San Francisco 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir explains why he talks trash.
Transcript
00:00 >> You talk trash in the field?
00:01 >> Yeah, yeah, for sure.
00:02 I'm an open book on the field.
00:05 >> [LAUGH] >> Yeah, I feel like you gotta kind of
00:10 talk trash in this league, kind of bring out that confidence, that swag.
00:15 I mean, Deion Sanders did it, look at him, he's one of the greatest.
00:20 So I mean, I don't knock people for talking trash, but it's never personal.
00:24 But- >> Do you remember doing it in that first
00:28 game, that would have been your first game, right, against the Lions?
00:31 Did you play that?
00:31 >> Yeah, no, actually, that was the first game I ever played that I really didn't
00:35 say nothing, I didn't say nothing.
00:37 I feel like that was my first game, I had to earn my strike before I say something.
00:41 >> Nick also described you as a more rabid dog.
00:44 >> Yeah. >> Would you say that's accurate?
00:46 >> Yeah, that's pretty accurate.
00:48 It's been a lot of times he had to calm me down, and tell me, we need you,
00:51 we need you, just chill out.
00:53 >> Yeah. >> Have you seen him change in this game
00:57 at all?
00:58 >> He's a relentless competitor, a real dog, a very confident player.
01:05 And I know on Sunday he's gonna come to play, so
01:08 I gotta come and hold up my mind and come play too.
01:11 >> Of all times you faced him, I know you had to pick each game.
01:13 Did you match up against him at the time?
01:18 >> I've guarded him in those games, but when I got the interceptions,
01:23 it was more, I wanna say Tyler Vons probably, and Drake Lundgell.
01:28 But yeah, he's a dog, much respect to him, but now I'm getting ready to play too.
01:37 >> What is it about his game that makes him a different type of dog?
01:40 >> I would just say his confidence, he's a confident player, he's smart also.
01:46 He know how to use his leverage, and he know how to get open.
01:51 Jared Goff does a great job of finding a way for him to get open and
01:55 throwing him open.
01:56 >> Kyle just was talking about Jawan,
01:59 he posted a few games ago on the sideline.
02:03 And Kyle mentioned that in practice he does that,
02:06 he said last year in a defense try to fight him at one point.
02:10 What's it like from your perspective as a defense attorney?
02:14 >> Jawan is the same person every day, so it's hard to even get mad at practice
02:20 when he does stuff like that.
02:22 But as you can see, it transfers over to the game, so that's him every day.
02:27 So it just shows how competitive he is, I got much respect for him.
02:33 >> How often do you face Brandon at UCanPractice, and
02:35 how much has that daily battle improved you?
02:38 >> I face, he lines up mostly on my side.
02:43 So I would say about probably 70% of the time,
02:50 he definitely helped me get way better.
02:54 Just facing him in practice sharpened my tools.
02:57 So now when I face other receivers that's nearly not as good as him,
03:02 it's just like practice.
03:04 >> Demo, how do you think the rest of the NFL views you and
03:07 Rudy as a cornerback duo at this point after a successful season?
03:11 >> I'm not really sure,
03:12 cuz I feel like we still don't get the credit that we deserve.
03:15 I mean, they always gonna give it to the rush.
03:18 I know we have a great rush, but at corner you still gotta line up and
03:22 you still gotta back pedal, stay square and make those plays.
03:25 So I just feel like we don't get the credit that we deserve.
03:28 >> When you face a quarterback like Goff, who's as accurate as anybody in football
03:32 when he's on, what are the keys to kind of preventing that when he can just drop it
03:35 in the bucket like that?
03:37 >> Really sticky coverage and just getting them off the spot,
03:40 making them uncomfortable.
03:41 Getting our hands on the receivers and just try to eliminate them from the game.
03:48 >> I'm sure you've seen some of the clips of Dan Campbell that float around social
03:52 media and just, he's an aggressive motivator.
03:54 What do you think about some of the stuff he says and what kind of coach he is?
03:58 >> I can tell that he's an aggressive coach.
04:00 He gonna preach to his team for them to come in and be physical,
04:06 be as physical as they can.
04:08 Cuz I feel like the teams that competes with us,
04:13 you gotta be ready for that challenge.
04:16 >> When you're going up against a coach who goes for an offensive,
04:19 doesn't work out, what happens to the team when you're defending and
04:21 you're coming down on the post?
04:23 You know, when they come back to you, you're not going for the defense,
04:25 so you're getting into better positions.
04:27 >> Yeah, I just feel we gonna have to win first and
04:31 second down before it even gets to there.
04:33 Make it a third and long situation and just win.
04:39 >> Demo Juice was really emotional last week, almost had tears in his eyes,
04:43 about getting back to the MC Championship on the doorstep of the Super Bowl.
04:45 Where are you as far as emotions and
04:46 kind of how do you balance those as you're one game away from the ultimate prize?
04:51 >> This is my third year here and this is the third time we've been in the NFC.
04:56 So I feel like we have to win.
05:01 This, I'm gonna give it my all.
05:03 I just wanna win.
05:06 >> That was quite the two play stretch you had back to back the other night where
05:10 you pushed Love out of bounds and
05:12 the next play you broke up that pass with a big hit.
05:14 Did you enjoy that physicality as much as you do just kind of being in coverage maybe?
05:19 >> Yeah, I just went in the mindset with trying to be the tone setter of the game.
05:25 And I've kind of seen how it was going.
05:29 Like, it wasn't stuff wasn't really going our way.
05:32 So I felt like if I was able to do something for the team and
05:36 try to make a play or keep making plays if they kept coming my way.
05:40 And it seemed like it was working for me.
