Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast offers a complete recap of the Silver and Black season finale win over the Denver Broncos.
Transcript
00:00 Hi everybody, this is Hondo Carpenter with the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast.
00:06 Thank you for joining us tonight for the Raiders take down the Broncos 27 to 14.
00:13 Was an interesting game from a lot of different angles.
00:16 I've received the Broncos bunch benched Russell Wilson, Gerrit Stidham played for them.
00:22 But to me, this game, and this is no disrespect to the Broncos.
00:26 This game was about the Raiders and this was about them making a statement.
00:31 I don't really think it mattered who they played tonight.
00:35 They wanted to make a statement and the Raiders did just that.
00:38 I want to go over a ton of information for you.
00:41 I'm also going to answer a question.
00:43 I had numerous emails and social media people asking me if I had to guess who do I think
00:48 the coach is.
00:49 I'm going to let you know now based on some things that I know I needed to talk to some
00:54 people after the game.
00:55 Some people said is your answer predicated on a win?
00:59 No, but I want to get into all that in a minute.
01:02 But the first job is to completely recap this game for you.
01:06 Again, I'm here at Allegiant Stadium.
01:09 I thought Dayton O'Connell laid out standing.
01:12 Now I'm just going to say this, you're welcome to any opinion.
01:16 I'm respectful of yours.
01:19 But if you start putting stupidity in the comments, I don't want to talk to you because
01:23 you're not a football person.
01:24 He had a quarterback rating of 110 tonight, which was excellent.
01:30 Dayton O'Connell was 20 of 31, 244 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions.
01:36 Okay, the sack came from a spot, he didn't see it.
01:41 That's going to happen to anybody.
01:43 But he's not hurting this team.
01:44 He's not costing this team.
01:46 I like you am irritated when it's third and 12 and they do a screen.
01:52 But you also need to understand why.
01:55 Antonio Pearce's philosophy is just win.
02:00 They didn't get training camp.
02:01 They didn't get OTAs.
02:02 They didn't get mini camps.
02:04 They've only had nine games.
02:08 And so they knew, hey, let our defense stop them.
02:12 We know that they will.
02:14 We're not going to take risks.
02:16 We're going to protect the football.
02:18 When we ask you to do stuff, we trust that you will.
02:21 Just don't get turnovers and put our defense on a short field.
02:26 And so they played the long game.
02:30 I don't like third and 12.
02:31 I want you to throw at 13.
02:33 But I understand they haven't had the time to put together the playbook and all the plan
02:38 and all of it.
02:40 And so they played to win, not playing to look sexy.
02:44 There's a difference.
02:46 And all that they have done is win.
02:50 I mean, there's losses in there.
02:52 But I mean, compared to-- there's so many areas where this team is winning.
02:57 Tonight was the second time this year, zero penalties.
03:00 Only three teams since the 2000 season in 23 years have-- well, 24 seasons, actually,
03:07 but 2000 to 2023 have had two games of zero penalties.
03:12 The '01 Jets and the '13 Patriots, they're the 13.
03:17 By the way, I want to thank my mentor and dear friend Rick Gosling for sending me that
03:20 stat.
03:22 But again, played very disciplined.
03:25 They didn't beat themselves when it was third and 12.
03:29 And they knew that, hey, there can be some blitz packages here or some-- you're dropping
03:34 down some extra guys in coverage.
03:37 Let's just do a quick screen.
03:38 If we don't get it, we punt the ball.
03:41 We trust AJ Cole.
03:43 We trust our defense.
03:44 We'll live to play another day.
03:45 And they get the win that I told you they would get.
03:48 I told you I thought double digits.
03:50 And again, it was 27-14, 13-point win.
03:56 I don't read a lot of social media anymore.
03:59 And I apologize, because I really enjoy interacting with 95% of you.
04:05 But the 5% of you who are just completely irrational, oh, this wasn't a win.
04:10 Denver sucks.
04:11 OK, but you play who's on your schedule, and they're an AFC West rival.
04:14 And oh, by the way, the Denver Broncos have never beaten the Las Vegas Raiders.
04:19 You go to Kansas City and beat the Super Bowl champions on Christmas Day.
04:23 You can point to bad games 100%.
04:27 You can absolutely do that.
04:29 And I agree with you, by the way.
04:32 But when you look at the cards that they were dealt and what they did, when you look at
04:37 the cards that they were dealt and how they handled it, when you look at the cards that
04:40 they were dealt and how they-- and my buddy Harry Ruiz is right here.
04:44 Come over and say hi to everybody on the podcast, Harry.
04:46 What's up, everybody?
04:47 Get your head down.
04:48 There you go.
04:49 There we go.
04:50 Good to see you, brother.
04:51 Hey, brother.
04:52 Tell your girlfriend hi.
04:53 So when you look at every single thing that goes into what they had to do, their priority
04:58 was just win.
05:00 So we're not going to get style points for being sexy.
05:03 So what if he would have thrown for 500 yards but had three interceptions and they lost?
05:09 I can deal with that.
05:11 I don't care who you are.
05:12 If your motto is just win, you just won.
05:15 So now if you want to say, oh, it was only the Broncos or, OK, was it only the Chiefs?
05:23 So those of you-- and here's the deal.
05:25 If you don't want AP, just say, I don't want AP.
05:27 But don't throw away a win.
05:30 What a win.
05:31 I thought it was a great win.
05:32 This was a very well-coached game.
05:35 I admire the way AP tells Bo, OK, we're going to do this.
05:41 That's exactly what they did.
05:43 If you don't like it, that's on AP.
05:45 But there was nothing I saw tonight.
05:47 I'm going to tell you this flat out.
05:50 If you weren't here in the stadium, I don't know what comes across on TV.
05:56 But several times, the crowd chanted AP, AP, AP, after the game, Ted Hendricks, Marcus
06:02 Allen, Jim Otto, Charles Woodson, and I think there was one other, were all in the locker
06:12 room advocating for him to get the job, for AP to get the job, players advocating for
06:17 him to get the job, the crowd advocating for him to get the job.
06:22 To me, this is very simple.
06:25 He's your guy.
06:26 You go hire AP.
06:28 There's a lot of people that want Harbaugh.
06:29 And I think you have great arguments.
06:32 They coach him.
06:33 But there are concerns that come with Jim Harbaugh.
06:35 There are concerns.
06:38 What if the NCAA investigation finds issues?
06:43 So the NFL suspends him like they did.
06:48 Jim Dressel, when you remember, he went to the Indianapolis Colts.
06:52 But not just that.
06:53 I've had Braylon Edwards on this podcast, and other players I've talked to who played
06:58 for him.
06:59 And where Jim goes, he wears people out.
07:02 Now who cares if you win?
07:04 I'm not saying that because you heard Braylon Edwards on this podcast say he seems to have
07:10 changed.
07:11 Braylon played for him in San Francisco and said that.
07:16 I didn't enjoy playing for him, but now he seems to be different.
07:21 And Braylon's nephew's on the team.
07:24 But you're going to have a guy come in who's going to be very strong, like a John Gruden
07:29 and a Josh McDaniels were.
07:31 Make no mistake, whoever's named GM is going to be working for him.
07:36 I think that's dangerous.
07:38 I'm sorry.
07:39 There are very few coaches who can succeed in that.
07:46 And you only saw Bill Belichick succeed in that when he had a Tom Brady, the best quarterback
07:50 of all time.
07:52 So I think that's very dangerous.
07:54 I don't think that's wise.
07:58 But if he comes, make no mistake, that is what he will come regardless of what they
08:02 say.
08:03 That's going to be it.
08:04 But I think he has done enough.
08:08 And I think he goes five and nine.
08:10 He writes the ship.
08:11 I mean, you look at, I believe they're number one in the NFL now for penalized team.
08:18 I literally would not be shocked if the NFL fined the Raiders for being the least penalized
08:23 team.
08:26 That's just non-Raider-ish.
08:29 But AP, that's AP.
08:30 How about Aiden O'Connell?
08:32 Look at his maturation.
08:34 He's been phenomenal.
08:35 Do they need to upgrade the staff?
08:37 Of course.
08:38 A hundred percent.
08:40 But I thought they needed to do that under Josh McDaniels.
08:45 But this is a very, very good staff.
08:49 Several guys that will stay.
08:53 And this is clear now.
08:55 So here is what do I think is going to happen.
08:58 And I'll tell you exactly why.
09:00 It's going to be very difficult for Mark Davis to go against so many, all of his players,
09:08 so many of his important alumni, to go get him.
09:13 But I know Tom Brady carries a lot of weight with him.
09:17 That's a factual statement.
09:18 I'm the one that broke the story.
09:20 Tom was in the building on Friday.
09:25 Carries a lot of weight.
09:26 Him and Jim Gray carry a lot of weight.
09:28 Now they're both good guys.
09:29 This is not an attack on either one of them.
09:33 And if they want to go in a different direction, they're going to carry a lot of Mark's here.
09:39 But for Mark to go hire Harbaugh, who's a great coach, great coach.
09:48 He is going to be turning his back on his locker room for the second time in less than
09:54 two years.
09:55 Well, not that true.
09:57 Two years.
10:00 That's huge.
10:01 He's going to be doing it against his locker room and against his fan base.
10:07 Now you may say, well, I'm part of the fan base and I don't want to.
10:10 I agree.
10:11 This isn't like it's a hundred percent, but it's a ton.
10:16 And I think if I'm an owner of any of the other 31 teams and I need a coach, I'm going
10:22 to go talk to Jim Harbaugh.
10:23 Now I have things I want to address with him.
10:26 I'm not going to give you GM powers.
10:29 And if I'm an owner, I'm going to go hire a GM and then let them go hire Harbaugh if
10:36 they want.
10:37 If I'm going to call the GM, you better be in charge.
10:40 Because as an owner, I think you hire a GM and let the GM do it.
10:43 I think the best thing that can happen, and I've said this before and have taken criticism
10:48 even from my colleagues, which makes no sense to me.
10:52 There is a Rooney rule.
10:54 I have acknowledged that.
10:57 But if I'm Mark Davis, I tell everybody the Rooney rule was not invented for us.
11:02 And I do what Rick Gosling said, who's the very famous NFL writer and others.
11:08 I'll be telling you who some of them are later this week, but I go hire him.
11:13 He's a minority.
11:14 The Rooney rule is there to give minority opportunities.
11:17 It's also there to give other guys interviews.
11:20 So they start to get known because we have a Rooney rule because for years, the minority
11:25 coach was ignored.
11:29 That's a fact.
11:30 I don't care where you are politically.
11:32 That is not a political statement.
11:34 That's a statement of fact.
11:36 But you're hiring one.
11:37 Hey, we got to get on to the process.
11:38 We got to get going.
11:40 I can tell you right now, because there has been some speculation, people have said to
11:44 me, I think Mark has told them they have the job, but don't say anything.
11:48 I can tell you right now, neither man knows that they have the job.
11:55 Mark has not said anything to them about it.
11:59 They have no inkling either way.
12:09 I know that for a fact.
12:11 And so as the process begins to develop, if you want to obey the Rooney rule, because
12:18 the punishment could be the cost of draft picks.
12:20 And again, I've talked to multiple people who don't think the NFL would fine them picks,
12:25 even though that is the rules.
12:28 But when has the Raiders ever told the rules?
12:30 You guys have heard Matt Millen tell the story, his first day in training camp, he walks in
12:33 and says, rule number one, cheat.
12:34 Rule number two, don't forget rule number one.
12:38 And it's not cheating.
12:39 It's just saying we don't need the Rooney rule.
12:40 We're hiring a minority.
12:41 You really want to fine us?
12:43 Go ahead.
12:44 The rule wasn't made for us.
12:45 Go talk to the other teams and you do what you think is right.
12:50 I don't think it's right to go interview.
12:52 If Mark doesn't know, I think that's a bigger issue that I'm not going to get into today.
12:58 But if Mark doesn't know, then I think you absolutely go interview a bunch of people.
13:04 But if he knows and you go interview people knowing they're not going to get it, it's
13:10 disingenuous.
13:11 It's disingenuous.
13:12 And to me, appreciate you.
13:13 See you Mike.
13:14 Safe travels man.
13:15 And it's disingenuous.
13:16 If you're going to interview people knowing you've already hired you guys, disingenuous.
13:23 Now very quickly, I've told this story multiple times.
13:29 I'm going to tell it one more time because we're growing very fast.
13:31 Matt Mellon, dear friend of mine, general manager of the Lions.
13:36 He goes, retains Marty Morning Wig because the owner, Mr. Ford, wanted to run a West
13:41 Coast offense.
13:43 So he goes up, does a press conference.
13:45 Marty Morning Wig will be back.
13:47 A couple of days later, someone within the organization hired than Matt and he was president
13:52 and general manager.
13:56 Matt has asked me not to say the name of the person, so I won't.
14:00 But there's not a lot of people above the president and general manager.
14:04 Goes to him and says, okay, I hired Steve Mariucci.
14:06 And he's like, well, wait a minute.
14:10 We just did this press conference.
14:12 Whatever, doesn't matter.
14:15 So he goes and he has to interview people to obey the Rooney rule.
14:19 And Matt won't lie to them and say, you're getting a real interview.
14:24 Matt's like, two things.
14:25 I'm a Christian.
14:26 I'm not going to lie.
14:27 And number two, I am a raider.
14:31 And that's not the way I cut my teeth in the NFL.
14:33 I'm not going to lie to a minority about a job.
14:37 And so he would call people.
14:38 I need to interview people to honor the Rooney rule.
14:42 I want you to know you're not going to get the job.
14:46 Someone above me has already hired Steve Mariucci.
14:51 And so people didn't want to interview.
14:53 Can you blame them?
14:55 I wouldn't.
14:56 And people told him, Matt, if you can't find anyone, I'll do it for you.
14:59 I love you.
15:00 I care about you.
15:01 You're an honorable man.
15:03 But as a minority, it defeats what the rule is about.
15:06 So if you can find someone else.
15:08 And so he could have went back to those people.
15:11 But he said, no, I'm not doing it.
15:14 And he had to go.
15:15 He got called before Commissioner Taggablue and had to pay a $200,000 fine because he
15:20 wouldn't interview people and lie to them to make them think that the job was theirs.
15:25 So if Mark doesn't know, then I'd go interview a ton of people.
15:28 If he doesn't know, I think that's a really big issue.
15:32 But if he does know, I think it's absolutely disingenuous.
15:36 I've told you, I've had two general managers tell me they think they could rewrite the
15:41 contract, could have, before the season was over, rewrote the contracts to hire him.
15:47 I know the NFL says no.
15:50 Again, Rick Gosling said there's no way they're going after him.
15:55 And other people have told me that.
15:56 And I agree.
15:58 But if they do, it doesn't matter.
15:59 You're the Raiders.
16:00 You just did the right thing.
16:02 When does doing the right thing matter?
16:06 And again, this is only if he knows AP is his guy.
16:12 So here's where we're at.
16:14 I think it's going to be extremely difficult.
16:17 And I believe that the massive amounts of people who want AP, I believe Mark's heart
16:29 may be to go in a different direction if other people, if a Tom Brady, a Jim Gray, or someone
16:36 else is in his ear saying, "I think you should go in this direction."
16:38 And I don't know what Tom and Jim want.
16:42 So don't hear me.
16:43 They may be on board with AP.
16:47 But my point to you is, if there's any differentiation with anybody that's in his ear, I think Mark
16:57 wants to go with as much of a consensus of an opinion as he can.
17:04 And I would be shocked if he doesn't hire Antonio Pierce.
17:14 Now, I still think it's close.
17:20 I think it's a two-horse race.
17:22 If there is a third horse, it's Gruden, who's way back in the pack.
17:27 But I think when you saw tonight the crowd and you see the legends and the players, you
17:35 look at all the improvements that you can't deny with this team, multiple improvements,
17:40 the defense was good, it's better.
17:43 The offense is better.
17:45 Still not great, but better.
17:49 Penalties, come on.
17:51 Not even the same team.
17:53 The discipline, not even close.
17:56 The leadership, significantly better.
18:00 When you look at everything that was against them, to me, I think this is an easy hire.
18:07 Easy.
18:09 And there is a lot of momentum behind Rich Bisagia.
18:12 It's not even close to what it is now.
18:14 It's not even close.
18:16 So again, I want to say, I have no idea what Tom Brady or Jim Gray or any other advisors
18:21 opinion is.
18:23 I have no idea.
18:26 It may be AP, it may be somebody else.
18:29 I've been told by people, and I won't say which advisor because it may be somebody else,
18:36 but that there may be some advisors who are not on the AP train.
18:43 I'll just leave it there.
18:46 I won't say which ones, but I haven't talked to them, so it'd only be their opinion.
18:52 But I just think this is a no brainer for Mark.
18:57 You go make the deal and you let AP prove something.
19:03 And there we go.
19:04 All right, so now let's get into the complete recap of the game.
19:08 More of it.
19:09 I thought the crowd was outstanding today.
19:12 The crowd was outstanding, just outstanding.
19:14 I thought you guys were so loud.
19:17 Now I went to Lot J, got to meet a ton of you.
19:20 Now I apologize because I have been working since all night.
19:26 Sorry, I know I look terrible, but I have been.
19:31 I met so many wonderful people in J Lot today.
19:34 Thank you to everybody who stopped, wanted pictures.
19:36 I signed stuff.
19:37 Just so much fun meeting you guys.
19:40 I put up on Twitter.
19:41 I met these guys who made the best tri-tip I've ever had in my life.
19:46 And the ribs were amazing.
19:51 But the tri-tip was absolutely unbelievable.
19:54 Some sauce that they've been inventing for 30 years.
19:57 It was great.
19:58 I met a couple of guys named Nathan, but I met one of them.
20:02 Got to meet his uncle and his dad.
20:04 Ran into Vegas Ralph, but so many others.
20:08 But I met a lady and I apologize that I don't remember her name, but she's a tiny little
20:15 lady.
20:16 She's probably four foot five.
20:17 She retired from Orange County, California, and she bought this beautiful truck, her and
20:23 her husband and her son.
20:25 And people said, "Oh, are you going to Grand Canyon?"
20:27 She says, "No, I'm going to Raiders games."
20:28 And she makes drinks for the crowd, the people who don't bring tailgating stuff.
20:33 For some reason, I think it was Monique, but I'm sorry if I got it wrong, but whomever
20:39 that was.
20:41 What a, I think it's called drinks by Monique.
20:44 Again if I'm wrong on that, ma'am, I'm so sorry, but what a sweetheart of a lady she
20:48 was.
20:49 I just want to encourage all of you, get to J-Lot.
20:53 So I have to tell you something really funny, but next year, the first regular season game,
21:00 I'm going to do my best to get my wife and Dexter here.
21:04 I want them to go out in J-Lot.
21:05 Now here's why.
21:07 My wife sends me a text today.
21:12 This is what she says, "Honey, I know you're not a Raider fan.
21:17 I get it and I understand exactly why, but I needed to tell you something.
21:23 I am.
21:25 And so is Dexter."
21:27 And then she just put, "Raiders."
21:33 So you guys have influenced her.
21:35 So there you go.
21:36 I thought that was pretty funny and I thought you guys would all enjoy it, but I thought
21:39 the team today was exceptional.
21:41 I want to talk about just some of the stats because I thought it was fascinating.
21:48 First downs, Raiders had 22, Broncos had 17.
21:53 Third down efficiency, the Raiders are seven to 13, 54%.
21:59 You want to be over 50% on third down.
22:01 Very good.
22:03 The Broncos were 33%.
22:06 Fourth down efficiency, Raiders never tried one on fourth down.
22:11 The Broncos were, they got two of three.
22:14 And again, just talking about certain stats here.
22:19 Look at this, rushing the football, Zemir White, 112 yards, Trey Tucker, 11, Jacoby
22:28 Myers, five, Hayden O'Connell, one.
22:31 But remember there was some kneel downs in there too that go against that.
22:35 So 129 yards and rushing on 31 attempts for the Raiders.
22:41 Passing, they had 32 attempts.
22:45 So you're perfectly balanced, 31 and 32.
22:49 Hayden O'Connell already gave you his stat line.
22:53 Let's talk about receiving yards.
22:55 Trey Tucker, great to see this young kid coming in.
22:58 I got kids that's going to have a monster sophomore campaign next year.
23:03 Trey Tucker though for 79 yards.
23:06 Devante, targeted eight times, five catches.
23:11 Hooper targeted five times, four catcher.
23:13 Jacoby five times targets, three catches.
23:16 Zemir two targets, one catch.
23:19 Just again, another really good one.
23:22 Trayvon Merrig had an interception.
23:24 Good job for him.
23:25 AJ Cole, phenomenal.
23:26 Daniel Carlson, great.
23:29 And you just saw the Raiders play in every part of the game at a very high level.
23:37 Let's talk about tackles.
23:40 Robert Spillane with 12.
23:43 Divine Diablo 10, Epps eight.
23:48 Amik Robertson three.
23:51 What a game.
23:52 And this is the thing I want you to remember.
23:55 Look at this.
23:56 I want to read you this about real quick.
23:59 So Jaret Stidham was sacked five times.
24:06 Max, 60%.
24:10 But watch this.
24:11 Okay, so here we go.
24:15 We had one sack for Max, one sack for Isaiah Polamau, one sack for Coons, one sack for
24:27 Adam Butler, one sack for Tyree Wilson.
24:31 Let's talk about Tyree Wilson and his emergence.
24:36 Let's talk about Patrick Graham and what he did when there was a change and AP said, "Now
24:42 go run your defense."
24:43 And he did.
24:47 He released Patrick Graham to go do his thing.
24:50 I mean, the complete recap is this team needed to make a statement and it did.
24:58 You won five of your nine games.
25:04 Now let's pretend that AP had been hired at the beginning of the year.
25:10 And so he was sitting here at nine and eight today, one game over 500.
25:16 Would we be having any argument about firing him and going after Jim Harbaugh?
25:22 Of course not.
25:25 And he's five and four after the trade deadline, no OTAs, no mini camps, no training camp,
25:34 no chance to develop their identity, no chance to hire his coaches.
25:43 Everything was against him.
25:45 And you got a guy that, now think about this, if he had finished nine and eight, this was
25:49 his first season and the fans are chanting for him and the players are cheering for him
25:55 and wanting him.
25:57 I just don't think where you are right now, you walk away.
26:00 And so with all of you that asked, and I promised, there were a couple of things I was looking
26:06 for tonight.
26:07 I wanted to get some alumni feeling, which was very strong for him.
26:13 And by the way, I didn't talk to those players.
26:16 Paul Gutierrez did, of ESPN, my buddy Paul Gutierrez, and he told me that they were all
26:20 lobbying for him.
26:21 I was in doing the press conference.
26:27 And I wanted to see how the fans reacted.
26:30 The fans were so loud tonight and I wanted to see the team make a statement and they
26:35 did.
26:36 And so that's the recap.
26:39 The Raiders did everything you want to do.
26:40 Was it sexy?
26:42 No, no.
26:46 My wife and I are very happily married, just precious woman, precious, precious woman.
26:54 She's stunning.
26:55 She's beautiful.
26:57 She's the, I always say five foot a hundred pound, but she tells me I'm five foot four
27:02 and a half, five foot four and a half, a hundred pound blonde.
27:06 I'm the ogre, I'm the Shrek.
27:12 But you don't have to be the most handsome guy in the world to be a good husband.
27:17 And it wasn't pretty tonight, but they won.
27:20 I almost think sometimes people would rather lose ugly than, I mean, lose pretty than win
27:27 ugly.
27:28 Who cares?
27:29 AP knew I've got to just get my team to play, to win and to win, we have to be physical.
27:37 We have to run the football.
27:39 We can take our shots in the passing game.
27:41 We have to do it when we want to, not when they expect it.
27:44 So they're not dialing up some special blitzes and we can't let our offense beat us.
27:52 And they come out and score 27 points, 27 large on the Broncos.
27:58 Now, did they just beat Baltimore?
28:02 No, but Baltimore wasn't on their schedule.
28:07 They beat every team in the AFC West.
28:12 Everyone, multiple young players making an impact, using the whole roster.
28:20 Get your complete recap, season's over.
28:23 You finished eight and nine.
28:26 I thought they would go nine and eight.
28:28 They finished eight and nine.
28:30 But I think you have so many reasons to be excited about this team.
28:37 We don't know what Mark's going to do.
28:39 And let me just say this really, really quick, because I don't understand how Raider Nation
28:44 sometimes just goes after each other.
28:49 You may disagree with the hiring of Jim Harbaugh.
28:51 I would.
28:52 And if he does hire him, I'm going to disagree with it.
28:55 But he's still a great coach.
29:00 Still a great coach.
29:01 But you don't have to go after people.
29:03 I mean, I saw people on social media, "You're stupid.
29:05 You're dumb."
29:06 Just stop.
29:07 You're a family, Raider Nation.
29:11 Family's going to have different opinions.
29:14 But I think if Mark goes in a different direction, I have more to say about it.
29:21 We'll just wait and see what he does, and I'll have more to say about it.
29:24 But you guys asked me for my opinion.
29:25 There it is.
29:26 I think it's going to be Antonio Pearce.
29:29 And if it's not, I think it'll be interesting, but I think it'll be Harbaugh.
29:34 So that's what I believe.
29:38 And that's my complete recap of where we sit right now.
29:41 Now, timeline.
29:44 The Raiders will begin immediately, I'm sure, doing their due diligence.
29:51 I'm sure that...
29:54 I want to word this properly.
29:56 I will just avoid it.
29:58 Never mind.
29:59 They're going to get into that and start doing what they need to do in their process.
30:03 I told you, I think it'll be no later than the end of the month that a coach is hired.
30:10 I'm certain it'll be in January.
30:13 I can't imagine them going past the Super Bowl because then you go right into the combine.
30:22 And that's ridiculous.
30:23 That's putting whoever you hire at a disadvantage.
30:27 Obviously now the season's over.
30:28 They're going to be obedient to the Rooney rule.
30:32 Jim Harbaugh finishes his day on Monday night.
30:37 He's already got an agent.
30:39 I believe that the process...
30:41 I don't believe any interviews have taken place, obviously, but I'm sure...
30:47 Not reporting as factual, but I'm sure there's been a little bit of feeling out.
30:51 "Hey, what do you think?
30:52 What do you think?"
30:53 And I would expect that to heat up Tuesday morning.
30:55 I'm not...
30:56 "Don't run.
30:57 Hondo says Mark Davis meeting with Jim Harbaugh Tuesday morning."
31:00 No, I'm just saying Michigan wins the title or doesn't on Monday night.
31:07 The season's over.
31:10 And then they'll interview a few other people and they know what they have in AP, but I
31:18 think it's done by the end of the month.
31:21 So then you go into the Super Bowl, then you go into the combine, free agency, so much.
31:28 And the Raiders have completely overhauled their scouting department, which was terrible
31:35 when Dave Ziegler got here, terrible.
31:38 And Champ Kelly was the one charged with doing that, by the way, and he did a phenomenal
31:42 job.
31:43 Now the Raiders scouting department is very respected around the NFL.
31:49 Mike Mayock was respected, but not the whole department as a whole, just how it was run.
31:55 Not trashing the people, just how it was run.
31:59 But that's the timeline.
32:00 They're going to have to make decisions.
32:04 Our draft pick is 13th.
32:06 I'm talking about when I say our, not referring to Hondo, but I'm telling you what I think
32:10 they're thinking.
32:11 Okay, our draft pick is 13.
32:14 So we need to go look.
32:15 If we want a particular player, do we have to move up?
32:18 Do we stay where we're at?
32:20 What about our roster?
32:21 We've got to evaluate our roster.
32:24 Got to look at every position.
32:25 Who do we let go?
32:26 Who do we keep?
32:29 We're going to begin doing, Zeke Trezevant is going to begin a series on Tuesday going
32:34 over all the Raider free agents and Aiden Champion is going to begin a series on Tuesday
32:39 going over all the guys on the roster who are some guys that could not be here.
32:48 Or boy, is this a guy that they need to bring back?
32:52 We're going to begin doing some great dives on the roster, really going through with you.
32:56 And then if they don't keep AP or let's say AP now comes out and says, okay, I ran what
33:03 I ran last year because I didn't have an opportunity, but this is what I really want to do.
33:08 Here's my guy who's going to lead it.
33:10 Here's the offense.
33:11 Now let's go through and look at our roster and decide what do we want?
33:16 What do we want?
33:17 I think it's going to be very difficult after the way that Zamir White has played down the
33:21 stretch for probably Josh Jacobs to return.
33:25 I would think, this is Hondo opinion, his best chance of returning is if AP gets the
33:32 job.
33:35 But I still think there's probably a better chance he won't be here.
33:37 And if another coach comes in, I'll be shocked if he's here.
33:41 Just shocked, just because he's going to cost a lot of money.
33:45 And I know how new coaches want to operate.
33:48 So that's what we know right now.
33:51 That's where we are right now.
33:52 That's a recap of where the Raiders are.
33:54 We'll be meeting tomorrow.
33:57 We'll be meeting tomorrow with AP, getting his end of the year.
34:04 We're going to be in the locker room, interviewing a bunch of players in the locker room, getting
34:08 some of their feedback, some of their thoughts.
34:10 See you guys.
34:11 Please.
34:12 Appreciate you both.
34:13 Hondo's the man.
34:15 But getting their feedback and looking ahead to the off season.
34:20 There's the Pro Bowl and so much coming up.
34:23 There's the owner meetings, which are going to be big.
34:24 Of course, we'll be there in Orlando at the owner meetings and we're going to be at the
34:28 Pro Bowl and all that kind of stuff.
34:30 So lots of stuff coming up for you.
34:34 Scouting Combine.
34:36 We're going to begin on Tuesday, starting to write some draft reports on guys we know
34:39 the Raiders are looking at and giving those to you, what we're hearing and some analysis.
34:46 Got some podcasts coming up with some tremendous people talking about the draft.
34:51 And then remember in February, I don't remember the date.
35:01 I think it's the second Monday, but it may be the third.
35:05 I'll begin from then up until the draft every week, writing my mock draft Monday article
35:11 on what I'm hearing, what do I think the draft's going to come along.
35:14 So we've got a ton of information for you.
35:17 And remember this.
35:19 You just won.
35:21 You ended your season on a positive note.
35:24 No playoffs.
35:25 I get that.
35:26 It's been a long time.
35:27 I mean, it's been two years, but it's been a long time that this franchise has not been
35:34 viable and I get your frustration there.
35:38 I respect it, but there's hope now.
35:43 There's hope here.
35:45 And I think you can see it.
35:47 I think you can feel it.
35:50 The players have bought in.
35:52 You got a coach that understands it and he's in the chair.
36:00 He's in the chair.
36:01 So there you go.
36:02 So from all of us from Sports Illustrated's Fan Nation, Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast,
