Hosts Brad Perry and Lexy Romano present an entertaining and informative look at local trending topics and community events occurring in Arizona.
Transcript
00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:09 Ah, good morning and welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix. I am Brad Perry.
00:16 And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:17 Today on the show we're celebrating upcoming Bob Marley biopic with some authentic Jamaican food from Ocho Rios Jerk Spot.
00:25 And I'm in heaven.
00:26 Oh, I'm so excited. I've actually been to Ocho Rios a couple of times.
00:30 It's really gorgeous, really beautiful.
00:34 So yeah, the first thing I asked was like, "Where's the Red Stripe?"
00:36 And they were like, "We got it. Don't worry."
00:38 So I was going to ask, what part of Ocho Rios? Would it be on the cruises?
00:40 Yeah, it was on the cruises. We used to go there a lot.
00:42 So we actually got to do all of the little jump off spots and all of the waterfalls.
00:48 Yeah, Dunn's River Falls and everything.
00:50 We went to the Blue Hole all the time.
00:53 I love it down there. It's really cool.
00:55 And we're getting an exclusive look at the love issue of Paradise Valley City Lifestyle magazine.
01:00 And there's a pretty big star on the cover. So this is exciting.
01:04 Yeah.
01:05 Can't wait to hear. Oh, she's giving it away.
01:07 Wait, who is it?
01:08 Do you want me to tell you?
01:09 I can't tell. I can't tell.
01:10 Okay, we'll wait. We'll wait. We'll wait.
01:11 We'll wait for this segment because I want her to do the big reveal.
01:14 Plus later in the show, see how you can win a year-long membership to the Desert Botanical Garden.
01:19 So cool.
01:20 So there you go.
01:21 Yeah, very cool.
01:22 Hey, we want to thank Element IV Therapy for sponsoring this update and tip of the day for the WM Phoenix Open.
01:29 Yeah, so this is really cool.
01:30 So, okay, it is the 2024 WM Phoenix Open and we have a calendar of events for you.
01:35 So today, Monday, February 5th, all fans admitted free, courtesy of Ford Free Days,

01:53 Very cool.
01:54 There you go. All right.
01:55 Now, let's hear from Element IV owner Jim Schaefer,
01:58 who has some tips on how to stay hydrated as you head out to the WM Phoenix Open.
02:03 Jim here with Element IV Therapy, your hydration tip of the day.
02:09 Carry a bottle of water around with you to remind yourself to drink water throughout the day.
02:17 Nice. All right. Thank you, Element IV Therapy, for sponsoring this tip and update. We love it.
02:22 There you go. Hydrate. Yes. All week long.
02:24 Hey, that is the best way to stay hydrated is drink your water.
02:27 It's quick. It's easy. Everybody does all the fancy things, but drinking your water, number one.
02:32 Especially that with this week.
02:33 Yes. Yes.
02:35 All right. Let's do some training.
02:36 Brought to you by Gerber Injury Law, where we travel the Internet, the social media websites,
02:39 our own backyard to get to talk about in the talk.
02:41 Today is--
02:42 Talk of the town.
02:43 --the Grammys.
02:44 Yeah.
02:45 Two things I want to mention here that I forgot to mention when we were in our meeting is that it almost got rained out.
02:50 There's a big storm--
02:51 I know, in California.
02:52 --in California.
02:53 Yeah, everybody--
02:54 And the roads were, yeah, like washed out in some of the areas to get over to the football center.
02:58 Yeah, I mean, my family's all still there.
03:00 And, yeah, they've just been getting pounded with rape. People are losing their power. It's crazy.
03:04 Yeah. But the big winner, I think, was Miley Cyrus.
03:08 First time ever winning a Grammy.
03:10 I never knew that because she's been in the music business with, you know, Montana--
03:14 I mean, she comes from-- I mean, talk about--
03:16 --royalty.
03:17 Yeah, she comes from, you know, this world, and she's been in it since she was a little kid, and she's the niece or goddaughter of Dolly Parton.
03:26 So, yeah, she's just got it in her blood.
03:28 So, obviously, you know, she's always kind of the talk of the town because she's always doing something risque, something different.
03:32 But, yeah, she was there last night.
03:34 I mean, she looked fabulous.
03:35 I thought her style was incredible.
03:38 Yes, very, very--
03:39 Again, risque, but fabulous. She always looks great.
03:42 And Celine Dion made an appearance.
03:45 We were talking about that.
03:46 So, that was really great.
03:47 And she said that she's doing better from her stiff person syndrome that has her not being able to sing, which is amazing.
03:54 That's so sad because, like we were saying, she's like one of the great voices of our time.
04:00 It's like, oh, it just, like, breaks my heart that she's not really able to sing anymore.
04:03 So, I really hope she's on the road to recovery and can grace us with that voice again.
04:08 It was a very kind of interesting kind of setup there.
04:11 You saw people in the middle, like, sitting on the floor and then, like, the stage was there.
04:16 So, it was kind of interesting.
04:17 But Trevor North did a great job.
04:19 Yeah, good, good.
04:20 Because I know some other people who have been hosting awards ceremonies have been getting really bad criticism.
04:28 So, I'm glad he did well and it was good.
04:31 It was good.
04:32 And, of course, Daniel, our producer, was very excited because a big announcement was made during the show of her receiving her first award, I think.
04:42 Was it first award of the night?
04:43 No.
04:44 First award?
04:45 What are you talking about?
04:46 Well, first award of the night that she made the announcement.
04:47 And that was Taylor Swift announcing that she is dropping her new album, April.
04:52 She even said, "I'm going to go backstage and post about it."
04:55 And so, the Internet almost crashed.
04:57 See, that's how I saw it.
04:58 I saw her post because I didn't.
05:00 I wasn't able to watch the Grammys.
05:02 But, yeah, I saw her post.
05:03 Daniel, she won one or two last night.
05:06 Two, right?
05:07 Two.
05:08 Fourteen total.
05:09 Yeah.
05:10 Fourth album of the year, right?
05:12 Yeah.
05:13 The year.
05:14 The first Grammy she won of the night, guys.
05:17 That was her 13th Grammy.
05:19 Anybody knows, so, Jesus, I'm not lying.
05:21 Thirteen's her lucky number.
05:22 Thirteen is her lucky number.
05:23 So, that means the Chiefs are going to win.
05:25 The Chiefs are going to win on Saturday.
05:27 There it is.
05:28 [laughter]
05:31 And they're married by June, he says.
05:33 So, look, you know what the bet is right now with those two is that he's going to propose at the Super Bowl.
05:39 Oh, man, these two, they must be like, "Get out of our business," people.
05:44 They must be so over it.
05:46 I'm like, "Let's get out of their business."
05:48 It is a lot.
05:49 We are all up in their business.
05:50 Let's just say.
05:52 Let's just say.
05:53 But, yeah, it was a great, great show, some great live performances.
05:55 I was very excited about Billy Joel.
05:57 I love that new song.
05:59 It's classic Billy Joel.
06:00 So, there was some great, great stuff last night from the Taylor fans, but for the rest of us, too.
06:05 Yeah, it was really good.
06:06 And Lennox performed during the memorial.
06:09 Oh, okay.
06:10 And so that was really good.
06:11 I didn't see that.
06:12 And then John Batiste, is that--
06:14 Yeah.
06:15 He is amazing.
06:16 Yeah, who wrote "Soul."
06:17 He's incredible.
06:18 He is so incredible.
06:19 Yeah, Josh is a huge fan.
06:20 Yeah.
06:21 I mean, I was a little bit, and then now I'm even more, so I'm going to actually go watch the documentary.
06:24 Yeah, his documentary.
06:25 Did you guys watch it?
06:26 Yeah, it's really cool.
06:27 Is it?
06:28 So, all right, I have to go check it out.
06:29 So, all right, but coming up, we're going to be getting a look at the love issue for
06:33 Paradise Valley City Lifestyle Magazine.
06:35 So, come on back.
06:37 [applause]
06:43 [music]
06:52 All right, friend of the show, Nadine Bumag is here today to give us a little taste, or
06:57 sip, of the local love February issue of the Paradise Valley City Lifestyle Magazine.
07:02 And we want to thank Paradise Valley City Lifestyle Magazine for sponsoring this segment.
07:06 So, Nadine, we're so excited to chat about this.
07:08 Yes.
07:09 Tell us all about the love.
07:10 This is a fun one.
07:11 It is the love issue of Paradise Valley City Lifestyle.
07:14 That's great.
07:15 So, we have our golden couple, Michael and Nicole Phelps.
07:19 We had an exclusive photo shoot with their entire family just months before baby Nico
07:25 was born.
07:26 Oh, my goodness.
07:27 Now, Nicole and Michael, they have three boys.
07:28 It was the best photo shoot ever.
07:29 I was in my element with all the little boys running around.
07:32 I was going to say, that's like your world.
07:33 It was all the things.
07:34 Because you have three boys, so you were just like at home.
07:36 But she added one more to the mix.
07:38 And baby Nico was--
07:39 Another boy?
07:40 Yes, another boy.
07:41 Oh, my gosh.
07:42 She was--wow.
07:43 Yeah, they have four boys, four beautiful boys.
07:44 Well, congrats to them.
07:45 And it was such an honor doing this beautiful story.
07:47 I mean, it's just gorgeous.
07:49 These photos are stunning.
07:50 I mean, the quality of this is just absolutely gorgeous.
07:53 So, everybody who is, you know, in the mood for love this February season, we got a gorgeous couple and a beautiful family right there for you.
07:59 And we also learned that not only is Michael the probably most decorated Olympian of all time, he is amazing in the kitchen.
08:06 So, Nicole will find things on Instagram and send it and be like, "Hey, will you try this tonight?
08:11 Will you try this tonight?"
08:12 And apparently, he makes a Maine chicken parmesan.
08:14 Oh, wow.
08:15 That sounds--oh, my gosh.
08:16 I'm Italian.
08:17 That's like my go-to.
08:18 And my last question was, I was like, "Has Michael ever let you win in a race in the pool?"
08:23 She goes, "It's physically impossible because my fastest swim is his slowest stroke."
08:30 Oh, no.
08:31 I know.
08:32 But it's so cute.
08:33 Well, that's okay.
08:34 He does what he does, she does what she does, and they have a beautiful family and make it work.
08:37 Okay, but I think now we need to get to this.
08:38 I was going to say, we have to talk about what's on the table because this is incredible, this display.
08:42 So, tell me about what we got here.
08:44 Well, I'm not going to tell you.
08:45 I'm going to bring in my friend, Haley.
08:46 All right, Haley, come on over.
08:47 Yeah, B&B Cocktail Lounge.
08:49 We did a great piece on them in February about what to drink and eat this month for Valentine's Day.
08:54 And I'm going to step away because I want to see some drink magic.
08:56 This is what I want to drink for Valentine's Day.
08:58 So, tell me about what we have.
08:59 I'll drink all of them.
09:00 Tell me about what we have here on the display.
09:02 Well, this is the perfect way to celebrate Galentine's Day.
09:05 You bring in your best girlfriends, you go to the B&B Cocktail Lounge, you all order martinis, and you get this sparkling tower.
09:13 This is gorgeous.
09:14 It is sparkling.
09:15 That's delicious.
09:16 Oh, my gosh.
09:17 Yeah, every one of those cocktails looks incredible.
09:19 But there's also a smoke show.
09:20 Oh, yeah.
09:21 It's not just us.
09:22 It's not just you.
09:23 [laughter]
09:24 Okay, so are you…
09:25 Do you want to see that?
09:26 Yes, please.
09:27 Okay, okay.
09:28 Let's…
09:29 You've got to smoke up this martini.
09:30 Okay.
09:31 So, this martini is going to be made with mezcal.
09:32 A lot of people are a little worried about the mezcal and the taste of the smokiness.
09:36 It's delicious.
09:37 But it is so much fun.
09:39 Ooh.
09:40 And it is so light and refreshing.
09:42 Wow.
09:43 And then, if you talk about presentation, we all see that smoke, we smell it.
09:47 Yeah, this is incredible.
09:48 It is absolutely amazing.
09:49 Oh, my gosh.
09:50 I'll bet this cocktail is gorgeous.
09:52 It is a showstopper.
09:54 And it's still 5 o'clock somewhere, right?
09:56 There you go.
09:57 100%.
09:58 Okay.
09:59 Can you imagine this coming to your table when you're doing Galentine's with your friends?
10:00 Like, this is so incredible.
10:01 So fun.
10:02 Wow.
10:03 Okay.
10:04 But you can also share a drink.
10:05 Okay.
10:06 Have you ever seen a martini glass this big?
10:07 We'll see.
10:08 I wasn't sure if this was a martini glass or like a small egg.
10:09 This is actually just for you.
10:10 I don't know.
10:11 Like, what is it?
10:12 It's just for you.
10:13 So, what are we putting in here?
10:14 Today, we have our Up All Night Espresso Martini.
10:17 Oh, my gosh.
10:18 Espresso martinis are having a comeback right now.
10:20 They are.
10:21 They really are.
10:22 So, we're going to start with some ice.
10:23 We are going to start with some ice.
10:24 Great.
10:25 Get that shaken up.
10:26 And you can get these at the lounge, and everybody throws in a little straw, and you just have
10:29 a night.
10:30 It is so fun.
10:31 This is so fun.
10:32 Another great Galentine's right here because all of your girls can come together to enjoy
10:36 this.
10:37 Right.
10:38 Absolutely.
10:39 And like you said, get straws.
10:40 Like the old school, you know, milkshake bar where everybody has a straw.
10:41 Exactly.
10:42 Incredible.
10:43 Except it's an espresso martini.
10:44 That's even better.
10:45 Which is way better.
10:46 Way better.
10:47 All right.
10:48 So, you're going to show us the magic here.
10:49 I am.
10:50 Two at a time.
10:51 Two at a time.
10:52 Well, it's extra big.
10:53 Look at the glass.
10:54 Yeah, this is incredible.
10:55 Okay.
10:56 Are we ready for this?
10:57 It is absolutely delicious.
10:58 And this is what you guys are known for at B&B, right?
11:00 We are.
11:01 This is one of your signatures right here, these giant martinis.
11:04 And we have a whole menu dedicated to espresso martinis.
11:07 Oh, no way.
11:09 You guys I'm sure are always selling out on those bad boys.
11:13 I mean, look at it.
11:14 Huge hit.
11:15 That's amazing.
11:16 This is so much fun.
11:17 And I'm going to top this.
11:18 This is my favorite part.
11:19 I can't deal with this.
11:20 It's like dessert.
11:21 With the best.
11:23 This is so perfect for February, for the month of love.
11:27 Sorry, guys.
11:28 And you can do the gown sign, so you could also bring in, you know, some devastation
11:29 there.
11:30 Yeah.
11:31 I mean, look at it.
11:32 I mean, even just for you and your thirsty heart.
11:33 That's perfect.
11:34 Okay, so some whipped cream and a little bit of that drizzle.
11:42 A little bit of chocolate.
11:43 Delicious.
11:44 So, like you said, one of those old style.
11:48 Straws.
11:49 Boom, boom, boom.
11:50 Oh, my gosh.
11:51 That's incredible.
11:52 And then, of course, you guys also have some delicious actual desserts over here.
11:55 We do.
11:56 You have a whole menu for Valentine's Day.
11:57 We have a full menu.
11:58 We have a three-course menu that we're holding.
11:59 So, you get a choice of two salads.
12:02 You get a choice of an entree to share with your loved one or your girlfriend and a dessert
12:07 at the end.
12:08 You can also do a sparkling toast right here.
12:10 Fantastic.
12:11 Shall we?
12:12 Yes, B&B is the place to go for Valentine's Day.
12:14 Cheers.
12:15 Cheers, ladies.
12:16 Thank you for telling us all about what's in this month's love issue.
12:19 And thank you so much to Paradise Valley City Lifestyle Magazine for sponsoring this segment.
12:23 Coming up, find out how you can get a near perfect smile when the mix returns.
12:26 I'd like really more.
12:27 Cheers, ladies.
12:27 Oh, your smile says a lot about who you are and how you show up in the world.
12:50 Well, Dr. Espinosa from Smile Max 365 is here to tell us how dental implants can change
12:56 your life.
12:57 So, before we get started with that, let's talk about Smile Max 365.
13:00 And how long have you guys been around the Valley?
13:03 We've been around the Valley for over 22 years now.
13:06 It's amazing.
13:07 Yeah, that is great.
13:08 Time flies.
13:09 It does.
13:10 And what I love is that you guys are not just about the implants.
13:11 You guys are actually a dentistry that takes care of everybody's needs.
13:15 That's right, Brad.
13:16 We're full progressive.
13:18 We're full scope dentistry.
13:20 So we do everything from basic teeth cleanings and fillings to all the way to reconstructive
13:25 rehab work that puts people's mouth back on track.
13:29 I like it.
13:30 And one thing I love too is that over the weekend, people are going to be biting into
13:34 something.
13:35 They might have a little accident, chip a tooth, something like that.
13:38 And they're like, "Oh, I got to wait until maybe Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or even like
13:42 a month."
13:43 You guys are open seven days a week.
13:44 That's right.
13:45 Those people don't have to wait.
13:46 Yeah.
13:47 So we make dentistry accessible to all people.
13:50 And when you have that toothache, you can't wait.
13:52 And so that's why we've made a commitment to the community, to all of Arizona, that
13:56 we'll be there for them when they need us the most.
13:59 I love that.
14:00 And what's also important is your smile.
14:01 And for those that might have to have an implant done, it has changed a lot, hasn't it?
14:07 Oh, it's changed tremendously.
14:09 And I'm always on the top of the leading edge science.
14:13 And we have many dental implants that are now changing people's lives with minimally
14:18 invasive, less appointments, less time, less pain, and less cost.
14:23 I love it.
14:24 Now, you have some samples here that people need to understand that there's a lot of different
14:27 ways of implants because, again, some people think, "Oh, my goodness.
14:31 You know what?
14:32 I broke one and I want to get an implant.
14:33 Do I get all of them done?"
14:34 That's not true, is it?
14:35 No, no.
14:36 Some people just need one tooth, Brad.
14:38 In this case right here, this is a front tooth.
14:41 And we place a mini dental implant.
14:44 We numb the area and we do a little pin prick.
14:48 And then we put the mini dental implant in.
14:51 And then your body, we put a temporary.
14:53 You have a tooth right away the same day.
14:55 And then eight weeks later, your bone has grabbed the implant.
14:59 That's what happens.
15:00 Our bone grabs the implant.
15:02 And then we're able to put a beautiful zirconia crown that's all ceramic and it looks great.
15:08 Wow.
15:09 Okay, Doc.
15:10 Let's go ahead and show people what these look like because, I mean, they're pretty
15:12 small here.
15:13 I want to put them in my hand.
15:14 Yes.
15:15 So people can see how small these are and what goes on here.
15:17 That's right.
15:18 This large one, this two-piece one, is your classic implant.
15:23 This one here is the mini implant, the narrow diameter or small diameter implant that is
15:30 minimally invasive.
15:31 And you can see the difference in size.
15:32 It's huge.
15:33 It's a big difference.
15:34 But what we found, Brad, is that we can place mini dental implants and they're just as durable
15:39 and long-lasting as the large two-piece diameter implants.
15:42 Wow, that's amazing.
15:43 Okay, so now let's talk about, of course, having, I guess, a mouth full of implants,
15:49 you can say.
15:50 It's not like we used to have it, is it?
15:52 No, it's not.
15:54 If you've lost all your teeth, we have a solution.
15:56 We have several solutions.
15:57 It's not like sometimes the other guys just have one solution, but we have several.
16:01 We have mini implant denture stabilization.
16:06 This one's great.
16:07 This is upper denture.
16:08 We place four to six mini dental implants and then we can cut the roof out of the palate
16:14 of the denture for folks because we have taste buds in our palate and we can't taste the
16:19 food if it's covered.
16:20 And so also what this allows our patients to do is taste the cold and hot of their food
16:26 and drinks that they have every day.
16:27 Wow, that's amazing.
16:28 Yeah, really cool.
16:29 So I like to call it a topless denture.
16:31 All right, what's our next one?
16:33 The next one is a lower denture stabilization where most people here have to wear a lot
16:38 of goop and I feel goop is poop.
16:41 No good.
16:42 All right.
16:43 Okay, so we place four to six mini dental implants here and then we place a lower denture
16:48 right on top of that and boom, it doesn't slip, it doesn't move.
16:53 People can laugh out loud with confidence, talk without worrying about their denture
16:56 slipping, Brad.
16:57 I like it.
16:58 It's amazing.
16:59 What about having permanent dentures?
17:00 Well, some people want permanent, okay?
17:02 We call these permanent teeth.
17:04 These are we denture teeth, Brad, but these are the next best thing to having your natural
17:08 teeth again.
17:10 These are zirconia roundhouse and you can see there's a lot less coverage here, okay?
17:15 And we place six to eight to 10 mini dental implants and then we place a fixed bridge
17:22 right on there.
17:23 It's all zirconia, all ceramic and then it goes snaps on and it doesn't get removed at
17:28 all.
17:29 Some folks like that option.
17:30 Yeah, that's amazing.
17:31 This option we can remove once a year.
17:33 The next option we have is the full roundhouse zirconia.
17:37 Now that one we place many more implants, like 10, 8, 12 mini implants, okay?
17:43 And no matter how many we place, we don't charge extra.
17:45 Just want everyone to know that, okay?
17:47 And then we go ahead and glue this on permanently and boom, it does not come out at all, Brad.
17:53 And people really like that.
17:54 This is amazing.
17:55 Great way to have a great smile no matter what stage you are in your, of course, your
18:00 tooth missing or doing different things and stuff.
18:02 Yeah.
18:03 So I love it.
18:04 Yeah, thank you.
18:05 People love it.
18:06 Yeah, it's really neat.
18:07 It's SmileMax 365.
18:08 You got to check them out.
18:09 Website's right there on the screen but also have information on aztv.com.
18:12 All right, thank you to SmileMax 365 for sponsoring this segment.

18:29 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
18:32 Those were some strong martinis.
18:39 I didn't really drink them but I wish I had.

19:35 Enter to win and make sure to tune in this Friday to get a sneak peek of their 85th anniversary
19:39 celebration.
19:40 Exciting.
19:41 And also, it's dog friendly too.
19:44 Oh, there you go.
19:45 That's great.
19:46 So some things do.
19:47 All right.
19:48 Hey, the big football game week has started in Las Vegas and early this morning, I got
19:50 an update on what is happening so far for the big game.
19:54 Take a look.
19:56 Good morning, Sasha.
19:59 How are you?
20:02 Good morning.
20:03 I'll tell you, this is awesome.
20:06 You just had the F1 race there.
20:08 Now the big game.
20:10 How excited is Vegas to have more sports going on in, of course, the city?
20:16 Oh my gosh.
20:17 So great.
20:18 The F1 just a couple months ago was such just really a great experience.
20:22 I was lucky enough to cover it and kind of be right up next to the track, which was unbelievable.
20:27 The cars going 200 miles an hour.
20:29 The city kind of transformed for that.
20:32 The cars were right on the strip.
20:34 It turned into a racetrack.
20:35 So that all came down and now we're on to Super Bowl.
20:38 So yet another big sporting event here in Las Vegas.
20:41 It's really become a sports city.
20:42 I myself have lived here about six years and it really has been fun to see it all transform.
20:47 And now, of course, it is an NFL city with the Raiders here.
20:50 So we're all just really excited to show off what this city has to offer.
20:54 Allegiant Stadium, absolutely gorgeous.
20:56 A lot to look forward to this week.
20:57 So it's really been a great time to see it kind of all come together and we're excited
21:02 to see it all happen this week.
21:03 Yeah.
21:04 You know, we are just a drive away to Vegas.
21:07 That means people are going to head over there probably this week to go do things during
21:11 the week of Super Bowl.
21:12 So what's some things people can check out?
21:16 Quite a few different options.
21:18 Tonight is opening night.
21:19 That's a big event that kind of kicks off all the events of the Super Bowl.
21:22 As you know, they're in Arizona, had the Super Bowl there last year I was there.
21:26 It was so great.
21:28 Definitely a lot of other things to look forward to as well.
21:30 There is the Super Bowl experience, which is a blast.
21:32 I would definitely recommend that you get to play all sorts of fun games like throw
21:36 football like a quarterback, things like that.
21:39 So there's different options.
21:40 Those are really the main things.
21:41 And of course, it is Vegas.
21:42 So there's always something to do, whether it is Super Bowl related or there's options
21:46 on the Strip.
21:48 You can go see all the different attractions we have here.
21:51 So really a lot to do for all of you there in Arizona.
21:54 And like you said, just about a four hour drive away from Phoenix there.
21:57 So really a great opportunity to come down and see it all.
22:01 You know, I love is that you can bet on anything in Vegas.
22:03 And one thing that people are betting on is the Spear.
22:06 And that is if that character will make an appearance throughout the week.
22:12 Yes, the Spear has also been a great thing that we have added this year to our city.
22:18 I'm sure you've seen it everywhere.
22:19 It's kind of been all over the world.
22:21 And during F1, it was utilized a lot, actually.
22:23 And they had all different kinds of advertisements, things like that.
22:26 And it's been the same for the Super Bowl there.
22:28 Once the teams were decided, once the teams were decided for the game, they had those
22:32 up on the Spear.
22:34 And they've been really doing different advertisements all week long.
22:37 And it's going to continue like that in different football, NFL, Super Bowl themed things.
22:41 So fun thing to watch out for on social media or wherever.
22:44 It's really a great thing to showcase everything again that our city here in Las Vegas has
22:49 to offer the world.
22:51 I love it.
22:52 Love it.
22:53 Sasha, I'm looking forward to checking in more with you throughout the week.
22:56 And we thank you for giving us a little update.
23:00 Thank you.
23:01 Thank you.
23:11 Bob Marley's One Love is hitting theaters next week.
23:14 And it's a biopic of the late singer's life.
23:17 And I'll tell you, one part of Bob Marley's life was food.
23:20 Now we all can't head to Jamaica to get a taste of the great, amazing jerk chicken.
23:25 But you can visit Ocho Rios Jerk Spot here in the Valley to get some.
23:29 Before I do that, Mr. Sweets, let me throw my hat on.
23:31 Because this is my home.
23:32 This is my home.
23:33 There's my home.
23:34 There we go.
23:35 We're ready to go, Ma.
23:36 We're ready to go.
23:37 This is great.
23:38 This is delicious.
23:39 As we know, Bob Marley literally was a staple in Jamaica for everybody.
23:44 He was a man that brought people together.
23:46 And he loved his food.
23:47 Yep.
23:48 Nothing more than jerk chicken.
23:49 I like that.
23:50 Now, let's talk about your restaurant, because this is authentic, real Jamaican food.
23:55 Because you're from Ocho Rios, right?
23:56 Yes.
23:57 So what part of Ocho Rios?
23:58 We're from the northern section of Ocho Rios.
24:00 Okay.
24:01 So right in the area.
24:02 So now you've brought the--how long have you been in the States?
24:03 How long have you been here?
24:04 I've been in the States since I was 17 years old.
24:06 Oh, but you still go back home to learn the cooking and everything like that, because
24:09 you have to, right?
24:10 Yes.
24:11 So I love this.
24:12 You've got some great plates right here for us that we're going to check out.
24:13 So let's start with the jerk chicken.
24:14 Now, what do we have down there?
24:15 This is jerk chicken.
24:16 You top it off with some rice and peas and some cabbage.
24:19 You know, jerk is king.
24:21 Right here, we have the jerk shrimp.
24:22 Easy.
24:23 Similar to the chicken, but for the ones that like seafood.
24:27 Right here, we have curry gold.
24:28 Ain't nothing like curry gold.
24:30 And right here, oxtails.
24:31 You have to top it off with oxtails.
24:32 But you're jumping over some other parts, because also it's about the sides here.
24:37 What sides do you have on these?
24:39 Which right here, we have the rice and beans with the cabbage.
24:42 We have another variety.
24:43 We have the mac and cheese.
24:46 Right here again, we have the potato salad and fried plantain.
24:48 Ain't nothing good without fried plantain.
24:50 There it is right there.
24:51 And you need that, especially if you're having the sauce on there, because that will definitely
24:54 cool it down a little bit.
24:55 And if you've not had a Jamaican mac and cheese, you've not had mac and cheese.
25:00 Correct.
25:01 Which is really nice.
25:02 And then I love too, is that you bring in the authentic Jamaican drinks.
25:04 You have to have some cream soda, pineapple soda, and if you're old enough to drink, red
25:11 stripe beer.
25:12 Ain't no jerk without red stripe.
25:13 There it is.
25:14 What about Ting?
25:15 You got any Ting?
25:16 You have to come to Ocho Rios Jerk Spot for that.
25:17 You won't bring some stuff in I was asking about, especially I'm still kind of new.
25:21 Come to Ocho Rios Jerk Spot for that.
25:22 I love it.
25:23 That is awesome to have and enjoy.
25:24 We're going to find out where that spot is in just a minute, but we also want to find
25:26 out that again, the movie comes out on the 14th, but this weekend you're doing another
25:30 tribute to Bob Marley, aren't you?
25:31 Yes, so the tribute to Bob Marley.
25:33 We have the Jamaican Jerk Roots of Reggae Festival where we have different area artists.
25:39 We have Tenel, we have A.O.J., we have Joshua David Barrett, and Tamascal.
25:44 It's a local multicultural reggae band.
25:47 Awesome group.
25:48 You have to come and check them out.
25:49 And that's happening down in the Tempe Lake area.
25:51 In Tempe, Arizona, Ruben Ramiro Park, February 10th from noon to 6pm.
25:57 I like it.
25:58 And that's where you're going to have all this down there for people to give a taste?
26:00 All this food and a lot more.
26:01 In Kuala Lumpur or no?
26:02 No, Kuala Lumpur.
26:03 You have to come to Ocho Rios Jerk Spot for that.
26:05 Tell people what Kuala Lumpur is so they understand.
26:06 Kuala Lumpur is similar to collard green.
26:09 It's Jamaican version of collard green, but it's easier on the tongue.
26:12 It's not that bitter.
26:13 Right.
26:14 And what about cornbread?
26:15 You got some cornbread too?
26:16 Festival.
26:17 That's our version of cornbread.
26:18 Festival.
26:19 Oh, yeah, yeah.
26:20 I love it.
26:21 I enjoy it.
26:22 And let's talk a little about Bob Marley.
26:23 And of course, as we said, this biopic is very important to a lot of people to understand
26:27 Bob Marley, where he's come from and what he's done.
26:30 And also, a lot of people think Bob Marley died from the gunshot that he sustained.
26:35 Oh, no, he died from cancer.
26:36 From cancer.
26:37 And that's why this story is so important for people to understand, isn't it?
26:40 Yes.
26:41 Well, growing up, it's all about Bob.
26:44 Everything in Jamaica is about Bob.
26:46 The things that he does for the community, the things that he does for the world, actually.
26:50 So I'm excited myself to check the movie out.
26:52 Yeah, and I got a blessing from the family that was really great.
26:55 Actually, Ziggy has been pretty much on a big promotion around the world promoting this.
26:59 And so they wanted to bring it out on Valentine's Day to show the love that Bob had for people
27:05 and that people had for him, which is amazing.
27:07 And right now, this week, it's going all over the country.
27:11 There's a one-love festival all over the country celebrating Bob.
27:14 Just right here in Arizona, we have the Jamaican Jerk Roots of Reggae Festival celebrating Bob
27:19 also.
27:20 So, Mr. Sweets, all right, tell them where they can come and get some Callaloo.
27:23 All right, come to Oteria Stirkspot, 43rd and Northern, Dysart and McDowell in Goodyear.
27:30 And we have what?
27:31 Levine, stay tuned.
27:32 We're coming to you soon.
27:33 I like that.
27:34 Make sure when you walk in, you ask for, "Hey, Mr. Sweets, can I get some Callaloo?"
27:37 Yeah, man.
27:38 Home for the food, still for the vibes.
27:40 There you go.
27:41 And we have information about, of course, the festival on azdailymix.com.
27:46 So, all right, come on back.
27:47 We got more of the mix for you right after this.
28:06 Thank you to Target for sponsoring this segment.
28:08 Whether you're a seasoned party host or a first-timer, we've got the ultimate guide
28:13 on how to host a big game party that's both easy, budget-friendly, and delicious.
28:19 Last week, Brad talked with television host and lifestyle expert, Marissa Brawney, who
28:23 has some wallet-friendly tips that won't compromise the fun.
28:26 Good morning, Marissa.
28:28 How are you?
28:30 I'm great.
28:31 Thanks for having me.
28:32 All right, this is very important, very important stuff we're talking about because, of course,
28:37 we're talking making it easy to enjoy and, of course, entertain for the big game coming
28:43 up, right?
28:45 That's right.
28:46 I have you covered.
28:47 I know it can be intimidating if you've never hosted before, but I'm going to give you some
28:51 budget-friendly options that make it affordable and super simple to do.
28:55 All right, let's get started to a go-to dish for the big game.
28:59 Absolutely.
29:00 So, I'm partnering with Target, and I have to tell you, they have pulled together three
29:05 game day spreads for under $25 this year.
29:09 So this is really going to be a great way to get you started.
29:12 We'll start with my favorite, and I think you'll love it.
29:15 Kind of a twist, it's cheeseburger tacos.
29:18 This is a cheeseburger taco board.
29:20 So you have your seasoned ground beef, all your fixins, your lettuce, your cheese, your
29:24 pickles, and then, of course, you've got to have a special sauce.
29:27 So definitely a fun one, and the best part, all of this under $25.
29:32 They did the same with wings.
29:34 We love our finger foods for the big game.
29:36 Again, everything you need for a great wing basket, under $25.
29:41 And this stylish board that you see here, this is actually from Threshold, Target's
29:45 own brand, which is really nice because Target's a one-stop shop.
29:50 You're going in, you're getting everything you need, both to eat and to serve with.
29:54 And then they also have the nacho board.
29:56 We love a nacho moment, right?
29:57 This gives people lots of different options to fix up their nachos the way that they like.
30:02 So each of these under $25.
30:05 And Target has a lot of other snacking options, too, to fill out your menu.
30:10 So the Good & Gather brand has things like chips, a lot of great dips, some different
30:15 varieties for you to kind of mix and match, popcorn as well.
30:18 And then we don't want to forget about drinks, really important.
30:22 Whether you're going alcoholic or non-alcoholic, Target does have you covered.
30:26 Some non-alcoholic options I wanted to share, though, because a lot of people are continuing
30:30 their dry January.
30:32 Lagunitas and Athletic Brewing Co., two great options you can find at Target.
30:37 Good & Gather also has these sparkling waters.
30:40 The flavors are so good.
30:42 You've got to try the cherry cola.
30:43 So again, budget in mind, budget-friendly with all of this.
30:47 And you're going just to one store, which is really convenient.
30:51 I like that.
30:52 That's so awesome.
30:53 Again, we're all on a budget, of course, going into the new year.
30:55 But we want to make sure that big game is doing great for all our people who are enjoying
31:00 it.
31:01 And what are some other tips to make sure we don't break the bank?
31:04 Well, I would say planning ahead is really the biggest tip, right?
31:08 That's going to be your MVP, having that plan to get you ready to host that day.
31:12 So that's curating your menu.
31:14 It makes it a lot easier when you have that kind of already done.
31:18 You know exactly what you need to get, and then making your list, and then sticking to
31:22 it.
31:23 And I do find that a one-stop shop helps you do that because you're not bouncing around
31:27 store to store and kind of tempted with impulse buys.
31:30 When you're going just to one location, you can really stick to your list a lot better.
31:35 And I have to tell you, Targets, Drive Up, and Delivery, Same Day Delivery, are my best
31:41 friends.
31:42 As a busy mom, I have three little ones.
31:44 So being able to buy everything ahead of time not only saves me getting everyone out of
31:49 the car and into the store, but it helps you stick to your list and, again, not be tempted
31:55 with extras when you're making your list right through the Target app and then going and
31:59 having the items put right in the back of your trunk.
32:01 It makes it super easy.
32:02 I like that.
32:03 All right, any tips for dressing up the tables?
32:05 Anything you recommend?
32:06 I love a pop of color, right?
32:08 And you can bring that in however you'd like, whether it's in the food and really some of
32:12 the accents that you pull in.
32:14 You know, we love themes as well, so dressing things up with a football, if that's the theme,
32:19 little signs and things like that.
32:21 You want to make sure that the ambiance is right, too.
32:24 So you'll see we have a speaker back here from Hay Day.
32:27 You know, being able to really make a nice, social, casual kind of atmosphere is key.
32:33 So finger foods help with that.
32:35 Little pops of color helps with that.
32:37 Making sure the music's right before the good part of the game gets started.
32:41 So you're going to be in good shape if you do all those things.
32:43 Oh, man, this is awesome, Marissa.
32:45 Definitely, as we are preparing for that big game, where can we find more information?
32:50 Just head to Target.com or the Target app for all of these game day ideas, and you'll
32:54 be good to go.
32:55 Perfect.
32:56 Marissa, thanks for joining us this morning.
32:58 Thanks for having me.
32:59 Great to see you, as always.
33:00 Thank you to Target for sponsoring that segment.
33:04 Visit azdatamix.com for more information.
33:07 All right.
33:27 This past year, our Polish director, Michael Petri, spent some time in Italy, and he wanted
33:31 to show us some of the highlights from his trip.
33:34 Yeah.
33:35 One of his highlights is the hidden treasure that he discovered high in the hills above
33:38 Sorrento, Italy.
33:39 It's time to take a trip, and let's go with Michael Petri.
33:44 So ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of finding a hidden treasure.
33:48 I mean, okay, what kid doesn't, right?
33:52 So on our recent trip to Italy, like thousands of visitors every year, I had to stop off
33:57 in Sorrento.
33:58 Now, don't get me wrong.
33:59 Sorrento's a pretty awesome place, known for its beautiful streets, food, pottery.
34:04 Oh, and lemons and limoncello, of course, that you can find just about everywhere you
34:10 go.
34:11 But just be really careful drinking it.
34:13 It could sneak up on you.
34:17 So I didn't quite find the hidden treasure I was hoping to find in Sorrento.
34:21 However, nestled high in the hills above Sorrento was a place that most tourists have never
34:27 visited or even heard of, for that matter.
34:30 And it was there we found a single spot that I may have been waiting a lifetime to find.
34:37 Now, most of you already know that I'm kind of a fan of out-of-the-way places.
34:43 And to get to the old hotel that I had booked online, you had to pass through this little
34:48 hilltop town that I immediately fell in love with.
34:53 And the little town?
34:54 It's called San Agata.
34:55 You're not going to see many tourists here, and if you do, you'll probably find them
35:00 huddled around the town's little gelato shop at night.
35:03 Other than that, you'll see the usual locals hanging out here and there throughout the
35:08 town.
35:12 But that night, I quickly learned that one of the big happenings in San Agata, and probably
35:26 most small towns in Italy, is when there's a good soccer match on TV.
35:31 And here, every single restaurant and bar that you find is filled with the local men
35:37 watching the game.
35:38 And they are into it.
35:40 Everywhere you go, these guys were almost in a trance-like state watching the match.
35:45 So I guess you could say what you will about organized sports.
35:51 But in Italy, based on what I've seen in this one of many little towns, it seems that soccer
35:57 is probably one of the defining mortars that bonds people, and especially the guys, together.
36:05 So the next morning, it was time to head farther up the hill to where we finally arrived at
36:10 that old hotel that I found and booked online.
36:14 And no, I didn't expect this at all.
36:18 I mean, heck, we're just Midwest kids.
36:23 We don't stay at places like this.
36:25 I mean, it just felt so fancy schmancy.
36:29 So hoity toity.
36:32 So White Lotus.
36:34 Imagine sitting here high above the hills of Sorrento, like a crown jewel.
36:41 They call it Oasis Olympia.
36:45 So I guess you could call it an old hotel.
36:47 It was built in 1892 by "German aristocrat" Max Bradmeier, who was struck by its impressive
36:54 position and its extraordinary setting.
36:57 Honestly, I think he just really dug the view.
37:01 And yeah, so did we.
37:04 So after checking in, we knew we had to go explore.
37:08 And there was a lot to see.
37:10 The entire hotel, for example, is furnished with some of the original furnishings from
37:15 the 1800s.
37:17 And there are priceless oil paintings and artwork throughout the hotel.
37:22 And all the food that is prepared and served at the Oasis is made with vegetables, herbs,
37:27 and fruit that are grown right there on the property.
37:40 There's even horses that I had to visit.
37:42 I mean, I'm pretty sure I speak their language.
37:48 Farm boy.
37:50 And the more you explore this little hidden gem that's high in the hills, the better it
37:55 gets.
38:08 And the views?
38:09 Well, Giovanni, the general manager, explained all the different vistas that you can take
38:15 in from just this one beautiful spot.
38:18 Giovanni, I mean, come on.
38:21 This is paradise.
38:22 Yes.
38:23 We are in Sant'Agata, so we do a golf field.
38:26 That is Sant'Agata on the two bays.
38:28 So we have Naples Bay, Salerno Bay, Sorrento Coast, and the Amalfi Coast.
38:34 That's you can see all the views, Vesuvius, Naples, Procida, Ischia, Capri Island on your
38:40 shoulder, and all the Amalfi Coast on the other side.
38:45 So after spending the day exploring, the sun was just starting to dip into that perfect
38:50 spot in the sky.
38:52 And because this was going to be our last night staying here on this beautiful hilltop
38:56 in Italy, and we'd probably never experience anything quite this cool again anytime soon,
39:02 Michelle decided that this was a perfect time for a farewell sunset dance.
39:08 And yeah, I decided to go first to show her how it's done.
39:13 Hey.
39:14 Hey.
39:15 Hey.
39:16 Hey.
39:17 All right.
39:18 Obviously, that didn't go well.
39:20 But then, the spirit of the moment hit her.

39:55 So that night, if anyone had told me what we were going to experience the next morning,
40:02 I would have thought they were a little crazy.
40:05 Because what we witnessed that next morning is probably one of the biggest treasures that
40:11 I've been waiting to discover my entire life.
40:15 And it happened right there before our eyes.
40:19 When the early morning Italian sky performed one of the most amazing symphonies that I've
40:26 ever dreamed of seeing.

40:46 It's almost like the heavens were reminding us that, yeah, there is a God.
41:02 And we were being reminded of it in such a beautiful way.
41:07 In Italy.
41:09 [MUSIC PLAYING]
