Starmer: Consequences are needed for people carrying knives

The Labour Party leader has said that the consequences for those caught carrying knives must be ‘tailored to the individual’ in order to prevent reoffending. It comes after the government earlier announced plans to close what James Cleverly described as a ‘loophole’ within an existing ban on zombie-style weapons. Report by Covellm. 00:00 When people are carrying knives, it can't simply be left as it is at the moment under this government
00:04 with no meaningful consequence in too many cases. There's got to be the right response and it's got
00:11 to be tailored to the individual to make sure that we prevent re-offending. So I think for
00:15 very many people who are either victims of knife crime or family members or just young people who
00:22 are scared about going out, they want to know that we're serious about what's going to happen if you
00:28 do carry a knife. I've spoken to too many victims of knife crime to say this is a party political
00:34 issue that's got to wait till after the election. So you know stop re-announcing it, do it,
00:39 we'll support it and we can actually do something about this.
