The latest winter storm will be moving up the East Coast on Tuesday after lake-effect snow buried western New York this past weekend.
Transcript
00:00 Meantime, New York getting buried by lake effect snow this weekend, including Buffalo.
00:05 We saw two to three inches of snow an hour and gusty conditions under the lake effect
00:09 snow ban.
00:10 In Hamburg, meantime, businesses were shut down and drivers got stuck in the deep snow.
00:15 More snow is on the way for the Northeast this week.
00:18 For those details, we're going to bring in Melissa Constanzer.
00:21 Melissa looks like they made the right decision to move the NFL playoff football game, which
00:27 was supposed to be yesterday.
00:28 They had it today, they got about a foot and a half of snow, I believe, in Orchard
00:33 Park.
00:34 Yeah, and not too far away.
00:35 Hamburg, West Seneca, Derby, all picking up more than 40 inches of snow.
00:39 It's like a mile or two away from Orchard Park.
00:41 It's amazing.
00:42 Exactly.
00:43 It's not that far.
00:44 So that's what we're talking about.
00:45 Really subtle differences there can make huge, huge differences as far as snowfall totals.
00:50 And that's what you get when you talk about lake effect snow.
00:52 Well, we're still talking about lake effect snow in some areas, but that band has since
00:56 shifted north more towards Niagara Falls as you look around the Buffalo area and for
01:01 Watertown, it's also lifted north there too.
01:03 Meanwhile, off towards the south, there's a new snow band in town.
01:06 This one not like effect at all.
01:08 It's part of that same storm system Kevin's been talking about through the southern U.S.
01:11 And here it is driving the snow through Kentucky, West Virginia and actually Virginia too.
01:16 Places like Richmond have picked up on snow, several inches of it too.
01:20 Some places two inches just outside of town.
01:22 Washington D.C. has the snow.
01:25 Philadelphia has the snow.
01:26 New York City, you're getting it soon.
01:27 The Garden State, New Jersey has dealt with the snow right to the coast.
01:32 What's different about yesterday to today beyond the snow is the winds.
01:37 Washington D.C. was much nicer to get this that snow coming down with just six mile per
01:42 hour winds.
01:43 But you have to remember, even though the winds have lightened up throughout the day,
01:45 the cold air has settled in for many Detroit 715 in Buffalo and we're at 29 in New York
01:51 City and we have struggled to make it to 32 today.
01:54 We will stay in the 20s overnight tonight as the snow advances northward.
01:58 New York, Boston will get in on the action.
02:01 So if you're headed Tuesday morning to work or school, it's going to be a mess.
02:05 Here we go.
02:06 Tuesday, you can see the map, lots of blue and there is that mixing threat for places
02:10 like New York City and Boston.
02:12 So we're not necessarily talking about all snow here.
02:15 In fact, both of the AccuWeather forecasts officially call for at least some rain trying
02:19 to mix in or freezing drizzle in Boston and New York City.
02:22 So we will be dealing with that as we go through Tuesday.
02:24 Washington, D.C., the last flakes move out early.
02:27 Here's that blue coming northward as we go through the middle of the night and tonight
02:31 through tomorrow morning.
02:32 Things are pretty active, but we also have more of that moisture developing on the southern
02:36 side.
02:37 So the drive into work pretty tricky there, possibly for Washington, D.C., especially
02:40 for Philadelphia and New York.
02:42 And then as you get into Boston, it's still trying to pull out through the afternoon hours
02:46 before it departs tomorrow evening.
02:48 One to three inches, fairly widespread across the northeast.
02:51 We've already picked that up in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, where we've had at least
02:56 an inch, which, by the way, does break that snowless streak.
03:00 Philadelphia, we're on our way to it.
03:02 One to two inches of snowfall, according to the AccuWeather Wintercast.
03:06 And you can get this anytime on AccuWeather.com and AccuWeather app.
03:10 Kevin?
