00:00 Where are the Niners better than the Lions?
00:01 Um, you know, it's, it's, that's a good question.
00:07 I would say the Niner receivers are much, much better than
00:12 the Lions cornerback tandem.
00:14 The cornerback tandem of Cameron Sutton and Kendall Vildor cannot
00:19 stand up to the 49er receivers.
00:22 Now the nickel back Brian branch is a great player.
00:26 Yeah.
00:26 And he's very, very strong, um, very physical player.
00:30 I mean, Brian branch is one of the best players in the league.
00:33 I mean, there's no question.
00:34 He's super smart.
00:36 He plays with a ton of urgency.
00:37 He's really smart.
00:38 He takes elite angles.
00:40 He's good against the run or the pass.
00:43 Um, and he's just, he's a very competitive football player.
00:46 I mean, this guy's been a winning football player in high school, in college.
00:50 And now as a first year starter, he's been almost as good as
00:53 any nickel back in the game.
00:56 But I like the Niners.
00:57 I like the Niners.
00:58 Yeah, I'm with you.
01:00 I totally agree.
01:00 Cameron Sutton, Kendall Vildor.
01:03 Yikes.
01:04 On the outside, they're vulnerable, but what's interesting is the Niners like
01:10 to attack more linebackers and safeties and Kirby Joseph's really good.
01:15 Uh, Melifon was pretty good too.
01:17 And Derek Barnes had like the game ceiling interception the other day.
01:21 Uh, Alex Anzalone is a pretty good player.
01:25 I don't really have strong feelings about Jack Campbell, the rookie.
01:27 Um, but it seems like pick, I mean, yeah, first round pick.
01:31 I don't know how he played this year.
01:32 His numbers weren't great.
01:33 Uh, but it is interesting.
01:34 It seems like Brock, if he's going to have success is going to need to attack
01:39 toward the sideline, which he can do.
01:40 I think they're linebacker Anzalone.
01:43 He's not a hundred percent healthy and he's not moving.
01:46 He's not moving like he was early in the year.
01:48 And Barnes is a good player, but not a great player.
01:51 And Campbell, I think is, is a smart linebacker and you'll be in the right
01:55 place, but he's not the greatest cover guy of all time.
01:58 So, um, I think there's place to be made against their linebackers
02:03 and against, uh, their corners.
02:05 But they also have maybe the most physical safety tandem
02:09 left in the sport right now.
02:10 Kirby Joseph is a monster hitter and, uh, CJ Gardner Johnson is as well.
02:16 Don't forget about him.
02:17 Oh, he's, he's absolutely amazing.
02:19 And, and, uh, Mel Fon, who they used as a blitzer and, you know, he's physical.
02:25 Um, so there, you know, Detroit's good Detroit's good.
02:28 Also, I think the Niner interior or the interior of the Niner defensive line
02:34 may have an advantage in this game to Hargrave and Armstead because.
02:38 Uh, Jonah, Jonah Jackson's hurt.
02:41 He went down in the Tampa game and did not come back.
02:45 And if they have to go to coyote, I was sick.
02:47 I was Sika.
02:48 Um, he's a, he's a very young player and a very inexperienced player.
02:53 So, you know, what's the status of Jonah Jackson?
02:58 I mean, that will, that will be a big question for the lions.
03:00 If he can't go, I think the Niners could, that could be the difference
03:05 in the game, because the one thing about golf, um, grant is golf.
03:08 I think the most golfs ever run for this year is like 10 yards in a game.
03:12 He's completely immobile and he can't handle pressure in his face at all.
03:17 So if the 49ers somehow, if Jonah Jackson can't go and they can pressure golf
03:23 inside, that could be the difference between winning and losing.
03:26 One thing I thought was interesting.
03:28 Were you on the conference call with Kyle Shanahan about an hour ago?
03:30 Two hours ago?
03:31 Yeah.
03:31 Yeah.
03:31 Okay.
03:32 When he was asked about first impressions of Detroit, he gushed about their offense.
03:36 I have his transcript in front of me real quick.
03:39 He said, offense is as good as it gets.
03:41 They got a great O-line great quarterback, two great running backs, great tight end
03:46 and a bunch of good wideouts who play the right way and a hell of a scheme.
03:49 Wow.
03:50 You don't really hear Kyle speak that plainly in his praise very often.
03:56 That was eye open.
03:58 Now, of course it's his job to sell the lines to his team.
04:00 So they take them seriously, but wow.
04:02 Great quarterback.
04:04 Yeah.
04:05 I, yeah, the great quarterback quarterback.
04:08 Jared goes, he's not kind of devalues all the other greats he used, but
04:11 little Porter is a really good player.
04:13 They did sign Zach hurts today too.
04:16 That is interesting.
04:18 Will he play?
04:19 Yeah.
04:20 I Brock, right.
04:22 Their backup tight end is hurt.
04:23 Okay.
04:24 So, um, hurts we'll play.
04:26 I mean, it'd be funny if that costs the Niners a trip to the Superbowl, not
04:30 signing Zach or it's because he does something for the team you face.
04:33 That would be not funny, I guess.
04:36 Well, and it makes you wonder, you know, did the Niner show any interest at all?
04:41 Um, is hurts not any in, in the minds of the pro personnel people, not
04:46 nearly the player that he was.
04:48 Um, I mean, I've seen her play recently.
04:50 I mean, the last couple of years, he's really slow.
04:53 He always was.
04:54 It makes you also kind of wonder if LaPorta had a, had a recurrence of injury.
04:59 Could be, you know, that maybe that could be it.
05:03 I'll say this Montgomery's a powerhouse back, right?
05:06 He's he runs over his pads.
05:08 He's a between the tackles guy.
05:10 He's 225 pounds and a five 10 frame.
05:13 So he's, he's, you know, he's a horse.
05:16 He runs between the tackles.
05:17 He's really effective.
05:19 Um, I don't know why the bears let him get out of there.
05:22 And then Gibbs is, is a dynamic receiver and he's just a mismatch in the, in the
05:28 past game, and that's the thing about Gibbs.
05:30 I mean, he's a slasher.
05:31 He's got quick feet and, and.
05:34 He actually was a teammate of Jordan Mason at G tech and they transferred to
05:38 Bama, but every time Bama needed a big play, they went to Jamir Gibbs.
05:43 And then the lion's war room went absolutely crazy on draft day when
05:47 they took him in the first round.
05:48 Um, so that was, they had, they had him pegged and he started slow, but man, he
05:53 finished fast and he's an incredible, uh, player to guard out of the backfield.
05:58 So that's a really dangerous combo.
06:00 I would call that combo.
06:01 Great.
06:02 LaPorta is a better receiver than Kittle.
06:04 Kittle's a better blocker than LaPorta, but Sam LaPorta is a, you know, was
06:10 an absolute, you know, sensation at Highland high school in Illinois.
06:15 He said he, he's, you know, had 50 touchdowns.
06:18 He's got second in the history of the state of Illinois and touchdowns.
06:22 And then he set, uh, the Iowa record for receptions with one 53.
06:28 So, you know, in some ways LaPorta is, is as good as any tight end out there as a
06:33 receiver, uh, and just really, really smart, great hands.
06:37 Um, and what makes him so tough Grant is that he alters his tempo.
06:41 So he makes you feel like you have him covered.
06:44 And then when the ball's in the air, he can, he can play even a little
06:47 faster and create that separation.
06:49 So LaPorta, I think is legitimately great as a receiver.
06:52 Sewell is a dominating right tackle.
06:55 There's nobody better.
06:56 He's six, six.
06:57 He's three 30 and fast rag.
06:59 Now is kind of like Dan Campbell.
07:01 If Dan Campbell were still playing, he's tough.
07:04 He's a leader.
07:05 He plays hurt.
07:05 He's kind of the emotional leader of the team.
07:08 Decker was a first round pick.
07:09 He's really solid at tackle.
07:11 I wouldn't call their receivers the greatest in the league, but I'm on raw is
07:15 great.
07:15 Um, you know, he was, I'm on raw, went to modern day and was a great player
07:21 then went to SC, um, and then got overlooked in the draft, but I'm on Ross.
07:26 Absolutely.
07:26 You know, really quick in a short area.
07:29 The, the one thing about the lions is they don't take shots for
07:32 the most part down the field.
07:33 They, they drafted Jameson Williams.
07:35 They don't use them that much.
07:37 Uh, but Reynolds and then Reynolds came from LA because the general manager
07:42 is a former assistant to less needs.
07:44 So that's why he liked golf.
07:46 That's why he likes Josh Reynolds and a couple other guys that
07:48 he's got some ex Rams here.
07:50 So, I mean, Reynolds is tough and he'll catch the balls in the middle of the field.
07:54 But I don't, it, to me, I'm on Ross.
07:56 And the tight ends great.
07:58 And the running backs are great.
08:00 And the old line is really good, but golf is not great.
08:04 You just say every player on their offense.
08:07 Well, how do you feel about Ben Johnson?
08:08 I mean, I mean, that's the thing.
08:10 That's what's scary about, I mean, I see what Kyle's saying because
08:13 they have a premier play caller.
08:14 They got a great scheme and they've got, um, in some ways the prototype, right.
08:20 Tackle the prototype tight end, you know, two great backs.
08:24 And one of the four or five best receivers in football.
08:26 So yeah, there's a lot to like, you could, you know, turn your nose up at golf, sneer
08:32 at golf, he's been one of the more consistent quarterbacks in the NFL.
08:35 The last two years, I think Niner fans and Niner people are
08:38 still thinking of Rams golf.
08:40 But he's better with the lines.
08:42 And, um, I don't know.
08:45 You can sack him.
08:47 I mean, not that far off of what Purdy is.
08:49 A lot of people would say he's better than Purdy.
08:50 Ryan Clark would say he's better than Purdy.
08:52 We're going to talk about Ryan Clark in a minute, but.
08:54 His number, like I was doing this with, with, with Ryan earlier today, you
08:57 look at their numbers, their completion percentage, pretty close.
08:59 Purdy's got him by 2% touchdowns, almost exactly the same.
09:04 I think it's 30 versus 31 interceptions, almost exactly the same.
09:07 I think it's 11 versus 12.
09:08 The big difference is yards per attempt, which some people might say is a
09:12 reflection of Purdy's reporting cast or the scheme or whatever.
09:17 Um, kind of, kind of similar, kind of interesting.
09:20 I think what stands up.
09:23 Yeah.
09:23 Purdy's definitely more mobile golf though.
09:26 Right now has a rhythm with Amman raw.
09:29 That is an unbelievable.
09:31 And if the 49er coverage in the short and intermediate is not just blanketed all
09:36 over them, he will literally play pitch and catch on these five to 12 yard stop
09:42 routes and little, little, uh, you know, slants and all this stuff within five to
09:47 10 yards of like, yeah, they'll just, he'll just carve you up.
09:52 But if you look at the lions this year, the teams that sack Jared
09:57 golf have beaten Jared golf.
09:59 The bears sacked him four times.
10:01 The bears beat him.
10:02 Uh, green Bay sacked him three times in their game in November.
10:05 Green Bay beat him.
10:06 Raven sacked him five times.
10:08 Raven's beat him.
10:09 Um, he's been sacked five times in the last two playoff games and
10:15 they've been close playoff games.
10:16 But I, you know, and he's playing well for sure.
10:20 But, um, but on a Sunday, he was sacked twice and he won twice.
10:25 Yeah.
10:26 Sunday, Sunday he was sacked twice and he, anyone, anyone.
10:29 And recently the Niners pass rush.
10:31 I mean, they didn't get to Kirk cousins.
10:34 We completely wrote off the Vikings because Kirk cousins can't move.
10:38 The nine is going to feast on him.
10:40 They didn't.
10:41 So the Niners pass rush has a lot to prove.
