00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:04 Plans for 75 homes on a hillside above a flood-hit Derbyshire town have received their final go-ahead,
00:10 despite concerns over drainage and sewer capacity.
00:14 At a Derbyshire Dales District Council meeting, Councillors approved the plans for 75 homes
00:19 off Chesterfield Road and Quarry Lane in Matlock.
00:22 They approved the Reserve Matters application, tying up the final details of the overall
00:27 outline scheme approved in December 2022, despite clear indications that they wanted
00:32 to reject the scheme due to flooding concerns.
00:36 Councillors felt that flooding, drainage and sewer issues had not been resolved and were
00:40 too significant in an area which is frequently impacted by floodwaters.
00:45 However, Council officers, and a legal note on behalf of the developers, outlined clearly
00:50 that drainage, sewer and flooding could not be considered as part of the decision-making
00:54 process for this Reserve Matters application.
01:00 Whilst Derbyshire residents have been shivering during the recent cold snap, the newest inhabitants
01:04 of Peak Wildlife Park have been right in their element.
01:07 Polar bears Hoak and her cubs Nanook and Norrie, along with Arctic foxes, were playing in their
01:12 new enclosure, 53 Degrees North Polar Bear Reserve, as you can see from this great photo
01:17 taken by Rod Kirkpatrick of RKP Photography.
01:20 If you want to see the polar bears and foxes for yourself, Peak Wildlife Park is running
01:24 half-price entry on all tickets until the end of January.
