Nice and easy.
09:06 Super easy.
09:07 Budget-friendly getaway, which is why I love the Arizona road trips because it's going to cost less than if you go out of state.
09:13 And it's also got that famous standing on the corner that we'll talk about that in just a bit.
09:19 I brought video, you know, the Eagles song.
09:21 Love it.
09:22 And also this gorgeous hotel, very historic. The La Posada Hotel is there.
09:27 Charming, historic railroad trackside hotel. We're going to talk about that.
09:31 The town and hotel is rich in Arizona railroad and Route 66 history.
09:37 And if you're a train buff, which my family loves trains, you got to know about this town.
09:42 Okay, this all sounds so cool. Not necessarily a train buff, but I do know that Eagles song.
09:47 So let's talk a little bit about it.
09:48 Let's dive in with that. So if we can roll the first video of my trip to Winslow.
09:54 And one thing I love about when you first get into Winslow is check out the billboard.
09:59 Just jump out of your car, take a picture because it lists all the places to see while you're there.
10:04 All right. The famous standing on the corner, that famous song.
10:07 Can you sing a little a little line?
10:09 So the standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona.
10:12 You know the song, right?
10:14 So that is a very popular street corner because of that song.
10:18 So people will go for the day, get their pictures.
10:21 You know, that was written by the Eagles, Glenn Fry and Jackson Brown.
10:25 So there's sculptures of the musicians.
10:28 And also there's another line in the song about the flatbed Ford truck.
10:33 There it is. You can get your photo op with that as well.
10:37 And Winslow is all about, like the sign says, taking it easy.
10:41 Right. Oh, that's so fun. I love this.
10:44 I would love to go hang out there. It's so cool.
10:47 OK, well, here's a cool surprise.
10:48 Go ahead and stay the night because there's an amazing hotel there called the La Posada Hotel.
10:53 OK. And if we can roll that video.
10:56 So this hotel is extra special because it was built in 19, opened in 1930.
11:03 It's one of the last great Fred Harvey Santa Fe Railway hotels.
11:08 And it was situated, it is situated between the Santa Fe Railroad and Route 66.
11:14 And now the railroad is the BNSF. But back in the day, it was that railroad.
11:19 This hotel was designed by Mary Jane Coulter.
11:22 She's one of the great Southwestern architects.
11:24 And she designed the hotel, the gardens, the furniture, everything back in 1929.
11:29 Quite a feat, especially for a woman.
11:32 And check it out all through the hotel.
11:34 There's little historic pieces and tidbits.
11:36 That's the Harvey girls.
11:38 And she made sure they had aprons that were bright and colorful for the Harvey houses
11:42 where folks would get off the train and go in to eat, take a break.
11:46 OK, my husband would have us there all day just reading those historical little tidbits.
11:52 Like, that is such a beautiful hotel.
11:54 But, yeah, I would get stuck there with him reading all of that historical stuff.
11:57 And I'd want to go walk around and explore.
11:59 But it's perfect for both history buffs and people who want to just enjoy the beauty.
12:02 And I love that because you learn about your state.
12:04 So let's do a little more footage at the La Posada Hotel because it's sort of an art gallery as well.
12:10 So check out the art.
12:12 The artist is actually one of the owners, Alan Affel and his wife, Tina Mion.
12:17 She's the artist.
12:18 They actually--oh, check that out--Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan's eyes.
12:22 I love that piece.
12:23 Her oil pastels are gorgeous.
12:25 But this couple actually saved the hotel.
12:28 It had closed in 1957 after 27 glory years.
12:32 And then it was taken over by the railway.
12:34 It was gutted.
12:35 Thank goodness for this couple in '87 they restored it, opened it back up to the public.
12:40 They were able to get their hands on some of the original furnishings.
12:44 Everything is handcrafted from ceiling to floor.
12:48 It is quite the property to walk through and check it out.
12:51 Lots of celebrities through the years stayed at the hotel.
12:55 And they've got the Wall of Fame there.
12:57 I see Bob Hope and Clark Gable.
13:00 So that is another really interesting tidbit about the La Posada.
13:04 How cool, Rach.
13:05 This sounds like an amazing adventure.
13:07 It is.
13:08 You've got to definitely check it out.
13:09 All right, do we have time for another one?
13:11 I don't know.
13:12 I think can we--no, we'll save it for you guys.
13:14 That's all right.
13:15 You've got to come back because Rach has so many more great tips about this awesome Arizona destination.
13:21 So we'll check back in with Rach a little bit later.
13:23 Yep, later on in the show we've got a little more wind flow in the Meteor Crater.
13:26 Okay, I'm going out singing that Eagles song.
13:28 After the break, we're getting ready for Valentine's Day with some fun and festive food when the mix returns.
13:34 Standing on the corner, please get my way.
13:37 Welcome back.
13:52 Valentine's Day is literally a week away.
13:55 And if you're trying to have a get-together with your gal pals or that someone special,
14:00 Carol Mackey is here with some tips on how to put together an amazing spread without breaking the bank.
14:06 That's the most important part, right?
14:07 That's right.
14:08 That's right.
14:09 So just a few small tips that make a big impact, really.
14:12 So starting with our cocktail, champagne, Prosecco.
14:16 And what I used here is edible glitter.
14:19 I don't know if you've seen that.
14:20 It's not just like food coloring.
14:23 It actually swirls in there.
14:25 It bubbles when you add it.
14:27 It's really so pretty.
14:29 It looks beautiful in the glass right there.
14:31 That is so cool.
14:32 I've never heard of edible glitter.
14:33 It's kind of all the rage now.
14:34 It's sort of new.
14:35 Yes.
14:36 Very cool.
14:37 Yeah.
14:38 And then our appetizer, I made puff pastry French onion hearts.
14:43 And these are so beautiful.
14:44 Look at how gorgeous that is.
14:45 Real simple.
14:46 The recipe is on my website.
14:48 But you take a sheet of puff pastry, layer Swiss cheese or Gruyere, caramelized onions,
14:55 and then you roll from the outside in, freeze it, cut it, and then kind of pinch the ends
14:59 to make a heart.
15:00 Perfect.
15:01 So easy.
15:02 And even I could do it.
15:03 Anybody can do it.
15:04 That's right.
15:05 And then also I want to mention the flowers.
15:06 So you know the flowers, to cut them and all that takes time.
15:10 So a little hint, I like to sometimes just pick up a potted plant.
15:14 So easy.
15:15 Put it on the table, no cutting, and it lasts so much longer as well.
15:18 That's a great point.
15:19 And you know what?
15:20 Yes.
15:21 If you're having a gathering with a bunch of your girlfriends or that someone special,
15:23 like we said, someone could take this home at the end of the night.
15:26 Exactly.
15:27 That's exactly right.
15:28 Yes.
15:29 And then of course I love crafts.
15:30 So my little table lantern, you know, you see in restaurants or cocktail bars, is actually
15:36 a wine glass.
15:37 A wine glass.
15:38 So easy.
15:39 With battery voltage.
15:40 So what I have here is my craft.
15:43 So I took gold paper, you have to have gold, and then any color you want, and you use a
15:48 glue stick to put that together so it doesn't show the glue, and then poke little holes.
15:53 Okay.
15:54 And then I use Velcro so it gets stored flat, but you can staple it together.
15:58 Wow, so smart.
15:59 And I'm not sure, I did take, you can't really see the beautiful effect of this, but there
16:02 you can because I took a picture at home.
16:05 Oh wow.
16:06 And it just adds so much and such a fun.
16:08 So much ambiance to the table.
16:09 Yes, and a fun, easy craft.
16:11 Super easy.
16:12 And then of course, our main entree again, very simple, and I'm serving it in the Le
16:17 Cruce L'Amour pot.
16:19 So cute, this pot.
16:21 So cute, and it is lobster mac and cheese.
16:26 Wow.
16:27 So you can use your favorite macaroni and cheese recipe, even buy, store bought if you
16:32 have a really good brand.
16:33 And then to elevate that, I added roasted red pepper hearts that I cut out with a little
16:38 cutter.
16:39 So cute.
16:40 And then I added a little lobster tail that I just cut up, which is very reasonable.
16:42 This time of year, specials for Valentine's Day, you always can get a reasonably priced
16:47 lobster tail.
16:48 Because that's kind of the romantic thing, right?
16:50 You do the surf and turf with the lobster.
16:52 Right.
16:53 Put it in the mac and cheese like this.
16:54 It just, like you said, elevates it.
16:55 Yes.
16:56 Makes it more romantic.
16:57 It's a great do ahead too because the Le Cruce is stove top to oven, so you can do it on
17:02 the stove top, put it in the oven and take it out and just garnish it with the hot hearts.
17:06 The one pan right there, and I will tell you guys, that smells amazing.
17:10 You get the mac and cheese and the lobster.
17:12 Oh my gosh, it smells delicious.
17:13 So good.
17:14 So good.
17:15 And then lastly, again, very simple, a store bought dessert to really make things easy
17:20 and quick.
17:21 So I bought a chocolate mousse, and then the way that I elevated this dessert was edible
17:26 roses.
17:27 So I just put one of those on top and sprinkled a little petal, and very easy and impressive.
17:33 Wow, it looks so beautiful.
17:35 Definitely impressive.
17:36 It looks like this is like a restaurant level quality of all of this stuff.
17:40 And like you were saying, this is budget friendly ideas.
17:42 These are things that we can do at home without breaking the bank.
17:45 And talk a little bit about what we have here because these are so gorgeous.
17:49 Oh sure, yeah.
17:50 Very elevated.
17:51 Well, this is actually from my collection.
17:52 I have so many plates.
17:54 My husband's here and he can vouch for this.
17:56 This is from actually anthropology.
18:00 It's a French artist that made all these plates.
18:02 So I have all different ones, but I love the Eiffel Tower, so I bought two of those.
18:06 It's so gorgeous.
18:07 And I'm actually doing a book, and this is in my book, these plates for a French anniversary
18:13 dinner because we were married on Bastille Day.
18:15 Oh, that's so cute.
18:16 Well, this is so beautiful, something you would love to sit down to for a Valentine's
18:20 Day dinner and let everybody know where they can find more information.
18:23 Right, all this information can be found on carolthatcooks.com.
18:26 Nice and easy, I love it.
18:28 And you guys, we gotta go because I gotta steal this and take it home.
18:31 It smells incredible.
18:32 All right, well, go check out all those amazing recipes and tips.
18:36 Coming up, find out what's happening at the WM Phoenix Open when we come back.
18:53 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
18:56 All right, welcome on back to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
19:05 Still to come, Streets of New York is giving us a taste of their incredible menu, and they
19:11 have a special deal that is going on this weekend, this weekend alone.
19:16 So we're excited to hear about that.
19:18 Looks amazing.
19:19 Wow, those pizzas, oh my gosh, fabulous.
19:22 Plus, Rachel has some more tips for you if you're planning to visit Winslow, Arizona
19:27 this year.
19:28 We sang the song earlier, and now it is just stuck in my head.
19:31 The Eagles know how to write a catchy tune, man.
19:33 So fun.
19:34 Oh, I love when she comes in and tells us all about some travel tips.
19:37 But for right now, let's check in with Brad and get an update on what's happening at the
19:42 WM Phoenix Open.
19:43 Hey, Brad, how's it going?
19:45 Hey, Lexi, how you doing?
19:47 Well, I'll tell you, it's doing good.
19:49 Dallas Rodriguez and Michael Phelps is here waiting for Larry Fitzgerald.
19:53 I'm doing the lookout right now for him and a couple other, of course, celebrities out
19:56 here, because that's what it is today.
19:58 And we want to go ahead and give you our update, and we want to thank Element IV Therapy for
20:02 sponsoring this update and tip of the day.
20:04 So today is the big Annex Pro-Am here at the T.P. Scottsdale Stadium, which is going to
20:10 be pretty cool.
20:11 And then at 3.30, it's the Whoop Shot of Glory at the 16th hole, and that's when you want
20:15 to come out and see.
20:16 That is where you have your pros and your amateurs trying to make a hole-in-one or at
20:21 least get it on the green without being booed in a competition.
20:25 Then 3.30 starts the course like Bird's Nest with entertainment with Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman,
20:30 and Mike performing.
20:32 So that's, of course, the activities for today.
20:34 And for right now, let's go ahead and hear from Element IV Therapy owner Jim Schaefer,
20:39 who has some tips on how to stay hydrated as you head out to the WM Phoenix Open.
20:45 Jim here with Element IV Therapy, your hydration tip of the day.
20:49 Be sure to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning.
20:52 It gets the rehydration process started and gets the body what it needs.
20:56 All right, we want to thank Element IV Therapy for sponsoring that tip and update.
21:08 Make sure you tune in tomorrow because we're going to be here live, 9 a.m. to 10, for our
21:12 big WM Phoenix Open show.
21:15 And so we're excited as we're looking around for more celebrities to come through here
21:19 in just a little bit.
21:20 But as we've been having a good time out here and looking around, you know the outfits are
21:24 important.
21:25 But also, too, what's really nice are the fans.
21:27 So let's walk down this way and see if we can talk to fans.
21:30 We're waiting for Larry and some of the other pros to get here.
21:32 Michael's in an interview right now.
21:34 He's going to try to get him.
21:35 But this is what it's about right here.
21:36 This is where the fans come in.
21:38 And we can go ahead and just--they're all lined up right here.
21:41 Look at them all trying to get autographs and talk with people and stuff.
21:45 Let's see if we can find some young fans here.
21:48 I had some young kids here looking for--so here we go.
21:52 Here go some guys.
21:53 Hi, guys.
21:54 How are you doing?
21:55 Good.
21:56 Who are you guys looking to get autographs from?
21:57 Adrian Belatre, Michael Phelps.
22:00 Everyone good.
22:01 All right, everyone good.
22:02 Mike is down there right now.
22:03 And so you saw him.
22:04 So are you trying to get him?
22:06 And are you betting on anybody to win today?
22:08 Who do you think is going to win this pro-am?
22:10 Let's go with Sheffler and Glenn Powell.
22:14 Okay, all right.
22:15 I can place that better over the DraftKings betting area.
22:17 I'll do that for you.
22:18 So, all right.
22:19 And are you warm?
22:20 I know it was raining out here earlier.
22:21 You feeling good?
22:22 Yeah, I'm pretty warm.
22:23 All right, there we go.
22:24 See, that's all right.
22:25 Hopefully you get those autographs.
22:26 That's what it's about out here.
22:27 It's the fans.
22:28 It's the people.
22:29 Down here is where the pros are practicing right now.
22:31 And we're waiting for Wynnum Clark, who just won the AT&T Pebble Beach
22:34 and the U.S. Open.
22:36 He's supposed to get here.
22:37 And as I mentioned, Larry is supposed to perform here, which is really neat.
22:40 But this is what it's all about right here.
22:42 Coming over to the driving range, talking to some of the pros, getting some things.
22:45 Mike is done.
22:46 Let me see if I can get Mike.
22:47 Come on, let's go.
22:48 Let's see if we can grab him.
22:49 Let me see if I can--let's see if we can work our magic and see if we can grab one interview with him or someone else.
22:57 So, you know what?
22:58 Actually, what I'm going to do is grab this guy right here.
23:00 Oh, Mike is going right there.
23:01 He's so close.
23:02 Oh, he is.
23:03 Let me see if I can get him.
23:04 Let me just see.
23:05 Watch this.
23:07 Let me see.
23:09 He's going to his driving range area.
23:11 We're trying.
23:12 I don't know.
23:13 You know, he just had a baby, and so we had him on.
23:17 So there they are.
23:18 They're talking to his team right now.
23:21 So we're going to try it.
23:22 See, I'm trying to look for someone else.
23:25 You hear them talking right now.
23:26 They're giving out the little cues and everything.
23:27 But this is what's great about today.
23:29 Come out, enjoy meeting the celebrities, the different fans that are out here and stuff.
23:34 So it's pretty good.
23:35 Oh, listen to this.
23:37 Here we go.
23:38 Hardy.
23:39 Hardy.
23:40 Hardy's out here, people.
23:41 So I want to make sure.
23:43 Let me make sure since I'm finding someone else.
23:46 So this is important right here.
23:48 Excuse me.
23:49 Hi.
23:50 Hi.
23:51 Live on the Arizona Daily Mix.
23:52 How are you doing, John?
23:53 Very good.
23:54 Thank you.
23:55 Listen, I just noticed right now, you and I are the only two right now out here with
23:57 the pants on.
23:58 Why is that?
23:59 It's Crazy Pants Day.
24:00 There you go.
24:01 There it is right there.
24:02 Oh, we got some more coming in.
24:03 Look at those pants right there.
24:04 Those are crazy.
24:05 Those are really good.
24:06 Those are sharp.
24:07 Oh, yeah.
24:08 Think about the Army Green.
24:09 That's really lame.
24:10 And that guy, that's dysfunctional.
24:11 Look at that.
24:12 He just looks like a regular guy out here.
24:13 Does someone?
24:14 Is this a joke?
24:15 How are you doing this morning?
24:16 Great.
24:17 How are you doing?
24:18 I'm doing good.
24:19 Tell me something good.
24:20 Well, you know what?
24:21 The weather's good.
24:22 We're going to have a good day, right?
24:23 Yeah, of course.
24:24 The pants are looking good.
24:25 I mean, look at this.
24:26 It's amazing.
24:27 It is.
24:28 Come on, look at that.
24:29 I know.
24:30 It's nice and warm.
24:31 Hey, I'm here with the guys.
24:32 It's nice and warm.
24:33 Hey, all right.
24:34 Listen, it is the WM Phoenix Open going on right now.
24:38 Again, tee times are going all day long, so come on out and enjoy yourself.
24:41 And remember, tomorrow morning, 9 a.m., we're here live.
24:44 Lexi, it's going to be a blast.
24:46 Weather's nice.
24:47 And that was great.
24:48 I mean, man, you got inches away from the one and only Michael Phelps.
24:54 You were so close.
24:57 But that's okay.
24:58 Maybe we'll get him tomorrow.
24:59 All right, guys.
25:00 Thank you so much to Scottsdale Pullean and COIN for sponsoring this.
25:22 Anytime we have questions about your options when it comes to investing in finance, we
25:26 talk to Eric from SBC.
25:27 Thanks for doing this.
25:28 Well, thanks for having me once again.
25:30 There is a term that more and more people are becoming familiar with, and it's the petrodollar
25:34 because of what China is doing in other countries.
25:37 Can you explain what this is and what's going on?
25:39 Okay.
25:40 So to kind of summarize it, the petrodollar was what we used to replace the gold standard
25:47 when we went off of the gold standard in '71.
25:50 By '73, we shook hands with Saudi Arabia and the petronations to make sure that they would
25:56 use only US dollars in trade internationally for that of petro.
26:00 So this gave us a stronghold all over the world when it came to our currency dominance
26:05 because they would have to go through us to get to them.
26:10 And that was honestly, that was a handshake deal.
26:12 You're not being facetious.
26:13 It really was just a handshake.
26:15 Absolutely.
26:16 Not only was it a handshake, but it was something that has given us dominance since the '70s.
26:22 And here we are in 2023, and for the first time ever, that's being jeopardized because
26:30 China right now sees an opportunity.
26:32 The current administration is very anti-petro, if you would.
26:36 And then we saw China go to Saudi Arabia and then do a diplomatic approach when they brought
26:42 Iran and Saudi Arabia to the table together in peace negotiations.
26:48 And then also immediately following that, we saw for the first time the yuan being exchanged
26:54 for petro out of Saudi Arabia.
26:57 So I mean, this is a huge game changer, and it's something that everybody is going to
27:03 feel eventually.
27:04 Isn't India a little involved in this in a way too with the petrodollar?
27:08 Aren't they trying to advance in that area?
27:10 Not only India, but I mean, there are many nations around the Middle East.
27:15 The more you look into this, the more you're going to find that it is a rabbit hole that
27:20 you're going to tumble down.
27:21 And the likely outcome here is that we are no longer going to reserve our currency as
27:26 the petro standard, and that is going to possibly jeopardize, not possibly, but it will jeopardize
27:33 our currency as the reserve currency of the world.
27:36 And the big problem with that is we've got so much debt.
27:39 What keeps us afloat is the fact that we're number one.
27:43 But what if we weren't number one?
27:44 I mean, Mike, I'm sure you probably would have concerns about that.
27:48 Right.
27:49 Yeah.
27:50 And so if that's happening, if the dollar is weakening around the world, which it appears
27:52 like it is, how is gold, or what do you recommend, what is a way to protect yourself?
27:57 Well, the reason why gold, in uncertain times, the only certain thing is gold.
28:04 And the reason why is because you go back as far as you want, gold has always been a
28:07 standard of money worldwide, not just in our country.
28:12 But there's no way that we're going to find in our lifetimes or the next gold not being
28:18 a standard of money.
28:19 And therefore, if you retreat and put money into something like gold, you know it's going
28:25 to be there no matter what happens to the currency that your country provides to your
28:30 citizens.
28:31 Well, I know that you talk about just when you say gold, but I know that there are a
28:36 lot of different options and a lot of different things that you can buy, whether it's physical
28:39 gold or whatever it is.
28:41 If people want to learn more on what the right thing to buy is, not just gold, but how to
28:45 buy it, how do you do that?
28:47 Well, the best thing to do is just give us a call.
28:49 You can text us, you can call us, you can go to sbcgold.com.
28:53 But more interesting than that right now is more that they can learn about the petrodollar
28:57 as well.
28:58 If they go to our website right now, they can go ahead and they can request a copy of
29:04 the petrodollar, and then on there, once they get the link to that, they can even go ahead
29:09 and sign up to have all the upcoming events that we've been sourcing and showing people
29:15 that will pop up in their email feed and that they can watch this in real time.
29:19 Well, the advantage also, I think, for people is even though you are nationally known, this
29:23 is a local company.
29:24 You're Scottsdale Bullion and Coins, so they can actually go into an office, talk to somebody
29:28 face to face.
29:30 You're proud to serve the local market.
29:31 Well, absolutely.
29:32 I was born in Arcadia, and I love servicing the community here.
29:36 I mean, yes, we do business all over the country, but we love it when people come in.
29:40 You know, the idea of getting information is one thing, but getting reliable information
29:44 is another thing.
29:45 Expert advice.
29:46 Here's local expert advice at SBC.
29:48 Get down and see Eric and his team.
29:49 Make the phone call.
29:50 Go to the website.
29:51 Thanks for coming down.
29:52 Thank you so much, Mike.
29:53 Here's Scottsdale Bullion and Coin for sponsoring this segment.
29:54 Welcome back to the Met.
29:55 I'm Mike Peralta.
29:56 I'm here with Mike Peralta.
29:57 I'm here with Eric and I'm here with Eric and I'm here with Mike Peralta.
30:17 This is some of the winter featured menu.
30:19 I forget we're still in winter here, you know, with the weather.
30:21 Feels like it this week for sure.
30:22 Definitely.
30:23 This is awesome.
30:24 All right, let's talk about some of the dishes you have here.
30:27 Since we said it's still a little chilly, what do we have down here?
30:29 So that is our new Manhattan clam chowder.
30:31 So it comes in a big bowl, served with a side of garlic cheese bread.
30:33 It's phenomenal.
30:34 Oh my gosh.
30:35 Yeah.
30:36 And then of course, the wings.
30:37 Wings.
30:38 Yes.
30:39 So this is a new sauce for us.
30:40 It's our Street's Gold sauce.
30:41 So it's a mix of a gold barbecue sauce, which is like a mustard based barbecue sauce and
30:44 our medium buffalo sauce.
30:46 Oh my goodness.
30:47 And pizza.
30:48 Yes.
30:49 You can't go wrong with pizza.
30:50 Yeah.
30:51 So this is what you guys are.
30:52 Absolutely.
30:53 And this is something totally new for us.
30:54 So it's our smoked brisket pizza.
30:55 So we have buffalo cheese, mozzarella cheese, hickory smoked brisket, red onions, and then
30:59 we actually top it with a giardiniera.
31:00 Oh my gosh.
31:01 So yeah.
31:02 All right.
31:03 And of course, after you've had all this, you've got to save room for dessert.
31:05 Yes.
31:06 Because down there is the famous.
31:07 Yes.
31:08 That is our peppermint mousse cheesecake that we have right now for the season.
31:10 So if you're a peppermint fan, it's perfect.
31:12 I love it.
31:13 All right.
31:14 Yeah.
31:15 You got something for us that's really cool.
31:16 And this is also on the menu.
31:17 And what's this?
31:18 So this is going to be our Italian beef sandwich.
31:19 So we actually added it back on recently and it's been a great seller.
31:22 So people are really loving it.
31:24 So yeah, so we've got our wildflower bread company bread.
31:26 They make our bread for us fresh every day.
31:28 So we do our garlic butter.
31:30 And that's what I love.
31:31 You guys are local.
31:32 So you use a lot of local people, a lot of local ingredients, a lot of local businesses
31:36 together here.
31:37 Yeah, absolutely.
31:38 We try to definitely support Arizona as much as we can.
31:41 Even to the point where you guys are up north in the Prescott area.
31:44 Yeah, absolutely.
31:45 So I like this.
31:46 All right.
31:47 What else?
31:48 What else?
31:49 What cheese do we put on there?
31:50 We got provolone cheese on there.
31:51 We got garlic butter on there.
31:52 We're going to put the roast beef here in our au jus.
31:53 We're going to let that soak for a few minutes.
31:54 I'm sorry, in the what?
31:55 Au jus.
31:56 Au jus.
31:57 Yes.
31:58 Au jus.
31:59 What is the au jus?
32:00 So it's like an Italian, basically like beef broth.
32:01 So yeah, it's got some good spices in there.
32:02 It gives a lot of flavor to the meat.
32:03 I like it.
32:04 I love how you just slip that into the oven very quickly.
32:06 Through the magic of TV, we've got one already done here for us.
32:09 There you go.
32:10 And put in the, of course, the meat with the au jus.
32:13 That goes in the bowl.
32:14 There we go.
32:15 Look at that.
32:16 Oh my gosh.
32:17 Yeah, this one is really good.
32:18 That looks so delicious.
32:19 And then it gets topped actually with our giardiniera.
32:22 So this is a mild giardiniera, so it's not overly.
32:24 Giardiniera.
32:25 Yes.
32:26 You're using big words for me today.
32:27 So this is our pickled vegetable giardiniera.
32:28 So it's peppers, onions, banana peppers, carrots, celery, and it's all in like an olive oil.
32:36 It's phenomenal.
32:37 There it is.
32:38 And it's all ready to go.
32:39 Yep.
32:40 Oh my gosh.
32:41 It's so delicious.
32:42 Serve with a side of our au jus.
32:43 Okay.
32:44 Some big things happening this week for you.
32:45 Let's start with Friday.
32:46 What do you got going on?
32:47 So Friday, we're doing the Pizza Across America campaign.
32:48 So we are providing pizzas for a school.
32:51 We're doing pizzas for them, and it's a big program for all across the United States.
32:57 Everyone gets together, and all the pizza places donate pizza.
32:59 I love it.
33:00 Yeah.
33:01 And then in honor of National Pizza Day, we're also doing $2 slices all day.
33:04 Oh my gosh.
33:05 So perfect grab-on-the-go lunch.
33:06 Come on in.
33:07 And the big game.
33:08 The big game is this weekend.
33:09 And you said, "Listen, we know people are not going to want to cook.
33:11 They're going to sit around and of course see if Taylor Swift makes it to the game or
33:15 not."
33:16 Absolutely.
33:17 So you said, "Why not put a special?"
33:18 Yep.
33:19 Yep.
33:20 So we've got 24 wings.
33:21 You can get our new Street's Gold Wings if you want, all for $35, and there's no limit.
33:25 I like it.
33:26 And I love that you also have the wine when you're sitting there and enjoy yourself.
33:28 Family-friendly, great for your body.
33:30 Absolutely.
33:31 How many locations here?
33:32 We have 15 Valley locations.
33:33 And how many up north?
33:34 We have one in Prescott.
33:35 There you go.
33:36 And then also one in Las Vegas.
33:37 I like it.
33:38 Yeah.
33:39 Hey, Brian, thanks very much.
33:40 Thank you so much for having us.
33:41 Thanks for having us.
33:42 Appreciate it.
33:43 Thank you.
33:44 We appreciate it.
33:45 And we want to thank Streets of New York for sponsoring that segment.
33:46 So stick around.
33:47 We've got more to mix after this.
33:47 As we start to age, making sure our heart stays healthy becomes more important.
34:04 And thank you to Archwell Health for sponsoring this segment because they are hosting Heart
34:08 Health Expos to make sure the community is staying connected with those who are there
34:13 to help.
34:14 Dr. Maxim, usually you're in the studio, and now I'm in your stomping ground.
34:20 Yes, welcome.
34:21 Here at the Apache Junction Archwell Health Center facility, which is really cool.
34:26 Let's talk about this because usually when you're in we see the pictures, but now we're
34:28 here and this is what it's all about.
34:31 Yes.
34:32 So welcome.
34:33 Yes, we're at our Apache Junction location.
34:35 All of the Archwell Healths are set up pretty similarly.
34:38 This is a primary care clinic.
34:41 So we have members coming in and out and we have activity centers where we have activities
34:45 set up throughout the day for our members to come and enjoy and spend time with friends
34:49 and with our staff.
34:50 Yes, and today's expo is giving those an opportunity to see the different things that are offered
34:56 through Archwell Health.
34:57 Yes, so February is Heart Health Month.
34:59 So for the month of February, we're sponsoring Heart Healthy Expos at our centers.
35:05 So with these expos, members can come, they can see cooking demonstrations with a chef,
35:10 they can get a heart healthy cookbook.
35:12 We're also partnering with the community blood bank and they can donate blood and just learn
35:16 more about what Archwell has to offer.
35:18 Yes, and that's what's so great is that this opportunity for people who might want to just
35:21 explore Archwell or who are part of Archwell Health to come and check out things.
35:26 Correct.
35:27 So it's a chance for our members to come in, walk around, bring their family, show them
35:31 where they come to the doctor, and then for people who are interested in Archwell, they
35:36 can come and learn more about us, take a tour of the center and see the care team in action.
35:41 Why is this so important to our senior community?
35:43 Really, we want to spread the word about how to keep your heart healthy as you get older.
35:49 And we also want to spread the word about Archwell just being a part of the community.
35:53 We want to be a place where people can come, see a friendly face, get some food, get some
35:59 education, but also be a place where they come for their primary care needs.
36:03 Yeah, I know when I walked in I saw people who were like, "Oh, hey, you're here today.
36:06 I'm here today."
36:07 So it's also a place for meeting new friends and old friends, too.
36:10 Yep, absolutely.
36:11 Our members become a community.
36:12 They do events together.
36:14 And then we see them often here.
36:16 We're all about prevention, so we like to see our patients all the time.
36:19 We like to know what's going on with them.
36:21 So we see each other all the time.
36:23 Yeah, I love that.
36:24 Okay, with the Expo, it's free to come in for anybody who is, again, with Archwell Health
36:28 or not.
36:29 Correct.
36:30 And it's definitely opening up to a lot of different locations, not just here at Patchy
36:33 Junction.
36:34 Correct.
36:35 So East Mesa, February 7th, will have their Heart Healthy Expo.
36:39 And then also in the West Valley, we'll have expos at Surprise, Sun City, and Peoria as
36:44 well.
36:45 Yeah, and are all the times the same?
36:46 Because I know it's from 1 to 3.
36:47 Is that how it is with all of them?
36:49 Yep, and they can go to archwellhealth.com/phoenix.
36:53 That has all of the information about our Heart Health Expos.
36:56 They can see the addresses and the times and the dates there.
36:59 I think this is great.
37:00 What a great facility for, again, our seniors to come in.
37:02 And I love that you have a big smile on your face coming along with the staff and everybody.
37:05 Because that's what it's about, right?
37:07 Yep, yep.
37:08 We love our members.
37:09 We love to see them.
37:10 That's why we create such an inviting space and we hold events because we really want
37:14 to engage the community.
37:15 There it is.
37:16 All right, it is the Archwell Health Heart Expo, Heart Healthy Expo, that's going on
37:21 right now.
37:22 Information is on their website or you can head over to azdailymixed.com.
37:26 So, bye.
37:27 Thank you to Archwell Health for sponsoring that segment.
37:35 You all right?
37:38 All right, welcome back.
37:41 In the first half of the show, Rachel Harris gave us some tips for when you're traveling
37:55 to Winslow, Arizona.
37:57 We didn't get to all of them.
37:59 So, Rachel, what else should people know before going to Winslow?
38:02 Give us a scoop.
38:03 All right, let's roll the video because if you're a train lover, you have got to go to
38:07 this historic town of Winslow.
38:10 So the La Posada Inn we talked about earlier, it backs up to the BNSF Railway and they've
38:16 got a beautiful patio out back.
38:18 So for train lovers, they are in heaven.
38:20 And you can take a cocktail out there as well and watch the trains.
38:24 Over 90 trains a day roll on by and Amtrak also comes twice daily.
38:32 So check that out.
38:33 And you'll see here in just a second that folks are getting off the train, walking over
38:39 to the hotel to check in.
38:40 So that's something else you could do.
38:41 Oh my gosh, that's like door to door service.
38:42 You could do a train trip.
38:43 That's so great.
38:44 Yeah, you could do a train trip and get off at State at the La Posada, which by the way
38:46 is on the National and State Register of Historic Places when it comes to hotels.
38:51 Very cool.
38:52 Yes, so check that out for sure.
38:53 And also one more thing about La Posada, the restaurant.
38:56 If we can show that video, it's called the Turquoise Room and it is a highly rated restaurant.
39:03 There's the coffee shop right there.
39:05 It's called the Turquoise Room because it's named after the fancy private dining car from
39:09 the past that was in the Super Chief train that ran from 1937 to 74 from Chicago to LA.
39:17 There I am having a drink in the bar.
39:19 That looks delicious.
39:20 It was a Cosmo.
39:21 Cheers.
39:22 And the name of the restaurant on the day was called Train of the Stars because lots
39:25 of celebrities would get off the train and go into the La Posada to eat at the restaurant,
39:31 the Harvey House, which is now the Georgia.
39:33 And there are some stars right there.
39:34 And that's my in-laws, Betty and Charles.
39:35 We took them on the trip.
39:37 They're big train lovers.
39:38 That's a beautiful soup, corn and bean.
39:41 All the entrees are fantastic and the placemats are from the original placemats back in the
39:48 train days, the old train days.
39:49 Isn't that cool?
39:50 I bet they have new placemats coming, so I'm going to go check that out.
39:53 And are you a bloody merry gal or a coffee gal in the morning?
39:57 They have both.
39:58 And you've got to have the cinnamon roll.
40:00 So definitely eat at the Turquoise Room.
40:02 You can do breakfast and dinner.
40:04 It's delicious.
40:05 It's so good.
40:06 It's an award-winning restaurant.
40:07 All right, let's go to downtown Winslow.
40:08 There's a few things to do.
40:10 It is a small town, but check it out.
40:13 Population, only 8,900, so you get that small town quaint feel.
40:18 Used to be right off the Route 66, now the I-40 is there, but people still come to see
40:23 the history.
40:24 This store is called the Arizona 66 Trading Company.
40:27 If you're an Eagles fan, they got everything Eagles.
40:29 They got everything Route 66.
40:31 Look at the song, "Witchy Woman" t-shirt.
40:34 There's also shirts that say, "Take it easy."
40:38 And then fun too, it's almost like a mini museum for the Eagles, as you can see.
40:42 And they've got tons of gift ideas as well.
40:45 That's the old Trails Museum.
40:47 Definitely visit that.
40:48 The Flatbed Ford Cafe is fun.
40:51 Homemade breakfast and lunch right there.
40:54 They also sell t-shirts and aprons.
40:57 Make sure you try Grandma's Tacos on Taco Tuesdays.
41:01 Rachel, you're making me so hungry.
41:03 And I love cafes like that.
41:05 Just love it.
41:06 And then Westernware, you gotta check out Rhinestones and Bling.
41:11 Everything Western.
41:12 This is the town where you go to take it easy.
41:14 Oh my gosh, what a fun trip.
41:16 And I know we have another amazing spot, right?
41:18 So here's what's really cool.
41:20 Just a 30-minute drive from Winslow to the Meteor Crater.
41:23 So let's roll video there.
41:25 Now I said goodbye to my in-laws and my husband and I went here by myself on the way home.
41:30 This place is family-friendly.
41:32 Tickets aren't bad at all, $20 to $29.
41:35 Active duty U.S. military, get in free.
41:37 And look at this.
41:38 You can see the Apollo 11 test capsule because the astronauts back in the '60s actually trained
41:44 for the moon landing here at the crater.
41:46 Oh my goodness.
41:47 Because it kind of mimics craters on the moon.
41:48 So I think that is so fascinating.
41:50 It is.
41:51 Love that.
41:52 That is one of the lookout points.
41:53 And check it out.
41:54 You can get so much exercise walking around looking at the crater.
41:58 So you can go all the way down in there.
42:00 Yes.
42:01 And you can walk around yourself or you can do guided tours.
42:05 And there is a piece of the original crater and they've got a new coffee house.
42:10 Beautiful space, great food.
42:12 You can take home souvenirs or coffee.
42:14 And there's a nice museum as well, very interactive.
42:17 Kids love that kind of thing.
42:19 And it truly is the best preserved, first proven meteor crater on earth.
42:24 So I recommend the meteor crater and I recommend checking out Winslow.
42:29 I just love doing these Arizona road trips.
42:31 Oh my goodness.
42:32 Well, a road trip is definitely one of the best ways to stay on a budget.
42:35 And you gave us all the best places to stay caffeinated.
42:38 So remind everybody where they can find all the information about that.
42:40 First moms.com, both articles are published.
42:43 The meteor crater, Winslow with all of the links to everywhere I recommend.
42:47 Oh, well, Rachel, I have to go just for the food.
42:49 Yes.
42:50 Everything you show looks amazing.
42:51 Perfect.
