00:05 London's South Wark Coroner's Court confirms to TMZ on January 9th that the
00:11 singer died from natural causes, adding the coroner has therefore ceased their
00:17 involvement in her death. The coroner's report comes nearly six months following
00:22 the singer's death at the age of 56. In a statement given to Irish media outlet
00:28 RTE at the time, her family said, "It is with great sadness that we announce the
00:34 passing of our beloved Sinead." Her family and friends are devastated and
00:39 have requested privacy at this very difficult time. Prior to her death, the
00:44 Grammy winner had recently updated fans in a post on her Facebook page, revealing
00:50 she had moved back to London and was finishing new music. She wrote at the
00:55 time, "Hi all. Recently moved back to London after 23 years absence. Very happy
01:02 to be home. Soon finishing my album. Release early next year." She added,
01:08 "Hopefully touring Australia and New Zealand toward end 2024. Europe, USA and
01:15 other territories beginning early 2025." The singer, born in Dublin, Ireland in
01:22 1966, gained fame with her first album, The Lion and the Cobra. She captured
01:28 worldwide acclaim for her cover of the song "Nothing Compares to You," which was
01:33 originally penned by Prince.
01:37 In addition to her music, the singer was also known for being outspoken. In 1993,
01:51 when she was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, Sinead shocked
01:55 audiences when she ripped up a photograph of Pope John Paul II during
02:00 an acapella cover of Bob Marley's song "War." Sinead was also open about her
02:06 mental health, revealing in a 2007 interview that she had previously been
02:11 diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She had also said she had attempted suicide in
02:16 1999 on her 33rd birthday. Sinead is survived by her three children. Her son
02:22 Shane died by an apparent suicide in 2022 at the age of 17.
