00:00 More than 1,000 people were infected with food and waterborne diseases in Baguio City.
00:05 That's why the LGU declared an acute gastroenteritis outbreak.
00:10 Jasmine Gabriel Galvan, GMA Regional TV, One North Central Luzon.
00:15 I would like to officially declare that we have an outbreak of gastroenteritis.
00:27 That declaration was made by the Mayor of Baguio City,
00:30 just after the unheard of diarrhea cases in Luzon, according to their health service office.
00:36 As of now, 1,602 cases of food and waterborne diseases have been reported in the City of Pines.
00:43 More than 200 establishments and 80 houses were affected.
00:47 Among the 14 members of the Kirubin family who were infected from Rizal and visited Baguio last holiday season,
00:55 they were hospitalized after experiencing nausea, stomach pain and vomiting.
01:00 According to Mary Grace, they went up to Baguio on January 5 and ate at a food establishment.
01:06 They were given service water.
01:09 They were still hospitalized but were able to go home.
01:12 However, they were not able to recover from their stomach pain.
01:15 It's hard to go home. Our trip was long. It was almost four hours.
01:20 We really went up for five hours because all of our stopovers were stopped because we were all coughing.
01:27 Some of the patients were from Itogon, Tuba and Atrindad who ate at a food establishment in Baguio City.
01:34 According to Mayor Magalong, he was the one who was infected and some of his relatives and friends were also infected with diarrhea.
01:41 The local government held an emergency meeting because of the continuous increase in the number of diarrhea cases.
01:46 The City Health Services Office's investigation is wide and in-depth.
01:50 The main focus is the possible contamination of water.
01:53 More than three establishments and their residents will get water samples for water testing.
01:59 We will be up on our toes and doing a lot of water testing.
02:04 Actually, we are now, from the meeting with the mayor this morning, we are now partnering with the BCPO to help us also do the water testing as fast as we can
02:17 so that we can screen the water and if it's positive, then we will now subject it to bacteriological examination.
02:25 The hospital is preparing for the case of diarrhea in the city even though the number of cases has increased.
02:30 I think the hospitals can accommodate it since they don't usually stay in hospitals.
02:37 But it's usually OPD.
02:38 Yes, it's usually OPD.
02:40 Until Friday, the results of the water tests are expected to be released.
02:44 But while the results are not yet released, drinking water from the tap is temporarily prohibited.
