00:00 Local film producers were asked to join the moratorium
00:05 on the collection of amusement tax from local governments.
00:09 Here's the first news from June Veneration.
00:11 Some of the local film producers and the movie industry
00:18 have asked Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjor Abalos
00:21 for help in solving the problems of the Filipino film industry.
00:27 Just like the 10% amusement tax imposed by local governments.
00:32 If there's a tax holiday like this,
00:35 maybe we can raise the budget of making films
00:39 to make it better.
00:40 Because of course, we also have to fight for the products of other countries.
00:45 Our dream is for us to be like Korea, right?
00:47 But we can't do that without the support of government.
00:50 Filipinos first, they say. Let's put ourselves first.
00:54 If we don't love our industry,
00:58 maybe we'll be left alone.
01:00 And what about the workers here?
01:02 A film producer placed the cost of their income
01:06 in the production of the film.
01:08 For example, if a film earns P100 million in the box office,
01:13 it reduces the 10% amusement tax.
01:16 The remaining 90% will be divided by the producer and cinema operator.
01:21 The remaining 45% will be taken by the producer.
01:24 The 5% to 20% booking fee will be given to the distributors.
01:28 And there's also a 12% value-added tax.
01:31 Effectively, for every P100 million,
01:34 the producer gets approximately P35 to P37 million net.
01:40 Not all films reach P100 million.
01:43 For the year 2023, most films
01:46 gross from the average of P2 million to P12 million only.
01:51 Secretary Abalos said he will talk to the local chief executives.
01:56 I commit, I will talk personally with all of the mayors of Metro Manila.
02:02 Maybe we can just zero it.
02:05 Let's help for the next 3 years so they can get back on their feet.
02:08 That's what we're asking from all local government units.
02:13 Abalos, the city of Mandaluyong under his father, Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr.,
02:19 will support the 3-year moratorium on amusement tax for local movies.
02:25 Abalos will also talk about piracy,
02:27 a problem that movie producers are also facing.
02:30 The movie industry in PNP and other government agencies
02:34 are 100% dependent on help.
02:37 Stop it. You can't help. You're pitiful to the industry.
02:41 GMA Films President and GMA Network SVP,
02:45 Attorney Annette Gozon Valdez,
02:47 the producers are very proud of the success of the last Metro Manila Film Festival.
02:53 That's why they're doing things to keep the local movie industry going.
02:58 Films in the Philippines are part of our arts and culture.
03:02 We have to preserve it, we have to love it.
03:05 We will do everything to keep the Filipino movie industry alive.
