00:00 back to talk about their experience of moving from the city to the bush to the regions and
00:06 continuing their jobs as members of the New South Wales Public Service. We need wonderful public
00:13 servants in our state to consider making the move to regional New South Wales. It's for many people
00:19 a massive lifestyle change, they could bring real positive benefits to their families and I know
00:24 that there's a lot of people who are considering a trip or a permanent move to regional New South
00:30 Wales as part of a change of experience for them and their family. It can really work for a lot of
00:36 families. It's one of the reasons why the government is allocating 24 million dollars as part of a
00:41 comprehensive package to encourage people to make the move to regional New South Wales. The first
00:47 part of that program is 700,000 dollars in an ad campaign to highlight successful transplants
00:54 from Metro Sydney to the regions of New South Wales. Jason's one of those case studies and we'll let
01:00 him speak in a moment about making the move with Amanda back to his boyhood home of Goulburn and
01:05 how it's been positive for him and his family. I know there's a lot of regional, sorry, I know
01:10 there's a lot of essential public servants that may be considering making the move but haven't
01:15 decided yet to do it and some of the considerations that they will be going through is, is it easy to
01:22 join communities? Will it be easy to fit in to a regional country town that you may not have
01:28 existing family and friend connections? Will it be straightforward to get a partner, a job in that
01:34 regional community and what's the experience of other people that have made that decision?
01:38 This program will go, we hope, a long way of answering a lot of those questions. It won't be
01:44 for everybody in the end but for those that are considering making the move to regional New South
01:49 Wales. My hope is that this investment tips them into making that decision. It's unfortunately the
01:56 case that 55% of teacher vacancies in our public education system are in regional New South Wales
02:03 and we know we've got significant shortfalls when it comes to regional positions, particularly for
02:08 nurses in the health system. So if we get this right, the incentives right, if we can highlight
02:14 positive case studies of people that have made the move, we can help regional communities grow
02:20 their populations, we can help particular families that have always considered making the move to
02:25 regional New South Wales and we can boost the number of frontline public sector workers in
02:30 those key service delivery areas like police, firefighters and our public education and health system.
