00:00 Bob Marley's One Love is hitting theaters next week and it's a biopic of
00:04 the late singer's life and I'll tell you one part of Bob Marley's life was food and
00:10 now we all can't head to Jamaica to get a taste of the great amazing jerk
00:14 chicken but you can visit Oteria Jerk Spot here in the valley to get some and
00:19 before I do that, Mr. Sweets, let me throw my hat on.
00:21 There's Yaman, you know what I'm saying? There we go.
00:24 We're ready to go, man. We're ready to go. This is great. This is delicious.
00:28 As we know, Bob Marley literally was a staple in Jamaica for everybody.
00:33 He was a man that brought people together and he loved his food.
00:37 Yep, nothing more than jerk chicken.
00:39 I like that. Now let's talk about your restaurant because this is authentic,
00:43 real Jamaican food because you're from Oterias, right?
00:46 Yes.
00:46 So now what part of Oterias?
00:48 We're from the northern section of Oterias.
00:50 Okay, so right in the area. So now you brought the... how long have you been in the States?
00:53 How long have you been here?
00:53 I've been in the States since I was 17 years old.
00:56 Oh, but you still go back home to learn the cooking and everything like that because you have to, right?
00:59 Yes.
01:00 So I love this. You got some great plates right here for us as we're going to check out.
01:03 So let's start with the jerk chicken. What do we have down there?
01:05 This is jerk chicken. You top it off with some rice and peas and some cabbage. You know, jerk is king.
01:10 Right here we have the jerk shrimp. Easy, similar to the chicken, but for the ones that like seafood.
01:16 Right here we have curry goat. Ain't nothing like curry goat.
01:19 Oh yeah.
01:20 And right here, oxtails.
01:22 Yaman.
01:23 Yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
01:23 You have to top it off with oxtails.
01:24 But you're jumping over some other parts because also it's about the sides here.
01:27 What sides do you have on these?
01:28 All right. Which right here we have the rice and beans with the cabbage.
01:31 Right.
01:32 We have another variety. We have the mac and cheese.
01:34 Right here again we have the potato salad and five plantains. Ain't nothing good without five plantains.
01:40 There it is right there. And you need that, especially if you're having the sauce on there
01:43 because that will definitely cool it down a little bit.
01:44 Cool it down.
01:45 And if you've not had a Jamaican mac and cheese, you've not had mac and cheese.
01:50 Correct.
01:50 Well, I'm telling you right there, which is really nice.
01:51 And then I love too is that you bring in the authentic Jamaican drinks.
01:54 You have to have some cream soda.
01:57 Yeah.
01:57 Pineapple soda.
01:59 And if you're old enough to drink, red stripe beer. Ain't no drink without red stripe.
02:03 What about Ting? You ain't Ting.
02:05 You have to come to Altruist Jerk Spot for that.
02:06 You have to come to Ting. He won't bring some stuff that I was asking about, especially also
02:09 a can of noo.
02:10 Come to Altruist Jerk Spot for that.
02:12 I love it. That is awesome to have and enjoy.
02:14 And we're going to find out where that spot is in just a minute.
02:15 But we also want to find out that again, the movie comes out on the 14th.
02:18 But this weekend, you're doing another tribute to Bob Martin.
02:21 So the tribute to Bob Martin.
02:22 We have the Jamaican Jerk Roots of Reggae Festival where we have a different area artists.
02:28 We have Tenel. We have A.O.J.
02:31 We have Joshua David Barrett and Tamascal.
02:33 It's a local multicultural reggae band. Awesome group.
02:37 I love that.
02:38 You have to come and check them out.
02:39 And that's happening down the Tempe Lake.
02:40 Tempe in Tempe, Arizona.
02:42 Ruben Ramiro Park, February 10th from noon to 6 p.m.
02:47 I like it. And that's where you're going to have all this down there.
02:49 We have all this food.
02:51 No, you have to come to Ocho Rios Jerk Spot for that.
02:54 Tell people what Kallaloo is so they understand.
02:56 Kallaloo is similar to collard green.
02:58 Yeah.
02:59 It's Jamaican version of collard green, but it's easy on the tongue.
03:02 It's not that bitter.
03:03 Right. And what about cornbread? You got some cornbread too?
03:05 Festival. That's our version of cornbread.
03:07 Yeah. Yeah. See, that's what I'm talking about right there, which is so delicious for everybody to enjoy.
03:11 And let's talk a little about Bob Marley.
03:12 And of course, as we said, that this biopic is very important to a lot of people to understand
03:17 Bob Marley, where he's come from and what he's done.
03:20 And also a lot of people think Bob Marley died from the gunshot that he sustained.
03:25 Oh, no, he died from cancer.
03:26 From cancer. And that's why the story is so important for people to understand, isn't it?
03:29 Yes.
03:30 Mr. Sweets, all right, tell them where they can come and get some Kallaloo.
03:33 All right. Come to Ocho Rios Jerk Spot, 43rd and Northern, Dysart and McDowell in Goodyear.
03:40 And we have Levine. Stay tuned. We're coming to you soon.
03:44 I like that. Make sure when you walk in, you ask for,
03:46 "Hey, Mr. Sweets, can I get some Kallaloo?"
03:48 Yeah, man. Come for the food, stay for the vibes.
03:51 There you go. And we have information about, of course, the festival on azdailymix.com.
03:57 So, all right, come on back. We got more of the mix for you right after this.
04:00 Thanks.
04:01 This is good.
