00:00 How does it feel to be back here at the Grammys?
00:02 It's always great to be here. It's an amazing night and you know just to be able to see all these artists
00:09 and you know the nominees like congratulations to everyone. Music is just amazing.
00:14 So look at what music does, bringing everyone together. It's amazing.
00:18 I just watched The Greatest Night in Pop, the new documentary you're in, about when you recorded We Are the World.
00:23 What has the fan response to that documentary been like for you so far?
00:26 Oh my god, my phone has not stopped blowing up, really. Like from all over the world.
00:30 Like people are just texting, DMing me, sending messages, like writing on my website letters
00:37 and I just watched it and oh my god. No, it's been really incredible. I had no idea.
00:41 Because I hadn't seen the documentary until Monday. I didn't even know. Yeah.
00:47 What was your reaction when you first watched it on the big screen?
00:50 It was amazing. I loved the things that I didn't know about after I left and then towards the end I just cried.
00:59 What do you remember most about that night?
01:02 Well for one, most about that night was how nervous I was to play the American Music Awards
01:10 because it was my first time ever being a solo artist and that was a big deal because Dick Clark,
01:15 it was a big deal that I wanted them to turn the lights out because I had my glow sticks
01:20 and it's like you have to turn the lights out in order for them to work and they're like we can't do that.
01:24 It's national television. So they waited if you watched that, they waited until they went on to turn the lights off.
01:30 So it was a big deal and then you can't look in the front because you see all of these amazing people
01:34 that were in the audience. You get nervous and it's like oh my god.
01:38 So that was scary enough and then going to there, but I knew a lot, maybe half of the artists there at We Are The World,
01:47 at the taping recording, but it was a lot of fun.
01:52 The whole story of that night is just really unbelievable and it's hard to imagine that we'd be able to get artists today
01:58 together like that after a show like the American Music Awards or the Grammys.
02:02 It wouldn't happen. No. No. Everyone has too many, you've got like ten people hanging out with you
02:09 and to be told stay in the other room, just the artists, that's not going to happen.
02:14 I know. That was an interesting detail that no publicist, no managers in the room, just the artists.
02:19 Yeah, no. And it was so cool because there was no drama really.
02:22 I mean there were some things that would happen, but we were all tired.
02:25 I had been up three days before I got there and we were still out on the Purple Rain tour.
02:30 So by four o'clock or so I left. I was done.
02:34 So many iconic artists are featured in the documentary and were on the song,
02:37 but who are some new artists today that you've been loving their music?
02:42 Oh man. I'm not going to pick one or two. Of course I love Billie Eilish,
02:47 but I'm not going to pick one or two because I'm really excited about the new music that's coming out
02:53 and the change and I love that, you know, people being created and it's exciting.
02:58 We're not staying at the same place. Things are moving. So that's what I love about it.
03:03 And you have a new song coming out. What can you tell me about it?
03:06 Yeah. Gloria Estefan sang on it. It's a Celia Cruz song, a famous Celia Cruz song called Bemba Colorado
03:13 and it comes out February 23rd and the album comes out April 5th.
03:18 It's the first time I've ever done a salsa record, so I'm really excited about it because I've never done that.
03:22 I have Ruben Blades, Roberto Santarosa, Luis Enrique, Victor Manuel, Tony Sukar, Mimi Sukar, my dad, my mom.
03:29 I have a lot of people.
03:31 And you've done so many amazing collaborations over the years,
03:34 but who's one artist that you haven't gotten the chance to collaborate with yet that you'd love to?
03:38 Probably Bruno Mars. We've talked about it. Yeah, we're like, we got to do something.
03:43 So we're still talking about it. I don't know how long. I'm waiting on him now.
03:46 It's the balls in his corner.
03:48 his corner.
