00:00 All right, while the exact timeframe for cold and flu season may vary each year, December
00:06 to February is when flu activity really peaks.
00:09 Yeah, back in October, Manic Manage Mom, that's a mouthful, Rachel Harris, shared some tips
00:14 to keep your health in check.
00:16 And we're bringing those tips here again to remind you to stay healthy.
00:22 Cold and flu season can be brutal if you are not prepared with the right healthy habits.
00:27 So Manic Manage Mom, Rachel Harris is here to tell us about some unique items you need
00:33 to help protect your sickness and of course being sick.
00:38 But the Manic Manage Mom, Rachel Harris, or just you can say Ma.
00:44 You can say Ma.
00:45 And I know it's a tongue twister, but I love it.
00:48 Manic Manage.
00:49 Okay, so we're going to start with, you know, it's cold and flu season.
00:50 And if you have these things on hand, if illness strikes you, you can strike back.
00:55 You don't have to run to the store.
00:56 So this is what I do.
00:57 And I just got sick about a month ago with a bad sinus infection.
00:59 So I was reminded why I do this segment every year.
01:02 So let's start with my mantra.
01:04 I call it the dream routine.
01:06 It is D for de-stress, R for get your rest, E for eat well, you are what you eat, A for
01:12 stay active, you've got to exercise, and M for MD, get that annual physical.
01:16 When I follow this, most of the time, knock on wood, I stay pretty well.
01:19 So that's what I follow.
01:20 I love that.
01:21 That's a good way to remember.
01:22 That's so smart.
01:23 And what a great acronym.
01:24 Yeah, that's great.
01:25 Okay, so we're in the next thing.
01:26 So those tissues, smell those.
01:27 Why would I bring Kleenex or tissues?
01:31 Because they actually have vicks in them.
01:33 And I just discovered that when I had the sinus infection, so I added that.
01:36 Okay, chicken noodle soup.
01:37 Yes.
01:38 Mom was right.
01:39 You guys, I brought soup for the whole crew today.
01:41 So the thing about chicken noodle soup is there's properties in the chicken noodle that
01:46 helps to fend the nasal passages, which helps to break the mucus up out of the throat and
01:52 nose, right?
01:53 And also when you're sick, you don't feel hungry, but chicken noodle soup always tastes
01:56 good.
01:57 And I told, and I said, Rachel, I said, Rachel, Lexi needs to learn how to make chicken noodle
02:02 soup because of you.
02:03 Yes, because I'm a mom now.
02:04 So I need your, I need your recipe.
02:05 And if you make the perfect chicken noodle soup, your child will stay underneath your
02:09 finger for the rest of your life.
02:10 There you go.
02:11 See, very good tip.
02:12 All right, let's talk about sinus soothers.
02:14 Here's another thing I'd like you to smell.
02:16 So I found this years ago, it's K'Nep, but it's eucalyptus.
02:19 You can put it in your bath.
02:20 They have bath oil.
02:21 Oh, that smells so nice.
02:22 Just smelling it, you feel your sinuses open up straight.
02:25 And yes.
02:26 And again, I am a big fan of homeopathic medicine.
02:29 My mom raised me that way.
02:30 My favorite brand is Boron.
02:32 This is sinus calm.
02:34 And what I love about that, it relieves sinus pressure, nasal congestion, sinus headache,
02:39 but it's non-drowsy and it's a melt away tablet.
02:42 I brought these little tablets so you don't even need water.
02:45 So it's great for travel as well.
02:46 And you can get those at CVS, natural grocers, Whole Foods and Sprouts.
02:51 Great.
02:52 Yeah.
02:53 Okay.
02:54 Let's talk about sore throat solutions.
02:55 Boron also has a new product.
02:57 This is their Throat Calm Spray.
02:59 And I love that because it's made with plant-based ingredients, including echinacea.
03:04 It will not numb you and has a nice mint herbal flavor.
03:08 No artificial flavors, colors, or dyes.
03:10 You can get that at Amazon or at boronusa.com because it's so new, it hasn't even hit the
03:15 store shelves yet.
03:16 So we love that.
03:17 Oh, wow.
03:18 Okay.
03:19 Now being hosts, you're a singer, throat coat is the tea I always use.
03:22 I don't like how it tastes.
03:23 I don't either.
03:24 But it works.
03:25 It does work.
03:26 I'll admit.
03:27 Yeah.
03:28 If you're in a voice-demanding job.
03:29 Now, Manuka Honey.
03:30 And let me tell you something as a new mom.
03:32 Never give a baby, you might know this as a parent, a baby a year or under, never give
03:36 honey because it could cause botulism.
03:37 Wow.
03:38 I didn't know that.
03:39 New mom tip.
03:40 Thank you.
03:41 Yeah.
03:42 I'm so glad my kids are 30 and 26 now.
03:43 I know.
03:44 It gives so much easier, doesn't it?
03:45 Oh my goodness.
03:46 But Manuka Honey is going to cost you more.
03:48 But even my pediatrician knew about it for the older kids.
03:51 A spoonful of it if you start to feel bad or put it in that tea as well.
03:55 You will pay more but I do recommend Manuka Honey.
03:57 Interesting.
03:58 Okay.
03:59 Alright.
04:00 Skin smoothers because in the dry climate in the winter, our skin gets rough.
04:03 So I love this stuff.
04:05 It's called Calendula by Boron.
04:07 And it's a first aid ointment that promotes healing.
04:10 But I also use it for chapped lips.
04:13 And also if you're suffering from eczema, oatmeal packets, throw it in your bath.
04:17 And also some good old olive oil to smooth on your skin and your cuticles.
04:20 There it is.
04:21 Oh my goodness.
04:22 That's so smart.
04:23 I love that.
04:24 I love it.
04:25 And also the other part that I love that moms do.
04:28 Can you feel my forehead, mom?
04:29 Can you just feel my forehead?
04:30 Yeah.
04:31 And we do it like this.
04:32 See?
04:33 Lexi is now in the mom club.
04:34 The back of the hand.
04:35 The back of the hand.
04:36 Alright.
04:37 Rachel, where can people find all the information?
04:38 I've got all the links at managedmoms.com on my blog.
04:40 Thanks for having me and you guys be well.
04:41 Tis the season, unfortunately.
04:42 Ma, can I get some more soup?
04:43 Ma!
04:44 We need some more chicken noodle soup, mom.
04:45 Alright.
04:46 Stick around.
04:47 We'll be right back after this.
04:48 This is really good, though.
04:49 This is really good.
04:50 This is really good.
04:51 This is really good.
04:51 I'm going to get some more.
04:52 I'm going to get some more.
04:53 I'm going to get some more.
04:54 I'm going to get some more.
04:55 I'm going to get some more.
