00:00 Hey guys, I'm here at New York Comic Con with the one and only Ron Moore.
00:03 And we are talking about the new season of For All Mankind.
00:07 So Ron, Battlestar, Outlander, For All Mankind, you're killing it in every region I would say.
00:14 Ten years from now you get to go back to one of these shows for one season.
00:19 Which one would it be?
00:20 Oh, that's hard.
00:21 I'm not saying pick a favorite because they're all amazing.
00:24 Yeah, because they're all my children. It's hard.
00:25 You mean looking back at it?
00:27 No, no, you get to go back.
00:28 You get to go back and do another season?
00:30 It would be great to go back and do another season of Battlestar for sure.
00:33 But you know, it's tricky because I ended the show in a way that was definitive.
00:37 Like this is it.
00:39 But it would have been fun to go back and do something in between seasons
00:43 or just to put that cast together one more time.
00:45 Maybe do like bonus season for every of, like each of them.
00:50 A bonus season for them all would be great.
00:53 Okay, so this season of For All Mankind we jump to the future eight years ahead.
00:58 Bill has aged a lot.
00:59 Of course.
01:00 But is Bill going to live?
01:02 I'm getting really nervous this season.
01:04 Well, you never know.
01:05 Like everyone's on Jeopardy every time on the show.
01:07 That's one of the hallmarks of the series.
01:10 When we set it up, we said this is a generational show
01:12 and characters are going to come and characters are going to go
01:15 and there's always going to be loss,
01:17 but there's always somebody else, you know, coming up behind them.
01:19 So it's just one of those things that I think is part of the fun of the series
01:22 is, you know, worrying about the people that you care about.
01:25 Well, I have to say Karen's death, I think,
01:27 each season there's a jaw-dropping moment.
01:31 I think first with, you know, they were taped up
01:34 and I just like, I was like, oh my gosh.
01:37 So Karen's death, did you guys have any,
01:39 were any of the writers like, oh, we shouldn't do this?
01:41 Was there any division over it?
01:43 There was some debate.
01:44 There's debate over each one of the characters that we've let go or killed,
01:48 you know, for one reason or another.
01:50 And you always sort of argue the pros and cons of it in the writers room.
01:53 But I think we were, we kind of knew that's where that season was going to be
01:57 one way or another kind of early on.
01:59 So when we got to it, it was more, I think, a question of how rather than whether.
02:04 Yeah.
02:05 So each season, I love how you four skump history
02:09 and I have to be honest, I binged all four seasons basically in seven days
02:13 because I'm a new fan.
02:14 Yeah. Oh, really?
02:15 Yeah, yeah. I did that in the last two weeks
02:17 because I was like, I want to be ready.
02:18 Yeah. Huh?
02:19 What's that like?
02:20 It was wild.
02:21 I feel like I lived from when JFK was president till now.
02:24 Like my last week has been insane.
02:27 And I'm here.
02:28 I was like, I live in the future.
02:29 And so, but it's also why I get nervous that all the characters are going to die soon.
02:33 Right.
02:34 What I wanted to ask though about history,
02:36 is there a historical moment that you want to build in maybe to season five
02:39 that you're like some big moment or like how do you guys pick those those moments?
02:43 Well, you know, each season begins with the writer sitting in the room
02:47 and talking about the era.
02:48 What are the things that happened in between like when we ended last season
02:52 where this one is starting
02:54 and what are the pop-cultural moments to sort of tether the audience to this era in history?
02:58 What are the big political moments that happened
03:01 and then how do we navigate between them?
03:04 So there's always like a huge number of events
03:06 and sometimes it's kind of clear, you know, in our heads.
03:09 Well, obviously this is something that we have to incorporate one way or another
03:13 and other times we just decide that that event didn't happen at all.
03:16 Like Clinton's presidency did not happen.
03:19 Did not happen at all, right.
03:21 And sometimes there's historical events that were huge at the time
03:24 that people had kind of forgotten about like with the downing of KAL 007 in season two.
03:30 I brought that up in the room and most of the writers looked at me kind of blankly.
03:33 They hadn't even remembered that and but at the time in the 80s,
03:37 that was like a huge thing, huge thing.
03:39 So it was really interesting to bring that back
03:42 because their reaction told me that the audience was not going to see that coming.
03:46 Yeah, I mean, I don't see anything coming in that show.
03:48 I'm always like, oh no.
03:49 So here's my little game.
03:51 You get to pick one character from all your shows.
03:53 I'm going to give you the characters. So don't worry.
03:55 One character you're stuck on an island with.
03:57 One you get to send to another planet.
04:00 And then one you get to clone so they live forever.
04:02 And one you time travel with. Are you ready?
04:04 Ed Baldwin, Claire, Jamie, Adama, Kara.
04:11 And then I always call him Jamie on Battlestar.
04:15 Okay. All right. So let's say the one you're stuck on an island with.
04:20 Probably Adama. He'd be good company.
04:23 He'd sit, we'd play cards, we'd drink some whiskey,
04:25 you'd tell a lot of stories. He'd be really good company.
04:28 I love how on your island there's whiskey.
04:30 There's whiskey. Oh, yeah, obviously.
04:33 One you get to send to another planet.
04:36 Who are my choices again? Like by themselves?
04:41 Probably Jamie.
04:42 Fraser? Oh, Battlestar.
04:46 Oh, Jamie. Oh, yeah. There's two.
04:48 I like to make up.
04:50 I think just because I think he's the one that would really enjoy the experience of going
04:54 literally where no one has ever been.
04:56 Like he's the one that would really embrace that the most.
04:58 You're right. You're right. Okay. I'm like Fraser.
05:01 And then one you get to clone so they live forever.
05:07 This is a tough test actually.
05:09 So they get to live forever. Kara. Kara's the best.
05:13 I'm still mad at you for the ending. I feel like we can talk about that later.
05:17 But you're not alone. I know.
05:22 And one who you get to time travel with. You can pick two.
05:26 Probably Claire because she's really good at it. She's got some skills.
05:30 And Jamie can't so. Yeah. I feel like he's just floating in the ether.
05:34 You just let him. He'll be fine. He's got, talking about whiskey.
05:36 He's got plenty of whiskey. So you'll get him on your island too.
05:40 Okay. So I do want to ask. Outlander is in its final season or entering it.
05:44 Do you have any plans to make a cameo, write a script, to do anything with season 8?
05:49 I already made my cameo way back in season one. So I checked that box.
05:53 Behind the scenes cameo. And you never know. Maybe it would be fun to write one,
05:56 but I'm not sure if that's in the cards or not because you know,
05:58 I'm not on the staff and but you know, you never say never.
06:01 Never say never guys. Okay. Ron. Great. This season is terrific.
06:06 Please tell me Ed lives. I can't tell you. You never know man.
06:10 They're all in jeopardy. Should we go get whiskey? Yes. Okay.
