Transcript
00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:08 I'd say my neck hurts.
00:13 I'd say I'm getting old. That's what I'd say.
00:18 So do you have a crink or a crink?
00:20 Is it a kink or a crink?
00:22 A kink in your neck?
00:23 Kink in your neck? Alright, you got a kink in your neck.
00:25 That's the same as when you bump your head on something. Do you say you conked your head or you clonked your head?
00:31 I'll clonk.
00:32 Thank you! Josh says clonk.
00:34 Clonk is not a thing.
00:36 Yeah, he has no idea.
00:37 He's wrong.
00:38 Exactly, but we have an idea what this show is and it's the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:42 And it's all white.
00:43 Yes, it's all white.
00:45 Oh my goodness, I'm Brad Perry.
00:48 And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:49 Today on the show, Barrio Queen has opened a new location in Arizona and I was able to check it out and taste, well I didn't taste all the amazing food, I tasted a little bit, I will be honest.
00:58 You smelled it.
00:59 I smelled it.
01:00 You tasted it through your nose.
01:01 We had some drink offers too.
01:02 I'll bet you tasted those.
01:03 And where this is at is pretty cool too.
01:05 I was going to say, where is this location? You just showed a little bit and I want to...
01:08 Are we not going to say?
01:10 We're not going to say.
01:11 We're keeping you in suspense.
01:12 We're going to make it a surprise.
01:13 Yes, yes.
01:14 Did you get that?
01:18 Also, if you are looking to head up north, northwest, in fact, the Gold Rush days are coming to Wickenburg and we are getting a look at what's going on this year.
01:27 Yeah, it's pretty good there.
01:28 It's fun.
01:29 I love going to Wickenburg. We've done it a couple of times.
01:30 Yeah, you've been up there for the show?
01:32 Not for the show we've done, but I didn't go to Gold Rush. Just going up there in general is really cool.
01:36 Yeah, just to visit the town. Very cool.
01:37 Plus, knowing some self-defense is important. Peaceful Warrior Martial Arts and Healing Center is here with some tips to make sure you are prepared in any situation.
01:47 I love that. You know what, truly, that's really important not to at all be trite. It's actually truly, truly important sometimes, especially for women, to know just a couple little simple moves could potentially save your life.
02:01 Yeah, and especially as the weather is getting nice and women are getting out and walking by themselves.
02:05 Running, hiking, yeah.
02:06 It's so important.
02:07 Really, really being aware and knowing some little tips. It's great.
02:12 It is hook day!
02:14 Yes, it is.
02:15 And, Yesterday, you actually did a great little thing. What was this?
02:18 You know, I had such an amazing opportunity to go and speak last night at a women's event about media, which is obviously what we do here.
02:26 We are in media.
02:27 Exactly.
02:28 And, I got to go last night and chat with some entrepreneurs, some business women about getting in the media, what to do when you get media, how to be comfortable on camera, all that good stuff.
02:39 I really love talking about it. It's one of my favorite topics because, you know, we do it every day and I love it so much.
02:44 It was an honor. We were out at Fashion Square, the Industrious, located right there.
02:50 I was going to ask about this room because you just said, do we have pictures?
02:54 We don't. We're not going to show them. We're keeping you in suspense.
02:58 But, it was over there in Fashion Square.
03:01 Where was it set? Because it was really cool.
03:02 It's an awesome space. In fact, you'll almost miss it if you're there. It's on the way to the Apple Store if you're in, you know.
03:10 Okay, so I always worry about that area in the mall.
03:13 Yeah, it's kind of like hidden. If you're walking through the mall to the Apple Store, it's like right there on your left. You'll like almost miss it if you go too fast, if you don't know where you're going.
03:23 But, I love that mall and actually last night, it was bumping there.
03:27 Was it?
03:28 Yeah, it was busy.
03:29 I was like, do people still go to the mall? I guess they do at Fashion Square because there were people there.
03:33 I still go. I go to the movies right there. That's really nice.
03:36 There's the movies right there. There's the Dick's Sports Goods right there. All kinds of great stuff.
03:40 And then I go window shopping. I go by Louie and Gucci and I look and go, "That looks too expensive for me."
03:46 I know. Just stare at it through the window and shed a tear.
03:49 Okay, so everybody's running to my office. Everyone's calling me and stuff like that and asking about betting on the Super Bowl, right?
03:56 Because it's coming up. We have the Draft King. We're going to be talking to him next week about betting.
04:01 But the bets that's going on right now is all about Taylor Swift.
04:05 And one bet that is, is she going to show up? Because she actually has a concert in Tokyo the night before.
04:13 I put good money that she will.
04:16 Oh yeah, because actually people said, "Okay, she will." Because then they went back and took, remember West Wing?
04:23 The show?
04:24 The show West Wing.
04:25 Yeah.
04:26 So on West Wing, there's actually an example of how the president can get from Tokyo back to the United States in time for an event.
04:35 So people pooled that and they've been using that as the betting thing of going, "Okay, here we go. Will she make it?"
04:42 I would vote for Taylor for president.
04:44 But what I really want to do, and I mean, hopefully we can break the rules on this, but I want us to get pictures of the jacket, the puppy jacket that she wore and all the wives are wearing.
04:54 Because those are made by actually an NFL wife who just got a deal with the NFL.
04:59 A wag.
05:00 A wag. But what's really neat is that it's just old jersey and stuff that she started creating herself and everything like that.
05:04 No way, that's cool.
05:05 And then her husband actually, who plays, I don't know if he's a Niner or somewhere, I forget what, he's a 49er.
05:11 He actually, during one of his interviews, gave props to his wife because everyone was like, "Oh my God, Taylor Swift's jacket, how awesome is it?"
05:19 He goes, "No, that's my wife's jacket that you made for her."
05:22 Oh, good for her. That's awesome.
05:24 But yeah, the bet right now is on Taylor Swift. Will she show up? Will she at least be there for the kiss at the end, whoever wins and stuff?
05:32 So a lot of bets going on.
05:33 I think she'll show up. I think she will.
05:35 Yeah.
05:36 I don't know, let's take a vote here in the studio.
05:38 Shall we?
05:39 Who do we think she'll show up? Yes? Yay?
05:40 Okay, this is my thing.
05:41 Just me and Maddie.
05:42 I think she'll show up for second half. I say second half. She won't be there for the kickoff because of the flight.
05:50 She'll be there at the very end to do the kiss.
05:52 And I wonder if she's going to be able to get through the air restriction. That's the part right there.
05:59 Well, she has Air Force One.
06:01 So, ooh, there you go. Swift One. Swift One.
06:05 Swift One.
06:06 Swift One.
06:07 All right, after the break, injury attorney Lloyd Baker is here to talk about wrongful death claims in Arizona. So stick around.
06:34 When it comes to accidents, there is one claim that's hard to do and to know if you can claim it.
06:39 And that's a wrongful death claim.
06:41 And here to help us understand this claim is injury lawyer and attorney Lloyd Baker.
06:45 Good morning.
06:46 Good morning, sir.
06:47 So this is very important to talk about.
06:50 And also it's something that people don't want to talk about.
06:52 And that is wrongful death claims.
06:55 And so what is a wrongful death claim so people can understand that?
06:58 So it's like negligence. Right?
07:01 So if you have a catastrophic injury and somebody else is negligent, then that person has a claim for wrongful death.
07:09 So basically the heirs.
07:11 OK, so they basically have two different things.
07:13 You have the heirs and you have the estate.
07:15 And so it's sad because it's the number one thing is, you know, the empathy that we give our clients is just that's super important because they're going through a rough time.
07:22 But then they wonder, you know, how can I really get help?
07:25 And so and what are the what are the damages for such, you know, such an accident?
07:30 And so we we we walk them through it.
07:32 We take really good care of them.
07:34 And we say, hey, you know, you're on the one side, you've got the claim that the estate has, which is like your medical bills and funeral expenses and things like that.
07:45 Right. And then on the other side, you have the human aspect of it, which sadly, the family and the heirs.
07:52 And so a child can make a claim, a parent can make a claim and a and a child parent and there's one spouse.
08:03 Yes. So the spouse can make a claim.
08:05 So and what you know, what are their claims?
08:09 It's a lot of grief, loss of support, loss of income, loss of income.
08:15 Yeah. So people don't realize that because, you know, a child, a lot of times the child loses a parent.
08:20 Yeah. So so, yeah.
08:22 How is that child going to be taken care of for the rest of its life?
08:25 Right. So there's things that are really difficult in this time as far as to talk about it.
08:31 But it's so important because things happen.
08:33 Right. And so let me ask you, if the person who passed away in this accident had life insurance, does that stop you from making a claim or can you still go make a wrongful death claim?
08:43 So that that's just an aspect of it.
08:45 And you can still make a claim.
08:46 OK, questions. Yeah, because that's what people probably will.
08:48 Well, insurance paid for it. I don't need to go.
08:50 But it's important to do that.
08:52 So now you just said the certain people that can make those claims.
08:54 Can everybody go make that claim?
08:56 The spouse, the children, you know, grandparents, anybody, or is it just one person in the heirs that can go make that claim?
09:02 So they can all make they all have their separate claim.
09:05 But there's just one suit, basically.
09:07 Right. And so it's all under one umbrella.
09:09 And then at the end of the day, then it's divided up between the heirs.
09:13 Right. So, you know, you always get a lot of questions like, you know, what if we're just, you know, friends?
09:18 What if we're just, you know, brothers and sisters of this decedent? Stuff like that.
09:23 Unfortunately, in Arizona, they can't make a claim, but they can as far as the estate's concerned.
09:29 Got it. So they can go into the state part of it and that will be the claim.
09:32 So that's what you need to understand.
09:34 So they're two separate things, really.
09:36 Do you recommend people to, I mean, I know you talk with them, but do you want them all to go underneath the estate or should they do the heirs or do two separate ones?
09:44 Do two separate.
09:45 Two separate.
09:46 And a lot of times, to tell you the truth, I just try to help the heirs because the estate sometimes, you know, it really depends on how, if they did get some hospital visit before they passed or that kind of stuff, did they really incur, you know, some expenses or was it kind of a sudden kind of a thing?
10:04 So it just really kind of depends, but mostly we're there for the heirs, but we do help the estate at some extent, but it's, and it gets actually filtered to the heirs, too, once that's all taken care of.
10:17 So that money actually goes, ends up in the heirs' pocket.
10:21 And so people don't understand, too, like when we talk about accidents, we're usually talking about car accidents or, you know, something like that.
10:27 But this is an accident at work or on vacation or anything like that that someone else was not just doing.
10:33 And so it's, you know, and it's basically the law allows it any time it's anywhere more than 51 percent, so preponderance of the evidence is what they call it.
10:41 So if it's over 51 percent at fault, they can recover.
10:45 And so, you know, it happens a lot, a lot of different situations, like you said, car, trucks, motorcycle accidents, but also slip and falls have had it happen.
10:54 I've had it happen, you know, medical negligence, things like that where it's just really sad that people lose a loved one.
11:00 So let me, there was a question I wanted to make sure people understood, too, and that was having insurance the other way now.
11:08 So say, for instance, I am a business. Can I have wrongful death accident insurance on me? Is there something like that?
11:15 It's kind of the same thing, but good question. It's liability insurance.
11:19 So as a business owner, I have liability insurance.
11:22 So in case somebody gets hurt on my premises or somebody is driving one of my cars and hurt somebody, then, you know, that will take care of it for the firm.
11:30 Right. So, yeah, it's the same thing.
11:33 Wow. This is so important stuff. I know it's very hard to talk about, but that's why you guys are there for them to help walk them through it.
11:39 Absolutely. And again, it's Lloyd Baker and his team there.
11:42 Information's right on the screen to find out more about, again, any type of accident you need to deal with. He's there for you.
11:49 Appreciate that. Thank you.
11:51 Stay right there. I want to talk to you some more.
11:53 All right. Coming up, the Gold Rush days are coming to Wickenburg and we're getting a look at all the fun next.
12:14 The 75th annual Wickenburg Days is here and we are so excited to have Mike Wallace, the executive director of the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce, here to tell us more.
12:23 Mike, welcome.
12:25 Thank you. Thanks for having us.
12:26 Thank you for being here. So this is such a cool event. And as we were just saying, this is the 75th anniversary.
12:33 Annual. 75th annual Gold Rush Days.
12:35 Huge, huge deal. So tell me a little bit about the event for those at home who are like me and haven't had the opportunity to check it out yet.
12:41 Well, if you've never been to Wickenburg, it was founded by our heritage, our mining and ranching people.
12:51 OK. So that's when.
12:55 That's kind of what the history is.
12:57 That's what the history is. And this is our festival to appreciate all of our people from back in the day.
13:04 There's mucking and drilling. Oh, wow. Yeah. And a lot of people don't know what mucking and drilling is.
13:08 I don't even know what it is either. Yeah. Tell me what mucking is.
13:12 Mucking and drilling.
13:13 Specifically mucking is.
13:14 Mucking is when you take the ore in the old train cars and you've got to put it all in there and take it down.
13:19 There's an actual timed event on Sunday for it. And drilling, drilling for gold.
13:25 Got it. OK.
13:26 For Gold Rush Days.
13:27 See, it wasn't just in California. We did that out here, too. Very cool.
13:30 And you'd hold a drill and another guy swings a sledgehammer and hits the drill and he turns it.
13:36 So there's a single jack and a double jack on Sunday also.
13:40 So these are some of the events that you can come out and do and experience.
13:43 Really get that old Arizona vibe, that cowboy vibe.
13:47 Because in Arizona, that's kind of what people think of.
13:49 They think of the Wild West. The Wild West.
13:52 You know, the OK Corral. That's kind of our our history. Right.
13:55 So those are some of the events. What about other things like food and drink?
14:00 I mean, what can people expect when they come out?
14:02 Well, food and drink. Well, our Gold Rush Days starts Friday.
14:08 We'll have our opening ceremonies at 10 o'clock in front of the chamber.
14:11 The old train depot built in 1895. And we'll have a car show there.
14:18 And then from there, we'll have a little show and stuff like that.
14:21 But we'll have on down the road, we'll have one hundred and fifty craft fairs.
14:26 And then that's where the carnival will be.
14:28 And that's where you can pan for gold, actual gold.
14:32 And you'll have actual gold out there. And then Saturday, that is the big day.
14:38 We'll have a big parade down.
14:41 It's like a three mile parade coming down Wickenburg Way and in front of the train depot.
14:46 Nine announcing stations. And right there is showing Will Roberts.
14:51 He is our trick ropist. He'll be performing on Friday and Saturday.
14:56 And if you've watched the movie Oppenheimer, he's the general out of Oppenheimer.
15:02 He's also, we got him coming out here too to show trick guns and roping and everything else.
15:08 Wow. So this is truly a huge event. There's shows, there's food, there's all kinds of stuff.
15:13 There's also the rodeo, which is incredible.
15:16 On Saturday and Sunday. Slack is free on Friday if you get there early Friday morning.
15:21 Then Saturday, the full-fledged senior pro rodeo after the parade.
15:25 Half the people go out to the rodeo and it starts at 2 o'clock, gates open at noon.
15:32 You can bring cash or you can buy them online or you can come down to the chamber and come see me
15:37 and buy your tickets there for Saturday or Sunday. Same price all the way around.
15:42 So that's for the rodeo. What about tickets for the event itself?
15:45 The event itself is free. If you want to, like what I did when my kids were younger,
15:50 I'd give them the carnival tickets.
15:52 They would go ride the rides and I'd shop at all the 150 arts and crafts booths.
15:57 That's free to get in, but the carnival is what costs.
16:00 The carnival and the rodeo are the only thing you need tickets for.
16:03 So if you want to come in and just walk around, experience it, enjoy, like you said,
16:07 let the kids run off and have fun, let them mine for gold.
16:10 You can just enjoy shop, get some food, drink, just enjoy the environment and experience.
16:15 You will not go hungry in Wickenburg.
16:18 I love that. Really cool. This sounds like a fantastic event for the whole family.
16:22 So remind everybody where they can find information about you guys there at the chamber
16:25 to come buy tickets and all that.
16:26 Wickenburgchamber.com. Go to our annual events and you'll see the gold rush days
16:31 and it will tell you everything you need to know about it.
16:33 You can buy tickets on there also.
16:35 Fantastic. And this isn't this coming weekend.
16:37 This is coming up a little bit later here in February, the 9th and the 11th.
16:40 Because I'm too busy next week to be here.
16:43 You still got some time to go online and get your tickets and get prepared and get the kids all ready.
16:47 So this sounds like a fantastic event. Mike, thank you for telling us all about it.
16:50 Thank you. Come on to Wickenburg.
16:52 Absolutely. Thank you to the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring this segment.
16:57 Coming up, we are heading out to the newest Barrio Queen in Arizona
17:00 to see what's on their menu when The Mix returns.
17:03 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
17:15 [music]
17:17 All right. Welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
17:24 Woo! Yay! Second half! Woo! Yes!
17:30 It's a little warm in the studio today. If you can't tell, it's making us all a little loafy.
17:34 But it's fun. It makes the show fun.
17:36 Still to come, the folks from the Arizona Renaissance Festival are here
17:39 to give us a sneak peek on the big event.
17:41 Yep. Plus, there they are, my boys.
17:44 Look at that. Funny as they can be.
17:46 Plus, you can never be too careful, so we are calling in the Peaceful Warrior
17:51 to help us with some self-defense tips.
17:54 Absolutely.
17:55 She's going to give us some things to talk about and to do,
17:57 especially as we are in that season now to get out and be out walking, doing different things.
18:03 Be out and about.
18:04 It's also for men, too, she was telling me.
18:06 Oh, that's great. Yeah.
18:07 It's important there.
18:08 All right. Let's do some trending.
18:09 All right.
18:10 We want to thank Gerber Injury Law.
18:11 We thank them for sponsoring this part of the show.
18:13 And this is where we talk about things from the Internet, social media, wherever.
18:18 So, this is really cool.
18:20 So, Brad's mic. Brad's mic, they said.
18:24 Oh, no. Did it fall down?
18:25 Did I lose my mic?
18:26 Can you--it's over. Is that it on the chair?
18:28 Can you hear me? You take over, Lexi.
18:30 All right. So, we're doing trending brought to you by Gerber Injury Law.
18:34 I'll do mine since we're starting out with some cool stuff here.
18:38 Going into wedding season, or I guess we are in wedding season here in Arizona.
18:42 So, the new trend is people getting married at Airbnbs.
18:46 People are ditching the old school wedding venues because, A, they're expensive,
18:51 and, B, when you get an Airbnb, you can kind of customize it.
18:55 You can shop for these things.
18:56 So, this is the new trend.
18:57 I was just told last night by a wedding organizer here in Arizona that this is the upcoming trend.
19:03 So, some of the things that people like about it, accessibility and transit.
19:07 You have access to kitchens.
19:10 You have things that you might not have in a regular venue.
19:14 You get to kind of make it specific to you.
19:16 I don't know. So, it's pretty cool.
19:17 It's a new thing that people are going for.
19:21 But haven't I think I've seen stars rent Airbnbs to do their--like they have little parties,
19:25 and then all of a sudden they bring the wedding out.
19:27 Didn't--I want to say--what's her name? Miley Cyrus?
19:31 Didn't she have a wedding in the house?
19:33 Maybe. Maybe.
19:34 Like they rented a house, and the paparazzi were all over at her house,
19:39 but she was at another house doing the wedding.
19:40 Maybe. You know, to be honest, I don't know.
19:42 I'm not sure, but I was talking to a wedding planner here in Arizona,
19:46 and she was saying this is the new big thing.
19:48 So, it used to be the thing for the bachelorette parties.
19:51 And that's big in Scottsdale.
19:53 Everybody wanted to do their bachelorette parties at Airbnbs.
19:55 But now we're taking it even to the weddings.
19:58 And, in fact, my brother and sister-in-law did something like this for their wedding in California
20:02 and had the most gorgeous outdoor backyard wedding
20:06 with gorgeous views of the Riverside Mountains there in California.
20:09 And it was an Airbnb.
20:11 It's probably cheaper, too, right?
20:12 I do think there are some that are cheaper.
20:15 Some of the things that people are saying are not great about it are
20:19 the lack of bathrooms, local noise ordinances.
20:23 You also have things to worry about like insurance in case someone was injured there,
20:28 potential damage to the property that then you would have to pay for and deal with all of that.
20:33 So, there are ups and downs.
20:35 But I think it's really cool.
20:36 I think that's a fun thing to do, especially here in Arizona.
20:38 So many people are Airbnb-ing their homes now.
20:41 And there's some great backyards to see.
20:43 We have big backyards here to enjoy.
20:45 Some beautiful, beautiful options.
20:47 That would be good.
20:48 I found this in my 8 Things.
20:50 Another 8 Things.
20:51 8things.com.
20:52 Exactly.
20:53 But 8 Things You Should Never Make From Scratch.
20:56 Okay.
20:57 So, here we have hot dogs.
20:58 Don't make them from scratch.
21:00 Yeah.
21:01 I don't know who can make hot dogs.
21:03 How do you make hot dogs from scratch at home?
21:05 Aren't there like really gross things in hot dogs?
21:08 That was always like the, you know, gossips.
21:11 Just make 3 so if you're going to do anything, don't go and make the--
21:14 There was really interesting things in hot dog meat.
21:17 English muffins.
21:18 I don't know.
21:19 How do you make English muffins?
21:20 Have you ever made homemade English muffins?
21:21 Definitely not.
21:22 I don't really make homemade anything.
21:23 All right.
21:24 Mozzarella.
21:25 That's true.
21:26 I do make homemade soup.
21:27 There you go.
21:28 There you go.
21:29 Mozzarella.
21:30 I don't understand who's going to need that kind of stuff.
21:32 That would be a hard thing to make at home.
21:35 Pastrami.
21:36 Interesting.
21:37 Yeah.
21:38 6 to 8 hours to make--
21:40 These are things that I would never think to make at home.
21:44 You know, like this wouldn't cross my mind anyways.
21:46 Right.
21:47 Now, potato chips would because that's-- I mean, don't--
21:49 Would it?
21:50 No.
21:51 Would it?
21:52 No, not me.
21:53 I wouldn't.
21:54 I would just go to the store.
21:55 I would just buy a bag.
21:56 Exactly.
21:57 Was that all eight?
21:58 No, that was not all eight.
21:59 It was just a few of them.
22:00 Oh, OK.
22:01 There's pastrami, puffy pastries, fruit leather.
22:03 Fruit leather?
22:04 Yeah.
22:05 And then--
22:06 What was this list?
22:07 March-- what's it March-- I always say those wrong.
22:10 Marchino cherries.
22:11 Marchino cherries.
22:12 So I don't-- just go buy them.
22:14 That's what I would do.
22:15 I'd just go buy the stuff.
22:16 All right.
22:17 But those are eight things you should never make from scratch.
22:18 All right.
22:19 You know some other things that you shouldn't make from scratch
22:21 is the delicious food that you could get at Mario Queen.
22:23 Yes.
22:24 Just go get it there.
22:25 Because back in 2011, they opened their doors in Old Town Scottsdale.
22:28 And now they have-- in 2024, they have locations all across the valley.
22:32 Yep.
22:33 And thank you to Mario Queen for sponsoring this segment,
22:35 because I checked out their newest location-- ready?
22:38 In Surprise.
22:39 Wow.
22:40 And to get a good, delicious taste of their Mexican dishes they served up,
22:42 take a look.
22:43 [MUSIC PLAYING]
22:47 [MUSIC PLAYING]
22:50 Chef Julio, this is awesome to be here at the new Mario Queen in Surprise.
23:01 You're excited because there's a happy hour that is all over the different Mario Queens
23:06 that you guys are so proud to come back with.
23:08 And you got some great dishes on that menu, don't you?
23:10 Really, really good dishes.
23:11 We have seven different dishes, all varieties of everything.
23:14 So yeah, it's a great, great menu.
23:15 And you have the people's favorites.
23:17 That's, of course, the street tacos.
23:18 Yes.
23:19 So guacamole?
23:20 There's no guacamole on the happy hour menu, but you can always do a table side.
23:25 But we got some elote ribs.
23:26 We got some flautas, empanadas, some nachitos, which is a smaller version of nachos.
23:31 So yeah.
23:32 Oh my gosh.
23:33 So a lot there on food.
23:34 Thank you.
23:35 Oh man, this is awesome.
23:36 What's also awesome is that you guys have decided to bring back the fajitas.
23:38 Right.
23:39 After everybody's-- hey, where the fajitas?
23:40 Where are the fajitas?
23:41 Yeah.
23:42 Now they are permanently on the menu?
23:43 They are.
23:44 So this is a summer special.
23:45 They did so good that we brought it up for the fall, and now they made it into a regular
23:48 menu.
23:49 So yes.
23:50 All right.
23:51 Let's make some, because you're going to make some right here for us.
23:52 So how does this all start?
23:53 So we got some mix of peppers, poblano peppers, red peppers, red onions, and yellow onions.
23:57 So I'm going to start with some oil here.
23:59 All right.
24:00 I'm just going to do the veggies.
24:01 Hot.
24:02 Stand back a little bit.
24:03 Oh, stand back.
24:04 OK.
24:05 There you go.
24:06 All right.
24:07 So we're just going to saute this for a little bit, let it go.
24:11 And then we'll add some seasoning.
24:13 So there's a mixture of spices, oregano, cumin, and other things that I can't tell you.
24:18 You can't tell me.
24:19 Later on you will.
24:20 I will.
24:21 I will.
24:22 And then to finish it off, a little bit of soy sauce, which is going to add a lot of
24:25 flavor and just bring everything together.
24:27 Oh, man.
24:28 Let's see.
24:29 Oh, look at that.
24:30 And that's what's so great about this dish is that it's healthy, it's good for you, and
24:35 it can feed more than one person.
24:37 Oh, absolutely.
24:38 So what we have over here, we have our trio fajitas, which is some adobo grilled shrimp,
24:42 some carne asada, and some marinated chicken as well.
24:45 So you got the veggies right here.
24:47 And then I like that.
24:48 Is that a side of rice and beans?
24:49 Yeah, so this is a side for the fajitas.
24:51 We've got some charro beans, we got some Mexican rice, some avocado crema, and some fresh flower
24:56 tortillas for you to make tacos.
24:57 Oh, my gosh.
24:58 This is amazing.
24:59 Thank you.
25:00 Also, too, we got to mention, you got that burrito that everyone loves.
25:03 It's just, I mean, to die for.
25:05 Yeah, the Azteca burrito.
25:07 It's rice and beef short rib, and it's topped with our green sauce and our red pepper sauce.
25:12 Oh, man, this is great.
25:13 All right, is this almost ready?
25:15 Yeah, this is it.
25:16 So we're just going to plate it.
25:17 Okay.
25:18 So we'll put the veggies right here, and then we'll just finish it off like that.
25:21 We added just a little bit of water there, so you get that smoke smell.
25:24 All right there.
25:25 Man, this looks so delicious.
25:26 Well, we also know that with those happy hour menu items, we got to have a drink, right?
25:32 We do, absolutely.
25:33 All right, I'm going to head to the bar.
25:35 [music]
25:43 Matt, chef just cooked me the amazing fajita that's back on the menu.
25:47 Oh, yeah.
25:48 Now, there is a happy hour that you have to come by for cocktails.
25:51 Everybody can do beer, but here at Barrio Queen, you guys do tequila.
25:54 We do, and we do a lot of it, yeah, for sure.
25:57 So let's start down here.
25:58 What do we have here for a happy hour?
26:00 So starting down here, that's going to be our house-made sangria.
26:03 We're going to put a little bit of all-natural mango puree down at the bottom,
26:06 fresh red wine sangria in that, garnish that with an orange wheel.
26:10 We got amazing food as well.
26:12 You know, Julio did a great job curating a menu specific for happy hour,
26:15 potato empanadas, elote ribs, flautas, tacos, tons of great food.
26:21 There you go.
26:22 All right, you can't come into the Barrio Queen without having a margarita, am I right?
26:24 You have to.
26:25 You have to.
26:26 And you got not just one, you got a couple of different ones.
26:28 We do.
26:29 So in all the margaritas, they're going to be $5 during our happy hour.
26:32 The other margarita we're going to feature is going to be the Barrio Margarita.
26:34 That's just a classic, straightforward margarita.
26:36 We've got the Skinny Margarita as well.
26:38 We've got the En Fuego for you, a spicy margarita.
26:41 And then we have our Jalapeno Margarita.
26:43 We're going to infuse that tequila in-house too.
26:46 Oh, my gosh.
26:47 Okay, you got the Don Julio going, but not just one shot of Don Julio.
26:49 You got a couple of different shots of Don Julio.
26:51 We do.
26:52 We got three, right?
26:53 You can't just have one.
26:54 So that's going to be our Tequila Flight.
26:55 So that's Don Julio, half-priced during happy hour, 2 to 6,
26:59 Monday through Friday at all locations.
27:01 And then at Glendale, Avondale, and Gilbert every day of the week,
27:05 Saturday and Sunday happy hours.
27:06 All right, before we introduce this one tequila,
27:08 I've got to make sure people know that I am a member of the team
27:12 because you guys are carrying Mark Wahlberg's Fletch up in here.
27:16 Am I right?
27:17 We are. We are.
27:18 And absolutely amazing tequila.
27:20 Number one sipping Blanco in the world, right?
27:22 And we've got four different variations of that.
27:25 We've got the Blanco, the Repo, the Añejo, and then the Cristalino as well.
27:28 Oh, my gosh.
27:29 And you've got a signed bottle by him.
27:30 I have not got a signed bottle by him yet.
27:32 Well, we've got the inside hookup with him.
27:34 I love it.
27:35 And if you want to know, this is his favorite right here
27:37 if you want to sip a little bit.
27:38 For sure.
27:39 I love it.
27:40 Again, it's an awesome happy hour going on here.
27:41 Now, I've just got to say, you know what?
27:43 What time does happy hours start?
27:44 2, goes until 6 o'clock.
27:46 Okay, so you're going to be able to get $5, 2 tacos.
27:49 You're going to be able to get flautas, potato empanadas.
27:51 We've got nachitos, elote ribs, 2 to 6, all 8 Valley locations.
27:57 Don't forget Glendale, Avondale, and Gilbert is 7 days a week.
28:01 I love it.
28:02 There you go.
28:03 All right.
28:04 I'm going to just borrow this and let's go make my drink.
28:05 We want to thank Barrio Queen for sponsoring this segment.
28:15 For more information, head over to azdailymix.com.
28:19 [Music]
28:29 Anytime we have questions about your options when it comes to investing in finance,
28:43 we talk to Eric from SBC.
28:44 Thanks for doing this.
28:45 Well, thanks for having me once again.
28:46 There is a term that more and more people are becoming familiar with,
28:50 and it's the petrodollar because of what China is doing in other countries.
28:53 Can you explain what this is and what's going on?
28:55 Okay, so to kind of summarize it,
28:59 the petrodollar was what we used to replace the gold standard
29:03 when we went off of the gold standard in '71.
29:06 By '73, we shook hands with Saudi Arabia and the petronations
29:11 to make sure that they would use only U.S. dollars in trade internationally
29:15 for that of petro.
29:17 So this gave us a stronghold all over the world
29:20 when it came to our currency dominance
29:22 because they would have to go through us to get to them.
29:25 And that was honestly, that was a handshake deal.
29:28 You're not being facetious.
29:30 It really was just a handshake.
29:31 Absolutely.
29:32 Not only was it a handshake, but it was something that has given us dominance
29:37 since the '70s, and here we are in 2023,
29:42 and for the first time ever, that's being jeopardized
29:45 because China right now sees an opportunity.
29:49 The current administration is very anti-petro, if you would.
29:52 And then we saw China go to Saudi Arabia and then do a diplomatic approach
29:58 when they brought Iran and Saudi Arabia to the table together
30:02 in peace negotiations.
30:04 And then also, immediately following that,
30:07 we saw for the first time the yuan being exchanged for petro out of Saudi Arabia.
30:13 So, I mean, this is a huge game changer,
30:16 and it's something that everybody is going to feel eventually.
30:21 Isn't India a little involved in this in a way too with the petro dollar?
30:24 Aren't they trying to advance in that area?
30:26 Not only India, but, I mean, there are many nations around the Middle East.
30:31 The more you look into this, the more you're going to find that it is a rabbit hole
30:36 that you're going to tumble down, and the likely outcome here
30:39 is that we are no longer going to reserve our currency as the petro standard,
30:44 and that is going to possibly jeopardize--not possibly, but it will jeopardize--
30:49 our currency as the reserve currency of the world.
30:53 And the big problem with that is we've got so much debt,
30:56 what keeps us afloat is the fact that we're number one.
30:59 But what if we weren't number one?
31:01 I mean, Mike, I'm sure you probably would have concerns about that.
31:04 Right. Yeah, and so if that's happening, if the dollar is weakening around the world,
31:08 which it appears like it is, how is gold, or what do you recommend,
31:12 what is a way to protect yourself?
31:14 Well, the reason why gold--in uncertain times, the only certain thing is gold.
31:20 And the reason why is because you go back as far as you want,
31:23 gold has always been a standard of money worldwide, not just in our country,
31:28 but there's no way that we're going to find in our lifetimes or the next gold not being a standard of money.
31:36 And therefore, if you retreat and put money into something like gold,
31:40 you know it's going to be there no matter what happens to the currency
31:44 that your country provides to your citizens.
31:48 Well, I know that you talk about just--when you say gold,
31:51 but I know that there are a lot of different options and a lot of different things that you can buy,
31:55 whether it's physical gold or whatever it is.
31:58 If people want to learn more on what the right thing to buy is,
32:01 not just gold, but how to buy it, how do you do that?
32:04 Well, the best thing to do is just give us a call.
32:06 You can text us, you can call us, you can go to sbcgold.com.
32:10 But more interesting than that right now is more that they can learn about the petrodollar as well.
32:15 If they go to our website right now, they can go ahead and they can request a copy of the petrodollar,
32:22 and then on there, once they get the link to that, they can even go ahead and sign up
32:26 to have all the upcoming events that we've been sourcing and showing people
32:31 that will pop up in their e-mail feed and that they can watch this in real time.
32:36 Well, the advantage also, I think, for people is even though you are nationally known,
32:40 this is a local company--you're Scottsdale Bullion & Coins--so they can actually go into an office,
32:44 talk to somebody face-to-face. You're proud to serve the local market.
32:48 Well, absolutely. I was born in Arcadia, and I love servicing the community here.
32:52 I mean, yes, we do business all over the country, but we love it when people come in.
32:56 You know, the idea of getting information is one thing, but getting reliable information is another thing.
33:01 Expert advice. Here's local expert advice at SBC.
33:04 Get down and see Eric and his team. Make the phone call. Go to the website.
33:07 Thanks for coming down.
33:08 Thank you so much, Mike.
33:09 Thank you to Scottsdale Bullion & Coins for sponsoring this segment.
33:15 Want more information? Head over to azdailymix.com.
33:41 As a woman, knowing how to defend yourself can be the key to your safety
33:45 if you are ever in a situation where that is at risk.
33:48 We're so honored to have Tiffany Richards of Peaceful Warrior Women here to give us some self-defense tips.
33:53 Welcome, Tiffany.
33:54 Thank you.
33:55 So Brad was saying earlier, it's not just for women. Obviously, this is applicable to anyone,
34:00 but I do feel like as women, this is something that can be incredibly empowering.
34:05 This is something that I think for women, we all should know,
34:09 because unfortunately, we're more likely to be targets.
34:12 Men, obviously, this is great information for you as well, but specifically for women,
34:16 and you are designing this specifically for women, this is something that we all should know.
34:19 Yes, absolutely. You should definitely know it.
34:22 And a lot of people think that self-defense starts once you feel threatened or after you're attacked,
34:26 but self-defense really is everything that we do on a daily basis to manage our personal safety.
34:31 Definitely. So we want to talk about awareness and intuition,
34:34 which is, I think, something that also relates very well to women, because everyone says women's intuition.
34:38 So you know that little feeling in your stomach that you get, that little gut feeling that maybe something's not right.
34:43 So talk a little bit about that.
34:44 Yes, we talk about women's intuition or just that gut feeling, you know, your gut instinct,
34:49 and we say those things often.
34:50 Women definitely are more in tune with it, but we all have it.
34:53 Definitely.
34:54 And the root, actually, of the word intuition is "intere," T-E-R-E, which means to guard or protect.
34:59 So we have every single thing in our body that we need to keep us away from danger.
35:04 We just have to listen to it, and oftentimes we kind of talk ourselves out of things.
35:08 But once those red flags start popping up, once you feel that feeling in your stomach where you're like,
35:12 "Ugh, I don't know about this situation," that's when you need to honor your gut and get out of there.
35:17 Because there's no harm in still honoring that feeling.
35:21 Like you said, if you don't feel right about something and you leave a situation, there's no harm to anybody there,
35:25 but you might be taking yourself out of a really bad situation if you just listen.
35:29 Yes, and I hear stories all the time from women who have did not listen to themselves,
35:33 and got themselves into a bad situation.
35:35 Oh, man.
35:36 So you've just got to follow that gut instinct.
35:38 And also be aware.
35:39 You know, take away distractions.
35:40 We do things on a daily basis to participate in our own victimization.
35:44 You know, we're distracted, we have our earbuds in, we're looking at our phone, we're making calls,
35:47 we're rifling through our purse.
35:49 And I can guarantee you that the person who's looking at you, they're paying full attention to you.
35:54 They're not as distracted as we are.
35:56 That's right.
35:57 They are aware and watching, and so we need to put ourselves in that same kind of mindset, right?
36:04 We need to be really aware.
36:06 So we also want to talk about something that's another thing kind of linked to that, which is confidence
36:10 and putting out that vibe that if somebody is watching you, they might notice that you have something a little bit different,
36:17 which is confidence, self-awareness.
36:18 So how do we really embody that?
36:20 Perpetrators are really looking for an easy victim.
36:22 They're not looking for somebody that they think are going to put up a fight.
36:25 And actually a study was done by Harvard quite some time ago about what's called power poses.
36:30 So when you think about a power pose, what do you think of?
36:32 I would say the, you know, I think of the girl on Wall Street in New York.
36:37 Yeah, absolutely, like Wonder Woman or even Superman.
36:39 This is for everybody.
36:40 And what it does is standing in a power pose for two minutes, and sometimes I like to do this too.
36:45 Oh, the hands straight up.
36:46 This is a big power pose.
36:47 You can do this in your room or something like that.
36:49 You don't have to walk around the grocery store in a power pose.
36:51 But standing in a power pose for two minutes, what that has shown to do is increases your testosterone by 20%.
36:57 It decreases your cortisol, that's your stress hormone, by 22%,
37:00 and then you're 33% more likely to make decisions and take action.
37:04 So if you can imagine walking through the world with your shoulders back, your head held high,
37:07 you're making contact because you've been practicing these power poses, and this goes for anyone, men, women, children.
37:13 This is something that you do before a meeting, something before you ask your boss for a raise,
37:16 something before you go into a difficult conversation. This has been proven, studied by Harvard.
37:21 That is incredible. So this is something that we should do before we go out anywhere,
37:25 or even just, like you said, in your room before you have something coming up, you're going out.
37:29 Make sure you have that confidence because people are going to notice that.
37:32 Yes, absolutely. And then you just embody it, and you just walk through the world like that.
37:36 People are going to be looking at that, and they're not going to want to mess with you
37:39 because they're going to be going for the easy targets.
37:41 You're not an easy target when you're practicing this.
37:43 Okay, so say you still get targeted, unfortunately. What is a quick tip that you can give us
37:47 that is something that everybody at home watching can kind of get?
37:50 And we're going to call Erin up here to be our little model for the day.
37:56 So something that we can take away from this.
37:59 Okay. A lot of times women ask me about attacks, like from the front.
38:02 We cover a lot of attacks from the front. We know they're coming in, but what about a blitz attacker?
38:06 Which blitz attackers only make up about 2% of the population. Erin's looking nervous.
38:11 So imagine the power pose. I'm going to walk you through this.
38:14 So if you get attacked from behind, whether they pull your hair, they pull your shoulders,
38:18 they grab your neck, but up high from behind. Think about that power pose.
38:22 So go ahead. I'm going to have you come in. You're going to grab her shoulders.
38:25 So he's the bad guy. What you're going to do is you're going to raise your right hand.
38:29 So think about that power pose. You're going to take a step with your left foot over your right foot,
38:33 and I want you to turn hard and drop your elbow down to your hip.
38:38 Okay. Now start throwing those palm heel strikes. You're right there. Boom, boom, boom.
38:42 There you go. Now all you have to do, you've created that distraction for him.
38:46 He's been hit in the nose, and now you can get out of the situation.
38:49 Alright. I love this. You're not going to stand there and fight with him, right?
38:51 Tiffany, this is great. Thank you so much. These were great tips.
38:54 Alright guys, coming up, the Arizona Renaissance Festival is almost here,
38:57 and we are talking about some new attractions you need to check out this year.
39:01 [music]
39:06 Thank you to the Arizona Renaissance Festival for sponsoring this segment,
39:12 because the big festival is kicking off again here in the Valley going until March.
39:17 What a great time to go out and step back in time, and we are here with the Renaissance men.
39:23 And of course, let's meet them. It is Roland and Florian.
39:28 That's right. Now you guys have a really cool show, because it's a very funny show, right?
39:33 It is. We do a stage comedy, a sword fighting comedy show that we do,
39:38 but in addition to that, we also have a brand new offering for the festival this year for all the patrons.
39:43 That's right. We're doing a brand new show called The Hops. It's the Arizona Pub Crawl Show.
39:48 It is a 90-minute guided tour of the festival, where we're going to stop at four different pubs,
39:55 and at each stop you're going to get a craft beer pour, a different one at each stop, and tell them a little bit more.
40:02 And because the show is already 21 and over, we have Her Majesty's permission to give you the baudiest,
40:08 raunchiest, silliest show that you have had the pleasure of enjoying at the festival.
40:13 Oh my, so you're saying this is an adult show.
40:16 This one's adults only, yes. Now if you have a designated driver, make sure to bring them with, too.
40:21 All right, can you tell me the jokes that you guys are going to be trying to get?
40:26 Oh, wow! Okay, all right. I'm blushing. This is cool.
40:34 What's also great about the Arizona Festival is it's a family affair, too, so people can come out and enjoy.
40:39 That's what you recommend, right? Come out with the family.
40:41 Absolutely. There are things that people of all ages can enjoy. We have all sorts of new things for them to see.
40:47 We have Supernova the Strong Woman.
40:49 That's right. If you think you know a strong woman, you do not. This is the strongest woman you're going to see.
40:53 She not only crushes things on stage, she crushes on stage.
40:57 Oh, all right. She's better than Maddie, our Maddie here, because Maddie's a strong woman.
41:01 I saw Maddie walking out the park a lot. They might be able to duke it out.
41:03 Oh, I like strict dad jokes. That's fun. What's really neat, also,
41:08 We have the new music acts for families, as well. If you like high-energy shows,
41:12 we have the new Reelin' Rogues that will be on site this year.
41:15 They are high-energy, high-octane music. Your only complaint will be that they don't play for longer.
41:20 Absolutely. As a traditional Irish band, it is their job to tell you about the numerous military losses of the Irish.
41:28 That's right. And they do it with such pizzazz and energy.
41:30 We have so many. Wow, a lot of energy there and a lot of history going on.
41:33 Absolutely. Let's talk about, of course, performers at the Renaissance Festival,
41:37 because they travel from all over the world, I understand, to give us that entertainment like you two, right?
41:42 Absolutely. People come from all over the world to see different acts at the Renaissance Festival.
41:47 Like we said, we have music acts from Ireland. We have the Queen's show, as well.
41:52 She's come all the way from England, as well. I've heard.
41:54 And she's going to be there. She's wearing purple this year.
41:56 I like that. And what's also neat is, of course, the bird show that they have,
42:01 with people who can see these amazing birds, too.
42:03 But the other bird show that I think I have to say is the most popular bird show at the Renaissance Festival,
42:09 and that is the turkey leg. That's absolutely right.
42:12 Am I right? Is that the biggest show that everyone loves? Absolutely.
42:16 I mean, those are amazing. And people literally wait all year.
42:19 They train. They get ready to come and just eat one by theirself.
42:22 But has anybody ever eaten two legs by themselves?
42:25 I've had about four or five this morning. I think we can tell.
42:27 I have seen it done. I have seen it done.
42:29 The results were not as pretty as you would think, but it can be accomplished.
42:35 That's what's great about the Renaissance Festival. It's a lot to do for the whole family,
42:39 everyone to get out there and get involved and everything like that.
42:41 So let's remind them again about your stage show and the new Hops party.
42:46 Now, the stage show, we do the sword fighting comedy show.
42:49 We are men in tights doing fights. That's on stage. That's twice a day.
42:53 However, the new Hops is the Arizona Pub Crawl.
42:56 You have to get your tickets for that ahead of time online at the Arizona website to get the tickets.
43:01 It is a pre-expense because of the alcohol.
43:03 I like that. There you go. All right. Well, again, it is the Arizona Renaissance Festival.
43:07 Information is on aztv.com.
43:10 But we want to thank the Arizona Renaissance Festival for sponsoring this.
43:14 So stick around. We've got more of the mix coming up after this.
43:30 Thanks for tuning in today. Tomorrow on the show, Leslie Lear is sharing some office organizing tips.
43:35 Plus, the Italian daughter has some easy weeknight pasta recipes.
43:39 I like that. All right. Go have a great day. Stay warm.
43:42 And of course, we want you to be back here tomorrow. Big announcement tomorrow.
43:47 Be back here tomorrow to learn about some pasta recipes.
43:49 That's what I'll be back for. Bye, everybody. See you tomorrow.
43:58 Content segments during the Arizona Daily Mix were provided by Gerber Injury Law,
