00:00This holiday period NSW Police will be conducting a statewide operation called Operation Christmas
00:06and New Years. It has commenced last night at 12 o'clock in the morning and will carry through to
00:11the 1st of January next year. We'll be targeting road safety issues such as driving impaired,
00:20drugs, alcohol and fatigue, speeding offences and restraint offences. We really do need the
00:26community to help us keep the roads safe. Police and Traffic Highway Patrol as well as local police
00:32throughout southern region will be conducting this operation to ensure that people arrive at
00:38their location safely throughout the busy holiday period. There will be increased police presence
00:44from both Traffic Highway Patrol and local police throughout the region. We'll be working together
00:50to ensure that the roads are kept safe for the community. Particularly in the southern region
00:57we have major thoroughfares connecting large cities and states. There is a high profile for
01:04us on traffic on the highways for any either road related crime or drug related crime
01:12in relation to organised crime activities. We are focusing as well on regional roads.
01:18Regional roads are represented within our major and fatal injury pressures
01:25as high so we will also be paying attention to those regional roads and areas.
01:31Under the limit that you are able to drive because of course
01:34due to those other factors fatigue may be an issue as well.
