A total of 288 students who sat their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education last year have been picked for the government-sponsored Elimu Yetu scholarship program.

01:13 sponsored for high school so that the situation in their homes do not hinder them from continuing with their education
01:23 and leaving them behind in the community to loiter around and maybe join gangs or groups that are illegal.
01:33 We are here to flag off the beneficiaries of Jomo Kenyatta ELIMU Foundation.
01:39 The Jomo Kenyatta ELIMU Foundation is a subset of the government and under the Ministry of Education
01:48 that gives scholarship to vulnerable children.
01:52 We are happy that today we are flagging off 288 children who have benefited,
01:59 who have successfully been interviewed and benefited for this program.
02:05 And on this note, I want to take this opportunity also to thank the government.
02:11 When we were going out in the field, we saw that there were many, very many children who needed to be assisted.
02:23 It was unfortunate. It was saddening to leave other children who equally needed this assistance.
02:33 But however, we had only a location of 288 and so we had only to pick 288.
02:41 As I thank the government, I want to pray that God will give us more money to be able to sponsor more children and more families in the county.
02:55 First, I want to thank the living God because he's the one who has brought us here today and to the ELIMU scholarship program.
03:03 This scholarship will enable us, all of us, especially students to learn, achieve their goals and also help those in need who cannot go to school.
03:15 ELIMU scholarship will also help me because at home I couldn't afford to go to school where I was called to.
03:25 And since I have been selected by ELIMU scholarship, I promise to work hard, achieve my goal and also help those in need.
