00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times Video Bulletin.
00:03 Chesterfield Council's Leisure Chief has said that the local authority is reviewing
00:07 the future use of a number of key community buildings in an effort to save hundreds of
00:12 thousands of pounds as it battles to balance an estimated £4 million budget deficit.
00:17 Leisure, Culture and Community Wellbeing Director Ian Waller said the review does not necessarily
00:22 mean closing buildings, but it could result in new ways of running them.
00:26 The review involves an examination of costs relating to Haslam Village Hall, the Assembly
00:31 Rooms, Revolution House, the Winding Wheel Theatre, the Visitor Information Centre and
00:36 Staveley's Healthy Living Centre, as well as sports centre operations and how savings
00:41 might be introduced with more community support with the maintenance and running of properties.
00:46 The Council, like many other struggling local authorities, has blamed uncertainty over reduced
00:51 government funding, rising inflation, the cost of living crisis, rising demands and
00:56 the impact of Covid-19 for its current financial plight.
01:02 A popular Chesterfield pub on Chatsworth Road has finally reopened under a new name.
01:07 The Mile at Brampton welcomed its first customers at the premises on Chatsworth Road.
01:11 The pub, which has a 160-year-old history, previously had been known as the Dizzy Duck
01:15 and the Old Grouse Inn, but closed permanently in August after it was sold to the Yorkshire
01:19 Pub Stuff.
01:21 The company invested almost £150,000 in the pub refurbishment and the venue was set to
01:26 open under the new name at the end of October, but just the day before the official reopening
01:30 the building was flooded due to heavy rain brought by Storm Bobette.
01:34 Gary Assell, who is director of Yorkshire Pub Stuff and the new owner of the Mile said,
01:38 "We'd just done a massive refurb on the site and were getting ready to reopen, but
01:42 we were flooded the day before.
01:44 Everything was brand new inside and we had to rip it out and start all over."
01:48 But after investing another £68,000 and two months of hard work to clear up the damage,
01:53 the Mile at Brampton has finally reopened.
01:56 The site has been a beer house since at least 1862 and was leased to Brampton Brewery around
02:00 1870 before being bought out by William Stones Brewery of Sheffield.
