00:00 Okay, so we obviously have to talk about this historic win that you just came home with.
00:06 Talk about being nominated in this category, this new category, and then also being able
00:11 to take home the Nice Little Trophy.
00:13 I mean, it feels poetic, honestly.
00:17 When I'm asked what kind of music I make, I meet someone that has no clue.
00:23 Like, "Oh, what do you do, dear?"
00:25 I'm like, "I make music."
00:27 "Oh, what kind of music?"
00:29 "Oh, I make pop dance."
00:31 So, yes, to win with the inaugural category of pop dance, it's what I've done for such
00:37 a long time, and I'm super happy and proud.
00:40 And, I mean, it's 20 years since your first win.
00:44 So, you talked about being poetic.
00:46 That's poetic, right, in and of itself.
00:49 Winning it then, 20 years later, I mean, have you even had a second to reflect on how big
00:55 that is as you've been preparing for tonight?
00:58 To be honest, win or no win, it was already momentous for me that it's 20 years since
01:08 the other...
01:09 I've got to sit now.
01:10 I'm going to start collecting.
01:13 Yeah, I'm just...
01:15 I'm so moved by representing longevity and that you can adapt and evolve.
01:24 Maybe evolve is an even better word than longevity.
01:28 I've never stopped working, and to have these little peaks is so helpful.
01:34 I'm in the studio next week.
01:37 I'm so inspired with music right now.
01:39 You're in the studio next week.
01:40 What's inspiring you right now?
01:42 Everything.
01:43 Pudim, People's Response, Tension, Vegas.
01:47 I mean, I don't have room for more songs in my show, but I will make room.
01:51 Okay, I think we need to make room because you're in the studio.
01:54 We need it immediately because it's got this energy that we have, especially coming off
01:58 of this huge win.
01:59 Yeah, well, I feel like I use a surfing analogy a lot, which as a surfer, I am not, but you
02:06 paddle.
02:07 You're never going to catch a wave unless you're paddling, and I paddle.
02:13 This currently, it's a wave, so I just want to ride it, like ride it hard.
02:20 Catch the view from time to time, like look up and be aware that this is, which I'm very
02:24 much aware this is a great moment.
02:26 I'm very thankful for it, and yeah, I'm thinking about what's next.
02:32 We're always thinking about what's next while also staying present.
02:35 That's a lesson that I am going to take from you today, especially in evolution because
02:40 I'm trying to be on your wave.
02:42 I'm really trying to be on your wave.
02:43 Jump on, jump on.
02:45 Let's do it.
02:46 Let's go, let's ride.
02:47 Let's ride.
02:49 So before we get out of here, I think it's really interesting to think about this concept
02:53 of never not working.
02:55 I think that's something that I am trying to fuel me as I continue to step into my career.
03:02 Can you talk a bit about how you maintain being a student and never getting settled
03:09 in that feeling?
03:10 I think I'm naturally always a student.
03:12 It's nice when you have moments where I'll just know stuff that I didn't know 10, 15,
03:18 20, 30 years ago, and to say it.
03:23 I would maybe think stuff years ago, and now I just say it.
03:28 If I say it, I'm normally right.
03:31 It's gone through the, it's like a streamlined process.
03:36 But yeah, I always think what I, you know, there's so much more to learn.
03:41 I've always felt like that.
03:42 So I'm excited for you.
03:45 That this is, you know, just to be cognizant of that is, you're already ahead.
03:50 Look, she said it, not me.
03:52 That's right.
03:53 Now before we get you out of here for our last question, I need to know what makes a
03:57 perfect pop song, because you are the one who knows.
04:00 I mean, you just keep sifting, keep digging.
04:05 Look, there's plenty of people you could ask down this red carpet tonight.
04:10 I don't think anyone knows what perfect is, but I really enjoy the challenge and
04:18 the puzzle of it.
04:20 It's a puzzle.
04:21 I think more than in the past I think of it that way, like the sections and what
04:27 journey is it taking you on, what's the emotion, what's the unexpected, and what
04:34 is like, you don't have to think, you're in.
04:37 Right.
04:38 Yeah.
04:39 So it's probably not very helpful.
04:40 No, it's helpful to me.
04:41 I don't know what the answer is.
04:42 It's helpful to me.
04:43 You need hooks.
04:44 You got one.
04:45 Hooks and intrigue, and that's a good start.
04:49 Yeah.
04:50 I mean, ba-dum, ba-dum, I hear it and I know.
04:53 That's the hook.
04:54 Look at us fusing, phasing together.
04:57 I wish you all the best.
04:59 Thank you so much.
05:00 You're winning already, and have a great Grammys night.
05:03 See you soon.
05:04 Thank you.
05:05 Thank you, Rolling Stone.
05:06 (whooshing)
