00:00 The health department urged to study the field health first before they will implement an increase in monthly contribution.
00:07 Meanwhile, the DOH targets that malnutrition will enter the country within two years.
00:13 Joshua Garcia is in the center of the live news.
00:17 Yes Audrey, regarding malnutrition and the current discussion on the rise of field health among its members,
00:27 these are the issues that the Department of Health gave a clear lead on by Secretary Ted Herbosa.
00:32 Audrey, if the government of health will ask, they need to study the field health first before they will implement an increase in premium monthly contribution.
00:42 According to Secretary Herbosa, one of his recommendations to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is to lower it to 4.5% and increase it instead of 5%.
00:54 My recommendation is to start from where we stopped, not the current 5%. That to me is the logical way to lift the suspension.
01:01 We don't jump to a very high because people are pitiful.
01:05 In addition, the field health has enough funds to continue to provide benefits and services to their members.
01:17 My position is I think field health has enough money to actually continue to give benefits and it will not be hurt by delaying the increase in premium.
01:28 Meanwhile, Audrey, the target of the Ministry of Health and Welfare is that malnutrition will enter the country within one to two years.
01:37 The Department of Health has issued a reform to the health services to address the issues of malnutrition in the country.
01:43 According to DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa, it has eight priorities to improve the health care system and address the illnesses in the country.
01:52 These are immunization, nutrition, maternal mortality, tuberculosis, HIV, road safety, non-communicable disease such as hypertension and diabetes,
02:03 detection of cancer, digital health or digitalization to centralize health records, information and others.
02:10 At present, Audrey, the rate of child stunting in the country is at 27% or the decrease due to malnutrition.
02:17 It is equivalent to 3 out of 10 Filipino children.
02:20 The Philippines deteriorated. We went down. Our nutritional rate, our life expectancy went up but our nutrition didn't improve.
02:31 Why? Our feeding program is wrong.
02:33 We feed them at age 3, daycare age 3 or 4. That's the last.
02:40 We feed them at school age. That's the last. Their brain is already stunted.
02:46 According to Secretary Herbosa, Audrey, children should be given the right and sufficient nutrition from the first 1000 days.
02:58 It should be ensured that it is not junk food but a nutritious food that can be given to children.
03:03 We need innovation. We need a human capital that will drive the economy forward.
03:09 So we need to save these children through the first 1000 days.
03:15 Additionally, health literacy or education should be provided to the public, especially to mothers who bring their children to their children's care.
03:26 Until then, it is just a small amount.
03:28 It's a tall order. Changing nutrition from 3 out of 10 children to 0 stunting. That's our goal.
03:37 But we need to educate mothers. We need to educate everyone.
03:43 Audrey, Secretary Herbosa also called on the media to help the government to provide information to the public
03:52 on how to take care of the health and raise the welfare of families and communities in how to fight malnutrition. Audrey?
04:02 Joshua, are there any DOHs who can advise on how to ensure that the food that children will receive is nutritious in their first 1000 days?
04:15 Yes, Audrey. Good question. Aside from the health literacy mentioned by Secretary Herbosa,
04:27 one of his recommendations is to return home cooked food to the children for their first 1000 days
04:37 so that they can get the right nutrition for their feeding program.
04:42 And where they can get help through their collaboration and consultation with other government agencies and non-government organizations. Audrey?
04:55 Maraming salamat, Joshua Garcia.
