Wales headlines 11 January: Wales ‘among worst’ for cancer survival rates

Wales ranks among the worst at cancer survival rates, according to new data from the Less Survivable Cancers Taskforce. Wales ranks 32nd among similarly developed countries for stomach cancer, and similar for others. The Welsh government say cancer survival is one of the priorities for the NHS and is committed to improvement.

The Westgate Hotel in Newport, on the site of the last armed uprising in Wales is in danger of decaying. The 1839 chartist uprising ended at the site, where gunshots were heard, and was one of the first steps on the road to modern democracy in the UK. A planning committee called the state of the site a tragedy.

Wales’ national women’s side are in the hunt for a new manager after Gemma Grainger stepped down from the role. She’s been in the job for almost three years, but has since taken on a new role as head coach with former world and European champions Norwegian national women’s side.
