00:00 I'm J.D. Durkin reporting from the New York Stock Exchange.
00:03 Stocks were in the green to close out today's session.
00:05 The Dow up 170 points.
00:07 The Nasdaq up 0.7% while the S&P 500 closed up 0.5%.
00:13 The focus for investors this week, of course, is key inflation data, Thursday's Consumer
00:17 Price Index as well as Friday's producer prices.
00:21 These two reports will shed a bit of light on the U.S. economy while offering hints about
00:25 the Fed's future interest rate decisions.
00:28 Following these reports, Wall Street will turn its attention to fourth quarter earnings
00:31 season as the big banks are set to release their results on Friday.
00:36 In other news, after a blockbuster movie that brought in over a billion dollars to the box
00:40 office and two Golden Globe wins, Mattel is making Barbie a full-time member of the movie
00:46 industry.
00:47 The company announced its 2024 Barbie Career of the Year-themed dolls and the iconic toys
00:52 taken on Hollywood.
00:54 Mattel introduced four new dolls for its Women in Film series.
00:58 There's studio executive Barbie, director Barbie, cinematographer Barbie and, of course,
01:03 movie star Barbie as well.
01:05 Each doll is on sale for $50 a piece.
01:08 The company says the dolls are meant to encourage girls to be creative and think about a potential
01:11 career in the movie industry.
01:14 It's the second year in a row that Mattel has chosen to give Barbie careers in typically
01:17 male-dominated industries.
01:19 The 2023 career dolls featured sports-related positions including coach, referee and general
01:25 manager.
01:26 The first Barbie debuted all the way back in 1959, but Mattel did not create the Career
01:31 of the Year spotlight until 2010.
01:33 Since its start, Barbie has held over 250 different jobs.
01:38 That will do it for your daily briefing.
01:40 From the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, I'm J.D. Durkin with the Street.
01:43 Thanks for watching.
