00:00 Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte awarded the achievement of DEPED.
00:07 It was awarded by President Ferdinand Arbarcos Jr.
00:11 and the importance of education was also awarded.
00:14 Let's find out more details from Kenneth Paciente live.
00:19 Aljo, Education Department laid out its achievements
00:26 as well as the plans of the government to improve education in the country.
00:32 In her Basic Education Report this year,
00:36 VP Sara laid out some of the achievements of the government.
00:40 Including the construction of additional classrooms
00:44 which is one of the challenges in DEPED.
00:46 She said that more than 3,000 classrooms were built
00:50 while 6,000 are currently being completed.
00:55 811 classrooms are already under procurement.
01:02 By the end of the first semester of 2024,
01:06 we hope to complete the construction of at least 4,000 classrooms.
01:12 We have also finished 4,542 classroom repair projects
01:19 and currently there are 3,428 being repaired
01:25 and another 5,896 classrooms are to be repaired soon.
01:31 In her report, VP Sara also mentioned the launch of the National Learning Camp
01:38 which is included in the Learning Recovery Program of DEPED.
01:41 The same goes for Catch Up Friday
01:43 to encourage the reading of students.
01:47 DEPED also became a focus of the digital infrastructure
01:51 particularly in providing internet connections to schools in the country.
01:56 305 schools have been given fiber internet connectivity
02:02 while satellites have been delivered to 2,000 public schools nationwide.
02:08 As we continue to pursue ICT-assisted learning,
02:13 we are also continuously providing e-classroom packages,
02:17 laptop packages, and digital literacy training
02:21 to improve learning, teaching, and learning outcomes.
02:26 To date, the Department has procured 4,067 e-learning card packages,
02:33 337 smart TV packages, 2,366 teaching packages,
02:40 and 3,161 non-teaching packages.
02:45 But VP Sara emphasized that one of the main and continuous focus of the government
02:53 is the empowerment of teachers.
02:55 That's why she shared in her report that DEPED continues to strive
02:59 to provide benefits to these teachers
03:02 such as teaching overload pay, overtime pay, service credits,
03:06 and the addition of leave credits for these teachers
03:09 which will be done for 30 days from the previous 15 days only.
03:13 Also included in this is the departure from their admin tasks
03:17 which have been long neglected by teachers.
03:20 We have always expressed our intention to remove administrative tasks from our teachers.
03:33 After holding several consultations with our field personnel,
03:38 the Department ordered on the removal of administrative tasks
03:42 for teachers will be released tomorrow.
03:44 And there were a spot in the draft that we released.
03:48 To ensure its effective implementation along with the filling up
03:56 of 5,000 administrative personnel for 2023
04:00 and another 5,000 administrative personnel for 2024,
04:05 we will also be providing additional FOOE to enable our schools
04:11 to hire the necessary administrative support staff.
04:15 President Marcos Jr. also praised the achievement of DEPED
04:22 in leading VP Sara and shared his belief
04:26 in the good future of education in the country.
04:30 I'm happy to note that this report, the basic education report,
04:35 is candid, clear, comprehensive, and I think you will agree, quite compelling.
04:41 So certainly the milestones achieved so far deserve our congratulations.
04:53 Thank you very much, Vice President Indra Isak.
04:59 To the largest constituents and I would say the most difficult planning.
05:04 The President also praised the achievement of DEPED
05:10 in leading the pilot implementation of the revised K-10 curriculum
05:14 and noted the importance of building school infrastructure.
05:18 But he also emphasized the importance of quality of such structures.
05:23 The times are changing, so we need to change our way of construction,
05:31 not only in schools but also in all infrastructure projects.
05:37 And for this, I would like to mention and thank and make a special mention
05:42 to the World Bank and the ADB for their aid in boosting our school.
05:47 The President also emphasized the importance of school-based feeding program
05:51 and the digitization of education in the country.
05:54 To those who are wondering, they are worried that there will be many classrooms
06:01 and the budget might not be able to cover it.
06:03 My standard response to those who clip our wings with their fears is,
06:07 we use the budget to build our schools.
06:11 My standard response to those who clip our wings with their fears is,
06:17 we use the mandate of the people to achieve the brand, not to waste it on the petting.
06:22 We go big or we go home.
06:24 VP Sara also mentioned the possibility of reverting the school calendar
06:37 and she said that the DEFED is continuously consulting its stakeholders
06:42 and also experts and she expects that a directive will be issued on the next days.
06:49 That's all for the latest. Back to you, Aljo.
06:51 Thank you very much Kenneth.
