00:00:54 Sorry for the technical difficulties there at the very beginning.
00:00:56 Welcome to the Believe in Panthers podcast here on Believe Podcast Network.
00:00:59 I'm your host, Desmond Johnson, joined by Sports Illustrated beat writer Skylar Callahan
00:01:03 and the Panthers all-time lead and rusher Jonathan Stewart.
00:01:06 It is the end of wild card weekend.
00:01:08 Getting into the divisional round, we'll give you our thoughts on what we saw on a wild,
00:01:12 wild card weekend, some surprises from a couple of teams.
00:01:16 We give you our picks going forward for the divisional round on.
00:01:20 We'll give the Believe in Panther picks, kind of like what we do in the preseason, where
00:01:24 we go through the schedule and Skylar and Stu will make their picks.
00:01:28 I'll be a tiebreaker if necessary.
00:01:30 Hold on, Des.
00:01:31 Yup.
00:01:32 How about them Cowboys?
00:01:33 We tried to tell you, Des.
00:01:34 We tried to tell you.
00:01:35 I didn't even listen to that.
00:01:36 You wouldn't listen.
00:01:37 I don't know if anybody expected that, though.
00:01:38 That was an ass whooping.
00:01:39 Literally, by the youngest kid in the class, literally the youngest kid in the class is
00:01:51 picked on the bully and just in their backyard and just, I don't know.
00:01:56 You've seen one of those games or been in one of those games where it's like, from the
00:02:00 very beginning, you already know.
00:02:02 It's going to be like that all day.
00:02:05 And that's what it felt like.
00:02:06 I just don't know if you are, how do you remain a Cowboys fan right now?
00:02:14 I don't know.
00:02:15 I don't know.
00:02:16 I don't know.
00:02:17 I don't know.
00:02:18 I don't know.
00:02:19 I don't know.
00:02:20 I just haven't.
00:02:21 The habitual pain and misery.
00:02:25 Is that worse?
00:02:26 Is that worse than what we just went through?
00:02:27 Was it worse to go 12 and five and get to the playoffs and get curb stomped like that?
00:02:31 It's worse because you have the expectations that you actually have proof of concept.
00:02:38 Like, oh, we win games.
00:02:40 We have a really good team.
00:02:44 We have really good players.
00:02:47 We have a really good chance of winning playoff games.
00:02:52 And then you go out there the way they did.
00:02:56 You just pissed down your leg.
00:02:58 Yup.
00:02:59 No excuse.
00:03:00 No excuse.
00:03:01 One of the things that really struck me though was McCarthy.
00:03:05 Man, look, I get it, man.
00:03:08 It's hard to win games in the NFL, but the fact that you had to go out there and admit
00:03:17 that we weren't ready.
00:03:19 Y'all saw that?
00:03:21 Yeah.
00:03:22 Yeah.
00:03:23 Yeah.
00:03:24 The first Haitians in 2024, January what?
00:03:31 15th?
00:03:32 16th.
00:03:33 16th.
00:03:34 No, when did they lose?
00:03:35 Two days ago?
00:03:36 Was that Saturday?
00:03:37 Saturday night.
00:03:38 Yeah.
00:03:39 Yeah.
00:03:40 Yeah.
00:03:41 So yeah, the 14th or 13th of January, 2024, you lose to the Green Bay Packers in a embarrassing
00:03:55 way at home.
00:03:56 I mean, the score was what the score was, but really and truly that Prescott, you know,
00:04:04 he threw from them yards, he got going, but it was all garbage time by then.
00:04:09 Yeah.
00:04:10 The score, that score is not right.
00:04:11 It should have like an asterisk by that score.
00:04:14 It was really like garbage time.
00:04:18 I stopped watching it like after once the Packers got to 48, I stopped watching it and
00:04:23 I was like, wow.
00:04:24 And then by the time they showed the score, it was like 48 to 32 or something.
00:04:26 I was like, how did the Cowboys score two touchdowns in like three minutes?
00:04:29 Yeah.
00:04:30 I turned it off for like five seconds and I thought it was going to be like, I don't
00:04:33 know, 65 to 10 or something.
00:04:35 Yeah.
00:04:36 The fact that he said that they weren't ready.
00:04:41 Okay, sir.
00:04:43 Well, it's the playoffs and that's your job.
00:04:48 Your job is to be ready.
00:04:50 Get them ready.
00:04:51 Like, yeah.
00:04:52 And to get them ready.
00:04:53 Something doesn't go well, such as an interception thrown by Dak Prescott.
00:04:58 Like I don't know what he was looking at, but you know, there's a lot there that's just
00:05:06 like, hey, look, things happen, but you're not going to just sit up there and blame it
00:05:10 on the fact that you wasn't ready.
00:05:13 Like you better take the Mike Tyson's approach.
00:05:17 Everybody got a plan until they got hit in the mouth.
00:05:19 You got hit in the mouth and you just on national television like prove that you are not capable
00:05:28 of being ready.
00:05:29 So I don't want to see him.
00:05:31 He better not.
00:05:32 He better not be having no interviews with the Panthers.
00:05:35 Who?
00:05:36 Mike McCarthy.
00:05:37 Who did I see?
00:05:38 I saw Travis Thibault in Hancock.
00:05:41 Did he get fired?
00:05:44 Not as in 1050.
00:05:45 I don't think so.
00:05:46 Man, we were talking like he was fired.
00:05:49 Thibault was on Twitter like a couple of days, like right after that.
00:05:52 He was like, the funny, ironic part about all this is going to be when Mike McCarthy
00:05:55 is named a new head coach, the Carolina Panthers in a couple of like, oh, that sounds like
00:06:00 something that could actually go down.
00:06:01 No, I don't want that to happen.
00:06:04 I believe that he he's proven that he can win games, but he's also he just proved to
00:06:10 us the other night that he said that they were ready.
00:06:14 I don't like that answer, because if that is the first thing that's coming out of your
00:06:17 brain, that means that you really feel that that you weren't ready, which means what were
00:06:22 you doing this whole time?
00:06:24 The pressure, the pressure, I guess, is built up.
00:06:26 You're not ready for the pressure.
00:06:28 You're not ready.
00:06:29 You're not ready to lead a team to greatness.
00:06:31 But you can't be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
00:06:33 You got all the guys on the team that you need.
00:06:35 But another thing, oh, before I even forget.
00:06:37 I'm going to tell you why we mad, son.
00:06:38 I'm going to tell you why we mad, son.
00:06:39 Shout out to our boy Cam Newton, because he was right.
00:06:42 He was right.
00:06:43 All these game managers running around out here, like he was right.
00:06:45 Every single one he named showed up and showed out in terms of game manager-esque type activity
00:06:51 over the weekend, including Dak Prescott.
00:06:54 There is a difference between a game changer and a game manager.
00:06:58 Josh Allen, that 56-yard run or whatever he had, game changers do that.
00:07:02 Yeah, like.
00:07:03 He did that awkward juke move.
00:07:04 I don't even know if he blew an ACL or something.
00:07:05 I thought that was going down.
00:07:06 That was not going down.
00:07:07 That was a juke move.
00:07:08 Every time I watch it, I'm just like, ooh, it looks like he twisted his MCL or something
00:07:14 on that, because he kind of does like a little twist and then just kind of keeps running.
00:07:18 But that's game changer.
00:07:20 That's game changer.
00:07:21 I want to hear.
00:07:22 I keep seeing people trying to compare like Tom Brady to like games or he became a game
00:07:26 changer and this other stuff.
00:07:27 No, Tom Brady became an excellent elite game manager.
00:07:30 He learned to manage the game at the highest level possible.
00:07:34 But Tom Brady can't run no 53-yard scramble for a touchdown across the whole defense.
00:07:40 Like that's that's game changer.
00:07:42 Game changer is we need to we need to figure out the definition is because Cam didn't give
00:07:45 the full complete definition is really should be like a guy that physically changed the
00:07:50 game.
00:07:51 A guy that can physically do anything on the field.
00:07:55 Something you haven't seen a lot of times.
00:07:57 You're just like, what is that?
00:07:58 Like when Pat Mahomes throws a sidearm throws or whatever, that's that's different.
00:08:03 Like there's so much of a difference between the two.
00:08:05 And I get frustrated when people I think people want to equate game changer to winner.
00:08:10 So when you don't call Tom Brady a game changer, it's almost like you're insulting him.
00:08:14 But in actuality, there's not that many game changers like him said it best.
00:08:19 That's why we give him his flowers at the beginning of the show because he said there's
00:08:21 only four three or four in the whole league and we watched one of them go take it the
00:08:26 distance and Pat Mahomes.
00:08:28 All right.
00:08:29 Yeah.
00:08:30 And I like the fact that Pat Mahomes wide receivers decide to start catching the football
00:08:34 first round of the playoffs because he was throwing darts and they were catching all
00:08:38 of them.
00:08:39 Yeah, they're gonna catch the football.
00:08:40 I don't know if I can bet against Kansas City, which is a weird reason to have to.
00:08:46 I mean, I can catch it.
00:08:49 Catch the ball.
00:08:50 If you catch it, we'll win.
00:08:51 Frequently, like, can you continue to catch the ball during the game?
00:08:55 Hey, I'm gonna pick you.
00:08:56 So I guess it was Dallas.
00:08:58 The biggest surprise for you guys from wildcard weekend.
00:09:00 Yeah, I mean, yeah, I don't think anybody was surprised by the Philly thing.
00:09:06 All the drama that's going on there.
00:09:08 And I don't know.
00:09:10 I mean, some actually put it this way.
00:09:13 I'm not surprised the Cowboys late in it because we've seen that a million times.
00:09:17 I'm more surprised the way that Jordan Love has come along.
00:09:20 Oh, man, this dude is looking like a freaking bonafide.
00:09:24 So how long is the elite dog X Factor game changer game changer?
00:09:35 He has all the intangibles you want as far as a quarterback goes and just a guy on your
00:09:41 team that is going to get it done.
00:09:44 Bro, that drive was it before the before the half?
00:09:49 Yeah, it just went down like like he went up there, hushed the defense, pointed who
00:09:55 Mike was.
00:09:56 It looked like backed up, changed the play.
00:10:00 Oh, he changed it like three seconds to see all the things going on for a guy.
00:10:06 He was composed.
00:10:07 I mean, unrattled.
00:10:11 Talk about their receivers.
00:10:12 Right.
00:10:13 Quick dobs dobs.
00:10:14 You said something in text message last night.
00:10:19 He said, dog still open.
00:10:20 Yeah, I've seen it before.
00:10:23 Like literally, there would be like screenshots of him, like from the camera catching the
00:10:26 football and there's no one like anywhere in the screen.
00:10:29 I'm like, where's the defense?
00:10:31 Like they have a roster.
00:10:36 I just want to know how like Skyler, do you have any like knowledge of how their roster
00:10:43 came to be in the sense of their receiving core?
00:10:46 Well, I know that offseason, I think that was the year that they lost Devante, right?
00:10:51 Or they were preparing to lose him.
00:10:53 So I'm sure, yeah, they they just took a lot of swings in the draft because you got him.
00:10:59 They also got Christian Watson in that draft.
00:11:02 I think they may have added a tight end in that draft.
00:11:05 I actually think they took three or four pass catchers.
00:11:08 I remember because it was funny because we were all joking that, oh, they finally Aaron
00:11:11 Rodgers finally.
00:11:12 So yeah, they loaded up.
00:11:17 Actually, that was Rodgers last year, if you remember, because there was all this complaining
00:11:21 about these rookies maybe aren't as good as they thought.
00:11:24 There was a lot of drops that was going on.
00:11:26 I remember that was Aaron's last year.
00:11:28 Yeah.
00:11:29 And then as soon as he leaves, they blossom, of course.
00:11:32 So whatever is happening there, it's working because, I mean, I was expecting Jaden Reed
00:11:39 to be the guy during that game.
00:11:43 And then Romeo Dobbs is like the offensive coordinator was like, all right, Reed, you
00:11:49 will take a seat.
00:11:50 You don't have to take a seat in this game, because what they're going to do is they're
00:11:53 going to think that they don't have to roll over to you.
00:11:57 And we're just going to make sure we hit Dobbs across the middle of the field.
00:12:01 It's going to be over.
00:12:03 It's going to be over.
00:12:06 And then Dontavian.
00:12:07 Dontavian Wicks.
00:12:08 Yeah.
00:12:09 Wicks.
00:12:10 Like, this kid comes out of nowhere.
00:12:13 I mean, like, they're just loaded at the wide receiver position, which like just goes to
00:12:20 show you like, yeah, you got to have, you got to have like a great quarterback.
00:12:25 But when you have people to throw to, it makes things a lot easier.
00:12:32 It makes guys go to that line of scrimmage under the center, in gun, and have the confidence
00:12:37 to sling it and do whatever is necessary to make plays.
00:12:42 And you know, the offensive line held up.
00:12:46 I mean, there's just a lot there that's just like the Green Bay Packers look like they
00:12:51 can actually win the Super Bowl.
00:12:53 There's something to say about a young team getting confidence.
00:12:57 Like that's what you were watching.
00:12:59 They're looking at, I'm looking at the San Francisco 49ers right now thinking to myself,
00:13:04 hopefully this break, you know, was everything you needed.
00:13:07 I was about to say, hold on now, because the 49ers and the Cowboys, I ain't going to do
00:13:10 that to them because as much as I was rooting for the Cowboys, I'm still rooted in reality.
00:13:14 But I'm the 49ers and I'm watching that game.
00:13:19 I'm thinking to myself, oh, that's a mirror image right now.
00:13:23 Like at very least, you know what I'm saying?
00:13:26 Like you got to make sure you come prepared for these four receivers.
00:13:32 And then Aaron Jones.
00:13:34 Oh man, Aaron Jones, buddy had two touchdowns all year.
00:13:42 He's like the kid from Michigan the week before.
00:13:44 Who would you take Brock Purdy right now or Jordan Love?
00:13:47 Jordan Love.
00:13:48 Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
00:13:50 I'm taking Jordan Love over like at least 28 of the other quarterbacks in the league.
00:13:56 Jordan Love elevates those guys around him.
00:13:59 Brock Purdy is elevated by the guys around him.
00:14:02 Game changers.
00:14:03 That's what game changers do.
00:14:04 Like that, see, and I love this because I should have changed the title of this to game
00:14:09 changers because that's kind of what it is.
00:14:11 So yeah, I was surprised with Jordan Love's play.
00:14:13 We saw a little bit of it when we played them.
00:14:16 I find it funny when people were like, well, when the Panthers played such and such team,
00:14:21 they did this to him or that to him.
00:14:23 We didn't do anything to anybody.
00:14:25 Okay?
00:14:26 We didn't do anything.
00:14:27 Whatever happened that day was probably just like a blip on the other team's like year
00:14:32 when they went back on it.
00:14:33 Like we don't know what happened that day.
00:14:34 Like it was rock fight.
00:14:35 We went to Charlotte, but playing Green Bay.
00:14:36 Was Green Bay the game where we scored 30 points?
00:14:37 That was the last game we scored points, wasn't it?
00:14:38 Yeah.
00:14:39 The last time they scored was Christmas Eve.
00:14:40 So it's like, I don't know.
00:14:41 I don't know.
00:14:42 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:49 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:52 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:53 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:54 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:55 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:56 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:57 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:58 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:14:59 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:25 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:32 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:33 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:34 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:35 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:36 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:37 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:38 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:39 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:15:40 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:16:01 I don't know if either one of y'all saw it, but I put out a tweet.
00:16:30 AFC. Yeah, and I heard somebody say and I want to know Stu's thoughts on this because he was on this team
00:16:35 He someone told me online
00:16:38 They were like I used to live in Charlotte the vibes in Houston right now remind me of 2015 Charlotte
00:16:44 Where the whole city is just like a buzz about the Texans of what they're doing
00:16:50 What was it like in Charlotte like I
00:16:54 Came to a game early that year. I think it was some Texans game. Actually. It was like week three or four
00:16:59 It was hot. I remember that
00:17:01 What was it like in the city like walking around the city during that season when you know?
00:17:05 Not necessarily because you're 15 or one or just any any year when you're rolling
00:17:09 Charlotte's a different city like when the team is good
00:17:12 There's like a buzz to it
00:17:14 and when he said that about Houston at first I was kind of
00:17:17 Nah, I mean they were 10 to 7 like what but then I thought started thinking about the year they had
00:17:20 And we talked about last week between the Sean Watson
00:17:26 Them firing all those coaches like they only won what three games last year, I think
00:17:31 It went from worst to first. So I mean
00:17:33 They deserve to have this fun
00:17:36 Now I was curious. What was it like back then? It was it was a it was definitely electrifying. I mean, you know, I
00:17:44 mean, there's there's a lot of music like that I even listened to that just kind of like
00:17:50 Brings me to the memories right? Oh
00:17:54 When future was hot
00:17:56 Switched up his whole army R&B mood to you know to rap hip-hop like
00:18:03 Migos dab
00:18:06 Everywhere you went, you know people recognized, you know and and chose to
00:18:17 Recognize and give the flowers of you know, just making you know
00:18:24 sports fun in Charlotte
00:18:26 You know not just the fact that we were winning but how we were winning and you know the pictures on the on the sideline
00:18:34 you know giving balls away after touchdowns and a
00:18:39 Lot of community endeavors that you know, you know guys were showing up to you know supporting each other
00:18:46 You know their foundations and stuff like that. So I
00:18:51 Mean, you know, we were out in the city like, you know
00:18:54 Going going to dinners having dinners with each other. Like I mean the camaraderie that we've had an experience
00:19:02 When being amongst the city and being able to go to restaurants being I mean be at the grocery store
00:19:07 You know and you get that
00:19:10 Keep pounding, you know and and and have it actually mean something positive. Yeah
00:19:17 You know and in a sense of pride and when you see, you know people, you know
00:19:22 Driving to work or whatever and they got their Panther flags on their car or you see a Panther flag coming
00:19:29 You know from you know, the front door of someone's house, you know, you take pride in that
00:19:34 Because you know, you're doing something good in the community
00:19:38 You're putting smiles on people people's faces and you're just making sports fun
00:19:44 And I mean at the end at the end of the day to
00:19:47 The amount of money that the city was making. Oh, man. Yes
00:19:52 There's a lot that goes into you know sports, you know
00:19:58 Like they they drive revenue for a lot of businesses. And so when business owners are happy
00:20:05 That's how
00:20:09 That's how city thrives man is you know, you supporting local businesses by winning games so get on board
00:20:17 Because we walked from we had we parked it like a outside parking lot and walked to the
00:20:23 entrance of the stadium or whatever and I just remember like people outside like
00:20:27 banging on drums and just like it was like a like a
00:20:31 Party atmosphere walking into the stadium like it was just so much and this is we were like three and oh or something like that
00:20:36 It was early in the year. It was Houston
00:20:38 it was the game where cam flipped into the end zone at the end because we were sitting in the end zone what happened and
00:20:43 Just it just built off of that and I feel like okay
00:20:47 I could see where Houston is at this point where
00:20:49 This is gonna be the worst they're gonna be like, you know for the next three or four years that window
00:20:54 I'm sure windows right now. We like this whole rookie. This is his rookie year. Mm-hmm, and he's doing all this
00:21:00 You know what they're about offseason
00:21:04 Throw some money around baby. You might just my
00:21:07 Lens down there. You got three years of CJ Stroud on a bargain deal
00:21:12 Oh, yeah, and look at their division to like you don't know exactly Anthony Richman's gonna be yet cuz he got hurt so early and
00:21:20 Tennessee's they just fired Mike Rabel
00:21:23 Like a free agent guy, I'm hoping they choose me
00:21:31 I
00:21:33 Saw Bobby Slowick's name start to creep higher on the list of Panther fans in terms of ahead of Ben Johnson in terms of
00:21:48 What they like basically, it's all recency bias in terms of like
00:21:56 The best DC or one of the most DC's in the NFL I don't want him I don't want him, you know, it's funny
00:22:02 How much how many points they put up yesterday?
00:22:06 who
00:22:09 48 48 48
00:22:13 They feel like they let off the gas like I mean we got to talk about this let's talk about this damn Quinn, right
00:22:22 When he coached for the Atlanta Falcons
00:22:25 He was the one that gave up that big lead, right?
00:22:28 How funny is it that Bill Belichick could be there next like
00:22:35 Person that interview yesterday the Falcons folks or a Belichick just so y'all want to talk about it or you want me to
00:22:45 Let's talk about this we're not gonna have
00:22:53 27
00:22:55 That was watching that green bay doubt that was like he he spotted them points or something and then just let them just start doing
00:23:05 What they were gonna do because I wasn't sold on Dan Quinn all year because of that 28-3 thing
00:23:10 I remember watching that Super Bowl just like it all like as soon as the first time they score
00:23:15 I was like, they're about to come back and win this football game
00:23:17 literally like
00:23:19 And they did and Dan Quinn has been in my head ever since in terms of I don't wanna I don't think
00:23:25 Don't think we should have you go hire a DC. I'd rather have
00:23:28 Jiro, yeah, for able for able. Mm-hmm
00:23:33 Mmm and I thought we're able to go to New England, but
00:23:36 Yeah
00:23:40 Shout out to draw Mayo's now the new head coach of the New England Patriots
00:23:46 And I like how they did it
00:23:48 I like how the Patriots did that where they had it in the
00:23:50 Succession plan or whatever that the league office they have to submit it to the league office because people were asking why come they don't have
00:23:56 To interview coaches or whatever if they already knew the succession plan and they submitted it to the office with NFL
00:24:01 The NFL already knew what they were gonna do. So once it's very long
00:24:04 there to
00:24:06 outside linebackers coach Tim look Abu is interviewing for their DC job, so
00:24:13 Good thing for him. Obviously when you get a coaching change, you're probably gonna be on your way out
00:24:18 Anyways, so if he can go out and get a decent job, that's pretty damn good
00:24:22 I wonder if Kayla Williams or that sounds like Drake May would be in New England
00:24:27 We like the third pick cuz I think they have the pick. I ain't gonna be there. That's the thing. They're not to move up
00:24:32 Yeah, cuz I would kill it one you're talking Jaden Daniels potentially
00:24:36 Woody well, actually if you're Chicago
00:24:41 Cleveland here in Atlanta might trade with Chicago
00:24:43 so Atlanta would have like the
00:24:46 Or no Chicago would have like the eighth pick eighth pick
00:24:50 this year
00:24:52 Would Marvin Harrison jr. Still be there at 8?
00:24:54 Like he legit fleeced the Panthers and has an opportunity to do the same exact thing to somebody else this year
00:25:06 I was like the MC South
00:25:10 South like that's why we
00:25:12 the chance to load up so many dry draft picks because he got the number one pick twice and
00:25:17 Like oh my gosh, like you DJ more you get all those pics
00:25:24 I got last year whatever they get this year if they decided to trade out of it
00:25:28 I mean, that's the question is like do you trade out of it?
00:25:31 I would be building around Justin fields because I think he's an okay quarterback. I don't think here's the thing. He's a game manager
00:25:39 Yeah to me
00:25:41 That's okay, that's okay
00:25:44 Like is he is he the potential being a leak game manager?
00:25:47 That's the question because the potential pieces he has potential right take him over
00:25:53 Caleb Williams or Drake make or Jaden Daniels because that's the those are the three coming out this year, right?
00:25:58 Like I think I think I take him over Jaden Daniels. I don't know about the other two. I don't know
00:26:04 I thought about Caleb Williams. I don't know if I would take him
00:26:08 Yeah, I'm skeptical. I'm not really full. I'm not fully on board. Okay, okay, love you now Drake. I've seen Drake for two years
00:26:16 He on the field
00:26:18 He's as legit as you're gonna hear like Drake Mays gonna be a 10-year plus NFL quarterback now what level I have no idea
00:26:25 But he's gonna be in the league for 10 years. You're gonna is he gonna be like Mitch Trubisky?
00:26:29 Mitch might be in the league for 10 years, too
00:26:35 That have him going to Washington, which would be really funny seeing a Carolina guy go and replace another Carolina guy
00:26:43 Yeah, and actually Sam how hasn't been that bad
00:26:47 How would you some direction though?
00:26:50 Yeah, they need to talk about Nina Ola and he needs some protection he got hit more than uh
00:27:02 So that and so that question that I don't think Chicago's gonna hold on to that pick I think they're gonna trade it down
00:27:07 If they stay in the top five, I would stay in the top five get Marvin Harrison jr. Pairing with DJ more
00:27:13 Go you got DJ more on one side Marvin Harrison the other side Justin Phil's a quarterback and you've got all these other picks to
00:27:19 Fill in your defense and everything else
00:27:21 And a vision. Well, I was gonna say the divisions kind of going down, but we just talked about Green Bay
00:27:26 So that divisions on the up
00:27:29 Minnesota's gonna be back next year with Kurt. I'm telling you now. Yeah, I think so
00:27:33 They're gonna make some moves as long as he's healthy. They're gonna be in the mix, too
00:27:38 um
00:27:39 before we get to
00:27:40 the divisional round of the playoffs and these guys picks for it and we'll keep some sort of record to see if we know what we're
00:27:45 Talking about or not as we go through the rest of the playoffs
00:27:47 Like we did for we didn't check our preseason stuff to see if we well we were completely wrong
00:27:52 We're 100%
00:27:58 Yeah
00:28:00 News on the Panthers GM search Skylar you can actually check
00:28:06 Skyler's work over at a all-s-i for the all Panthers site
00:28:11 They're where his work is and he's got daily stuff on the Panthers general manager candidates
00:28:16 It looks like they are gonna hire a a GM before they hire
00:28:25 Yeah, and I think they're up to like 18 candidates or maybe more than that at this point
00:28:29 what are you hearing in the building Skyler in terms of
00:28:32 Where they're leaning I keep seeing that they actually really like Dan Morgan and I don't know how I feel about that because he was already
00:28:38 Here so I but I love Dan Morgan. So what are you here?
00:28:42 It kind of lines up with some of the guys they're looking at right? I mean
00:28:47 Brant Tillis Alec Halliby
00:28:51 Matteo from the Ravens a few others all those guys have salary cap backgrounds negotiating backgrounds
00:28:59 Not so much of the scouting background, which is what Dan Morgan has more of so you can kind of see that
00:29:07 There's a potential pairing
00:29:09 Idea in place where they would like to maybe have Dan Morgan still involved in some way whether that's
00:29:16 He's the GM and they add one of these guys as assistant GM or I don't know
00:29:21 Co-gms a thing but they can maybe do something like that where one handles the scouting side of it
00:29:27 The other handles the negotiating a contract piece of it
00:29:30 Or they go you football operations or yeah, yeah, or they just go one way or the other
00:29:37 I think they want to keep Dan Morgan around
00:29:42 It's just gonna come down to the best candidate they see externally
00:29:46 Does it match well and mix well with the current front office that they have in place?
00:29:51 So I like I like Brant Tillis a lot
00:29:55 From the Chiefs he interviewed I believe a couple days ago or last week
00:30:00 I can't remember what day he interviewed he and Matteo interviewed actually yesterday. I think so
00:30:05 To me if I had to guess
00:30:11 Tillis is probably
00:30:13 My favorite to land the job if they don't go Dan Morgan, but again, it's still early in this process
00:30:19 There's gonna be more guys out of this. There's gonna be more
00:30:23 that uh, then maybe overtake him as the the front-runner or the favorite as these interviews go on but I
00:30:30 Will also know
00:30:33 My Raiders guy
00:30:35 Hondo Carpenter
00:30:38 Covers the Raiders for SI fan nation. I actually had a call with him yesterday and he gave me a lot of insight on
00:30:44 Champ Kelly the interim GM for the Raiders who they hope to retain and appoint as the full-time GM there
00:30:53 he thinks
00:30:55 Caroline is making a seriously strong push for champ Kelly and
00:30:59 it sounds like
00:31:02 If they can hire champ Kelly, they will do everything
00:31:06 Well, not do everything they can but it sounds like they would really really prefer to land champ Kelly
00:31:11 So they're really high on him
00:31:12 but I wouldn't
00:31:13 Wouldn't rule out brand till the season and we kind of have a deadline because we kind of talked about this last week where today's the
00:31:19 16th as we're taping this
00:31:21 The teams can start interviewing coaches in person starting Monday the 22nd if I'm not mistaken
00:31:27 so really
00:31:29 Virtually, they're doing work. So like the one I said, they'll check with or had the interview with Atlanta yesterday
00:31:34 I assume it was my zoom or whatnot. Um
00:31:36 Well, he's actually not attached so I guess he's not on a staff so I believe he can interview in person
00:31:42 Harbaugh interview with the Chargers yesterday
00:31:44 I have not heard anything about Harbaugh and Carolina in terms of them meeting talking interviewing anything of that sort which
00:31:53 makes me sad because it does appear that Harbaugh is not coming back because McCarthy declared for the draft and
00:32:01 There's nothing left for him to do he's coming back. It's just a matter of where he lands. It's gonna end up, you know
00:32:06 I mean, that's my gut feeling he may take another interview elsewhere
00:32:10 but when you look at the setup that the Chargers have I mean it it's it's
00:32:15 Honestly, one of the most attractive jobs out there
00:32:18 Even if even if the Cowboys job opened up this is gonna sound crazy. I would take the Chargers job over the Cowboys
00:32:25 because you have a
00:32:28 legitimate franchise quarterback and Justin Herbert
00:32:31 Dak Prescott, I mean is he
00:32:34 He's got extension coming up like you're not getting more out of that Prescott
00:32:39 well, I think it was uh
00:32:42 the interlock here somebody was like just blow the whole thing up Cowboys like at this point because
00:32:46 You've hit a ceiling of where you can go and unless you're willing to
00:32:50 Would you trade would you would you trade? Let's say
00:32:54 Micah Parsons and
00:32:58 Somebody else to the Bears for the number one pick for Caleb Williams Michael Parsons and somebody else
00:33:02 No, I trade that Prescott I trade that Prescott and somebody else
00:33:09 Sorry Dak Dakota, I'm sorry, but Mike has got to stay right like Mike was the best player they got
00:33:16 Michael Parsons is the best player on their team, but if they're gonna blow it up, I mean
00:33:27 Because they can't run the ball. That was the problem. They can't run the ball. He couldn't all year
00:33:31 And something those irritate me watching that game
00:33:38 It felt like Dallas's plan like 200 pound guys in the secondary and like in the linebacking core
00:33:44 So they looked little so like a lot of times when Green Bay was running those power runs
00:33:48 Just running through guys like there was too little there was one where the guy was just like
00:33:53 Like trying to tackle him. He's got ran over cuz he was like 80 pounds less weight
00:33:58 And then the dude he was trying to bring down like the whole thing reminded me of when a full snows defense was here
00:34:04 And we had those games where the defense played great
00:34:06 For like three quarters and then in the fourth quarter you could see them just being tired on TV because they were just so much
00:34:11 Smaller than everybody it was those Jeremy Chen type players
00:34:14 He would have that could he kind of mix and match and put them in different spots or whatever
00:34:18 That's what it reminded me of so no to Dan Quince my said it earlier for City Kitty
00:34:23 Dan Quinn is a no
00:34:25 Here's a question because we talked about this last week with Brian Burns and I don't know why I had the brain fart
00:34:30 We didn't bring up the franchise tag that they can still tag him
00:34:33 It's not like he can just walk away or whatever the Panthers still technically own him until
00:34:37 They figure out what they want to do Zach was they asked what are the chances the Panthers use the exclusive tag on burns?
00:34:42 I'd rather keep him but you would get two first-round picks that they end up losing him in free agency
00:34:46 But they got to keep burns
00:34:48 To be honest Zach, I don't think we can answer any question about Brian Burns until we know
00:34:53 Who the GM and that coach are gonna be?
00:34:55 It's just so hard like now we can't we can't
00:34:59 Burn said it to in his exit interviews like I want to be here
00:35:07 But they got stuff to figure out and I'm not exactly top priority in the Panthers if they want to keep him around
00:35:12 you you have to find out a deal because you
00:35:16 Franchise tagging is such a pain in that. You know what because it provides uncertainty still
00:35:22 You don't have the long-term future locked up, but more importantly you're paying a really expensive contract for one year
00:35:29 Because you're not just paying like if you if you give him let's just make things easy
00:35:33 I'm not saying this is worth or value or anything. So you give him a hundred million dollar deal for five years
00:35:39 I'm trying to get it is for that's that's that's gonna average out
00:35:43 You can average that out throughout how many year over years if you pay him one year on it on a franchise tag
00:35:48 You're paying over value
00:35:50 In most cases says the projected franchise tag for defensive ends
00:35:54 For 2023 was 19 million seven hundred twenty seven. Oh, what's outside linebacker?
00:36:01 Yeah, I guess he did yeah, honestly
00:36:05 Um, I guess it depends on and and I think they can go and kind of fight this if there's any type of like
00:36:14 Disagreement about where he played
00:36:16 Lombard's more 20 million
00:36:19 20.9
00:36:21 Between outside or inside just linebacker
00:36:25 So he probably would want to go in as a linebacker at this point since they so Scott
00:36:29 Would you say that the first thing that you know a GM?
00:36:32 that comes in
00:36:34 The first thing that they're gonna have to address is Brian Burns
00:36:38 yeah, absolutely because I mean
00:36:41 you have to figure out what that that contracts gonna look like because
00:36:45 You want to be able to go into free agency and spend some money on versus some receivers some offensive linemen?
00:36:50 You don't want to go and play this thing into the deep parts of the spring or summer
00:36:55 Not have anything figured out with Burns and then you're handicapped because you don't know what to do
00:37:01 You only have so much money to spend
00:37:03 So I think you've got to figure that thing first out first and foremost before you find out anything else
00:37:08 I said Derek Brown should be 1a 1b. I would try to get their ground right now
00:37:14 Well, the good thing with Brown is like he still has another year. So you have time to figure that out
00:37:19 Now Lugo's unrestricted free agent, but I'm not mistaken, right so he can just go wherever with no compensation
00:37:30 uh
00:37:30 so I would I would definitely have Lulu up there in terms of
00:37:33 Because that's gonna be the selling point for the head coach coming in. I would think is the pieces on
00:37:40 The people on defense so I would think that whoever comes in is coming in with the idea, okay
00:37:44 I know I've got this on defense
00:37:47 I've got a dude that's turning to like Aaron Donald 2.0 on my defensive line on a Derek Brown that I can build around
00:37:53 I got an all pro to be in
00:37:55 Burns I've got a blonde backroom Lulu
00:37:58 I've got a top 10 pick and JC horn and second like I've got things at all three levels
00:38:02 I can work with on the defense the offense is something else
00:38:06 We'll get to that in a minute but the defense I work with this so it just depends on who comes in and takes it
00:38:11 and
00:38:12 That's why I want a defensive mind coach because they'll recognize that stuff before offensive mind coach will I think?
00:38:16 and kind of go from there, um, let's let's get into the the
00:38:23 Division around here and I'll pull up the playoff bracket
00:38:27 For us to share for us to see make sure everybody can yeah, okay
00:38:31 so, um, and we'll do our pickums and if you if you're new to believe in Panthers usually preseason what we do go to the
00:38:39 Panthers schedule and
00:38:41 Naively we go through each game and try to pick what's gonna happen three months later
00:38:44 It never happens the way we think it's gonna happen. Lord knows this season did not happen the way we predicted
00:38:50 What do we pick ten wins?
00:38:52 For Carolina
00:38:57 Six or seven. Yeah, you were low you were you were low means Scott meant me and Stu were high
00:39:01 Who did we have in the Super Bowl because it was some weird thing didn't we did we actually have Baltimore going far I
00:39:17 Think we had I remember Seattle distinctly. We had them going far for some reason
00:39:22 I don't remember because we did it a couple times and Seattle kept popping up. I don't remember why we were hiring Gino Smith
00:39:27 on
00:39:28 The AFC side. I think we couldn't get past Kansas City. I
00:39:31 Think we had Kansas City Philly. I think we had a rematch
00:39:35 That sounds familiar
00:39:38 No
00:39:41 Let's start off
00:39:43 Let's start off actually on the AFC side. You have five seed Cleveland. Oh wait. No, that's not right
00:39:48 The four seat you know, yeah the four seat Houston taking on the one seed
00:39:54 Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. Is there any chance CJ Stroud can beat his Ravens team and
00:40:01 Dance to the AFC Championship. Yeah. Yes
00:40:05 You know, yeah, actually, yeah
00:40:08 Lamar's on the same boat as deck to me in terms of postseason
00:40:21 He got with some put man that's two and five in the play I mean when you get into these situations in the playoffs I
00:40:27 Always kind of look at like each team like how they got there and all that stuff
00:40:32 Baltimore obviously is the more experienced team the more talented team
00:40:36 But yeah tech the Texans are playing with house money right now like no one expected him to be there
00:40:41 No one expected him to win their first game. They've been all the pressures on Baltimore. It's like, okay
00:40:48 it's time for Lamar to make a run here and
00:40:50 I don't know. I think teams like Houston are dangerous because again, no one expected him to be there
00:40:57 Do you see him on the Pat McAfee show? I think it was like last week when someone was like, ah, you got no chance
00:41:03 He's like no we ain't got no chance of what is Baltimore. All right, so
00:41:06 You know, he's playing with the chip on his shoulder and I think that whole team kind of embodies that they're loose
00:41:11 They're loose
00:41:12 But this is the best Baltimore team Lamar Jackson's had I think since he's been in Baltimore like I think this is their best shot
00:41:17 it opens up where
00:41:19 They shouldn't have to leave all they wouldn't have to leave Baltimore if they just went through. Um, yeah, I'll let y'all pick
00:41:25 Stu we got Houston
00:41:28 It's kind of tough it's tough because I like both quarterbacks and I love Lamar Jackson
00:41:36 but I'm gonna have to go with the Texans just because
00:41:40 just because I
00:41:43 Think
00:41:45 This is the reason why earlier this year man, they
00:41:52 They played they played them lost to the Ravens earlier this year. But from what I remember it was pretty close until
00:42:00 Sometime late in the third quarter
00:42:04 Where the Ravens kind of took off that was earlier in the year so
00:42:12 CJ Stroud has grown up throughout this whole season. Hmm and
00:42:16 If he's anything what we've seen as of late and if that guy shows up
00:42:24 to the game on Saturday, I
00:42:27 Ain't got no other choice but the pickle
00:42:31 Betting if I'm a betting man, I'm picking the Houston Texans
00:42:37 Skyler so I
00:42:40 Really want to agree with you still
00:42:42 Yeah, yeah, I love CJ Stroud you guys know I've said for a long time I love CJ Stroud but
00:42:51 Baltimore's defense man Mike McDonald what he's done
00:42:55 I mean, that's a whole reason why he's one of the top candidates for a coaching jobs out there right now
00:43:01 That defensive line is nasty. They get after the quarterback. They averaged like three and a half sacks a game
00:43:08 they are a tough customer and
00:43:10 For a rookie quarterback going on the road for the first time in the playoffs, it's a tall task
00:43:17 I'm not saying CJ can't do it. I'm not trying to doubt him but
00:43:22 I've got to go Baltimore here that they can't the Texans can't run the ball. That's been their one
00:43:28 Issue all season long. They can't run the ball if you can't run the ball and you go to Baltimore
00:43:34 Good luck. That's all I touch. Let it yeah, it's gonna be tough sledder cuz he's definitely not a run for his guy either
00:43:39 No, all right. Well, actually scholar made
00:43:42 Pretty good points about the Texas plus I've got the image of the Texans playing us in our head
00:43:47 I mean my head in terms of what did our defense do to stop this Texans?
00:43:50 Offense or whatever if the Panthers defense can hold them to 13 points or whatever it was
00:43:56 That was a trap game
00:44:01 Going into that weeks like our defense is gonna be superjuice because they're gonna want to play well to make Bryce look better than CJ
00:44:07 Cuz that was the narrative going into the game or whatever
00:44:09 But they're on the road you're right rookie first road game playoff
00:44:14 Baltimore Lamar's gone through this
00:44:17 All right, Lamar's like already like a couple of steps ahead of the timeline where CJ CJ is now so like I got a pick
00:44:24 Lamar was my MVP of the league. I'm gonna go with the Ravens at home against a feisty Texans team
00:44:30 I don't think it's gonna be a blowout or it'll be 48 to
00:44:33 18 or whatever it was in that Green Bay Dallas game in the fourth, but I think the Ravens are gonna move on
00:44:39 So I'll top break that and give you the Ravens the bottom
00:44:42 whoo
00:44:45 God
00:44:46 Buffalo and this time it's taking place in Buffalo first time
00:44:50 Pat Mahomes will have played a road playoff game in 15 playoff games
00:44:57 Of course you roll be a neutral right? But yeah, he's never had to play away from arrowhead and he's gonna have to play
00:45:03 Josh Allen and Buffalo Bills
00:45:06 there
00:45:08 Say that's their biggest rival like right now the bills
00:45:10 They got a San Francisco Dallas thing going on like from the 90s or whatever
00:45:20 Skylar I'll start with you listen
00:45:23 And this is the night game
00:45:26 Sunday night, I believe
00:45:28 So this is this is one. I'm just I'm so excited to watch. Yeah
00:45:33 This is why we all love football getting to the playoffs these really interesting matchups top quarterback. They're gonna put it on peacock
00:45:42 Like oh guess what we're gonna just put this on peacock so you got it
00:45:50 We know you know
00:45:55 I
00:45:57 Said this last night out loud to myself or if my wife was listening and cared to listen to maybe she she heard me say
00:46:03 it but I
00:46:04 Have this weird feeling about the bills man. Like they've they it just feels like everything is starting to come together for them
00:46:11 when a
00:46:13 Month or so ago. Everyone was panicking like oh my gosh
00:46:16 Just team's not even gonna make the playoffs a Sean McDermott gonna get fired
00:46:19 That whole situation that he had with the comments about 9/11 like all that
00:46:24 It was just a mess right and it seems like everything's just starting to come together
00:46:29 This team has rallied around Sean McDermott. I
00:46:32 Don't know. I feel like this is their year to get to the Super Bowl. I don't know that they will
00:46:38 But I think they get past the Chiefs this week. I mean you just said it this patch rooms first road game
00:46:43 Yeah, it's gonna be a cold. You know what environment I'm going with the bill man
00:46:49 People were mad they moved that game that Buffalo Steelers came to Monday or whatever
00:46:53 Like what about the people that got jobs and this now where I'm like, do you know where the Buffalo Stadium is?
00:46:57 It's literally like like a residential neighborhood like those people ain't going to work
00:47:00 We got to go do this game so like I think
00:47:18 Still what you get you pick to you pick Buffalo
00:47:20 And I would go with like I said the window there at the end of that window
00:47:25 So they're gonna bust through this would be the year
00:47:27 Buffalo as well and basically I don't think that the Kansas City Chiefs have enough firepower
00:47:37 In the receiving room
00:47:41 Because it's gonna take
00:47:44 Multiple guys getting off the jam. That's one of the things that the Buffalo Bills
00:47:48 Have showcased over the last couple of weeks that I've been watching them is their ability in the secondary
00:47:55 To be physical especially in the red zone
00:47:58 And that makes it hard for guys to create separation, you know
00:48:03 There the way they play defense in rally to the ball, I mean
00:48:11 Watching you know, what was that pick in the end zone Randolph or Rudolph?
00:48:17 Through that pick in the end zone this past week, I think he was throwing it said maybe
00:48:23 receiver Johnson
00:48:26 Yeah
00:48:28 right there in the corner, but just a play like that to me just like stands out because
00:48:34 These receivers aren't playing not to lose
00:48:39 I mean that or the the secondary not the receivers
00:48:42 There is the secondary is not playing not to lose they're playing to make players in the ball
00:48:48 every single play and
00:48:50 You get that mixture going into the playoffs that confidence in the secondary. I
00:48:56 Mean, can't a city chief. Can't a city cheese or where they are
00:49:00 basically because
00:49:03 They've been kind of manhandled throughout the year by James. Yeah, I'm saying
00:49:09 I'm getting in the face of the quarterback
00:49:12 beating up on Travis Kelsey, like you're not just gonna run free all the time like
00:49:17 This is a perfect mixture of why the Buffalo Bills have an edge
00:49:24 and so I just think that secondary is gonna come to play and it's gonna be a long night for
00:49:30 Patrick and Russell Douglas
00:49:32 Will be back for this game. That's a huge piece for Buffalo secondary. So
00:49:39 It's already a tough stingy secondary as it is, but you had her soul Douglas to that mix. Yeah
00:49:44 That's gonna be tough sledding for Patty. Okay, I'm gonna burn out some of these sounds so y'all do
00:49:49 Y'all believe in the and the Buffalo Bills
00:49:52 Y'all believe in them. I do want to say because this might be the last time I get a chance to even talk about her
00:49:57 Man I'm defending Taylor Swift
00:50:04 Yeah, the swag sir, but leave her alone leave that girl alone
00:50:07 She no one ever taught her how to properly swag sir. She tried to put a little sauce on it
00:50:11 Like no just let her be she out there having all the kills. She was not having it though
00:50:30 It was so funny I had a I had to call a high school basketball doubleheader on Friday
00:50:35 At my alma mater and I'm calling it and in between the girls game in the boys game
00:50:40 The DJ put on swag surfing. So the student section for my alma mater bless their hearts
00:50:46 They tried to like coordinate and get it together
00:50:48 You know how I like when it's not together and like one Rose doing something and the other Rose doing something else
00:50:53 There's always a dude over here
00:50:57 I had to get off my my headset down walk over to him like look before the season is over
00:51:03 I'm going to teach y'all how to swag sir, because that was disgusting
00:51:06 I don't know what that was that was that was all over the place, but we're gonna figure this out together
00:51:10 Like I'm not gonna leave y'all here hanging y'all can't be doing this to us. So
00:51:13 And then Taylor did that
00:51:16 The next day on TV and I was like, oh man, she don't even know she on TV like I leave that girl alone, man
00:51:22 She's just you know
00:51:24 She just enjoyed her life
00:51:27 So we got the the bills moving on Ravens bills AFC championship in
00:51:32 Baltimore that would
00:51:35 That's good stuff. Okay NFC
00:51:37 Green Bay, San Francisco
00:51:40 Stu
00:51:43 San Francisco
00:51:44 best team all year
00:51:46 See Matt the scene that is about to bring a whole nother
00:51:49 Whole nother level of juice that we haven't even seen this year and that's what it's gonna take
00:51:56 I put him to win
00:51:58 Because
00:52:01 You know a couple weeks ago. I was thinking to myself man. I hope they hadn't peaked
00:52:04 And
00:52:07 my actual belief
00:52:09 Is that?
00:52:11 Christian McCaffrey is about to show us something that no one's ever seen before in playoffs
00:52:17 just you know the
00:52:19 700-yard performer
00:52:24 Like like you can't put it past him and he's a talent that makes teams better
00:52:30 That made that that has made history
00:52:35 Not just history on a level of you know, some old, you know new rinky-dink team
00:52:43 but history within a
00:52:46 great franchise franchise 49ers, you know, and
00:52:51 So I just think that this year is just gonna be a continuation of a record-breaking success and so
00:52:57 Gotta gotta give it to the San Francisco 49ers, you know all the talent they have, you know around party
00:53:05 You can't bet against that. It's hard what?
00:53:09 If it's gonna happen
00:53:13 The Green Bay
00:53:16 the Green Bay Packers also got some heat that we looked at and seen as
00:53:22 a recent at that receiving cool
00:53:25 But I don't think they ain't gonna have enough for
00:53:30 Christian McCaffrey in the 49. What do you think Skylar San Francisco Green Bay and San Fran San Fran's the one seed
00:53:38 Loaded on all these four like I legitimately might go and for this week. I
00:53:45 Don't know man like I I
00:53:47 Really I really like San Francisco just because of how much talent they have it's it's insane how loaded that roster is
00:53:57 but I
00:54:00 Don't know get these gut feelings man and like Green Bay the way they played and and I hope it's not just a
00:54:06 recency bias thing but
00:54:09 Jordan love I'm telling you is just playing lights out right now
00:54:14 I saw he's like in the past nine games. He's had like 21 touchdowns and one interception or something like that. Yeah
00:54:20 Though the one throw and I know he kind of understood but he was under immense pressure
00:54:25 That one where the guy was just wide open down the field and he had to stop turn around and get it
00:54:30 He looked like Aaron Rodgers on that throw
00:54:32 And something to be said to about as we haven't mentioned this episode
00:54:37 The Green Bay Packers and they're only one call it luck
00:54:40 They're due diligence at quarterback the past 30 years to go from Brett Favre
00:54:44 for 15 years to Aaron Rodgers for 15 years to now Jordan love and
00:54:50 There was questions about love. Could he be that next one?
00:54:54 I think he's checked all the boxes after this season like he's it like
00:54:58 draft a quarterback that could arguably start on a team with and Rogers at quarterback and
00:55:07 that be like a you know, kind of like a
00:55:11 threat
00:55:14 When they drafted him and and you know all the fuss about you know, how Aaron Rodgers might feel
00:55:22 You know, I'm pretty sure he felt like well dang like I'm not doing enough here
00:55:27 Organization to say hey look bud, he's getting older you're gonna be here for a couple more years, but
00:55:37 You're not gonna be here
00:55:39 For our future here that I was really wrong on Jordan love because yeah coming out of college
00:55:45 I mean this was a guy that lived in the 50% completion rate
00:55:49 His whole time at Utah State and I when they took him in the draft
00:55:53 I'm like if you're gonna take a guy to be a successor to Aaron Rodgers, that's that's not to me who you would take
00:55:59 But I mean clearly they know what the hell they're doing
00:56:04 Maybe they saw a lot of those incompletion rates has dropped or something. Yeah
00:56:08 Like they
00:56:12 So do it did you pick who's it's not I didn't pick yet. So I I really really want to go Green Bay
00:56:18 I really do
00:56:20 But I feel like it's just recency bias and we need to see something more. So I guess I'll go San Francisco
00:56:27 But
00:56:31 So we have 49ers and then as we wrap up here Lions Bucks over on the NFC side
00:56:39 Sky I can't go against MC DC. I mean that team is so fun to watch. They're easy to root for
00:56:48 They're like your your old-school blue-collar
00:56:52 Can you explain MC DC
00:56:55 My head I was like
00:56:59 MCDC MC DC Motor City Dan Campbell, baby
00:57:03 So
00:57:12 gotta go with
00:57:14 Those guys that like to rip people's kneecaps off and chew them and spit them out or whatever the heck that he said a couple
00:57:20 years ago
00:57:22 That's a team that's confident right now. Jared golf's playing
00:57:26 Really really well. Yep Baker Mayfield and the Bucks. I think they just kind of
00:57:32 Caught the Eagles at the worst time possible for Philly the best time possible for them. So I'm gonna go Detroit
00:57:39 Stu
00:57:42 Detroit baby, hopefully M&Ms in the house, too
00:57:46 Sweet
00:57:49 So, okay, so Ravens Bills AFC championship 49ers Lions NFC champion, well we consensus all the way around I
00:57:56 Think so. No, no
00:57:59 Yeah, yeah, we mean you picked the Ravens everything else though
00:58:05 Yeah that Chiefs Bills game though just kind of I can't wait for that one yeah
00:58:12 Yeah, so we got some good matchups man. Like I'm it's always weird every year like cuz we never
00:58:19 This wasn't the the grouping of playoff teams that we thought
00:58:23 we were gonna have like in the division around but there's some good matchups here like I
00:58:28 Division the vision the vision weekend is probably the best weekend in sports other than March Madness opening Brown first and second round
00:58:37 The upsets and everything but this weekend coming up the games we're gonna have on Saturday and Sunday
00:58:41 All of them are good in my opinion even the Bucks Lions game looks pretty interesting now after what we just saw what the Bucks did
00:58:48 last night, so
00:58:50 Two wins away from Super Bowl so you imagine a Baker Mayfield the Super Bowl champion when also
00:58:56 He's the Super Bowl MVP
00:58:59 Or the same Cisco 49ers handout rings to like former Panthers
00:59:03 You really want to make it worse?
00:59:06 Tampa and Houston in the Super Bowl
00:59:08 CJ Stroud versus
00:59:15 Buffalo is half as Carolina North. We call him Carolina North. We've been calling that for years Buffalo still in this
00:59:20 This is crazy looking around the teams that are still playing that have been affected by
00:59:24 either moves we've made or players we've sent off or
00:59:28 Whatever the past five years that are active right now
00:59:31 I also do want to apologize to Jordan love because I believe at some point last offseason
00:59:37 We were talking about you know different trade trade options and quarterback
00:59:41 Scenarios for the Panthers and I think we referenced Jordan and I was like that guy's no trade value like I remember
00:59:49 Why would you trade for Jordan love if your job is on the line if you're Scott fitter? Why would you do that?
00:59:56 Jordan love watch that episode and like take the picture of you in his locker. It was like that guy
01:00:11 It would say a lot for Green Bay Packers if Jordan love wins and
01:00:17 Like if they beat the 49ers
01:00:19 man, oh
01:00:22 What Aaron Rodgers hasn't been able to do as a
01:00:25 Because isn't that like the they've lost to the 49ers
01:00:33 Yeah
01:00:39 I know a lot of Packer fans. I'm friends with that are not Aaron Rodgers fans and they bring that up constantly
01:00:44 Well, well, he couldn't beat the 49ers like, you know, we couldn't do this and I'm like dang
01:00:48 We couldn't beat for an honor so, you know, what good is that Wow?
01:00:54 Wow, um, I just remembered I suppose read this two minutes into the show. We're ending it now. I'm gonna read the read for
