00:00 Welcome back to their daily mix and
00:02 2024 Pinterest is saying that Gen Z
00:05 and millennials are looking for
00:07 planning trips that make it extra.
00:09 Take extra slow that take it extra slow.
00:12 There we go.
00:13 Chilled out trip and what's better
00:16 than sipping on some wine on the
00:18 dreamlike coast of the Italian boot.
00:21 There you go.
00:22 The pace the past year our Polish
00:24 director Michael Petri spent some
00:26 time in Italy and he wanted to show
00:29 us some of the highlights from his trip.
00:32 Yeah, it's very very cool and one
00:34 of those highlights is the hidden
00:36 treasure that he discovered high
00:37 in the hills above Sorrento, Italy.
00:39 It's time to take a trip and
00:41 let's go with Michael Petri.
00:42 So ever since I was a kid,
00:48 I dreamed of finding a hidden treasure.
00:51 I mean, OK, what kid doesn't right?
00:53 So on our recent trip to Italy,
00:55 like thousands of visitors every year,
00:58 I had to stop off in Sorrento.
01:00 Now don't get me wrong,
01:02 Sorrento is a pretty awesome place
01:04 known for its beautiful streets,
01:06 food, pottery,
01:06 oh and lemons and lemoncello.
01:08 Of course that you could find
01:10 just about everywhere you go,
01:12 but just be really careful drinking it.
01:15 It could sneak up on you.
01:18 So I didn't quite find the hidden
01:20 treasure I was hoping to find in Sorrento.
01:23 However, nestled high in the hills
01:25 above Sorrento was a place that
01:27 most tourists have never visited
01:29 or even heard of for that matter.
01:31 And it was there we found a single spot
01:35 that I may have been waiting a lifetime to find.
01:40 Now most of you already know that I'm
01:42 kind of a fan of out of the way places
01:45 and to get to the old hotel that I
01:47 had booked online you had to pass
01:49 through this little hilltop town
01:51 that I immediately fell in love with.
01:54 And the little town it's called
01:56 San Agata. You're not going to see
01:59 many tourists here and if you do,
02:01 you'll probably find them huddled around
02:03 the town's little gelato shop at night.
02:05 Other than that,
02:06 you'll see the usual locals hanging
02:08 out here and there throughout the town.
02:10 But that night I quickly learned
02:23 that one of the big happenings
02:25 in San Agata and probably most
02:28 small towns in Italy is when there
02:30 is a good soccer match on TV and
02:33 here every single restaurant and
02:35 bar that you find is filled with
02:37 the local men watching the game
02:40 and they are into it everywhere you go.
02:42 These guys were almost in a trance
02:45 like state watching the match.
02:47 So I guess you could say what you
02:51 will about organized sports,
02:53 but in Italy, based on what I've seen
02:55 throughout this one of many little towns,
02:58 it seems that soccer is probably
03:00 one of the defining mortars that
03:02 bonds people and especially the guys.
03:05 Together. So the next morning it
03:08 was time to head farther up the
03:10 hill to where we finally arrived
03:12 at that old hotel that I found
03:15 and booked online and no,
03:16 I didn't expect this at all.
03:19 I mean, heck, we're just Midwest kids.
03:25 We don't stay at places like this.
03:28 I mean, it just felt so fancy,
03:30 schmancy, so hoity toity.
03:32 So White Lotus imagine sitting here
03:35 high above the hills of Sorrento
03:38 like a crown jewel.
03:40 They call it Oasis Olympia.
03:43 So I guess you could call it an old hotel.
03:48 It was built in 1892 by quote German
03:51 aristocrat Max Bradmeier,
03:53 who was struck by its impressive
03:56 position and its extraordinary setting.
04:00 Honestly, I think he just really
04:02 dug the view and yeah, so did we.
04:06 So after checking in,
04:07 we knew we had to go explore
04:10 and there was a lot to see.
04:12 The entire hotel, for example,
04:14 is furnished with some of the
04:16 original furnishings from the 1800s,
04:18 and there are priceless oil paintings
04:21 and artwork throughout the hotel.
04:23 And all the food that is prepared
04:25 and served at the Oasis is made
04:28 with vegetables, herbs and fruit that
04:30 are grown right there on the property.
04:32 There's even horses that I had to visit.
04:44 I mean, I'm pretty sure I speak their language.
04:50 Farm boy and the more you explore
04:52 this little hidden gem that's high
04:55 in the hills, the better it gets.
04:58 And the views well Giovanni,
05:12 the general manager,
05:13 explained all the different
05:15 vistas that you can take in from
05:17 just this one beautiful spot.
05:20 Giovanni. I mean, come on,
05:22 this is paradise. Yes,
05:24 we are in Sant'Agata.
05:26 So we do a good thing that
05:29 the Sant'Agata on the two bays.
05:31 So we have Naples Bay,
05:33 Salerno Bay, Sorrento Coast,
05:35 and the Amalfi Coast.
05:37 That's you can see all the view.
05:40 Vesuvius, Naples, Progeta,
05:41 Ischia, Capri Island on your shoulder
05:44 and all the Amalfi Coast on the other side.
05:47 After spending the day exploring,
05:49 the sun was just starting to dip
05:51 into that perfect spot in the sky.
05:53 And because this was going to be
05:55 our last night staying here on
05:57 this beautiful hilltop in Italy,
05:59 and we'd probably never experienced
06:01 anything quite this cool again.
06:03 Anytime soon,
06:04 Michelle decided that this was a perfect
06:06 time for a farewell sunset dance.
06:08 And yeah, I decided to go first
06:11 to show her how it's done.
06:16 Hey. Hey, alright,
06:19 obviously that didn't go well.
06:21 But then the spirit of the moment hit her.
06:25 I've dreamed of this place for a lifetime
06:30 And it feels like I've known it for a while
06:36 Just a little difference here and there
06:41 And I always wish that I don't erase it
06:47 All the same
06:50 Yeah, you just believe in what you have
06:57 So that night, if anyone had told me
07:00 what we were going to experience
07:03 the next morning, I would have
07:05 thought they were a little crazy
07:07 because what we witnessed that next
07:10 morning is probably one of the biggest
07:13 treasures that I've been waiting
07:15 to discover my entire life.
07:17 And it happened right there
07:19 before our eyes.
07:21 When the early morning Italian sky
07:23 performed one of the most amazing
07:26 symphonies that I've ever dreamed of seeing.
07:29 [Music]
07:58 It's almost like the heavens were reminding us
08:01 that yeah, there is a God.
08:03 And we were being reminded of it
08:06 in such a beautiful way in Italy.
