00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:05 And it all starts right now.
00:08 Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:14 I am Brad Perry.
00:15 I'm Lexi Romano.
00:16 And today's a very important day. It's November 2nd.
00:18 February 2nd.
00:19 February 2nd. Wow.
00:21 What in the world?
00:24 Did the last three months not happen? Have you skipped ahead nine months?
00:27 I don't know. What in the world? Where'd that come from?
00:29 February 2nd.
00:30 February 2nd.
00:31 Wow. And a special day to wear red.
00:33 Yes, it is. And you know, I was remiss and I forgot to actually wear red.
00:37 So I have my red heart. Thank you, Maddie.
00:39 Because today is National Heart Day.
00:41 And it is all about being aware of heart disease and just kind of bringing awareness to that.
00:47 And it's a special day to wear red.
00:50 I got my red on.
00:51 Brad did the assignment. So, yep, wearing red.
00:53 Yes, because heart health is very important to me because I had a blood clot in my heart.
00:57 And thank goodness for Dr. Rizek, who is an amazing heart surgeon, took care of me.
01:01 And that's who we are today and just bring awareness.
01:03 And that's all month long.
01:04 Yep, all month. Today is a specific day to wear red.
01:07 But, yes, all month long. So, yeah, definitely learn about it.
01:10 Google it if you don't want to.
01:11 You don't have to wear red all month long if you want to.
01:13 But just to be clear, can you see that?
01:15 You can. That would be a lot.
01:17 But, yeah, love it.
01:18 Awesome. Okay, today on the show, our resident Red Vine reviewer,
01:22 Flick Chick Vicky, who has red vines, get it, is here.
01:25 She's spilling the tea on which movies you need to get out and see and which ones to stay away from.
01:30 But look what that she has, the awesome Argyle bag.
01:33 What was the cat dragged in? I mean, what was that?
01:36 Oh, you have not--that is--tap her to her around again really quick.
01:39 That is Argyle.
01:42 So, that's the movie, Argyle, and it's about a cat.
01:45 Oh, well, I love it already.
01:47 It's a cat case. So, you can carry your cat around.
01:49 I don't know whose cat is getting in that thing.
01:52 We're going to talk about that.
01:53 My cat would not--not for a million--all the treats in the world.
01:57 Nope, wouldn't do it.
01:58 Anyways, that sounds fun.
01:59 Then if you're looking to get an early Valentine's Day dinner in this weekend,
02:03 well, you're in luck because the Coarse Restaurant is in the Mix Make Believe kitchen today.
02:08 And it looks beautiful.
02:10 So, I was reading in my little call sheet about them.
02:13 We are making an aphrodisiac menu.
02:17 So, that's what this is all about.
02:19 So, it's for all the lovers out there.
02:22 Very cool.
02:23 I like that. And I'm a hat guy through and through.
02:25 I know you are.
02:26 And the folks at Noggin Boss are here to make this day a bit bigger as we get ready for the soup bowl.
02:32 And we're going to use a really cool local company, but they're making a big splash across the nation.
02:38 Oh, I bet they are.
02:39 So, we're going to be talking with them.
02:41 That's cool.
02:42 Which is going to be really cool.
02:43 Nice. All right. I love it.
02:44 Which is nice.
02:45 We were talking that today also is Groundhog Day.
02:48 It is. A great movie and a great day.
02:51 Love it.
02:52 As I mentioned, today is Groundhog Day.
02:54 As we mentioned, today is Groundhog Day.
02:59 So, Pezzatoni Phil did not see his shadow.
03:03 What does that mean again?
03:04 That means that spring is coming early.
03:06 So, spring will be early and no heavy snow-brained bodies.
03:10 He's been doing it for 137 years.
03:13 They've been gathering together and that's the Pezzatoni Groundhog Club.
03:17 Pezzatoni Phil, yeah.
03:18 Yes, who puts this together.
03:19 And if you want to help to make sure Phil is taken care of, he is on Cameo now.
03:25 And it's $199 for you to--
03:27 $199?
03:29 --to get him to say something to you.
03:31 Yeah, loved ones on happy Groundhog Day.
03:33 Wow.
03:34 So, there you go.
03:35 Well, happy Groundhog Day, everybody.
03:36 Did I mention it's Groundhog Day today?
03:37 Oh, my gosh.
03:38 [laughter]
03:39 Well, speaking of nice weather, let's get out and enjoy it.
03:44 We've got you covered with that because all next week,
03:46 tune in every day to the Arizona Daily Mix at 9 for a chance to win a year-long membership to the Desert Botanical Garden.
03:52 This is so great.
03:53 Each day, we're going to give you a new code word to enter.
03:55 Make sure you're watching every single day at 9 here on the CW7.
04:00 I love the Desert Botanical Garden.
04:02 We were saying we're going to enter, so--
04:03 Yes, because I was out there.
04:05 I went out there yesterday to do a little story.
04:06 Yeah, how'd it go?
04:07 It was beautiful.
04:08 It was.
04:09 The weather was nice.
04:10 It was really good.
04:11 And also, you know, as you said, with the CW7 people, day two.
04:14 Day two. They haven't taken away from us yet.
04:16 Not yet.
04:17 But one thing they're not going to take away from us, and that is our trending broadcast by Gerber and Dulau,
04:21 where we travel the internet, the social media websites, our own backyard,
04:24 giving something to talk about.
04:25 And, Lexi, you're up because this fits right in--
04:28 With my life, people.
04:30 Yes, so I have to talk about this, although now I don't know where my article is.
04:33 Oh, here it is.
04:34 Sorry. All the papers in the world.
04:36 Okay, so we're talking about this because, as you all know, I am remodeling my bathroom right now,
04:40 which, if you have ever gone through a remodel, I feel for you.
04:44 It is such a pain.
04:46 And I was looking up, like, information on remodels because we're trying to figure out what we want to do,
04:51 like how modern do we want, blah, blah, blah.
04:53 And I came across an article that was talking about the typical range of people remodeling their bathrooms.
04:58 This is wild to me.
05:00 Just for one bathroom, one bathroom remodel, the typical range is $6,624 to $16,000, you guys.
05:10 That's it?
05:11 That is blowing my mind. That's it?
05:13 Yeah. I spent $35,000 on my bathroom.
05:16 No, you did not.
05:18 No, you did not.
05:20 Get out of here.
05:21 No, I did, I did, I did. I've seen them, I've seen them.
05:23 That's for one bathroom.
05:25 So I will say we are definitely not spending that.
05:27 It is a lot less than that.
05:29 But, yeah, that blew my mind.
05:31 So, yeah, people out there getting some bougie bathrooms.
05:33 Are you doing it yourself or are you having someone do it?
05:35 No, oh, no, no, no. We have somebody doing it for us.
05:37 You don't mess with water and pipes.
05:42 No.
05:43 No? All right.
05:44 Well, hey, listen, the WM Phoenix Open is next week and there's a new VIP area for you to watch golf,
05:50 but it's not on the course.
05:52 It's the DraftKings Sports Club.
05:53 Cool.
05:54 [MUSIC]
06:02 Look at this.
06:03 I'm already a winner because I step into the DraftKings Sports Book and I'm talking to a brat.
06:08 Never with a winner, I like winners.
06:10 Let's talk about this.
06:11 This is really cool.
06:12 This is brand new here to the TPC area, but it's not new in the DraftKings pretty much restaurant and booking together.
06:20 Right.
06:21 So, in mid-October, DraftKings opened a similar sports book at Wrigley Field back in June.
06:26 So, we're the second kind of flagship property for DraftKings Sports Book.
06:30 I like it.
06:31 And what I love is that if you're not a bettor, you still can come in and enjoy some great food and watch games.
06:35 Absolutely, yeah.
06:36 So, the way the sports book's laid out, the veterinarian's 20 and over, restaurant, patio, bar, all ages,
06:43 and we see a ton of business, obviously, on college football Saturdays, NFL Sundays, and a lot of business during the week.
06:49 And the food is great.
06:50 We're going to be tasting some of that right now.
06:51 But also, you have a bar that's all ready to go for you.
06:54 Great bar, really good selection of liquors, 12 beers on tap, great wine selection.
06:58 And what I'd like, too, is that when you come in, you can do some betting.
07:02 We're going to talk about that in a little bit.
07:03 But the other part, too, is that this is really a staple now for DraftKings being in Arizona.
07:08 Am I right?
07:09 It is, yeah.
07:10 And a staple for DraftKings, also a great staple for us with TPC Scottsdale.
07:14 Just one more place for our guests to go and enjoy a great food and beverage before or after the round of golf.
07:18 I like that.
07:19 All right.
07:20 Let's go ahead and check out some food.
07:21 Let's go.
07:22 Great.
07:23 Wow.
07:30 OK, Brad, I'm looking right now, and this isn't your typical bar food, is it?
07:34 No, it's an elevated bar food.
07:35 That's kind of what we are.
07:37 We kind of take a sports bar and elevate it both from a viewing experience and from a culinary and drink experience.
07:42 Oh, man, I love this.
07:43 Look, you've got dip here.
07:44 What's that?
07:45 We've got a chorizo queso dip there to get things started.
07:49 Over here we have the spicy tuna dip, really, really good.
07:53 Machaca tacos with some braised beef here.
07:56 And that's kind of one of our go-to items, the carnivore pizza.
07:59 Oh, my gosh.
08:00 Looks so delicious.
08:01 And, again, it's a very friendly menu for the whole family to enjoy.
08:04 Whole family, absolutely, yeah.
08:05 I like it.
08:06 OK, I know you guys got the bar back here.
08:07 You've got a couple of great cocktails.
08:09 Margaritas always go great.
08:10 Yeah, not for the entire family.
08:12 No, but what I love is that you have a special drink because there's something special going to be happening here for the WM Open, and that is?
08:21 That's the 19th Hole Spritz.
08:23 I'm glad you mentioned the WM Phoenix Open.
08:26 So kicking off here in a couple weeks.
08:29 Our role during the tournament will be we'll be the DraftKings 19th Hole.
08:34 From a hospitality standpoint, Monday and Tuesday of tournament week, we'll be open to the public.
08:39 It's free admission to tournaments.
08:40 So anyone that comes to tournament, more than welcome to come in here, have some food, have some drinks, place a bet.
08:45 And then Wednesday through Saturday, we kind of navigate to a hospitality venue.
08:49 It's ticketed only.
08:50 And then back in on Sunday, we're back to open to the public.
08:55 Anyone can come and place a bet on Sunday for the big game on Super Bowl Sunday.
08:58 And then, obviously, a super party in the evening.
09:00 There you go.
09:01 I love that, having a special ticket here.
09:03 And with that ticket, I understand there's food and drink and just a great time to be on the 19th Hole.
09:08 Great time.
09:09 Every afternoon, DJs, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday afternoon, including Steve Aoki on Thursday afternoon.
09:15 So great draw.
09:16 Should be a great time.
09:17 Got to get those tickets.
09:18 All right.
09:19 I like how you said Monday and Tuesday you actually can go back and do some betting.
09:22 So can we go check out the betting area?
09:24 Yeah, let's do it.
09:25 Let's go.
09:26 All right, Brad, this is pretty cool.
09:29 This is the betting area, and it's not your old man's betting area.
09:32 This is nice and beautiful in here.
09:34 No, pretty cool.
09:35 We get a lot of comments of, hey, it's just like Vegas in Scottsdale.
09:38 So we've got 32 mobile kiosks, cash only on those, and you can bet on everything imaginable, baseball, football, basketball.
09:47 If you're into Gaelic football, place a bet on Gaelic football, ping pong, rowing, literally everything.
09:53 And also six over-the-counter kiosks as well.
09:56 I like that.
09:57 And what I love, too, is that if you can't get in here, you can also download the DraftKings app and, of course, play some really cool games there.
10:04 I'm calling them games because they are free games they have.
10:07 We were talking to Johnny about that, which is really cool.
10:10 But here you've got the food, you've got the betting, and so a great thing to come out and do.
10:14 And that 19th hole for the WM Phoenix Open.
10:18 Yeah, I mean, we look at this as an entertainment venue, even more so during the WM Phoenix Open with the 19th hole.
10:24 We'll be open here.
10:26 Place bets Monday, Tuesday, tournament week, and also on Sunday before the big game.
10:29 All right, Brad, that's awesome.
10:31 And of course, if you want more information about the DraftKings sportsbook, you can head over to azdailymix.com.
10:38 Awesome.
10:39 That's kind of what I was going to do.
10:57 It is the month of love, and we are so excited to be getting a sneak peek at a particularly romantic menu from local restaurant, Coarse.
11:05 We have Chef Cory here to tell us all about it.
11:06 Welcome, Chef.
11:07 Thank you so much for having me.
11:08 So we were just talking a little bit.
11:09 You are not only the chef, you are a partner as well.
11:12 Correct.
11:13 So tell everybody a little bit about Coarse, if they haven't heard of you guys.
11:15 So Coarse, we just opened on Scottsdale and Shea about actually in May.
11:19 But we specialize in multi-course dining.
11:21 So on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, guests can come in, we do a five-course choice of, or they can come in on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays, and we do a ten-course.
11:29 And then if that wasn't enough, we also have a brunch.
11:33 We do a six-course brunch on Sundays.
11:34 Six-course brunch.
11:35 This is incredible.
11:36 I mean, I love the concept, and obviously the name comes from this idea of like Coarse-ed out plates, which is really cool.
11:42 And I'm, you know, just drawn to all of these beautiful plates here on our table.
11:47 And I am noticing they're a little bit smaller portion.
11:49 Can you talk to that?
11:50 Is that because it's so many different courses?
11:53 Correct.
11:54 So this is our, part of our Valentine's Day menu.
11:56 So this is going to be nine courses.
11:57 We're actually going to have it on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
12:00 So we've got limited reservations available for Valentine's Day, the actual day, but we still have availability on Tuesday and Thursday.
12:07 And this is all starting, not this coming week, but the following week, correct?
12:10 Correct.
12:11 Okay, so we have your prefix menu.
12:13 Tell me a little bit about what we have here on the table.
12:15 So on the menu itself, though, we wanted to specialize in something with aphrodisiacs.
12:18 Because, I mean, it's a food of love.
12:20 Absolutely.
12:21 Why not?
12:22 It comes from the stem word of Aphrodite, so goddess of love.
12:24 Yep.
12:25 So we just thought it would be nice to incorporate all these different ingredients, like artichokes, beets, avocados, asparagus, obviously chocolate and strawberries.
12:31 Are those all considered foods that are aphrodisiacs?
12:34 These are all aphrodisiacs.
12:35 I did not know.
12:36 Avocados?
12:37 Avocados.
12:38 Wow, I did not know that.
12:39 And garlic, actually.
12:40 So all of these are scattered throughout our menu as well.
12:42 Okay, you can knock me over with a feather right now.
12:44 Because I feel like garlic is normally the thing they tell you to avoid.
12:48 Right.
12:49 But now, okay, with a little bit in there, it's going to be the thing to go to.
12:51 All right, so what do we have here in terms of the dishes?
12:54 So this is like our third course right here.
12:56 So this is just an example.
12:57 So this is our Corvina bass from our French chula seafood.
13:00 So on this, we also incorporated northern white bean, which is actually an aphrodisiac as well, artichokes and garlic, and then it's cascaded with some carrot puree.
13:08 Delicious.
13:09 And we love chula seafood.
13:10 Everything that they get is so fresh, beautiful quality.
13:13 It's amazing.
13:14 So that looks delicious.
13:15 They're great friends of mine.
13:16 Then, just an example, this is our chocolate-covered strawberry.
13:19 So at the bottom, we have a strawberry granita, a marmalade of strawberry, and then the powder on top is actually chocolate that we mimic, and then some crumbled brownie and then a flexible ganache coming through.
13:30 Delicious.
13:31 And it's kind of garnished with a little bit of mint.
13:32 Oh, gosh, that looks so beautiful.
13:34 Okay, and then we have another plate over here that you're going to finish plating for us.
13:36 So walk us through what this one is.
13:37 So this is actually our, this is a beet stroganoff.
13:40 Not a beet stroganoff, but beets is actually --
13:43 A beet stroganoff.
13:44 That's so cool.
13:45 Something a little bit different, but beets are very high in nitric oxide, so that actually helps vasculate the vessels, and actually it also promotes testosterone.
13:53 Oh, interesting.
13:54 So beet is a very good effort.
13:56 Okay, cool.
13:57 So tell me what we're doing here.
13:58 So already on the plate itself, I already have maitake mushroom roasted off, a duck's tail of maitake mushroom, which is also called hen of the wood.
14:04 Okay.
14:05 Roasted golden beet, and then also just some beet for garnish.
14:07 Delicious.
14:08 Over here on this side, I just have a -- so to make the stroganoff kind of come together, this is actually roasted golden beets pureed with sour cream, since sour cream is one of the main ingredients for stroganoff.
14:19 Okay, delicious.
14:20 So as you're doing this, tell everybody where they can find more information if they want to make a reservation for this coming week for Valentine's Day, because I'm sure people will jump on that.
14:30 Oh, yeah.
14:31 So we are on open tables now, which makes it a little bit easier for everyone to book reservations.
14:36 But on our website at porcerestaurantaz.com, they can book reservations online right there.
14:43 Okay, nice and easy.
14:44 I love that.
14:45 So just go to the website.
14:46 So you're putting everything all together in that beautiful sauce, and now what are you going to do with it?
14:50 So these noodles are actually beets that we spiral out and cut.
14:53 No way.
14:54 And then blanch it.
14:55 This is all beets.
14:56 It's all beets.
14:57 Very cool.
14:58 Then this, just kind of come down through the plate.
14:59 Okay, I'll bring this over here to you.
15:01 All right, so we're going to wrap as you're doing this real quick, because they're telling me we've got to get out of here.
15:05 But this is how it would come looking, and then are you just going to garnish that top a little bit with that beautiful --
15:09 Yep, just a couple garnishes, and actually it also gets a beef tortellini.
15:16 This will kind of come down.
15:18 All right, so this is kind of one of the dishes that you're going to get in one of the many courses when you go to course.
15:22 This looks so gorgeous.
15:23 Thank you so much, Chef.
15:24 All right, coming up, check out what Wally is showing us in another Wally's Weekend Drive.
15:29 [music]
15:47 Well, hi, and welcome to another one of Wally's Weekend Drives.
15:49 Man, I'll tell you what, the weather is broken.
15:51 It's beautiful out, and the only thing more beautiful is Myra Reynosa right here.
15:57 And maybe this 2024 LC500 Hybrid also, because the two of them go together well, as you can see.
16:04 Right, Myra?
16:05 Yes, we do.
16:06 It's a beautiful car.
16:07 Yeah, yeah, what were you telling me before?
16:08 If this was a man, you'd marry it, right?
16:09 I would.
16:11 Hey, if it was a woman, I'd marry it, too.
16:13 So I definitely feel the passion in this car, and Lexus did a great job.
16:18 So let's check it out.
16:19 First thing you're going to notice, this thing is low and wide, and it handles really, really good.
16:23 And you see the Lexus logo right here?
16:25 That's actually the sonar for the dynamic cruise control that keeps everything apart on the freeway
16:31 and makes you not to run over the guy in front of you.
16:34 Also, if you see the big Lexus grille right here, and that's all fine and dandy,
16:39 but when you look here, triple beam headlights right here.
16:42 Now, triple beam headlights definitely work for sure, and they have adaptive lights,
16:47 so when you're turning in and out of your driveway at night, it actually lights the way around the corner.
16:52 So that's a really big deal for me.
16:54 So when you look underneath the hood, what you're going to find is a hybrid motor and a V6 motor in there,
17:00 making just a little over 300 horsepower combined,
17:04 and it's rolling on 21-inch alloy wheels right here that are wrapped in these Michelin Pilot Sport S tires
17:12 that are Z-rated, meaning that they will go up to 160 miles an hour.
17:16 We don't recommend that with this car, definitely not on surface streets for sure,
17:20 but it can do it, and the tires will stay on.
17:23 Now, Myra, when we walk back here to the side, the first thing we notice here is the side mirror,
17:27 which is electronic and folds in also, because when I park in the garage at night,
17:32 I need a little bit of extra room, so it folds in, and you've got your blind spot control in it.
17:37 But the cool thing is really, if you look right here, you see aerodynamic-wise,
17:42 even the door handle is smooth.
17:45 You press that right there, and that's how you get in.
17:47 Now, when you open the door and look in, Myra, this is like your living room.
17:52 Man, I'll tell you, this is nice, huh?
17:54 It's really nice.
17:55 Yeah, it looks nice.
17:56 Okay, so hit the starter button there.
17:59 Let's see what we've got.
18:00 Let's light this thing up.
18:02 Okay, so the first thing we notice is that smart steering wheel comes right back to you, huh?
18:06 It does.
18:07 So it's going to give you all your buttons to control the vehicle.
18:10 That way you can focus more on driving and safety.
18:13 Yes, it's important.
18:14 In fact, everything is on the steering wheel, and also if you're in Sport Plus mode, in Manual mode,
18:20 you have paddle shifters on both sides to shift the transmission up and down,
18:24 and it is a 10-speed transmission that equates out to that 28.2 miles per gallon that I've been getting.
18:31 Yes.
18:32 And the one thing that I really like about it, it's got almost 600 miles of range for a fuel tank,
18:37 and that is, like, unheard of.
18:39 Now, if you're backing out of the driveway, one thing that we discovered is that panoramic view around with the camera.
18:45 Yeah, the 360 panoramic view monitor.
18:48 So it will give you a view around the entire vehicle, so you can take a look.
18:53 That's right.
18:54 So if you're looking to make sure that you don't have any kids' bicycles or any toys laying in there
18:59 or something that you don't want to run over, you definitely can see it.
19:02 Now, let's jump out here and take a look here at the back at the same time,
19:06 because one of the things that we like, besides the carbon fiber kick panels right here on the door sills,
19:12 those are really great, the roof is also carbon fiber, so it doesn't show up, but you can definitely see it.
19:19 Back here is a spoiler that pops up either manually or at speed, it pops up when you need it.
19:25 But let's take a look in here real quick, because you're going to see in the back,
19:29 there's not a whole lot of room back here, but I'm guessing there's room for two sets of golf clubs right there,
19:33 is what it looks like to me, and that's kind of how I measure things.
19:36 If you look here, you'll also see that's where access to the battery is, and it doesn't have a spare tire,
19:42 so you're going to be calling AAA on this for sure.
19:45 Now, Mayra, $113,350 MSRP for this car.
19:51 Yes.
19:52 You're one of the main people in the Internet Department.
19:54 Is there any kind of incentives going on right now?
19:57 Yes, we have, I mean, every month is going to change, but we definitely always have great incentives.
20:02 We're going to give you the best price as well around our dealership or around the Valley, so come give me a call.
20:09 That's right, give her a call, and if she doesn't help you out, make sure and talk to Brett Adkinson.
20:14 That's her boss right there.
20:16 Brett will take care of you for sure.
20:18 So, again, we're at Superstition Springs, Lexus, just off the 60 freeway out in Mesa, Arizona.
20:23 Come down, see Mayra, test drive one of these LC's.
20:27 You'll really dig it.
20:28 [music]
20:38 Part one, thank you.
20:40 Thank you, Superstition Springs, Lexus, for sponsoring that segment.
20:42 For more information, go to azdailymix.com.
20:46 [music]
20:51 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
20:54 [music]
20:57 Hey, welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
20:59 You want to come back and check out the finished dish.
21:02 Whoa.
21:03 First restaurant, look at that.
21:05 Oh, my gosh.
21:06 Beautiful, right?
21:07 Yes, it does look delicious.
21:08 So, yeah, just to finish it off, we just garnished it, you know, obviously with the beef short rib tortellini and just kind of different forms of raw beet as well and then chive as well.
21:16 Delicious.
21:17 It looks delicious.
21:18 Thank you, thank you.
21:19 So, you know what that would be perfect for?
21:20 Watching a little bit of CW7.
21:22 That's it.
21:23 Yeah, that's right.
21:24 Because we have a new lineup here at the CW7, so grab your seat on the couch and enjoy some laughs and more with us today starting this afternoon with two hours of your favorite funny man, Steve Harvey, at 4 with "Family Feud" followed by "The Big Bang Theory," bringing on the laughs at 6 and 630.
21:39 And there's a new CW prime time lineup.
21:42 Get ready.
21:43 Here we go.
21:44 We have Penn and Taylor "Fool Us" at 7 coming on, followed by "Unlikely Pair of Detectives" and all new "Wild Cards" at 8.
21:50 Then it's your man again at 9.
21:52 It goes into mom at 10.
21:54 And it's all smiles here at Channel CW7.
21:57 Oh, yeah, where we like to say it's all good.
22:00 It's all good.
22:01 All right, well, have you ever wanted to take a trip to the sky?
22:04 Well, the cool spot right here in the valley allows you to do just that.
22:08 This is Rainbow Riders.
22:09 Take a look.
22:11 [MUSIC PLAYING]
22:14 So I just came back from one of the most magical experiences I have had here in Arizona.
22:31 And if you are thinking it, you probably guessed it.
22:33 It's a hot air balloon ride.
22:35 I'm standing here with Scott, who is the owner of Rainbow Riders.
22:38 Scott, thank you so much for having us today.
22:39 Oh, you bet.
22:40 Thanks a lot for coming out.
22:41 We appreciate it.
22:42 It's truly magical.
22:43 When I say that word, I'm not overemphasizing.
22:46 I really mean it.
22:47 It is serene and peaceful and just so beautiful to be up in the air like that.
22:51 Tell me a little bit about Rainbow Riders and kind of what sets you guys apart.
22:55 Sure.
22:56 It's really hard to describe a hot air balloon ride until you do it.
22:59 Obviously, you can see that after your flight this morning.
23:02 But, you know, Rainbow Riders started about 40 years ago.
23:05 I actually was at the very first balloon event in Albuquerque when I was 12 years old.
23:09 That's how I got started.
23:10 That was my first experience in hot air ballooning.
23:14 When I was finishing up my degree at the university, a good friend of mine had a balloon and taught me how to fly.
23:18 I did it recreationally and kind of competed across the nation.
23:22 And then decided to see if I could make a go at it.
23:25 We started off with a two-passenger balloon.
23:27 And now today we sit here with 47 balloons, three different states, 100 employees,
23:33 and we've been flying 45,000 people a year.
23:35 So, it's been a heck of a ride.
23:37 It sounds like it.
23:38 A heck of a ride is a great way to put it because taking a ride with you guys is such an incredible experience.
23:43 So, I got to experience it this morning.
23:45 But for those who haven't done it quite yet, tell us what it's like.
23:49 You know, everybody, I swear, 50 to 60 percent of the people all say, "Oh, I'm scared of heights. I can't do that."
23:55 And stuff like that.
23:56 And then two or three minutes into the flight, they'll walk around the basket going, "Hey, this is kind of cool. I like this."
24:01 So, you know, it's the perception and the reality of the two things are very different.
24:06 It's very smooth. Motion sickness is not an issue.
24:10 And then we're floating around. We're floating. We're truly just floating.
24:13 The only noise that you'll hear is that of the burners.
24:17 You'll hear cars or you'll have people, you know, saying hi to you.
24:22 Or people from the ground talking to you and stuff like that.
24:25 I usually find out when the coffee's ready.
24:27 Oh, okay.
24:28 So, you know, but just floating. You know, we fly the balloon by going to different altitudes.
24:33 There's different directions of wind, different currents, just like what's in a lake, but just in the air.
24:38 And that's how we do our flights.
24:40 And I love that you use the word peaceful because it truly is.
24:43 When you are up there, it is such a peaceful experience.
24:46 I felt incredibly safe the entire time I was there.
24:49 And Patrick, our pilot, was so informative.
24:52 He kept us, you know, he kept telling us everything we needed to know the whole time.
24:57 Kept us very well informed. And it was peaceful. It was calm. It was beautiful.
25:01 And I know you were saying earlier that you've grown so much.
25:04 In fact, we're standing in your new facility now here in Glendale.
25:07 So tell us a little bit about this beautiful new facility you have.
25:10 You know, this is, we were in Deer Valley, but the growth of the North Valley has making us change to different flight areas.
25:18 So we've designed and built this building, hopefully learning more and more from every time we build or move into a building.
25:24 So we've got about 15,000 square feet where we have what I call the balloon port in the back here.
25:30 We've got a great assembly room, retail shops, nice bathrooms.
25:33 You know, a real place for people to come and meet instead of just meeting in a parking lot.
25:38 You know, they come early, they gather, they talk, then they have a little bit of champagne, then they have a good time and possibly shop.
25:44 So, you know, there's all those types of things going.
25:46 So we're really, really pleased this is going into our second month here in this building.
25:51 You know, we're very, we're very dedicated to hot air ballooning, very passionate about it.
25:59 Our pilots, our crews, our staff, our administrative and management team.
26:03 And our biggest thing is safety.
26:05 We even have our own in-house pilot training program so we can bring people up and teach them the way that we like seeing it.
26:11 So, you know, this is what we feel we bring the best to the people.
26:15 And 40 years, five stars, I'm really, really proud of what we're doing and how we're doing it.
26:19 You guys definitely have the reviews to back it up.
26:22 And every single person who was on the flight with us today kept saying this was incredible.
26:27 This was so worth it. We had an amazing time.
26:29 So for everybody who wants to book with you guys, tell them where they can find you.
26:33 Great. You know, the best bet is we still have people that answer the phones seven days a week, 14 hours a day.
26:40 And they're welcome to give us a call.
26:42 Of course, they can go to our website at RainbowRiders.com and riders is spelled R-Y-D-E-R-S.
26:48 And if you don't want to talk to anybody, you can book the ride online and everything too.
26:52 So go on to our website, get you a lot of information.
26:55 Give us a call. We'll get your questions answered and we'd love to get you up flying.
26:58 Yes, you're not going to regret it. It's an amazing experience.
27:01 Well, Scott, thank you for having us in today.
27:03 It was our pleasure. Thanks for coming out and we look forward to the next flight.
27:06 Absolutely.
27:08 [Music]
27:21 OK, the quiz question for this morning is who's 70 years old?
27:34 Hey, watch your mouth. I don't want those smart aleck answers.
27:38 I was serious when I said who's 70 years old.
27:41 And Joe Cusack from the Rotary Club and a number of other positions is here to answer the question
27:48 because there's a couple of groups that you're recognizing this week, aren't you?
27:53 That's true. And thankfully, I'm not 70 years old, although I am pushing it.
27:57 So not only is the Parada del Sol 70 years old, 1954.
28:01 Wait, wait, wait. Now there are people from Cincinnati who have no idea what you just said.
28:05 The Parada del Sol.
28:07 So Scottsdale has had for 70 years now the most western town and they have had a parade that precedes a rodeo.
28:16 And so the Parada del Sol parade and the Parada del Sol rodeo.
28:20 And up until maybe 10 years or so ago, if you didn't have a horse, you weren't in the parade.
28:25 It's changed a little bit since then, but it's now 70 years old.
28:29 That's also nice. I'm sorry. Go ahead.
28:31 I know what I was going to say, that the parade, just the very fact that it's 70 years old,
28:36 that is older than the Fiesta Ball parade.
28:39 Correct.
28:41 Another one of the great events here.
28:43 But there's Veterans Day parades, St. Patrick's Day parade.
28:46 But Parada del Sol not only is kind of a senior, but it has decided, well, maybe there were just too many horses.
28:57 So you have floats this year, one of them recognizing the other 70-year-old participant.
29:03 Correct. And so that would be the Wallace and Ladmo show, which is fantastic.
29:08 Wallace and Ladmo show, as you know, I'm sure, started in 1954.
29:12 I grew up watching you and Wallace and Ladmo and everyone else.
29:15 And you were on the show and actually got a Ladmo badge.
29:18 I was. I was. I was on it several times and it was great. I was a little kid.
29:22 Yeah. There are people right now saying, where does Joe live?
29:25 I want to know where the Ladmo badge is.
29:28 Now, Joe, you are not only Rotary Club Scottsdale member, but also the glamour of driving a parade float.
29:37 Correct. That's high crimes there. Yes.
29:40 Did you volunteer for that position?
29:42 I did.
29:43 Would you do it again?
29:45 I did again. Yes. This is the second year.
29:47 So, and, you know, no one was killed on the first time around. So we'll try it again.
29:51 Well, what nobody knows and perhaps most people did not know that Wallace and Ladmo float is going to be featured not only on Sundays here on Channel 7 as a program, the reruns of the comedy.
30:05 But Saturday, Parade of Del Sol, there will be a float that I'll be on.
30:12 Yes, you are.
30:13 As a part of the Wallace and Ladmo show all those years. But I will be joined by Aunt Maude, one of the well-known senior characters of the show and pretty successful rock and roll star, Hubcap.
30:29 Very true.
30:30 He lost his wheels, but he will be on the float with me.
30:34 See, and I listened to Hubcap when I was a kid. I didn't know any better. And it was fantastic.
30:39 Tell me about, though, the parade beyond the fact that I'm doing all this self-promotion.
30:45 What else should we be watching for if we're on the sidelines watching as part of the audience?
30:54 Well, you know, there's about 170 floats, I think, this year. It's fantastic.
31:00 How long is the parade supposed to last?
31:03 About two hours. Don't worry, Pat, we're in the front. So you'll be out of there.
31:07 OK, starting when?
31:09 So it starts at 10 o'clock. It rides through Old Town Scottsdale. And I think everybody in the parade takes about 20, 25 minutes to actually get through the parade.
31:19 This is exciting for me because Wallace and Lad and I, when they were still with us, got a chance to be in the front of Double Soul.
31:30 Sometimes they wanted us to ride horses. Gerald said, "Are you out of your mind?" But it's kind of a homecoming for me.
31:38 I'm glad. Well, we're very, very happy to have you. We're very honored to have you there. And we're not going to try to put you on a horse.
31:43 It'll be the Wallace and Lad edition of the front of Double Soul this Saturday. See you there. Ho, ho, ha, ha.
31:51 [MUSIC]
32:04 All right, the big game is next week. And Noggin Boss has the hats for those who want to let people know who they're cheering for in a big way because they're big old hats there.
32:13 So Gabe, how are you?
32:14 Doing great, man. Good to see you. Thank you.
32:16 Last time we had you here was actually coming up before the Super Bowl last year or the big game last year.
32:21 That's right.
32:22 Which was really neat. But this year is really important to you because you just got back from the licensing convention, which now you have full right for this in a way.
32:30 We do. It's been a wild year and we have full NFL licensing for all 32 teams. We'll be at the Super Bowl selling, decorating all this. And it's going to be just so much fun.
32:40 Yeah. All right. Let's go back a little bit because this was all born right here at GCU. And now look at you.
32:47 It's been great. We love the partnership we have with GCU. We get to employ a lot of their students and help with all the programs they're doing.
32:54 And it's just fun to do something here in our backyard in Phoenix.
32:57 OK, let's talk about, of course, the big Noggins that we got here. And we see that they are going strong.
33:03 You've got the teams that are going, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
33:10 And everyone's happy right now. I know neither is Maddie because they knocked our teams out on the Lions.
33:17 And she was the Baltimore. I forget what they're called. Ravens.
33:24 But you got these already to go. You actually have the official hats here, too, for them.
33:28 And it's not just this. You're actually carrying a lot of colleges, a lot of different sports.
33:32 Actually, I'm going to be putting this one on right now because we have the Open. And that's where I've seen a lot of these at.
33:38 That's right. Yeah. I know this is just a really fun time of year because not only does the Super Bowl happen here in the backyard,
33:43 we have the Waste Management, Thunderbirds. We've got charities. We've got, you know, everyone just wanting to have fun out there.
33:49 And what better way than to have some sun protection, but also have fun with your Noggins.
33:54 So you've got two on right now that are very interesting here. Yes. This one has sparkles on it.
34:00 So we got a little bit of bling going on. A little new touch to the hats.
34:04 We're calling this the Lady Boss. The Lady Boss. That's right.
34:06 So these will be coming. And we also have some bright new colors coming as well.
34:11 So this was pretty cool. You're telling me that you actually sent some over to the Kansas City Chiefs management and team.
34:18 And they were pretty exciting, weren't they? We did.
34:20 So, you know, there's been a little bit of hype for some reason with, you know, some of the people up in that, you know, family and box.
34:26 So we'll see. You may you may see some Kansas City Lady Noggins floating around.
34:30 What made you guys do this? And what was like the whole thing of getting it started, especially with Shark Tank and everything?
34:35 There's just been nothing new in the sports arena and nothing high quality.
34:39 So we wanted to come to the market with something that people could express themselves,
34:43 bring smiles and just a lot of joy to the things that they're already passionate about.
34:47 So it's been a lot of fun. And what I'd love to is that you can do custom orders and you're pretty quick.
34:51 You got a great team over there that can touch some order items for them and everything.
34:54 But right now, if people are looking to get it for their team, that's coming up week, you're available right now.
34:59 And you're saying just head to the website. That's right. Nogginboss.com is the best place to get these and put your orders in right now,
35:05 because literally they are just flying and it's going to be so fun next week to watch these everywhere.
35:10 OK, as a lady, would you would you wear one of these? Oh, absolutely. You're wearing it now.
35:14 Absolutely. Vikings fan. They got a Vikings one. Purple. Beautiful. Amazing. Love it. Got to represent.
35:21 Oh, man, these are really good. I'll tell you, it's not a loss. And again, going strong with these.
35:26 What we love is that you're local here. You're helping the students out. And that's really important to you, isn't it?
35:30 It is again. Being an alumni from GCU, like we just love the partnership, love giving back.
35:34 They get real life experience for their education. And again, it's really fun to work with a lot of these teams, athletes and celebrities.
35:41 There you go. All right. You got to get your noggin covered with your favorite team or just with some fun right there by heading over to the Nogginboss.com
35:49 or you can head over to AZDailyMix.com for more information. All right.
35:53 Hey, after the break, see what we have going on tomorrow on the show.
35:57 Oh, man, what a great show. Another one. Another CW7 Arizona Daily Mix show down and ready for some giveaways, right?
36:20 Absolutely. Yes. So we're doing something awesome, which is we are hanging out at the Desert Botanical Gardens.
36:25 And we want you guys to come with us. So all next week, tune in every day to the Arizona Daily Mix at 9 for a chance to win a yearlong membership to the Desert Botanical Garden.
36:34 Each day we'll give you a new code word to enter. Make sure you're watching every day at 9 a.m. next week.
36:40 Make sure you look for that word. We're going to give it to you.
36:43 I love it. And we, of course, have a new lineup here on the CW7.
36:48 And it all starts with two hours of your funny man, of course, Steve Harvey with Family Feud, followed by the Big Bang Theory bringing on the laughs at 6 and 638.
36:58 Then it's our new CW primetime lineup. Get ready for magic with Penn and Teller Fool Us at 7, followed by Unlikely Pair of Detectives and the all new Wild Cards at 8.
37:09 Then it's your favorite funny man again at 9, followed by the funniest and craziest sitcom on TV.
37:14 They're saying, "Mom." So it's all about smiles here at the CW7 where we like to say, "It's all good."
37:20 Yeah, it is. So there you go. I'm excited for that Penn and Teller. That sounds awesome.
37:23 Yeah, actually, last night I watched the Conners and stuff. So the lineup is really good.
37:27 Oh, I was supposed to watch the kid show. I forgot. Sorry.
37:30 Kids Ruin Everything.
37:31 Yes, if you guys watched it, reach out. Let me know what it's all about.
37:33 Hey, thanks for tuning in. If you want to find out more about the show and what we've done, you can head over to aztv.com.
37:38 Absolutely, and tomorrow on the weekend edition of the Arizona Daily Mix, we're taking a look at some of our best moments from this year.
37:44 At 9.30, Theresa's up in Northern Arizona. So you've got to check that out.
37:48 See you then. Have a good day. Bye.
37:50 Content segments on the Arizona Daily Mix were provided by Gerber Injury Law and Superstition Springs Lexus.
