00:00 - Got it.
00:01 I say this?
00:02 Let's go.
00:03 Let's go.
00:05 You can't stump me.
00:06 Ooh, I don't know.
00:06 You might've stumped me with this one.
00:08 I'm not sure.
00:08 [upbeat music]
00:11 I thought you were my friends.
00:14 Win together, lose together, teammates.
00:17 High School Musical?
00:20 Nice.
00:22 First one?
00:23 They're all similar dialogue, I don't know.
00:26 - I thought that you're my friends.
00:28 Win together, lose together, teammates.
00:30 - The cast and the group of people making that movie
00:33 was just magical.
00:34 There's a time and a place for everything
00:36 and everything happens for a reason
00:38 and High School Musical's the prime example for that.
00:41 I've never had so much fun, maybe a few times,
00:44 but it was still, to this day,
00:47 maybe one of the most fun experiences of my whole life.
00:49 It just shows on camera.
00:51 The whole first movie,
00:52 we practiced those dance routines once or twice.
00:55 We just get up there and do it.
00:57 So I couldn't believe we got ahead in the game.
00:58 I couldn't believe we got a clean take of that.
01:00 The first couple takes,
01:01 there were basketballs flying everywhere.
01:03 It was chaos.
01:04 We were like, "We're never gonna get this."
01:06 And then everyone from the window just nailed it.
01:07 It changed everything for me.
01:10 I had just a really great group of friends.
01:12 It was fun to be out there doing really exciting, fun,
01:16 music-forward work.
01:17 It wasn't so serious.
01:19 Definitely made me very popular, so that was interesting.
01:22 I remember I could afford to move out of my house
01:25 and live in LA.
01:27 Everything got really interesting from that point forward.
01:31 Padres, before I sleep with tu madres.
01:34 And that's from Neighbors.
01:36 - Padres, before I sleep with tu madres.
01:40 - We did a ton of improv on that movie.
01:42 There's at least some improv in every scene I'm in.
01:44 It was really fun.
01:45 Dave was the best.
01:46 Yeah, he crushed that.
01:47 Usually the funny stories with Seth
01:49 are just how much general improv we were doing.
01:53 It was always surprising what he comes up with.
01:56 And also when you get two or three lines deep
02:00 and you stick with the character,
02:01 some just ridiculous stuff comes out.
02:03 Just in general, doing that with Seth is hilarious.
02:06 It's so much fun.
02:07 I just woke up in jail with a bunch of penises on my forehead.
02:10 Dirty Grandpa.
02:13 I just woke up in fucking jail
02:16 with a bunch of penises on my forehead.
02:18 There was a couple times that he,
02:21 they were kinda out there sayings.
02:22 I can't remember specifically which ones,
02:24 nor would I repeat them on Variety.
02:26 But there were some pretty vulgar things he was saying
02:30 and he had no idea what he was talking about.
02:32 So he'd be like, he'd look at me in between takes and go,
02:35 "What does that mean?"
02:36 I'd be like, "Oh, you don't wanna know that."
02:38 He's so masterful at committing with the emotion
02:43 and kinda sticking with it.
02:44 So you get to a point where it's like,
02:46 you don't know if you're gonna use any of it.
02:48 And we got there like every day.
02:50 He would just shut me down with amazing improv
02:54 and I would just break.
02:55 'Cause him saying ridiculous stuff is like,
02:58 I don't know, it's like he's got God's voice, sort of.
03:02 You know, it's like.
03:04 Because as much as I know about laptops,
03:06 I don't know shit about computers.
03:08 Oh my gosh, this was an improv.
03:11 Baywatch?
03:13 Got it, let's go.
03:15 - 'Cause as much as I know about laptops,
03:17 I don't know shit about computers.
03:19 - It's funny, when you watch source material
03:21 and you're doing something, I remember going like,
03:24 "We're really gonna recreate it like this?
03:26 "This is, is this a good idea?"
03:28 I don't want that to come across the wrong way.
03:30 We ended up kinda just doing our own thing for that movie.
03:33 I did legit swim lessons and a ton of training.
03:37 That was really intense.
03:38 And we had a really great stunt crew on that movie.
03:40 There's a lot of stunts looking back on it.
03:42 We do some pretty ridiculous stuff in that movie.
03:45 It was really fun.
03:46 Four tickets to that party,
03:48 you called the right guy.
03:49 Neighbors?
03:55 [buzzer]
03:55 I say this?
03:57 Oh!
03:58 New Year's Eve.
04:00 [bell dings]
04:00 Yes!
04:01 - Four tickets to that party,
04:03 you called the right guy.
04:04 - I've never done a movie like New Year's Eve before.
04:07 And it was a massive ensemble, really big cast,
04:11 big setup, beautiful sequences of New Year's Eve
04:16 that were so much fun.
04:17 But I had the benefit of being with Michelle Pfeiffer
04:20 for all of my stuff.
04:21 And she's, I love her to death.
04:23 She's so much fun.
04:24 And it just felt like I was on a mini vacation
04:26 with her in New York, which was awesome.
04:28 It was just a great experience.
04:29 But I think it was like the New Year's Eve actual kiss
04:32 that Michelle had.
04:33 I'll never forget that.
04:34 It was very special.
04:37 My prom is wherever you are.
04:39 My prom is wherever you are.
04:43 High school musical?
04:46 Three?
04:47 [bell dings]
04:48 Let's go.
04:49 Let's go.
04:51 You can't stump me.
04:52 My prom is wherever you are.
04:55 When we made High School Musical one,
04:57 we definitely had no idea that there would be two or three.
05:00 It was just like a roller coaster that wouldn't drop.
05:04 It was so much fun.
05:05 But we were so happy when they came around.
05:09 We just were all so stoked.
05:11 It was like the most fun musical summer camp
05:15 with everybody that was becoming progressively more elite
05:19 at singing, dancing, and just the arts and entertainment
05:23 all crammed together from the days before
05:27 anyone was popular to after.
05:29 By the time three hit, we were just firing.
05:32 It was so fun.
05:33 The musical genre, it's tricky.
05:36 I would love to do another musical.
05:38 It's hard though.
05:41 It's like once you've done High School Musical,
05:45 it takes a greatest showman to separate itself from that.
05:49 I still want to do the same thing over and over again.
05:52 Listen, girls, if you don't respect yourself,
05:54 how do you expect others to respect you?
05:57 How do you expect others?
05:59 Ooh, I don't know.
06:02 You might have stumped me with this one.
06:03 I'm not sure.
06:04 It's gonna come to me.
06:06 17 again, maybe?
06:07 [bell dings]
06:08 Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.
06:10 If you girls don't respect yourselves,
06:13 then how do you expect anyone else to respect you?
06:17 I had the benefit of being able to watch Matthew
06:22 my whole life before that movie started.
06:25 It's not like we hammered home how to do the jokes
06:28 or the character, I just had to make it true to myself
06:31 and be able to make it happen.
06:32 But there's those things that Matthew Perry just invented.
06:36 The way he kind of just brought humor to camera,
06:38 they're like ingrained in me.
06:40 I think they're a huge part of why I'm here.
06:43 You know, it was comedic timing from Matthew Perry
06:46 for years and years and years.
06:48 I could kind of go through a scene in my mind
06:50 and be like, "Oh, he'd definitely do this.
06:52 "Oh, he'd definitely do that."
06:53 That was really all it took.
06:54 And that and putting yourself in your dad's shoes,
06:57 which was really crazy.
06:58 Yeah, but thanks, Matthew.
07:01 Ever since I was a child, people said my family was cursed.
07:05 And that's from "Iron Claw," or "The Iron Claw."
07:08 [bell dings]
07:09 - Ever since I was a child,
07:11 people said my family was cursed.
07:14 - The movie's really, it's epic.
07:16 It's an epic story.
07:17 I think everyone can really kind of relate
07:19 to the story as well.
07:21 It really is a story about love and family
07:26 and the lengths that you're willing to go
07:29 for the people that you love.
07:30 It's truly beautiful.
07:31 I think it's gonna surprise a lot of people.
07:32 So I'm pumped for everyone to see that one.
07:35 I think a lot goes into playing anyone
07:36 that's ever really existed.
07:38 But having the person be around
07:40 and still be able to see it,
07:42 like Kevin Von Eyrik is for this movie,
07:44 it just makes me have an extra layer
07:46 of wanting precision and making sure
07:50 that you're doing it justice.
07:51 It just motivated me extra hard, I would say.
07:55 It just makes it all very real and close to home.
07:58 And I did get to talk to him,
07:59 and I know he's seen the movie.
08:00 And he told me he really liked it.
08:04 And we talked for a long time about it.
08:06 So yeah, mission accomplished, man.
08:10 [upbeat music]
08:13 [upbeat music]
08:15 (upbeat music)
