Najib gets reduction in jail time, fine

The Pardons Board has decided to commute convicted former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib’s jail term from 12 years to six.  According to a statement by the board, Najib will be released on Aug 23, 2028 and the fine has been reduced to RM50mil from RM210mil. 00:33 2029. Earlier, during his visit to an eatery at the Pertama shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur,

00:40 Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said that the Pardons Board had made a decision.

00:45 He said the announcement on the outcome of the pardon appeal by Najib would be made on

00:50 Friday. Najib is serving a 12-year jail sentence after being found guilty of abuse of power,

00:57 criminal breach of trust and money laundering in relation to 42 million ringgit that had

01:04 been siphoned from SRC International. Days after he started his sentence, Najib filed

01:10 an application for a pardon in September 2022.
