This is the moment emergency services battled to put out a Metro fire in California.

The blaze took place near Downtown Long Beach station in the early hours of Tuesday (January 23).

Footage show smoke rising from the tracks as a train carriage is stopped nearby.

Police arrive at the scene and in later footage the Metro carriage appears to have been moved away from the fire.

Smoke fills the street as fire fighters work to extinguish the blaze - which fortunately was contained to one section of the track.

Carlos, 45, who captured the footage said: “I was going for a late-night walk at about 2.20am and noticed some smoke coming from the train tracks on the Metro rail.

“I got closer, and I could see some fire coming out – like an electric fire right by the tracks and I could see the Metro had stopped there.

“There was a conductor, but I didn’t see any people on the train.

“The Long Beach police arrived shortly after, and the Metro workers and fire department came up two minutes later.

“It was a bit concerning because I know the Metro, people pass through there all day, I live close to the station, so I see a lot of people there.”
