00:00 - Soul Surgery has a unique approach to drug and alcohol recovery using an intrigued, integrated
00:06 approach involving chiropractic treatment and rehabilitation.
00:09 Here to tell us more about Soul Surgery and the treatment is Blaine Archer and Dr. Blackstone.
00:14 How are you two doing today?
00:15 - Doing great.
00:16 - Great, thank you for having us.
00:17 - Great, let's talk about Soul Surgery and of course the treatments and stuff that you
00:21 do to make sure people are on that right journey to recovery.
00:24 - Yeah, so we offer the full continuum for those who struggle with substance abuse and
00:29 mental health and that starts with residential all the way down to outpatient.
00:33 And we have perfected the art of integrating eastern and western medicine under one centralized
00:39 roof and that's what we take pride on is the care and the services that we provide.
00:47 It greatly increases the chances of success.
00:50 - And that's very important for people to have that success the way you guys are doing
00:54 because some places are pretty much as a consultation kind of and to kind of guide you that way.
01:00 But you guys take it to another step and that is where of course making sure they're getting
01:04 the right treatments in a certain way.
01:06 One is chiropractic treatment that people don't understand, Dr. Blackstone, that is
01:10 a very big way of helping people get to that journey of recovery.
01:14 - It is, Brad.
01:16 I found that when John Mulligan, our CEO and founder, had the foresight to bring me on
01:22 board it seemed a really logical choice because a lot of people kind of start their journey
01:30 of addiction because they're in a lot of pain.
01:33 And one of the things that of course chiropractic does is we're able to kind of help and reduce
01:39 the person's pain through various techniques and as well as exercises and of course we
01:47 do a very thorough job there using x-ray so we're able to actually see if there's any
01:53 structural issues and hopefully get to the point where they can really manage their health
01:58 better.
01:59 - Yeah, something that's so important that you said right there and that is to take care
02:02 of the pain because that is one reason why people do get addiction is from a car accident
02:07 or from some type of injury and they start taking the prescription drugs or even self-medicating
02:13 themselves and that is why you say, you know what, we're gonna help you find that pain
02:18 and take care of it and it does come into our backs in our different areas.
02:22 - Yeah, there's actually been several studies that show that chiropractic care helps reduce
02:27 the use of opioids or the likelihood that someone will actually utilize their prescription
02:33 which is fantastic and we take an approach that we're not just looking of course pain,
02:39 we're looking at the overall balance and how their lifestyle so that they can continue
02:43 on with their sobriety and utilize the various techniques that we show them, exercise, diet,
02:50 you know and of course they have access to all these other modalities as well.
02:54 - And Blaine, that's again what the programs that you guys offer is to give people those
02:58 guidance, but I love that it's not just one program for everybody, you sit with them and
03:04 talk with them because one person might need the chiropractic treatment or they might need
03:08 a different type of treatment and that's where you guys do make sure that they're getting
03:11 the right things.
03:12 - Absolutely, so there's a intake process when they arrive to the facility, right, they're
03:18 greeted, welcomed and then there's a process where they meet with the case managers, they
03:22 meet with nursing, they meet with psych, they meet with the doctor, they meet with clinical,
03:26 so they go through all of these stages and each department is doing their own observation
03:33 and taking notes so when they get done with the intake, we know exactly what they're
03:38 struggling with, what we need to work on, what traumas and we have a history of, you
03:44 know, the history of their use and their families so therefore we can develop a better treatment
03:48 plan.
03:49 - Yeah, that's again too, again it's where you know that they're at this point but you
03:53 guys step back before they got to that point to help them go forward into recovery and
03:58 putting the different things in together and so, and that's the main thing.
04:01 I wanna get back to of course the chiropractic part to this.
04:06 And again, how you do that because you pretty much will pinpoint the pain in different ways
04:10 and help them straighten yourself out and it helps quite a bit.
04:13 - Right, so when they come in, they have a full medical so everything's cleared from
04:17 that perspective.
04:18 By the time I see them, I do another really thorough chiropractic exam, take x-rays if
04:23 need be and then basically what we do is try and develop a program for them based on their
04:29 history 'cause everybody comes in different of course and what we try and do is personalize
04:35 it just like we were talking about and then really the best outcomes I've seen are really
04:41 that when people utilize all of the services that we have available, you know, including
04:47 of course the chiropractic exercise.
04:50 We have a full gym there where they can do yoga and we have weight machines and so we're
04:55 able to really help them get better and stay better.
04:59 - Yeah, and we know Blaine that people having a regimen of exercising and getting healthy
05:05 is one of the best ways for recovery.
05:08 - Absolutely and it's a mind, body and soul, right?
05:12 You have to be mentally, emotionally prepared, right?
05:16 And then the physical aspect as well.
05:18 It's a full--
05:19 - Full circle there.
05:20 - Yeah.
05:21 - Thank you doctor.
05:22 - Absolutely.
05:23 - Thank you Blaine for coming in.
