00:00 Welcome to Bama Central's Just a Minute segment.
00:02 I'm Will Miller here with Matthew Gibson and it is Friday.
00:06 As of this morning, five star Alabama quarterback prospect Julian Sayan,
00:09 his intentions to enter the transfer portal have been known.
00:12 He's become known to the world.
00:14 He is the latest in a long line of top flight players with future plans that
00:18 don't appear to include the Crimson Tide.
00:20 His new head coach, Kalen DeBoer, starts to settle in on the fallout from
00:25 Nick Saban's retirement.
00:27 Starts to take shape over a week on from that particular development and
00:32 moving into the spring season definitely seems like there will be
00:36 some changes on the roster most definitely.
00:39 Matthew, what are your thoughts on this?
00:41 >> Yeah, I mean, I think it was to be expected.
00:43 Sayan was gonna be playing behind Jalen Mill next year anyways, and
00:46 that's one thing that I think he probably had in the back of his mind.
00:51 Even before the retirement of Nick Saban and
00:55 subsequent hiring of Kalen DeBoer.
00:57 And I think when you lose guys like Ryan Williams or Jamie French, and
01:03 Williams is still in a battle right now, Alabama is still in contention even though
01:06 he's decommitted, I think for him it just becomes an easier decision to
01:11 part ways with Alabama, he's obviously in the transfer portal now.
01:14 DeBoer brings in a guy like Austin Mack from Washington, who's a former four star.
01:19 So I think the writing for Sayan was just on the wall a little bit.
01:22 I think he's gonna explore options like USC, Ohio State,
01:25 some of the other schools that were pursuing him really heavily before he ended
01:28 up signing at Alabama early.
01:30 So I think this is to be expected, but Alabama's in sure hands next year.
01:35 They've got Jalen Millrow, Mack is gonna be fine as a backup.
01:38 I don't think, in terms of Tye fans, should be too concerned.
01:41 But considering Sayan was the number one quarterback prospect in the country this
01:45 year, it is a significant loss.
01:47 >> That's true, Matthew.
01:49 You have to consider he's a Carlsbad, California native.
01:53 So look to USC as a front runner.
01:55 They've obviously already been floated around even in the hours
01:59 since this news broke.
02:01 I would also point out Alabama has a loaded quarterback room next year.
02:05 You look at Jalen Millrow, you look at Austin Mack,
02:08 Ty Simpson made the surprising to some decision to return to the program.
02:13 Himself a former blue chip prospect from Tennessee,
02:17 that being the state, not the university.
02:20 Dylan Lonergan, still in that room as well.
02:24 Hybrid football, baseball guy, maybe.
02:26 So lots of name value in that room, and
02:30 that's even before getting into guys like Eli Holstein.
02:32 So, and who knows what his future is, right?
02:38 I mean, you got a lot of quarterbacks right now that
02:43 are gonna be in play for a roster spot just in general.
02:48 And so somebody was going to go, who knows what the future is
02:53 gonna be for that position because it may not be over.
02:58 But either way, Julian saying he's a huge loss,
03:02 five star top quarterback prospect.
03:06 But I think that I would expect him to go to USC.
03:11 I don't know, what's your prediction?
03:12 >> Yeah, I'm gonna lean USC, California kid.
03:16 He's got a Trojan written all over him.
03:19 I think he's bound to go to USC at this point.
03:22 With Williams departing next year and that offense under Leek and
03:26 Riley, I think USC would make the most sense for saying.
03:28 >> And USC's already made some offseason splashes personnel wise.
03:34 So perhaps they'll get one more.
03:36 This has been just a minute.
03:38 I'm Will Miller for Matthew Gibson.
03:39 Thanks so much for watching.
