00:00 "Man oh man, do I wish I were a real person!"
00:03 [Laughs]
00:05 Welcome to Ms. Mojo,
00:07 and today we're looking at the most chuckle-worthy scenes
00:09 in this outlandish pirate comedy that was cruelly canceled before its time.
00:14 There will be spoilers ahead.
00:16 "Regardless, I think it's time to test my killer skills."
00:19 Number 10 - The Paperazzi
00:23 One of the show's many charms is the way it incorporates modern humor
00:27 into the history of the pirating world.
00:29 In the second season, Stede Bonnet realizes he's become a bit of a celebrity.
00:33 But while he's relishing his newfound fame,
00:36 it's obvious he isn't used to the spotlight.
00:38 "Ah, looks like your man is famous."
00:40 "Whoo, look at me!"
00:42 Blackbeard, who is all too familiar with navigating life as a seafaring icon,
00:46 offers the gentleman pirate some helpful tips.
00:49 Welcoming Stede into his world,
00:51 he rattles off a few funny consequences of the public attention,
00:54 including this hilarious play on words.
00:57 "Number one thing for me is to watch out for the papes."
01:00 "What are they?"
01:02 "The paperazzi."
01:03 Number 9 - The Cursed Coat
01:05 After learning they've boarded a cursed ship,
01:07 the crew is quick to flee the scene.
01:09 However, Stede can't resist his eye for finery.
01:13 He dons this stunning red ensemble with a dramatic flair,
01:16 an acting choice inspired by actor Rhys Darby's real reaction
01:19 when he first tried the costume on.
01:21 Refuting Jim's claim that the suit is cursed,
01:23 the captain asserts he's a man of science.
01:26 But his crew begins to crumble.
01:28 "That's no good."
01:30 "Am I okay?"
01:33 "Okay. Captain's cursed."
01:37 As the paranoia becomes ridiculous,
01:40 Stede realizes he must part ways with his beloved outfit,
01:44 but the crew comes up with a perfect solution.
01:46 "Seems nice. Wait, is it cursed?"
01:52 "That's crazy! Who would think that?"
01:55 "There you go. Good luck. No backseas."
01:59 Number 8 - Blackbeard Hiding Under Blankets
02:02 One thing about Blackbeard, or Ed as he's affectionately called,
02:05 he's always unpredictable.
02:07 And while he might be one of history's fiercest pirates,
02:10 he also has the emotional maturity of a toddler.
02:14 In the midst of one of his breakdowns in season one,
02:16 Lucius discovers him hiding in a blanket fort, penning sad lyrics.
02:20 "And it goes, 'Shouldn't let go. If I let go,
02:25 all will fall. Fingers bleeding. Down to the bone now.'"
02:30 Then in season two, he and Stede get into a row
02:33 and he buries himself under a blanket once again.
02:36 You can't help but laugh at the dramatics
02:38 as the usually gruesome captain opens his heart to tenderness for the first time.
02:42 "I'm sorry if my horrible naked chin disgusts you, sir. I love your chin."
02:46 Number 7 - Blackbeard's Apology
02:50 When Blackbeard is begrudgingly welcomed back onto the ship,
02:53 he realizes that there's a lot of work to be done
02:55 before the crew can trust their former captain again.
02:58 In order to help him rebuild those relationships,
03:00 Stede relies on his famous positive management style.
03:03 Eager to right his wrongs, Ed agrees to wear a cat bell
03:07 and delivers a carefully rehearsed yet poorly delivered apology speech to the crew.
03:12 "And I want you all to see this. This here is a ship and it's a spaceship."
03:16 "Safe space."
03:18 "It's a safe space ship."
03:20 He even decides to put action behind his words,
03:23 fixing one of the ship's doors as a sign of his dedication.
03:26 Number 6 - Roleplaying at the Party
03:33 While most of the show consists of Stede learning how the pirate world works,
03:37 the tables are turned when they decide to crash an aristocratic party.
03:41 "And they insisted I indulge, if you get my drift."
03:46 Proving his title isn't just for show,
03:48 the gentleman pirate offers Blackbeard a crash course in sophistication.
03:52 A fish out of water with bows in his beard,
03:55 Ed's interactions at the party are hilarious,
03:58 including an entertaining cameo from Nick Kroll as a Frenchman.
04:01 "Stop that, I know what you're doing. It's not clever."
04:03 "It's not clever. I don't know if you have a problem with something that we are doing."
04:09 But after an unfortunate utensil mix-up, everything goes downhill.
04:13 Just in time, Bonnet steps up to the plate
04:16 and delivers a masterclass in the wealthy's weapon of choice, passive aggression.
04:20 Number 5 - Lucius' Iconic Comebacks
04:33 Each of the show's characters has their own unique quirks,
04:36 attributes and styles that make them funny.
04:39 However, when it comes to Lucius, he is in a league of his own.
04:43 Sassy, condescending and brutally honest, the scribe doesn't hold back.
04:47 Even if it's at his own expense, he'll always be sure to get the final word in.
05:01 And this interaction with Izzy is one of his best moments.
05:11 When he's not being the thorn in everyone's side, he's ready to entertain.
05:15 Who can forget his imitation of the captain's wooden boy voice?
05:18 In our very first introduction to Stede Bonnet, it's clear he's not like other pirates.
05:30 After leaving his landlocked lifestyle behind to captain a ship on a whim,
05:34 he finds the crew isn't so sure about his unique leadership style.
05:38 "We talk it through as a... crew. Because that's what we do here on the revenge."
05:46 But still, he carries on with oblivious confidence
05:48 as he guides them through navigating inter-crew communication.
05:52 "Still others may come back looking totally fine,
05:54 but in reality, be mentally devastated by what they've witnessed."
05:59 And while a first raid might sound momentous, his is anything but ordinary.
06:05 The crew watches in awe as he fumbles through conquering a fishing dinghy.
06:10 One of the show's quintessentially Stede moments, it is the perfect start to the series.
06:14 While this show is full of unserious antics,
06:33 its heart and soul is watching Ed and Stede fall in love.
06:36 However, that journey starts out with two pirates who are completely oblivious
06:40 to their feelings for each other. Lucius has already had his suspicions about the two,
06:45 but his hunch is confirmed when he third wheels on an expedition.
06:48 Their obvious flirting builds to a hilarious scene where they create
06:58 an entirely fictional restaurant scenario.
07:01 Turns out this whole scene was improvised,
07:03 and Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby's banter was so charming it made the final cut.
07:08 Often, Stede's biggest obstacle is his over-eagerness.
07:29 While his crew has years of sailing and pirating experience under their belts,
07:33 their brand new captain is still green.
07:35 But when he first arrives at the Republic of Pirates,
07:38 Bonnet enthusiastically declares he feels right at home.
07:41 His shipmates urge him to step back and blend in,
07:44 but Bonnet has other ideas, shouting and drawing attention to himself.
07:48 His positive attitude and try-hard mentality means you can't help but laugh,
07:58 and his unbridled joy gets the motley bunch into all sorts of adventures.
08:02 Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions.
08:15 Stede's reaction to getting stabbed
08:17 A gentleman pirate through and through
08:19 What's a vacation?
08:25 Stede expands the crew's horizons
08:28 It's a period of leisure.
08:30 Your time is yours to do with as you please.
08:33 Perhaps there's a hobby you enjoy.
08:36 Or maybe you do nothing at all.
08:38 The point is to rest our bodies.
08:40 You have the option to be notified for occasional videos or all of them.
08:50 If you're on your phone, make sure you go into your settings and switch on notifications.
08:55 Flag-making
08:57 When Stede realizes that his ship needs a flag,
08:59 he puts his crew to work to create a symbol for the revenge.
09:02 As they struggle to express themselves with fabric, crafting hilarity ensues.
09:22 Mutiny
09:23 Even though they're discussing their plans for mutiny,
09:26 their violent words don't have the same impact
09:28 when they're carefully assembling the thread, yarn, and patches in their hands.
09:32 However, when they notice Frenchie's has a cat-like form on his flag,
09:36 they begin to interrogate him.
09:38 Defending himself, Frenchie shares several very false statements
09:42 about just how scary felines can be.
