00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:08 No one ever, people always forget about him.
00:12 So, there you go.
00:13 We're just doing some Vegas tribute here.
00:17 Yes!
00:18 About the Rat Pack.
00:19 And where did they originally start playing, do you remember?
00:21 They actually started at the...
00:24 The Sands?
00:25 The Sands, yes, the Sands, and then they were bought by the Desert Inn.
00:31 Actually made the deal, they said, "We got enough money, what can you give us?"
00:35 And the deal was that they got their own private club in the basement.
00:40 Very cool.
00:41 And that was the deal that they got them, and then they went over to somewhere else.
00:45 They were a couple places in Vegas.
00:46 The Pumps?
00:47 We were talking about the Pumps, was it the...
00:49 Michael would know.
00:50 I just think it was just the Sands and the Desert Inn.
00:52 I think those were two places.
00:54 We're obviously talking about the Rat Pack, because what do you do on Tuesday mornings?
00:57 That's it right there.
00:58 You reminisce about the Rat Pack.
00:59 There it is.
01:00 And we were saying there was four, but everyone forgets the fourth person, who was Peter...
01:04 Lawford.
01:05 There it is, Lawford.
01:06 There you go.
01:07 Peter Sutton.
01:08 Cheers, Pete.
01:09 That's Lexi O'Connell, this is Arizona Daily Mix, and today on the show we have Professor Drew
01:14 in the Make-Believe Kitchen with the Chop Shop, the original Chop Shop, who is here.
01:19 And we're talking Juice Week coming up.
01:22 Yes!
01:23 No, this is so great because juices are so good for you and just get your insides feeling
01:30 all good.
01:31 Yes, and healthy.
01:32 Exactly.
01:33 That's it right there.
01:34 Plus, a new generation of fashion designers are taking over the world, and we are talking
01:38 with some ASU fashion journalists about Planet Chic Fashion Show coming in February.
01:44 I mean, this is definitely chic.
01:46 I mean, look at this.
01:47 And these are college students.
01:48 They're college students.
01:49 This is incredible.
01:50 I can't wait to hear more.
01:51 There you go.
01:52 We've given out enough hints, but guess what?
01:54 We've got more for you, and that's to take a winter vacation.
01:57 Well, how about anywhere you like to go?
01:59 Oh, how about this?
02:00 We're talking with some experts at the Margaritaville about a trip idea that will have you having
02:05 you wanting to stay there all season.
02:08 Does that make sense?
02:09 Absolutely.
02:10 I think that made sense a little bit.
02:11 Wasting away in Margaritaville.
02:12 Wasting away.
02:13 I like it.
02:14 Some people claim there's a woman to blame, but I know my own darn fault.
02:21 There you go.
02:22 Speaking of Margaritaville and us being kind of fun and weather-wise.
02:27 Oh, okay.
02:28 Is that what we're speaking of?
02:29 Yeah, remember we were talking about weather?
02:30 Oh, right, right.
02:31 Yeah.
02:32 Weather change.
02:33 I'm on it.
02:34 I'm on it.
02:35 We were talking about the weather being nice out.
02:36 It got so warm.
02:37 Yeah.
02:38 It's been beautiful the last couple days.
02:39 See, this is the kind of weather that I'm like, man, if Phoenix could stay like this
02:42 all year long.
02:43 Between 75 and 80.
02:44 So yesterday I think it got to 81 in some areas.
02:47 Was it really?
02:48 Yeah.
02:49 Here it was 78 just leaving the station.
02:51 It was beautiful.
02:52 Just perfect.
02:53 But then we have rain coming.
02:54 See, I also like that though.
02:56 It's winter.
02:57 I want the rain.
02:58 I know, but then we start to cool down for the most important week in Arizona and Phoenix
03:03 and that's the WM Phoenix Open.
03:06 Got to make sure you say WM.
03:07 No longer Waste Management.
03:08 WM.
03:09 Well, I think that was a smart move.
03:11 I think that was a smart marketing move.
03:13 I remember the first time I heard someone talk about the Waste Management Phoenix Open and
03:17 I was like, they literally have the word waste in the title.
03:20 There's a lot of reason why.
03:22 W-O, you're right.
03:23 There's a lot of people wasting at that open.
03:26 Wasting away in the Phoenix Open.
03:28 But yeah, we've got rain coming in and chilly temperatures next week.
03:31 Yeah, I love it.
03:32 We're going to be live out there on Thursday.
03:34 We're taking our whole show out.
03:36 So you've got to watch us next week.
03:38 And what's today?
03:40 The 30th?
03:41 Yes, it is.
03:42 Tomorrow's the 31st.
03:43 In two days we have a big surprise for you people.
03:45 Two days.
03:46 Huge surprise.
03:47 Huge surprise for you.
03:48 In two days.
03:49 So you're going to want to tell all your friends.
03:51 But right now the surprise we have for you, and that is Trendy, brought to you by Gerber
03:55 Injury Law.
03:56 We thank them for sponsoring this.
03:57 And this is where we travel the internet, the social media websites, our own backyard
04:00 to give you something to talk about.
04:01 And this is very interesting.
04:02 You have a dishwasher, don't you?
04:04 Yes.
04:05 Well, not your husband.
04:06 But not you, but like a dishwasher.
04:08 An actual machine that washes dishes, yes.
04:10 But there's a lot of people out there that don't have dishwashers.
04:12 It's amazing.
04:13 Well, definitely in New York City.
04:14 You were lucky to have a dishwasher when you lived in New York.
04:16 So I got very used to hand washing stuff.
04:18 So did I.
04:19 When I was in college I didn't really have one.
04:21 And then, I don't think, in Cali, did I have one?
04:23 No, not really.
04:24 I don't think I did.
04:25 So here I do.
04:26 But, here goes eight things you should not put in your dishwasher.
04:28 Okay, hit us.
04:29 Alright?
04:30 Anything wood.
04:31 Oh, okay, yeah.
04:32 Yeah, I feel like I knew that.
04:33 So they said the wood spoons are nice.
04:34 Even your cutting board, you're not supposed to put in there.
04:36 Yeah.
04:37 What you're supposed to do is just pretty much use baking soda, soak it a little bit
04:40 and rinse it off to get rid of the stains.
04:42 That's good.
04:43 Cast iron.
04:44 Yes, never put your cast iron because that's where you season that bad boy and it can also
04:47 rust it out.
04:48 Aluminum cookware.
04:49 Copper or other precious metals, don't put in there.
04:54 Okay.
04:55 Non-steel cookware.
04:56 Okay.
04:57 Certain plastic items, that means you gotta look at the bed.
04:59 Because it gets hot, yeah, that makes sense.
05:01 I didn't know kitchen knives, you're not supposed to put in there.
05:04 See, I did know that because they can rust.
05:05 Is that what it is?
05:06 Yeah, I didn't know that.
05:07 Yeah, I didn't know mine either.
05:08 And of course, whoever puts fine china or crystal in the dishwasher is like a big no-no.
05:12 Yeah, like you're gonna ruin it.
05:14 Yeah.
05:15 Yeah, that's terrible.
05:16 Okay, well that was really good.
05:17 There were a couple on there that I didn't know, like non-stick, I don't know that I
05:19 even thought of that.
05:20 Yeah, I didn't understand non-stick, but I guess because of the abrasion of the water
05:23 kind of like knocks the whole thing off.
05:25 Oh, sure, kind of ruin the whole non-stick thing.
05:27 Okay, so another thing that we want to talk to you guys about because people are all upset
05:31 about this.
05:32 Have you heard Ariana Grande's new song?
05:35 I have not, but I kind of like hearing the gist that people are really upset.
05:39 People are pissed because she kind of got a bad reputation last year when she started
05:45 dating this guy, her co-star for the Wicked movie, who was married and she kind of like
05:51 broke up their marriage in a way.
05:53 So she released her new song, it's called Yes And, and basically she's clapping back
05:58 at everybody saying yes and I can live my life however I want.
06:02 Are we gonna hear it?
06:03 No?
06:06 It's a good song, which is the annoying thing.
06:09 Is this the new song with the video where she's in the white shirt and black and she's
06:16 dancing?
06:17 So it's a good song, but people do not like the message.
06:20 So it's a little disappointing because I really love Ariana as an artist, I think she's great,
06:24 so it's kind of disappointing the attitude that she has right now.
06:27 The drama.
06:28 I know.
06:29 One drama that we don't have to worry about and that is the original Chop Shop who is
06:32 here to get us pumped for Juice Week.
06:36 What juice do they have in store for us when the mix returns?
06:38 Yes.
06:39 We'll have this with Professor Drew.
06:40 So we all want to feel healthier and nationally, Juice Week is upon us.
06:59 Thank you so much to the original Chop Shop for sponsoring this segment because we have
07:02 Drew here to tell us all about their amazing juices.
07:06 Drew, welcome!
07:07 Hey, thank you.
07:08 Thank you for having me on.
07:09 Hi, Drew.
07:10 Hey, how are you?
07:11 Great.
07:12 Good.
07:13 Yeah, Juice Week, like what you said.
07:14 Yeah, it is Juice Week.
07:15 When, your guys' actual Juice Week starts?
07:16 February 5th.
07:17 So next Monday starts our Juice Week, which we do every year and it's so exciting because
07:22 we do so many things.
07:24 I know you're a loyalty member, right?
07:26 Yes, I am.
07:27 A loyalty member, so you sign up on OriginalChopShop.com.
07:30 We have so many great prizes for you every day.
07:33 Free juices, twice the points for ordering online.
07:37 Oh, wow.
07:38 You get half-off juices, so all week long is like your time to like really dive in and
07:43 try all the juices and like really dig into Chop Shop.
07:46 That's awesome.
07:47 Oh, go ahead.
07:48 I was just going to say, I love juices and you and I were just saying that I saw a video
07:53 on TikTok about somebody making a juice just like this.
07:56 It's a great like start your morning, feel good, feel cleansed, you know, in your gut
08:01 and all that stuff.
08:02 So, yeah, juices are just a great way, honestly, throughout the day, but especially to start
08:06 off the day.
08:07 Well, yeah, and I was just thinking too, like, you know, how many people run to Circle K
08:10 to get a soda and it's like…
08:12 A smoothie or something.
08:13 You could just replace it with a juice and be so much healthier.
08:16 Yeah, you'd literally live forever.
08:17 All right, before you juice, what juices do you have over here?
08:20 Yeah, so we've got two sizes of juices.
08:22 We've got a 32-ounce and a 16-ounce.
08:24 So, we've got our cold buster, which is going to be oranges and lemon, a little bit
08:28 of turmeric and ginger.
08:29 And then next to that is going to be our power green, which is going to have all the green
08:33 vegetables.
08:34 So, kale, parsley, cucumber, celery, delicious, some green apple.
08:38 Then, of course, hydrating is important in front.
08:40 We've got the hydrator.
08:41 It's going to be coconut water and cucumber with lemon.
08:44 And then the detox, which is next to that, which is going to be beets, ginger, parsley,
08:48 things that are going to detox you.
08:50 Oh, yum.
08:51 Do you guys want to jump into making the juice?
08:53 Yeah, let's do it.
08:54 Yeah, okay.
08:55 So, this is our golden heart juice.
08:56 So, it's going to be one of our team members made it for the LTO, which is limited time
09:00 offer menu, which will be starting on February 5th.
09:03 So, of course, like what you saw on TikTok.
09:05 So, we've got pineapple, which is going to start juicing here.
09:10 And so, okay, I have a question because what I saw on TikTok, the girl didn't have a juicer.
09:14 She had a blender and she just put everything in it and then just kind of took all of the,
09:20 like put it through a cheesecloth and took all of the outsides out.
09:24 With a blender, you can just kind of put everything in there and it'll do that for you.
09:27 Yeah, absolutely.
09:28 That's great.
09:29 Or if you drink it like a smoothie, then it's like, you know, you can get all that extra
09:32 fiber.
09:33 What's that you just put in there now?
09:35 So, golden beets.
09:36 So, the reason why it's golden heart, yeah, golden beets.
09:38 So, it's going to be good for antioxidants and a little bit of detoxification.
09:42 Good for your liver.
09:44 So, we got beets, oranges as well.
09:48 Lots of citrus.
09:49 Lots of citrus.
09:50 So, also in that contest I had mentioned earlier, if you go to originalchopchop.com, you can
09:55 enter to win juice for a year.
09:57 Yeah, and the first 500 people that enter online will also get a free juice.
10:01 Oh, wow.
10:02 And then if you follow us on originalchopchop on Instagram, you will, there's also a chance
10:08 to win juice for a year.
10:09 Oh, my gosh.
10:10 Done.
10:11 All done?
10:12 It's done, yeah.
10:13 All right, very quickly, what do you have over here?
10:14 You keep juicing, what do we have over here?
10:15 So, over there we got our teriyaki chicken bowl with sweet potato hash.
10:19 Going to be vegetables and teriyaki with avocado on top.
10:22 Next to that is our Greek-ish, which has tofu on it in case you're going the non-meat route
10:26 this year.
10:27 Nice.
10:28 Or you can even do no cheese, they do vegan.
10:30 In front of that, our Rise and Shine breakfast item, which is the breakie, which is going
10:34 to be arugula, cheese, egg, bacon, and some avocado pesto.
10:39 I like that.
10:40 Delicious.
10:41 And I know that you can order this on the app, too, which is one of my favorite things
10:43 that it's so nice and easy, you guys have an app to order off of, which is great.
10:46 Yeah, absolutely, and then you can do curbside, online pickup, skip the line.
10:50 Great.
10:51 Put the baby in the car, just drive right up, you guys bring it out to me, I don't even
10:53 have to get out of the car, that's great.
10:55 Perfect, and the last thing in this Golden Heart juice is going to be a little bit of
10:58 salt, just to give it, so it kicks up the hydration and a little bit of the, it'll
11:03 give it a little bit more flavor.
11:05 Okay.
11:06 And then, you know what, I think I made enough for both of you guys to try.
11:08 I love it.
11:09 If you both are up for it.
11:10 I would love to try this.
11:12 There we go.
11:13 Golden Heart.
11:14 Oh, cheers.
11:15 Cheers.
11:16 Happy Juice Week.
11:17 Happy Juice Week, Drew.
11:18 Thank you for being here with us.
11:19 This all looks absolutely incredible, amazing, I love a good juice.
11:21 And thank you so much to the original Chop Shop for sponsoring this segment.
11:24 Stick around, we have more of the mix after this.
11:25 All right, I'm trying it.
11:26 It's really good.
11:26 It's really good.
11:44 There's nothing better than helping animals have a great home, and that's why I'm standing
11:49 here with Danielle Betterman today to talk about Better Piggies Rescue.
11:54 Yes.
11:56 So this is something that's so cool and unique.
11:57 Danielle, tell us a little bit about what you guys do.
11:59 Yeah, so Better Piggies Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit.
12:02 Our goal is to rescue, rehabilitate, and educate the public on pot-bellied pigs.
12:07 We also do adoptions as well.
12:09 Okay, so the coolest thing is that not a lot of people know that pigs are actually really
12:15 intelligent, they're really smart, and they're great pets.
12:18 Yeah, wonderful pets.
12:19 They are so loving.
12:21 They respond so quickly to their person, to other animals.
12:25 Not for everybody, of course, but if you get them into the right home, it's a great fit.
12:30 Okay, and we have to talk about the star of the show here.
12:33 Yes.
12:34 This is Captain Hook.
12:35 Tell us a little bit about him.
12:36 So Captain Hook came to us.
12:37 He was a bait pig for fighting dogs.
12:40 So he was rescued by us, and he's just really living his best life at Better Piggies, loving
12:45 his best friend, Barbara, and he gets to hang out with over 178 pigs at the sanctuary.
12:52 That's so, so cool.
12:54 And yet, this is a very unique thing.
12:56 We were just talking about it, that helping any animals is obviously beautiful, but this
13:00 is a unique thing that you guys are doing.
13:02 Not everybody is helping out with hogs and pigs.
13:05 Correct.
13:06 Tell us where you find most of your animals.
13:08 So a lot of them come from neglect cases, abandonment, and abuse cases.
13:13 We are one of the biggest pot-bellied pig rescues in Arizona.
13:19 We share that with Ironwood Pig Sanctuary in Marana, but we are a close-knit community
13:25 of rescuers and sanctuaries, and our goal, yeah, is to rescue and rehabilitate all these
13:30 pigs that people are just dumping because they're too big or they don't get them spayed
13:35 and neutered, so that's where we come in and we take care of them.
13:38 Okay, I love this.
13:39 So tell me a little bit more about making the beautiful barn, because this is where
13:44 they're all going to go to live.
13:45 They're going to live out their fabulous lives, like you were saying.
13:48 How is that going?
13:50 It's projected for March, yes?
13:51 Yeah, so we are fundraising right now.
13:53 We're going through March.
13:54 Our goal is to raise $15,000 to build a barn.
13:57 It's a great opportunity for us to get more pigs in, more pigs to rescue, and then it's
14:03 a place for them to recover from spays and neuters, any sort of rescue attempts that
14:09 come in.
14:10 We're able to kind of isolate them a little bit in there just to see how they're acting.
14:14 It's a great opportunity for us to kind of grow our rescue and rescue more pigs.
14:19 And that's the goal, is to rescue more pigs.
14:22 Okay, so the goal is $20,000, is that correct?
14:24 $15,000, but we'll take $20,000, too.
14:27 Okay, perfect.
14:28 Yes, that's good.
14:29 Then the goal is $20,000.
14:30 Yeah, exactly.
14:31 How do people get involved?
14:32 How do they donate?
14:33 How do they volunteer?
14:34 All of that stuff.
14:35 So the best thing is to go to betterpiggiesrescue.org.
14:36 We do tours every month.
14:38 We also need volunteers, so we do volunteer orientations.
14:42 And then if you want to donate to the barn or just to a pig like Captain Hook, you can
14:49 go to the website and you can find out all the details on how to do that.
14:53 So you can pick a specific pig that you want to donate for.
14:55 Yeah, you can sponsor a pig.
14:57 You can sponsor Captain Hook and you sponsor him every month.
15:00 That's a donation that goes directly towards him.
15:02 Okay, so I noticed you were giving him some treats.
15:05 What is that?
15:06 What do pigs eat?
15:07 We got some dried mangoes right here.
15:09 Pigs eat a ton of potbelly pig food, hay, and then they love fruits and veggies.
15:14 That's their favorite.
15:15 So dried mangoes are the thing.
15:17 They love fruits and veggies.
15:18 Yes.
15:19 Oh, wow.
15:20 Okay, so they're actually healthy.
15:21 Could I feed him?
15:22 Of course.
15:23 Here you go.
15:24 So if I put this out, he'll just take it out of my hand?
15:25 Just give it to him right there and he'll take a little bite.
15:27 Oh, good job, Captain.
15:29 He's the best boy.
15:30 He is so sweet.
15:31 All right, so betterpiggiesrescue.org.
15:34 Correct.
15:35 To learn more and to donate.
15:36 Yep, and they can go to any of our socials.
15:38 It's @betterpiggies.
15:40 Great.
15:41 This is so cool.
15:42 Thank you for being here and being our star, Captain Hook.
15:44 All right, guys, stick around because we've got more of the Mix coming up after this.
15:47 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
15:57 Welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
16:00 Yes.
16:01 Still to come, ASU fashion students are making their mark on the world and we are getting
16:05 a look at their style.
16:07 Oh, that's really nice.
16:08 There they are.
16:09 Yes, very stylish.
16:10 So, plus, if you are on the coverage, Soul Surgery is here to talk about how different
16:15 treatments can help you on your journey, which are very important when you are trying to,
16:20 of course, fight that addiction of any type.
16:23 Mm-hmm.
16:24 Yeah.
16:25 So, I'm excited that they are there for those people and they help in that because it's
16:28 a tough journey for sure.
16:29 It is.
16:30 So, that's really cool.
16:31 All right, let's do some trending.
16:32 Brought to you by Gerber and Gerlach.
16:33 I want to thank them for sponsoring this segment where we talk about things around the Internet,
16:37 social media websites, our own backyard, and a little dog rescue.
16:41 Yeah, so this is really cool and I love that this was here in Arizona.
16:45 This was local.
16:46 An Arizona Humane Society emergency tech rescued a Waymariner and these are the cutest dogs
16:53 from a car engine.
16:54 So, this is a great reminder as well that, you know, we were warming up a little bit,
16:59 but we're going to cool down again.
17:01 Stray animals, usually cats, but sometimes dogs, will crawl into your car engine when
17:07 they are cold, when they are looking for shelter.
17:10 So, something that they always tell you to do is to knock on the hood of your car before
17:15 you start it when it's cold outside, just in case there's any critters hanging out in
17:19 there.
17:20 So, this puppy, this puppy pup was in there after chasing a cat and the cat went up inside
17:24 the engine.
17:25 And thankfully, Arizona Humane Society techs were able to save him and now he is up for
17:30 adoption.
17:31 So, I would say go to their website and check it out and you can see cute pictures there
17:36 and maybe even see if he hasn't been snatched up yet.
17:38 I don't know, maybe you can bring him home and be your new best friend.
17:41 So, thank you to them for saving another beautiful life.
17:43 I'm going to be honest, if I go and knock on my hood of my car and something comes out,
17:48 I'm screaming like a girl.
17:49 I'm not going to lie.
17:50 You're going to go hide?
17:51 I'm that kind of guy.
17:52 I'm no hiding.
17:53 I will scream like a girl if we see anything.
17:55 Well, speaking of doggies, how about this?
17:57 I just found the 20 lovable low maintenance dog breeds that you can have.
18:02 They're called a cat.
18:03 There you go.
18:04 The most low maintenance pet.
18:05 And the second is over.
18:06 Of course, everyone is looking for easy dogs to take care of that don't take a lot of maintenance
18:15 or anything like that and you don't need to really be outside too much or anything.
18:18 So, here goes a couple of my favorite ones.
18:20 An Italian greyhound we have.
18:23 We have a pug.
18:24 That is actually a, that's the, Dotson.
18:28 Dotson, the pug.
18:30 They're looking at Labrador Retrievers.
18:32 My favorite that I have, I have Maltese.
18:34 So, I love my Maltese.
18:36 West Highland White Terrier.
18:40 But yeah, they're saying some of Shih Tzu is another one.
18:43 A Basset Hound.
18:45 What is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?
18:48 Okay, I know this because of Sex and the City.
18:50 A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel.
18:54 What is it?
18:55 Yeah, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
18:57 Yes, so it's the dog that Charlotte has.
19:00 If anybody out there watches Sex and the City, it's the dog that Charlotte has.
19:03 They're like the super cute, tiny, white and brown dogs with the big floppy ears.
19:08 Got it.
19:09 But they're really petite.
19:10 They're so cute.
19:11 So, there you go.
19:12 And then people with Chihuahuas too.
19:13 Beagles.
19:14 Beagles.
19:15 So, those are easy.
19:16 Those are the kind of dogs that are low maintenance.
19:17 You don't have to worry about them.
19:18 You don't have to really go outside or anything.
19:19 Nice.
19:20 I don't know.
19:21 I'm thinking about getting a big dog.
19:22 Don't you already have two dogs, Brad?
19:23 I have two little dogs, but then I was like, I'm thinking about getting a big dog.
19:26 I'm thinking about getting a Greyhound.
19:28 A Greyhound?
19:29 But those are really big dogs.
19:31 Yeah, those are big dogs.
19:32 Or Dr. Rizek has this beautiful black dog.
19:34 I'm having trouble with the picture of it.
19:36 Is it a Lab?
19:37 No, it's something else.
19:38 And the hair is very like rough kind of.
19:41 Oh man, I wish I knew what it was.
19:43 We're going to find out.
19:44 Not a Chow?
19:45 No, no, it's a big dog.
19:46 Okay.
19:47 It's a big dog that he had gotten from the breeder in Florida.
19:51 I guess that's where they breed these really big dogs.
19:53 Adopt, don't shop people.
19:55 That's true too.
19:57 So, I will.
19:58 But if you had to, would you get a dog?
19:59 Would Arlo want a dog or is he going to stay a cat?
20:01 No, I think we'd get a dog, but we are in a condo still, so we don't have a huge outdoor
20:06 space.
20:07 So, you'd get a big baby.
20:08 There you go.
20:09 No big deal.
20:10 Perfect.
20:11 So, when you lived in New York, weren't you surprised that people had those big dogs?
20:14 You know, like what kind of place do you live?
20:16 In apartments?
20:17 I know.
20:18 I always thought that.
20:19 And it's like, I get like having a dog in the city is still cool and you could still take
20:22 them on walks and they still like live a great life and everything.
20:25 I just always feel like I would want to have a big backyard, a place for them to go run
20:30 around.
20:31 Right.
20:32 But they say the great thing is they stay in one spot.
20:33 They eat everything, but they stay in one spot when they camp out and that's like their
20:37 spot which is a big spot.
20:39 I'm alright without a great day in my life as of right now.
20:43 So, anyways.
20:44 Alright, while the exact time frame for cold and flu season may vary each year, December
20:48 to February is when flu activity really peaks.
20:51 Yeah, back in October, Manic Manage Mom, that's a mouthful, Rachel Harris, shared some tips
20:56 to keep your health in check and we're bringing those tips here again to remind you to stay
21:01 healthy.
21:02 Cold and flu season can be brutal if you are not prepared with the right healthy habits.
21:09 Well, Manic Manage Mom, Rachel Harris is here to tell us about some unique items you need
21:15 to help protect your sickness and of course being sick.
21:20 But the Manic Manage Mom, Rachel Harris, or just, you can say Ma.
21:26 You can say Ma.
21:27 You can say Ma.
21:28 And I know it's a tongue twister.
21:29 Yes.
21:30 But I love it.
21:31 Manic Manage.
21:32 So, this is cold and flu season and if you have these things on hand, if illness strikes
21:35 you, you can strike back.
21:37 You don't have to run to the store.
21:38 I love that.
21:39 So, this is what I do.
21:40 And I just got sick about a month ago with a bad sinus infection, so I was reminded why
21:42 I do this segment every year.
21:44 So, let's start with my mantra.
21:46 I call it the dream routine.
21:48 It is D for de-stress, R for get your rest, E for eat well, you are what you eat, A for
21:54 stay active, you've got to exercise, and M for MD, get that annual physical.
21:58 When I follow this, most of the time, knock on wood, I stay pretty well.
22:01 So, that's what I follow.
22:02 I love that.
22:03 That's a good way to remember.
22:04 That's so smart.
22:05 And what a great acronym.
22:06 Yeah, that's great.
22:07 Okay, so we're in our next thing.
22:08 Okay, so those tissues, smell those.
22:11 Why would I bring Kleenex, our tissues?
22:13 Because they actually have nicks in them.
22:15 Oh, yes.
22:16 And I just discovered that when I had the sinus infection, so I added that.
22:18 Okay, chicken noodle soup.
22:19 Yes.
22:20 Mom was right.
22:21 You guys, I brought soup for the whole crew today.
22:23 So, the thing about chicken noodle soup is there's properties in the chicken noodle that
22:28 helps to thin the nasal passages, which helps to break the mucus up out of the throat and
22:34 nose, right?
22:35 Really?
22:36 Yes.
22:37 And also, when you're sick, you don't feel hungry, but chicken noodle soup always tastes
22:38 good.
22:39 And I told, and I said, Rachel, I said, Rachel, Lexi needs to learn how to make chicken noodle
22:44 soup because of you.
22:45 Yes, because I'm a mom now.
22:46 So, I need your recipe.
22:47 I need your mom.
22:48 And if you make the perfect chicken noodle soup, your child will stay underneath your
22:51 finger for the rest of your life.
22:52 There you go.
22:53 See?
22:54 Very good tip.
22:55 All right, let's talk about sinus soothers.
22:56 Okay.
22:57 Here's another thing I'd like you to smell.
22:58 So, I found this years ago.
22:59 It's Kynep, but it's eucalyptus.
23:00 You can put it in your bath.
23:01 They have a bath oil.
23:02 Oh, that smells so nice.
23:03 Just smelling it, you feel your sinuses open up straight.
23:06 Oh, yeah.
23:07 Eucalyptus.
23:08 Yes.
23:09 And then, I am a big fan of homeopathic medicine.
23:11 My mom raised me that way.
23:12 My favorite brand is Boron.
23:14 This is sinus calm.
23:16 And what I love about that, it relieves sinus pressure, nasal congestion, sinus headache,
23:21 but it's non-drowsy, and it's a melt-away tablet.
23:24 I brought these little tablets, so you don't even need water.
23:27 So, it's great for travel as well.
23:28 Wow.
23:29 And you can get those at CVS, natural grocers, Whole Foods, and Sprouts.
23:33 Great.
23:34 Yeah.
23:35 Okay, let's talk about sore throat solutions.
23:36 So, Boron also has a new product.
23:39 This is their Throat Calm Spray, and I love that because it's made with plant-based ingredients,
23:44 including echinacea.
23:46 It will not numb you and has a nice, mint herbal flavor.
23:49 Nice.
23:50 No artificial flavors, colors, or dyes.
23:52 You can get that at Amazon or at boronusa.com because it's so new, it hasn't even hit the
23:57 store shelves yet.
23:58 Oh, wow.
23:59 So, we love that.
24:00 Okay, now being hosts, you're a singer, throat coat is the tea I always use.
24:04 I don't like how it tastes.
24:05 I don't either.
24:06 But it works.
24:07 It does work.
24:08 I'll admit.
24:09 Yeah, if you're in a voice-demanding job.
24:10 Now, Manuka Honey.
24:11 Now, let me tell you something as a new mom.
24:14 Never give a baby, you might know this as a parent, a baby a year or under, never give
24:18 honey because it could cause botulism.
24:19 Wow.
24:20 See?
24:21 I didn't know that.
24:22 New mom tip.
24:23 Thank you.
24:24 Yeah.
24:25 Wow, I'm so glad my kids are 30 and 26.
24:26 It's a lot of work, isn't it?
24:27 Oh, my goodness.
24:28 But Manuka Honey is going to cost you more, but even my pediatrician knew about it for
24:32 the older kids.
24:33 A spoonful of it if you start to feel bad or put it in that tea as well.
24:37 You will pay more, but I do recommend Manuka Honey.
24:39 Interesting.
24:40 Okay.
24:41 Alright, skin smoothers because in the dry climate in the winter, our skin gets rough.
24:45 So, I love this stuff.
24:47 It's called Calendula by Boron and it's a first aid ointment that promotes healing,
24:52 but I also use it for chapped lips.
24:55 And also, if you're suffering from eczema, oatmeal packets, throw it in your bath.
24:59 And also, some good old olive oil to smooth on your skin and your cuticles.
25:02 There it is.
25:03 Oh, that's so smart.
25:04 I love that.
25:05 I love it.
25:06 And also, the other part that I love that moms do, can you feel my forehead, mom?
25:11 Can you just feel my forehead?
25:12 Yeah, and we do it like this.
25:13 See?
25:14 Lexi is now in the mom club.
25:15 The back of the hand.
25:16 The back of the hand.
25:17 Alright, Rachel, where can people find all the information?
25:18 I've got all the links at managedmoms.com on my blog.
25:22 Thanks for having me and you guys be well.
25:23 Tis the season, unfortunately.
25:25 Ma, can I get some more soup?
25:26 Ma!
25:27 We need some more chicken noodle soup, mom.
25:28 Alright, stick around.
25:29 We'll be right back after this.
25:30 This is really good.
25:31 ASU is known as being a hub for research, medical advancements, and now fashion.
25:47 We are so excited to welcome the creators of Planet Chic.
25:50 Alexia Hill and Katie Tracy here to tell us more.
25:54 Welcome ladies.
25:55 Thank you for being here.
25:56 Thank you for having us.
25:57 Thank you.
25:58 Okay, so I want to start first by telling our viewers a little bit about the fashion
26:02 magazine that's there on campus.
26:04 So kind of walk us through what that is.
26:08 Yeah, so the Chic Daily is ASU Cronkite's fashion journalism publication.
26:13 We do a physical imprint magazine every semester and we do a digital publication and of course
26:18 we do annual events such as Planet Chic, the fashion show.
26:21 This is so fantastic because you're definitely bringing the students there on campus a real
26:26 sense, a real pulse of what's going on in the fashion world, which is something that
26:29 you both have your finger on the pulse of like we were just saying.
26:33 So tell us a little bit about the fashion show itself, Planet Chic.
26:37 What does that kind of mean?
26:38 What does that represent?
26:39 Yeah, so that idea has kind of been brewing in our heads for about a year now, honestly.
26:44 We do a themed show every year and the ticket proceeds go to a non-profit.
26:48 Oh, that's great.
26:50 But really the biggest thing is just that we're trying to highlight those student models,
26:53 designers, stylists, hair and makeup artists.
26:56 And so we actually have one of our student designers right here.
27:00 That's great.
27:01 Okay, so yes, this is something that's really fun.
27:04 You get to put your designs out there for everyone to see.
27:08 And the Planet Chic theme, I know kind of is like a futuristic theme, kind of something
27:13 kind of unique and different.
27:14 So what are some of the styles, maybe yours, maybe other designers that people are going
27:18 to see on the runway?
27:19 Well, I mean, this is one of the looks that I made and I actually made this in a class
27:23 and I incorporated like zero waste patterns and like sustainability in it.
27:29 But yeah, everything I've made has just been, I wanted to be out of this world as if like
27:33 these little like characters came onto earth and just had a little fashion show.
27:37 So yeah.
27:38 Hence the title, Planet Chic.
27:39 No, I love that.
27:41 That really all ties together very, very well.
27:43 That's really cool, really fun.
27:45 And I know there's so much great stuff going on.
27:47 This is also part of your dissertation, is that correct?
27:51 Yes.
27:52 So this is my Barrett, the Honors College thesis as well.
27:55 So I'm kind of pulling the Chic's annual event in tandem with what I really love, which is
28:00 event production, public relations.
28:02 So all of the media campaigns, all of the branding that's been directed by the Chic
28:06 and by me.
28:07 And it's just been so fun to see everyone get so passionate about their own pieces to
28:11 it, like our clothing.
28:13 This is also a student designer.
28:14 This is Nick's crossing and everyone's inspirations are just so different to see.
28:20 He really focuses on like the desert landscape and the way that that plays into science fiction
28:24 films.
28:25 And so it's just amazing to see.
28:28 It all ties together.
28:29 And something that's great is that we do have a couple of models here today to kind of highlight
28:33 some of the type of things that you're going to see there at the show.
28:37 So why don't ladies, we take a step back and we can invite our first model out here for
28:41 us.
28:42 So would one of you like to kind of tell us what she's wearing?
28:44 So this is actually also a look that I made.
28:47 The jacket I made in a construction class for one of my classes last term.
28:53 And then I made the dress for the show in particular.
28:58 And yeah, I just wanted to have a little piece of like my own style and the things that I
29:03 make, but just make it for the show and something fun for everyone.
29:07 Go ahead and turn around as well because I want everyone to see how beautifully crafted
29:12 this piece is.
29:13 I mean, this is a jacket that if you wore this out, this would be definitely a show
29:17 stopper.
29:18 People would not be able to stop talking about it.
29:20 And I feel like it's incredibly well made.
29:21 It's really beautiful.
29:23 Every little detail is there.
29:25 This is just so cool.
29:26 This would be stunning on the runway.
29:28 I love it.
29:29 Okay, thank you so much.
29:30 Let's go ahead and have our second model come out.
29:32 Yes.
29:33 So this is Olivia, our president of The Chic actually.
29:36 And she's wearing Alejandra's designs.
29:39 Alejandra did the hand marbling dye process for this dress.
29:43 Wow.
29:44 Made it herself.
29:45 And she really focuses in on that retro futuristic, kind of 50s almost inspiration for it.
29:51 So maybe a 50s housewife alien kind of vibe.
29:54 I was going to say, it's giving me Stepford Wives, but in a good way.
29:58 I love this look.
29:59 It's very cool.
30:00 Beautiful.
30:01 Very, very chic.
30:02 I feel like it would be a show stopper on the runway.
30:05 I mean, everybody who sees this is just going to have their jaws on the floor because it's
30:08 so incredibly beautiful and such a unique, fun look.
30:11 All right, thank you so much.
30:12 So tell everybody where they can find more information and get tickets to come see the
30:16 show.
30:17 Yeah, you can find more information on our Instagram @thechicdaily and you can get tickets
30:20 on our website, thechicdaily.com.
30:21 Nice and easy.
30:22 So hope to see everyone there.
30:24 Absolutely.
30:25 I love that.
30:26 Okay, well ladies, thank you so much to our models and both of you, Katie and Alexia.
30:29 Thank you for being here.
30:30 All right guys, stick around because we have more of The Mix coming up after this.
30:50 Soul Surgery has a unique approach to drug and alcohol recovery using an intrigued, integrated
30:54 approach involving chiropractic treatment and rehabilitation.
30:57 Here to tell us more about Soul Surgery and the treatment is Blaine Archer and Dr. Blackstone.
31:02 How are you two doing today?
31:03 Doing great.
31:04 Great.
31:05 Thank you for having us.
31:06 Blaine, let's talk about Soul Surgery and of course the treatments and stuff that you
31:09 do to make sure people are on that right journey to recovery.
31:12 Yeah, so we offer the full continuum for those who struggle with substance abuse and mental
31:17 health and that serves with residential all the way down to outpatient.
31:21 And we have perfected the art of integrating Eastern and Western medicine under one centralized
31:27 roof and that's what we take pride on is the care and the services that we provide.
31:35 It greatly increases the chances of success.
31:38 And that's very important for people to have that success the way you guys are doing it
31:43 because some places are pretty much as a consultation kind of and to kind of guide you that way.
31:48 But you guys take it to another step and that is where of course making sure they're getting
31:52 the right treatments in a certain way.
31:54 One is chiropractic treatment that people don't understand Dr. Blackstone that is a
31:58 very big way of helping people get to that journey of recovery.
32:02 It is Brad.
32:04 I found that when John Mulligan, our CEO and founder had the foresight to bring me on board,
32:13 it seemed a really logical choice because a lot of people kind of start their journey
32:18 of addiction because they're in a lot of pain.
32:21 And one of the things that of course chiropractic does is we're able to kind of help and reduce
32:27 the person's pain through various techniques and as well as exercises.
32:34 And of course we do a very thorough job there using x-ray.
32:39 So we're able to actually see if there's any structural issues and hopefully get to
32:44 the point where they can really manage their health better.
32:47 Yeah, something that's so important that you said right there and that is to take care
32:50 of the pain because that is one reason why people do get addiction is from a car accident
32:55 or from some type of injury and they start taking the prescription drugs or even self-medicating
33:01 themselves.
33:02 And that is why you say, you know what, we're going to help you find that pain and take
33:06 care of it.
33:07 And it does come into our backs in our different areas.
33:10 Yeah, there's actually been several studies that show that chiropractic care helps reduce
33:15 the use of opioids or the likelihood that someone will actually utilize their prescription,
33:21 which is fantastic.
33:22 And, you know, we take an approach that we're not just looking of course pain, we're looking
33:28 at the overall balance and how their lifestyle so that they can continue on with their sobriety
33:33 and utilize the various techniques that we show them, exercise, diet, you know, and of
33:39 course they have access to all these other modalities as well.
33:42 And Blayne, that's again what the programs that you guys offer is to give people those
33:46 guidance.
33:47 But I love that it's not just one program for everybody.
33:51 You sit with them and talk with them because one person might need the chiropractic treatment
33:55 or they might need a different type of treatment and that's where you guys do make sure that
33:59 they're getting the right things.
34:00 Absolutely.
34:01 So there is a intake process when they arrive to the facility, right?
34:05 They're greeted, welcomed and then there's a process where they meet with, you know,
34:09 the case managers and meet with nursing, they meet with psych, they meet with the doctor,
34:13 they meet with clinical.
34:14 So they go through all of these, you know, stages and each department is doing their
34:19 own observation and taking notes.
34:22 So when they get done with the intake, we know exactly, you know, what they're struggling
34:26 with, what we need to work on, what traumas.
34:29 And we have a history of, you know, the history of their use and their families.
34:35 So therefore we can develop a better treatment plan.
34:37 Yeah, that's again too.
34:38 Again, it's where you know that they're at this point, but you guys step back before
34:42 they got to that point to help them go forward into recovery and putting the different things
34:47 in together.
34:48 And so, and that's the main thing.
34:49 I want to get back to, of course, the chiropractic part to this.
34:54 And again, how you do that because you pretty much will pinpoint the pain in different ways
34:58 and help them straighten yourself out.
35:00 And it helps quite a bit.
35:01 Right.
35:02 So when they come in, they have a full medical.
35:04 So everything's cleared from that perspective.
35:07 By the time I see them, I do another really thorough chiropractic exam, take x-rays if
35:12 need be.
35:13 And then basically what we do is try and develop a program for them based on their history
35:17 because everybody comes in different, of course.
35:20 And what we try and do is personalize it just like we were talking about.
35:25 And then really the best outcomes I've seen are really that when people utilize all of
35:32 the services that we have available, including, of course, the chiropractic exercise.
35:38 We have a full gym there where they can do yoga and we have weight machines.
35:43 And so we're able to really help them get better and stay better.
35:47 Yeah.
35:48 And we know, Blayne, that people having a regimen of exercising and getting healthy
35:53 is one of the best ways for recovery.
35:56 Absolutely.
35:57 And it's a mind, body, and soul.
36:00 You have to be mentally, emotionally prepared, right?
36:04 And then the physical aspect as well.
36:06 It's a full circle there.
36:10 Thank you, doctor.
36:11 Thank you, Blayne, for coming in.
36:12 Of course, if you want more information on soul surgery, the information is right there
36:15 on the screen.
36:16 Also, you can go to aztv.com.
36:17 Thank you for being here.
36:18 Soul Surgery, for sponsoring that segment.

36:19 Thank you to Margaritaville Hotels and Resorts for sponsoring this segment.
36:45 How can we make the winter season more memorable through travel?
36:48 Well, last week, Brad talked with Tamara Valdezana-Decker, Margaritaville CMO, and
36:53 Sarah Dandeshi, travel and hospitality expert, to discuss the top travel trends for the winter
36:59 season.
37:00 Good morning, ladies.
37:01 How are you?
37:02 Good morning.
37:03 Good morning.
37:04 Good morning.
37:05 This is great talking to the two of you because it is travel season and people are looking
37:12 to get away.
37:13 So let's start with you, Sarah, on, of course, your prediction of the top travel trends for
37:18 the winter season and beyond.
37:20 Yeah, definitely.
37:21 So what we're seeing this winter, a lot of people are taking advantage of quick weekend
37:25 getaways and that's so wonderful because people are leaning into more road trips, maybe doing
37:31 staycations, finding new destinations that maybe aren't too far away because you can
37:35 actually relax and unplug in just a quick weekend trip.
37:39 So it's nice to see people are doing that.
37:41 We're also seeing a lot of families taking advantage of skip generation travel.
37:46 And what's that?
37:47 It's parents and grandkids going on a vacation together, creating these new memories.
37:52 And it's so wonderful when we happen to be in a Margaritaville, which is a great place
37:55 to do that.
37:57 And then one of my favorite things we're seeing, too, is cool-cations.
38:01 So leaning into the winter spirit, going to these cool destinations, and maybe they're
38:07 going skiing.
38:08 And we happen to be here in Lake Tahoe, which is...
38:11 Check, check, check.
38:12 Exactly.
38:13 I think we just checked off all of the trends right here.
38:16 Right here.
38:17 I like it.
38:18 Hey, Tamara, you know, she just said you guys are there at the Margaritaville Resort in
38:21 Tahoe, Lake Tahoe.
38:22 Lake Tahoe, yeah.
38:23 What are some of the experiences that people can do when they visit?
38:28 Okay.
38:29 Where do they get?
38:30 I don't know if we have enough time, but there's so much to do.
38:34 So if you've ever been to a Margaritaville Resort, it's all about fun and escapism, right?
38:39 You come in, it's fun on your terms, whatever you want to do.
38:43 If you want to have a drink at the bar, great.
38:45 If you want to go out...
38:46 Go skiing.
38:47 Go skiing, great.
38:48 But here in Lake Tahoe, again, you think of Margaritaville as a beach location with palm
38:53 trees and views.
38:54 Well, it's kind of the same thing here.
38:57 There are no palm trees, but there are these beautiful mountains.
39:00 The view is incredible.
39:02 Lake Tahoe, I mean, my goodness, it is gorgeous here.
39:06 But you can also run around the hotel, swim in the indoor pool.
39:10 There's so much.
39:11 The lobby has a fun theme.
39:12 You've got a little bar.
39:13 Fireplace.
39:14 Fireplace, yeah.
39:15 I mean, it's really comfortable.
39:17 We went out and walked around the little village last night.
39:21 It was so much fun.
39:22 There were candy shops and cookie stores.
39:24 I know it's all about food, but we were hungry.
39:27 It's always about food.
39:30 There's all of this stuff to do around, but you also need to leave the property.
39:33 We've got a JWB Steakhouse, which is absolutely incredible.
39:37 We've got a Landshark Bar and Grill that overlooks the road, and there's all of this really cool...
39:42 You can see all the activity, a little bit more casual.
39:44 You can get a hot coffee at our Joe Merchant's in the morning.
39:50 So there's no lack of food or drink.
39:52 Yeah, that's for sure.
39:53 And again, if you want to get out and exercise, there's plenty of places to hike and ski and
39:58 snowboard and all that stuff.
40:00 I mean, you're not going to be bored, but if you want to just be lazy, we've got places
40:04 for you to do that.
40:05 Yeah, you could totally rely.
40:08 That's awesome.
40:09 But let's talk also, too, that I know you have the Lake Tahoe Margaritaville, but there's
40:13 a lot of the West Coast destinations here, too, like San Diego, Palm Springs.
40:18 And so are those great to go check out, too?
40:21 Oh my gosh.
40:22 San Diego is incredible.
40:24 I was there a couple of weeks ago, and it is just beautiful.
40:28 And a great location.
40:29 It's a great location.
40:30 It's a block away from Petco Park, or a couple of blocks.
40:32 I mean, it's just a few-minute walk.
40:36 It's beautiful.
40:37 And it's just, you know, we have been traditionally, again, sort of Southeast Florida, Caribbean
40:42 brand, but people kept saying, "Well, when are you going to be on the West Coast?
40:46 When are you going to be on the West Coast?"
40:48 So we changed it up a little bit.
40:50 The vibe's a little bit different.
40:51 It feels a little bit more West Coast.
40:53 It's just like all of our properties.
40:55 What we do is people go to destinations for a reason.
40:57 They come to Lake Tahoe for a reason.
40:59 They go to San Diego for a reason.
41:01 They go to Palm Springs for a reason.
41:03 So we like to capture some of that spirit in the resort experience.
41:06 So it's not going to feel like you're in a Caribbean location, but you are going to
41:10 feel like you sort of have that island edge.
41:13 Yeah, totally.
41:14 Totally.
41:15 So, I mean, it's just, we're so excited to be on the West Coast.
41:20 People have been, just the feedback has been incredible.
41:23 So who knows?
41:24 We may have 10 more soon.
41:26 But for now, you've got to get to Lake Tahoe, because this is our first ski resort.
41:30 And it is incredible.
41:31 Just talk.
41:32 That's good.
41:33 All right, as we wrap up, Sarah, I've got to ask you, because you do a lot of the solo
41:37 trips out there.
41:39 And so what do you recommend for friends and family when they do this?
41:43 What tips do you have?
41:44 Yeah, so, I mean, I think the number one thing is start with choosing a great and fun hotel.
41:50 That's where your vacation starts.
41:52 Obviously, Margaritaville totally ties into that.
41:54 I've stayed in many properties when I've been.
41:56 Yeah, I mean, there are others.
41:57 But, you know, that's a good home base.
42:00 A good way to start your trip.
42:01 But then other things, keep in mind, explore the destination.
42:05 Go on maybe a bike tour.
42:07 Just find creative ways to just experience and immerse yourself in the destination.
42:11 And then ultimately, you're on a trip.
42:14 You're on a vacation.
42:15 Actually, unplug.
42:16 And so find what's right for you and take that moment to really reset.
42:20 I like it.
42:21 Ladies, this is awesome.
42:22 Where can they find more information?
42:26 You can go to margaritaville.com or margaritavilleresorts.com.
42:30 And you get all of the information.
42:32 You can book direct and we'll have a room waiting for you.
42:35 I like it.
42:36 And I want to tell you, ladies, some people say, you know, there's a woman involved in
42:41 fault.
42:42 But it's my own.
42:43 That's right.
42:44 But it's our own darn fault.
42:45 Thank you, ladies.
42:46 Thank you, Brad.
42:47 I want to thank you to Margaritaville Hotels and Resorts for sponsoring that segment.
