00:00 The issue of climate justice is very important.
00:06 The ones who are responsible, they are not suffering.
00:09 The ones who are least responsible are suffering the most.
00:15 Think of all the cyclones and hurricanes and tornadoes and which are the countries that
00:23 suffer most.
00:24 Think of the Pakistan floods.
00:26 Third world countries have not done much and yet they suffer the most.
00:34 So climate justice, it involves people within this species, it also involves people outside
00:41 this species.
00:42 It says that we don't take them as people.
00:54 Is this discussion invigorating or depressing?
00:58 Invigorating, of course.
01:02 So that's the thing.
01:04 I hope that this does not turn off a lot of people, rather makes them realize that they
01:12 can be better.
01:16 It's not a problem that technology can solve.
01:21 It's a problem only spirituality can solve.
01:24 Unless we become better people, there is no way we can even begin to address this problem.
01:32 There is no technological solution to the problem of climate change.
01:37 You cannot have green technologies.
01:39 You know, people are talking of machines that will suck out the carbon from the...
01:46 It says that those machines will emit more carbon than they...
01:51 The machines that really suck carbon from the atmosphere are called by the simple names
01:56 of trees.
01:59 But those machines we are not ready to admit.
02:04 Instead we want to make huge machines that will...
02:07 Come on, come on, it's absorbing carbon.
02:10 Do we understand the size of the atmosphere?
02:12 What kind of machines are we talking of?
02:14 What will power those machines?
02:15 Do we really have technologies, green technologies that can power such huge machines?
02:23 Most of the world's energy is still coming from fossil fuels.
02:27 Fossil fuels are anyway going to run out.
02:28 Why not switch to other technologies?
02:30 Though I'm not saying switching to other technology is a solution.
02:33 We said technology is not the solution.
02:35 But still as an adaptation, just to convince ourselves of the beginning of our sincerity.
02:43 Why can't we begin with these things?
02:45 But even if we develop the greenest of technologies, that's not the solution.
02:53 The solution is a fundamental change in the human being.
02:57 If we continue to remain the people we are, what do you think?
03:04 The COVID pandemic had nothing to do with climate change.
03:09 Everything to do.
03:10 It had everything to do with climate change.
03:12 Because our population is exploding, we are getting deeper into the jungles.
03:17 Because the jungles are getting hotter, the creatures over there have to get into the
03:23 human habitations.
03:25 Therefore these two are now coming in contact and hence the virus would spread.
03:30 Yesterday, it was the coronavirus.
03:34 Tomorrow it would be some other virus.
03:37 Because these two, man and the beast, who used to live peacefully in their own demarcated
03:45 provinces are being forced to come in contact.
03:50 You are breeding more and more kids, so you need land.
03:55 So what do you do?
03:56 You get into the jungle, you hack down the forests.
03:59 Where will those creatures go?
04:02 Obviously they will enter your villages, your towns and then there is contact and then the
04:06 virus spreads.
04:07 We will have more such events.
04:16 Remember even if we are to say that it's not really that we, that mankind as a whole got
04:24 into the jungle.
04:27 It is believed that it was a team of researchers that entered a particular cave containing
04:31 those bats that had the virus.
04:34 What kind of research do you want to do and to what end?
04:49 So I get your point of there needs to be a shift in the center and more spirit, like
04:57 becoming a better human being through a spiritual path or whatever we want to call it.
05:02 So that's a global change that needs to happen if we need to do anything about climate change.
05:11 Eventually, that's the first step before, we are not even acknowledging that climate
05:15 change even or climate crisis even exists.
05:17 There are so many deniers.
05:19 So we are not even to that position.
05:22 But I still feel like as part of this discussion, if we can even come up with, hey, here's what
05:31 someone can do, sitting as an individual in their homes.
05:36 Hey, this is what I can do to probably do something at least.
05:44 Is there something like everyone of, I'm not saying more from a spiritual shift, right?
05:48 That's a much harder battle to win.
05:50 But can we do something on the side as well, each one of us that is easier to do?
05:55 Talk about it.
