BamaCentral Courtside: Alabama 99, Mississippi State 67
Transcript
00:00 >> Peter here inside Coleman Coliseum after Alabama basketball's 99 to 67
00:05 thrashing of Mississippi State to complete the series sweep.
00:09 Once again, Alabama just dominates an SEC opponent like it's nothing against
00:13 a decent Mississippi State team that will probably be an NCAA tournament team
00:17 this year.
00:18 Blake, what did you see from Alabama tonight?
00:21 >> I think the biggest thing was what Nato's talked about,
00:23 kind of like the blue collar effort that we saw.
00:26 I mean, it would be easy to look and see that they scored 99 points, but
00:29 I didn't think that the offense was really the best part about the team today.
00:33 I mean, they didn't shoot particularly well from three.
00:35 They shot about 30 something percent, which isn't,
00:38 I think it was actually their season low shooting from three in a home game.
00:43 But what you really saw was Alabama,
00:45 Nato said that they doubled up Mississippi State blue collar points.
00:48 You saw a lot of that.
00:49 You saw 20 offensive rebounds.
00:51 >> Season high.
00:52 >> A season high offensive rebounds.
00:54 Just all of the little things that they needed to do,
00:57 that led to a better effort on the defensive end,
00:59 which led to holding the Mississippi State, I think, 24 first half points.
01:03 Which has to be, I think, close to a season low for
01:06 Alabama in holding a team in the first half.
01:08 So all of the blue collar effort, Nato said that they challenged the team after,
01:13 he said they played soft earlier this week against Georgia.
01:17 Said that they absolutely answered the challenge, and
01:19 we saw that with a dominating 30 point victory tonight.
01:21 A lot of little things that Nato likes to see,
01:24 especially on the blue collar side of things.
01:26 >> Yeah, I think we saw probably Alabama's most complete performance of the season
01:29 against a power five opponent.
01:31 Probably definitely an SEC play, just kind of on both ends before.
01:35 And I think we saw some encouraging signs for Alabama moving forward.
01:39 A guy like Jaren Stevenson hitting four threes,
01:41 finishing with 15 points, I believe, or 14 points.
01:44 Brody Abbate had 14 points, a career high for him.
01:49 And so if you're starting to get scoring contributions from these type guys who
01:53 just once again shows the depth of this Alabama team and
01:56 the type of points they can put up.
01:58 But Alabama is now at the halfway point of SEC play with an eight and one record.
02:02 And I think you'd take that any day of the week if you would have said Alabama
02:05 would be eight and one halfway through SEC play.
02:07 Have some tough games coming up, starting with Auburn on Wednesday.
02:10 Blake will be there to cover it.
02:12 But from Coleman Costner tonight, that'll wrap up tonight's game.
02:15 Court side, thank you so much for watching.
